We LOVED this little hidden gem. Our party of 4 loved everything we ordered! This is a little family run business and you can tell! We started with eggrolls ( huge and packed with pork and cabbage, I especially liked the hot mustard) and the sweet potato fries to share. The dipping sauces were so yummy. I also got a side salad with their house vinaigrette. This dressing was SO yummy we bought two bottles to take with us. For dinner, we also got the cajun tuna (DELISH and a HUGE portion), the general tso's, fried rice with shrimp, and the shrimp with broccoli. All were excellent! We forgot our dressings to go and called the owners when we remembered, although they only open for dinner, they met us on our way out of town DAYS LATER at 9am to get them to us. They truly went above and beyond. This will be a regular stop for us when in OBX. read more

We ordered takeout, General tao chicken and fried rice and spring rolls last night and they were absolutely wonderful. we get this about every time we order from them. I was told to come by in 20 minutes, which is perfect. It was ready. we always visit every time we come down to OBX been doing it close to 20 years. read more

Worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. No flavor whatsoever. Way over priced. Shrimp smelled like old dead fish. Couldn't even eat it. No egg in the fried rice. Egg roll was okay until I hit a shrimp that tasted like dirt. Save your money and go ANYWHERE else. read more

Is there a difference between rubber and sesame chicken? This restaurant has me questioning if there is one. I hope you have a good paying 9-5 when it's $15 for chicken with too much sauce and a $5 up-charge for fried rice instead of the below average white rice. The entree came with maybe half a cup of white rice and probably a pound of chicken. I wouldn't necessarily be mad about this ratio if the chicken was not over cooked and bland. We were checked on once after awkwardly getting our food delivered. I sat with an empty cup of water for about 15 mins before the waitress came over and asked if we were ready for the check while not even noticing my empty glass. We were also stared at a lady behind the bar who I can only presume to be the owner. The ambience was not terrible but definitely not good either. Not to mention, someone brought their dog in for a few minutes which did seem unsanitary and I am sure against North Carolina health code. I rarely leave reviews but I think everyone should be warned to under no circumstances visit Boardwok. If boardwok was the last restaurant left on earth I think I might eat a tree first. read more

General Tso Chicken I had to make a yelp account just to spread warning of how bad this place was. If you see this review heed my warning i'm not a picky eater and this place was the absolute worst. Chicken was so over cooked it was like i took a bite out of a Michelin tire. There was way too much sauce on my chicken and there was a 1:5 ratio of chicken to rice, i love chicken but how are you going to short on rice that much. While on the topic of rice it costs 5 dollars just to have it fried instead of steamed, i have no clue how anyone could justify charging 5 dollars to fry some rice. As far as service goes it could definitely be worse, what i assume was an owner was staring at me the entire time as if we were doing something wrong. I hate giving a one star but this was quite literally worse than a microwaveable meal, to add insult to injury it is pretty pricey considering it is below average at best. I warn all who are looking for for a good place to eat elsewhere, i know there is not much selection but i urge you to please look at other options! read more

This is not a good place to eat Chinese food. The service was great our waiter was very polite. It did not give me Chinese vibe though. I would recommend to go to a different location. You can come here if you are starving and every thing else is closed. The food was bland. Do not come here. There are better Chinese places in OBX. This is coming from a person who loves Chinese food. The only good thing here is the food comes very fast. My husband and I went in for dinner, we sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly. We started with an order of their spring rolls. We asked if we could mix them and they said yes so we had 2 pork and 2 veggie. I didn't try the pork but my husband said they were good, as were the veggie! This Asian-influenced seafood restaurant surprised me with awesome food! Honestly, I don't expect much from vacation beach towns; they are either sloppily cooked or way much overpriced. Boardwok South offers great alternatives to the common high-calorie comfort food in Outer Banks. I particular like their own Asian vinaigrette dressing, light and delightful. Their side salad (came with the entrees) is very fresh, judged by a regular salad maker (me). For entrees, my partner and I ordered the shrimp scampi and special tuna steak topped with crab meat. Another plus of this place is that they only use NC shrimps and tuna for their dishes (unlike many restaurants in northeastern beach towns that use seafood from other places).Both dishes are decently cooked and presented. I have to say, freshness truly makes a difference in seafood. The only downside is service. This location seems understaffed and the waiting time for food is slightly long. Overall, it's an awesome restaurant based on my vacation-town restaurant standard. read more

