I can't even tell you how many times I've been to Bob & Edith's! I usually frequent either the Springfield or Alexandria (Huntington) locations. Their service is great, always friendly. They are pretty quick with the food too. We don't usually have to wait long. Quick tip: it's seat yourself so once you walk in, grab the first table you see! Today, I went for breakfast with my sister and ordered an omelette with hash browns and toast. The omelette was very cheesy, just the way I like it, and the hash browns were crispy. My sister ordered their biscuits and gravy. I wish I took photos but I was too hungry! Everything was delicious and prompt. We will keep coming back to Bob & Edith's for breakfast! read more

Finally decided to go back and try Bob and Edith's again. After two visits this month, it is time to update my review. It was nice to see that the management has taken time to work on the service. We noticed that there were a lot of new servers and didn't recognize anyone other than the manager (who is always on top of things!). Our servers were prompt and responsive. Our food was good... not great... but good for a diner. The bacon is usually on point but today it was really thin and not crispy. I got the french toast which is better than any other in the area! Their eggs are also great and cooked to specific order which is nice. I particularly like the fact that they get their bread delivered from a bakery so it isn't just "grocery style" breads. The rye bread is awesome!!! Be sure to check out the board for daily specials! Downsides: The milk shakes have always been filled to the top and served with the metal mixing cup with "extra" in it. Today, our shake was almost 2 inches from the top and no side cup accompanied it. Not a great deal for $5. Also, it is hard to get someone to refill beverages, particularly coffee. read more

Exactly what you can expect from a diner open 24hrs. We had the biscuits and gravy, a BLT and the French apple pie with vanilla ice cream. I'd say not horrible for something to eat instead of fast food but the more simple you go the better. Biscuits and gravy: hardly seasoned, biscuits are pretty mushy and flavorless. Home fries I had with it were crispy but again not salted or seasoned in any way. BLT: Very tasty, and pretty hard to mess up. Something simple like this is probably best. French apple pie: Didn't know what this was at first but what they're serving is not it. Supposed to be an apple pie without the top crust and a brown sugar crumble. Instead it's more like their apple pie with a sugar glaze thrown on top. Not good at all. Also asked for it warm with ice cream but came cold. Ice cream: Might've been my favorite part. Surprisingly tasty considering everything else. If I ever did come back might try the hot fudge sundae. read more

We came here pretty late and even though they were minimally staffed, the food was good. We ordered country fried steaks with two eggs and cheese topped with sausage gravy. It was good but not the best I've had. Service was friendly. I like that they have a juke box and if you download the Touch Tunes app, you can pay and play songs from your phone wherever there is a Touch Tunes jukebox. This little diner was hopping...I mean staff clearing tables quickly, staff running to take orders and deliver food. It was crazy busy when we walked in, and since it was our first time, we didn't know that it was a 'seat yourself if you see a table but do it while waiting in line' kind of service. That's a cool way but make sure you keep your eye open for a table. They clear them quickly! I was so excited to see the menu, there was something for everyone. If you can't find a diner dish you want, then you are in the wrong place. This menu was awesome! I love me some of the old-fashioned corn beef hash, and they fried it up exactly like my dad used to make: straight from the can, fried, and onto my toast! The toast and english muffins were glazed with oodles of butter, just like I make....so watch out cardio-patients..this is a once in a lifetime treat! The over-easy eggs were PERFECT....just enough running yolk for my bread dipping. I wish I had another... Service was fast and friendly! The staff was hopping! They seem to have their process in place and the order takers took the orders, the food runners delivered piping hot food, and the table cleanup took place faster than I could imagined. I was having quite a busy day and my boyfriend picked me up and surprised me by taking me to Bob and Edith's diner. I grew up in northern VA and have always had diner food at either silver diner or Waffle House. This hole in the wall was an absolute game changer. First of all, they are open 24 hours, it was perfect because we were having late night cravings at 1am. The best part, they serve home made pies and they're fresh, daily. I ordered the turkey burger and it was so satisfying with the egg. We then shared the apple pie with vanilla ice cream. For service, more power to them for pushing through a night shift. Our server was very kind and was great at refilling our drinks. I wish I had caught his name but I forgot to ask. He accidentally broke the pie cut and it wasn't a perfect triangle, (without my boyfriend I even noticing it wasn't a triangle) he proceeded to apologize and brought us a second slice. We were grateful and thanked him and definitely enjoyed every bite. I can't wait to come back and try their omelettes. Pricing is fair for the portions and the ambiance was definitely comforting. Love Bob & Edith's food, it's so great that a nearby diner that's open 24/7 still has homemade quality food. As you can see, I go solely for burgers & fries and breakfast foods, but in my experience they've been great every time. It's lowkey overpriced for a casual diner though (fries aren't included with the burger?! Smh), so it's not somewhere I would go regularly for just a quick lunch or breakfast. Service wise, I haven't had too many bad experiences, the only time it's been super busy was when I went very late one night on the same night as another's schools homecoming, so that's understandable. We decided to check out this place on a busy Saturday morning. It was confusing at first because we didn't see a host and weren't really sure of the seating process. We arrived when there were only about 3 others in line. As the servers cleaned off the tables, the patrons in line headed for the empty table. We nabbed a nice 2 seater table in the middle of the place. The server immediately brought us menus and took our orders. The is made to order, thus takes a bit longer than your average eat/run diner. Both of us enjoyed the piping hot meal. I really can't stand it when I know the food has been sitting under a heat lamp and I get my food lukewarm. This was not the case this morning. My potatoes and eggs were quite hot and also very tasty. We will definitely be back to explore the other menu items now that we know how seating works. read more

