I love their build-a-burger concept-- you choose your bread, cheese, temperature, toppings, and burger size (4 or 7 oz). I had to get the lettuce wrap because I'm GONNA eat their delicious fries (and you gotta cut somewhere)! Their combo (burger, fries, and drink) isn't the cheapest, but this is the tastiest, juiciest burger I've had in Alexandria. One bite and the juice oozes out of the sandwich-- all over your fries. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It's in a strip mall across the street from my favorite grocery store so I figured I'd give it a try instead of grocery shopping while hungry. You can build your own burger or they even have several specialty burgers to choose from. I decided to go with the pineapple teriyaki specialty burger. The burger came with a pineapple slice, teriyaki sauce, bacon and cheese served on a brioche bun. They have 7 bun options to choose from! The specialty burgers come in the 7oz size while the make your own burgers come in a 4oz or a 7oz size. You can upgrade and make your burger a combo for 3.99 which includes fries and a drink. I think the two things that stuck out to me the most were the chili cheese fries and the perfection of the burger temperature. It's hard to find a place that cooks the burger so well, but The Burger shack has done an excellent job of it. I loved my garlic Parmesan fries a lot, but those chili cheese fries now hold a very special place in my heart. Everyone was satisfied with their meals and all three kids enjoyed a milkshake. We ordered delivery and were happy with the options. I think the more standard options seemed executed a bit better than some of the specialty items. I was very impressed that the Chicago dog was pristinely packed and all of the toppings for everything were fresh. The burgers felt a bit spongy like they were over mixed or perhaps shaped ahead of time and frozen. The chicken as well seemed like it wasn't freshly battered, but had good crunch. The tater tots and fries are were good and not messy to eat. A lot of places make theirs so saucy that it becomes a hassle, but these were very pleasant. I think The Burger Shack sits in the fast casual where it's much better than chains, but not going to compete with the fancy high end spots that try to sell you "wagyu". Today is the last time here. I refuse to give my money to any establishment that openly and willfully rips people off, no matter how much I'm being ripped off for. Came in and spent roughly $40 bucks on food. Charged me for a 20oz drink @ $3.29. That's already outrageous for a fountain drink but ok. Then they hand me a 16oz cup. When I call him out on it, he laughs. So now I'm starting to get actually angry. So I said "I paid for a 20oz drink, where the hell are the 20oz cups". He says he didn't know that happened. Then he back tracked and said they ran out of them 2 days ago. So I said "so you knowingly sold me something you don't have, and now you think it's funny". Now this may seem trivial, but over the course of a day, this amounts to a lot of people, and a lot of free cash for a business by simply giving you a lesser product than what you're charged for. My son and I came here for the first time for a late lunch today. We ordered the 12 piece wings with hot sauce. The wings arrived at our table hot and crispy. The sauce was a little thin and mostly at the bottom of the basket and while I prefer a thicker hot sauce, the crispiness of the wings didn't make that an issue. I just turned them over in the sauce to coat them. My son ordered the classic burger with cheddar and and bacon and while I am not a non-meat eater I decided to go with the beyond burger to see what all the hype is about this new option. I opted to change the bun to cheddar and jalapeño. Neither choice disappointed. Both burgers came out hot and fresh. I forgot to order any toppings for mine, but it was delicious as it was. The bun was nice and crispy and was a great choice. I insisted on trying my son's burger and it was hot and juicy. It was not cooked to medium as he requested, but closer to well done, but still juicy. I asked the person that took my order what restaurant they took over when they opened this place a few weeks ago. He didn't know but directed me to the owner, Sam, who up sitting at the window indulging in a meal. I ended up talking with him for a good 15 minutes. Super friendly and it was nice talking to him about his ventures in the restaurant business. I complemented him on the great food. He said he's been slammed during peak hours with lines out the door and he's hoping to expand his dining space into the next door yoga place that is looking to downsize. Hope it works out for him. Can't complain if business is that good. Nice to have a good burger place in the area. I haven't been impressed with what is here. We will definitely come back again. I stopped here about a week ago on my day off. I work not too far from the location in Chantilly but never made it out there being that this was only 3 miles from my house I had to try it. Overall I was very satisfied with the meal. The only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 was because it wasn't blow away and that to me honestly just comes down to preference. I absolutely believe there are people that will eat here and think it's 5 stars. The service was good. The girl behind the counter was very attentive and friendly. I ordered a custom burger. I did Texas toast which in hindsight for the first time probably wasn't the best idea I should have went regular bun. It was a little more crunchier for my taste. The most important part, the burger itself was delicious. Taste like any good burger you've ever eaten. Next up is the fries and I must say they really give you a lot of value here. I almost ordered the large and I'm glad I didn't! The regular size was more than adequate. Normally places will skimp out, these guys did not. They were very good as well! Finally I tried the chocolate shake. To me this was actually the highlight of the whole meal. It was super chocolately. Very thick. What more could you ask for?! All in all at just under and I mean JUST under $20 I had a very nice meal. The price could be a little better, but I understand that these days things are expensive.