I judge a chinese restaurant by their egg rolls. These are egg rolls! Hearty, crisp and delicious. Well done. I ordered chicken fried rice and shrimp lo mein for dinner. Nothing taste so good after a full day kiteboarding on the sound. She offered me some hot mustard for my food........it was almost like wasabi...but it was chinese mustard sauce. Well done. Amazing find! Tucked away in a little shopping plaza. Service was friendly and efficient without ever feeling rushed. Portion sizes were reasonable - DH and I often share a meal because most places go overboard (quantity over quality?) but we each got a meal and were just a little uncomfortably full. Nonetheless, it being his birthday, we splurged the calories and got dessert. Glad we did! The key lime pie was The Best I've ever eaten! Bright flavor, not overbearing, with a little floral note? The dinner was also delightful. My lump crab cake was exactly that. Lump crab. No fillers. Panko crusted scallops were melt in your mouth tender. DH got tuna steak which was perfection. And the total bill, with wine and beer, was less than $70. Definitely will make this our go to whenever we are in town! read more

Went in and the guy said be right with you, we continued to wait. 10 minutes later still waiting and was told we are very busy let me see if we are doing takeout. First of all, can I just give a shot out to this catchy name? So perfect for the environment. Now on to the review: My partner-in-crime needs to eat once a trip when we visit OBX and last week's trip was no exception. 4 of us (1 sleeping toddler) set out to Boardwok's new location and were greeted with high ceilings, simple decor, bar and and a couple table openings. This location is bigger than there old place. Not as close for us but not too much of a hike either. Our waiter/host seated us and shortly after 2 parties or 12 walked in behind us! How lucky were we to get there first? We quickly put in our drink and appetizer orders tryin' to beat the 24 ppl who were thinking the same. Everything was prompt. We were really impressed with the fact that they could accommodate such a large groupx2 because lots of people come to the Outer Banks in groups that size. Our waiter- who was the only waiter/bartender there- did a great job of juggling a full dining room. We never felt like we had to wait. Now on to the food. If you have a taste for Chinese Boardwok will satisfy. It's NOT however AMAZING Chinese. Coming from Chicago and having some great places out here it's a hard battle of taste for them to fight. I did notice that some items on the menu are not even Chinese. But I understand in a tourist location you need to be able to accommodate people that don't want to eat Chinese but come along for the ride with their friends. BUT WHAT WAS AMAZING- was the soup Crab Chowder. I could've eaten 3 bowls of that! I would love for them to add some Bubble Tea to there menu- that might be fun. AND Tofu options for their meat dishes. Sometimes non-meat eaters would like a General Tso or Sesame Sauce sans chicken or beef. AND Crab Rangoon or pot stickers- I don't remember seeing those on the menu. All in all we'll be back year after year. read more

Went to restaurant with a group of 14 - 6 Vegans and 8 not... All of us found satisfying choices on the menu. Waiter was friendly, helpful and prompt in serving us and accommodated splitting the order- taking for 3 separate checks. The food was excellent - clean, fresh and tasty. I tried for 30 minutes to call in a take out order and the phone happened to be off the hook. I physically went there, and the woman running the place threw me a menu, then said they were not doing take out orders. There were only 4 tables full at the time. She would not let me place a take out order, and I had to chase her around the restaraunt to get her to speak to me. I then went and placed a take out order at a deli next door, but decided I wanted this lady's name. She refused to give me her name, and as she was refusing me, she handed two customers to large bags of take out food!!!! I want to know who the owner is, because this was unacceptable. I met another couple at a store nearby, who validated that the treatment she gave me was completely rude. read more

Went here Saturday evening because everything else was busy. Our party of 8 was seated quickly. We almost got up and left because there was NO A/C!! It was the hottest day of the year. The waiter was sweating profusely. I normally would have bolted but it was 8pm and I was hungry. They had good beer. The service was great. The food was awesome right down to the bleu cheese on the salad. I had a steak that was one of the best I've ever had. Everybody had a great meal. I would not go back only because of the AC but maybe this was a fluke? Maybe it was broken? either way, you will enjoy your meal. read more

I quickly found out they are very rude and don't seem to care for their customers. Therefore, I do not recommend this place due to the behavior of the staff. read more

Had dinner and the food was great along with the service. I had the steak and my wife had the fresh grilled tuna. The steak was good but the Tuna was so fresh and good I would recommend that over anything else. Not a lot of tables so the restaurant is never too loud or that crowded feeling.