They should be at the front, greeting people and ensuring direction for the staff. I got out of my booth to help an older gentleman with a cane find a seat because nobody was at the front to help him. The chocolate chip pancake. My kid got had more chocolate chips than pancake and was a complete mess. I'm not looking for high-quality however, presentation would be helpful. I've heard good things and stories about this from my boyfriend, so we both decided to get breakfast together. We came at a time when the restaurant was busy, which was no surprise. It was okay though, since we were seated right away when we got there. We were greeted by a server by the time we sat down. I ordered Two Eggs & Bacon ($7.99) and my boyfriend ordered Two Eggs & Country Fried Steak ($8.99). While waiting for our food, I took a look around the restaurant. I like how the diner still looks like an old, vintage diner like it was never remodeled ever since they first opened. The diner still kept the theme and I don't think they won't ever change. I also enjoy how they have old frames of newspapers, vinyls, and photos. When our food arrived, my mouth instantly watered. Everything tasted great and the amount of food was perfect. I thought the food portion wasn't enough until I started to eat and became full at the last bite. However, when they are busy, the service for a single customer is TERRIBLE. We had breakfast this morning for the first time and the meal was pretty good. It had the feel modernized Waffle House meets 50s diner. We all had eggs over medium and they were perfectly cooked...a rarity. Hubster got the country fried steak. The steak was good and had the right amount of seasoning. The white gravy was more like biscuit gravy than the traditional country white gravy. The home fries were cooked well but for the amount of seasoning they lacked flavor. Maybe too thick... he ordered half a waffle which had walnuts in it which was cool but the amount of them even with syrup was a bit bitter. I got the chicken tenders breakfast. The tenders were pretty good. I had the hash-browns and got one slice of french toast to try. I thought the hash browns were underdone but when I ate them they tasted really good with my ketchup and hot sauce. The french toast was really thick. It needed to be soaked more as it was all bread in the middle. None of the french toast goodness in the middle . The meal was about forty bucks for the two meals and the extras we tried for our first visit. A bit high but we will probably return. Next time try the pancakes they looked great. read more

It had been a while since I had been at Bob & Ediths diner. It was a welcome return. we arrived around 9 am for breakfast (my wife's birthday) and there was a line outside. Granted it was Veteran's Day and a lot of the local schools were closed and the federal government was closed for the day. But despite the line we were inside and seated in about 10 minutes. As usual, B&E was very busy. Our server was Marely and all I can say is wow. She was amazing, quick on her feet and always smiling. B&E doesn't have table bussers and everyone pitches in to clear and clean the table, all the servers, and the manager (and manager in training). O yeah, the food was great too ! read more

