The problem: three vegetarians ordered Beyond Burgers. When they were brought to the table it didn't look quite right, but the cooking team told the server it was Beyond Burger. Vegetarians ate some burger and asked the server a second time because it just didn't seem right. We were given bison burgers. Fortunately, we're pretty understanding and didn't overreact. It had been maybe three years since we were last here, so we decided to give it a try. This time we showed up around 1:00pm on a Sunday. Silver Diner was busy, but we were seated immediately. I'll start out with the best: and that was the Oreo cookie shake. It was perfectly made and came with extra shake in a large metal cup. Service was also excellent; our server was friendly and responsive. Now, talking about the rest of our brunch: the greasy heavy home fries at Silver Diner are not good. I just couldn't finish them. I ordered the lumberjack breakfast, which is eggs, three pancakes, two choices of meat and home fries. For the meat, I picked chicken maple sausage and bacon. The bacon was okay, but the sausage was extremely dry and tough. I also ordered a side of wheat toast. The bread, with seeds, was quite good but they don't butter the toast for you. Instead, they give you little packets of butter that are rock hard from the fridge. Also they didn't give me any butter at all for my pancakes. The pancakes were decent but had a pronounced vanilla flavor. I considered ordering a burger, but chose not to when I discovered that Silver Diner uses those horrid fall-apart-after-the-first-bite Brioche buns. JP ordered a beautifully presented lamb shakshuka. The lamb was a tad gamey and the shakshuka had cilantro buried in there somewhere. Otherwise the shakshuka was good. Prices here are notably higher than at other local diners. But maybe in conclusion, I will say that you can have a good experience here if you are careful about what you order. read more

I tried to give Silver Diner Springfield another chance and they failed the prompt service test again. I was seated promptly. I looked over the menu 3-4 minutes, no server. I looked up and saw three servers talking amongst themselves. I tried to make eye contact. Finally, I flagged down a bus lady and asked her for a server. A few minutes passed and a young woman walked up to me and said "Your server is very busy now so I will help. I did not need that explanation. She offered to take my drink order. My server arrived, Sunita wasvery nice, but a bit stressed. Sunita was attentive. I placed my order. The food arrived and the order of waffles was perfect. The whole meal was good. I compare this Silver Diner to my favorite restaurants Silver Diner Fairfax and Tysons where service is superb. This Silver Diner Springfield needs to work on better service. I used to come here regularly, and it's been a couple years since my last visit on which I gave it only 2 stars. So we tried it again and guess what... it's gotten worse! Pancakes were dry and flavorless, ham was not a steak. If it was, that was the world's thinnest ham steak ever! And it came to me all chopped up. The 2 scrambled eggs were minuscule and watery, not like uncooked watery, but like they were hit with a splash. Service was spotty and they were not busy. There was one bright spot... the coffee was great! For the coffee they get one star. This diner has all the earmarks of a business that no longer cares about quality. The bathrooms were horrendous. Eggs were cooked to perfection over medium per my request. Dish also came with home fries which were inconsistent in texture (doness). My daughter 8yr old daughter ordered chicken strips and again the batter was very thick and some pieces a bit overcooked. The fries she enjoyed very much. I come here often with my daughters. The selections of food and drinks (for me) are always amazing. Yesterday I did not come with the kids and sat at the amazing bar area for the first time during brunch hours (approximately 10 or so) on a Saturday. Although it was packed, I did find seating at the bar. I ordered the Tropical sidecar with shrimp and grits. Although both were amazingly made, I found it a little off putting when the bartender made my drink and another patron asked to taste it... then the bartender took a straw into the drink she made for me (but not yet handed to me) and handed the sample over to the other patron. While I watched. Then gave me the rest of the drink. It was uncomfortable for me. Please don't do that to other guests :) Other than that experience, the bartender was pretty awesome. Breakfast today was a disappointment. Service was mediocre and no water offered upon seating. Coffee was good. Breakfast was country fried steak, home fried style potatoes, biscuit and scrambled egg (hard). Waited about 10 minutes for the food ("cooked to order") Egg came out flattened...like a rogue wheel had rolled over it on the grill before placing the sad yellow victim on my plate. Utterly lifeless...didn't eat them. CF steak was good as was the gravy, did not eat the potatoes...they too looked lifeless without any seasonings or glistening of butter after being fried. These sad chunks joined the egg road kill on the side of the plate. Biscuit was decent. This place used to be bustling and busy. Fresh food, attentive wait staff and clean...not anymore. Bathroom was atrocious...only makes you wonder about the cleanliness of everything else. New rule, check restrooms first, if not maintained, leave. We were craving Silver Diner for brunch on Saturday and came to this Springfield location. Plenty of parking in the lot. The manager greeted and seated us. She was a gem. It took FOREVER for our order to be taken and for our food to be brought out. The people around us came in after us but got their orders, drinks, and food before us (and we ordered soup...). Finally, the manager was checking in with every table and asked us if we had finished our meal, when the reality was we had not even gotten our plates yet. She apologized and brought the dishes straight out. We were 10 minutes in and the waitress was trying to take a half eaten plate (that we were still working on away). They know you by name and your order. If you go there for breakfast you will see MS. Joy. Ms. Joy use to watch me for years when I was stressed out. Yet, she always had my breakfast ready when I got there. We only started talking when I retired from a really stressful career with the federal government. She then said to me, Ms. Francine, you look so happy. I told her I retired. The Silver Diners are only successful with the help of its dedicated staff like Ms. Joy, the staff and the biscuit man.