Bob & Edith's Diner takes everything good about a traditional diner and distills down it into one small package. They're in a shopping center that's within easy walking distance of the Hilton Homewood Suites hotel that I usually stay at when I'm in the area. They're open 24 hours a day (a requirement for all diners, in my opinion) which makes it a perfect late night stop. When you walk in, you're greeted by a bright and cheery atmosphere of white tile, chrome and neon. No matter what hour you go, business seems to be booming, yet both times I've been there, there were still some free tables for us plus some seats at the counter. The music from the jukebox keeps the place lively. I was last there on a dark rainy night and I can think of no place more warm and inviting. Of course, they serve breakfast 24 hours a day as all respectable diners should. The menu is not as expansive as some diners back home in New Jersey, but they have all of the standards plus some. Their burgers are delicious but the best menu item I've had is the pancakes. They're some of the lightest, fluffiest pancakes I've ever tasted. I haven't tried their dinner entrees yet, but maybe next time. I'm a fan of diners in general and Bob & Edith's formula of doing everything that a good diner should do without all of the excess stuff that some diners try to tack onto their restaurants is a winning formula! read more

I give this place 3 stars after a customer service rep acknowledged my first review. The place is well staffed but they just don't know how to work or what to do. Sometimes when you're over staffed, employees become too relaxed and lazy. There were no silverware made up or provided. We asked for our toast twice it never came. We had to ask another server for silverware and it's like she didn't want to give it up even though she didn't have any table at the time. It was just a mess to watch. For the cooks working hard in the back, you need solid servers to keep the customers happy and the establishment clean. read more

The food is very good diner food with every caveat your head associates with that phrase. This isn't haute cuisine, it's basic American comfort food, plenty of it at an affordable price, available at any hour of the day. The service is wonderful. The staff pools tips so everyone helps with something. I've chatted with the owner many times and she is very friendly and talkative. This is a very different vibe than the Arlington location. As one other poster mentioned, fewer drunks, more of a neighborhood feel. I can't stress enough how great it is to have a decent 24 hour diner in this neck of the woods. Our only other option was a local IHOP which is a poor comparison. The food is great, from local suppliers mostly. So I picked a table and sat for 15 minutes before our order was even taken. After ordering the food arrived 45 minutes later. They didn't even bother bringing condiments to the table, and I had to stand up and go find some from another table. The syrup is practically water with sugar in it and the food was bland. I got the cheese, mushroom, tomato, and bacon omelet and it tasted nice. The eggs were just a little too under seasoned and unflavored for my tastes. The potato salad wasn't my favorite, it was too cold and too hard for me and not flavorful. However, I heard from my boyfriend that the staff was very nice. I ordered take-out through Yelp, so the order might've arrived late. I heard the staff kept checking in the kitchen for my order, and they eventually got it 30 minutes after I ordered through Yelp. The other diners who had, by some miracle, gotten food were having to go to the counter to get things they needed. It wasn't even that busy. Completely ridiculous. I hadn't been here in years and went for lunch with a friend. When I walked in i immediately noticed a sign that said they reserve the right to limit customers to 30min. When we got there it was busy but by the time we were seated and our orders were taken it had died down and the place was pretty empty. I assumed the time limit is for when the place is busy. The food we got was basic diner food nothing super special. The waitress told us they only have hot regular coffees no iced options. My friend and I were catching up while eating when one of the waitresses comes and asks us if we need boxes. What? We weren't even done. She could have just said "I'll leave the check here" if she needed to leave her shift but I don't think it was even that. The restaurant was super empty by now and I thought maybe they're closing. Checked online and nothing about closing early that day was mentioned so I asked another waitress who was picking up chairs by our table if they were closing early. She said no but since they're 24hrs they just have to clean like that in the middle of the day. Ok still didn't explain why they were rushing us out.
