This was a horrible experience. The so called manager, who was also the one who designed the menu, etc. , was the biggest bitch I have ever encountered. The food was incredibly aweful...fried oyters so done you could not eat them, cheeseburger so overdone could have been used for shoe leather. We spent $110.00 and had as bad of experience as you could have. We were even threathened that were call the law on us as we tried discuss the horrible food and service. A Warning to Tourists: Avoid Good Winds Wine Bar and Restaurant in Rodanthe, NC As full-time RVers who review restaurants across the country, we feel compelled to warn fellow travelers about our extremely disappointing experience at Good Winds Wine Bar and Restaurant in Rodanthe, NC on March 30, 2025. Despite its convenient location near Camp Hatteras, this restaurant delivered some of the worst service we've encountered, and based on other reviews, our experience was not unique. Red Flags from the Start We arrived just before 5 PM and immediately noticed something concerning--only one other couple was dining. Given that Good Winds has a mediocre 3.9-star Google rating after nearly 1,000 reviews, we should have taken this as a sign. The hostess was cold and indifferent, greeting us with no smile, energy, or enthusiasm. She seated us at a table with no view, despite the restaurant's stunning waterfront location. Meanwhile, the only other diners had one of the best view tables. When we asked to move, the hostess barely acknowledged us, and we had to relocate ourselves without any assistance. Service That Borders on Hostile Shortly after being seated, the hostess plopped down two glasses of water without asking if we wanted lemon or other preferences. My wife immediately spit out her first sip, saying the water tasted like cleaning chemicals. Since I have trouble tasting post-COVID, I had her try mine--it also tasted like chemicals. The smell was similar to the water in a decorative plant vase on the table. When our waitress, Kristal W., arrived, my wife politely asked if the water normally had a chemical taste. Her dismissive response was, "I don't think so." Then, with an aggressive attitude, she snatched the waters away. We ordered a Carolina Tea and a Waverunner, which arrived quickly. However, Kristal disappeared, and after 10-15 minutes, I had to track her down to place our food order. Sensing tension, I tried to introduce myself and my wife, attempting to reset the interaction. Her response? "I don't need to shake your hand!"--delivered in the most venomous tone imaginable. At that moment, my wife stood up and walked out, stating this was the rudest restaurant experience she had ever had (I rank it as the second worst). Final Insult: Charging for an Untouched Drink Since I had taken a couple of sips of my drink, I offered to pay for mine. Instead, Kristal charged us for both drinks ($28), even though my wife's was untouched. She dropped the check without a word, turned her back, and walked away as I was still signing. A Pattern of Bad Experiences After leaving, we researched other reviews and found similar horror stories: * Gluten-free items aren't actually gluten-free--one reviewer was told their "gluten-free" food was cooked in flour. * One diner wrote: "Terrible. We had to leave. Options are non-existent. Bartender had a very poor attitude. Will never go back." * Others describe overpriced, mediocre food and a staff that acts like customers are a burden. Save Your Dinner--Go to Froggy Dog Instead! Thankfully, our anniversary dinner was saved when we drove 16 miles to Froggy Dog in Avon, NC. What a stark contrast! * Our waitress, Ana (pronounced Ah-na), was amazing--friendly, attentive, and truly made us feel welcome. * The food was excellent, with generous portions and zero attitude from the staff. Final Verdict: AVOID GOOD WINDS! Unless you're looking for a real-life "Dick's Last Resort" experience, stay away from Good Winds Wine Bar and Restaurant. The water tasted like chemicals, the staff was rude beyond belief, and they charged us for an untouched drink. Instead, take the extra drive to Froggy Dog and ask for Ana--you won't regret it! read more

Service was really great and the restaurant had a beautiful view, the only thing that could've been better is that the chicken sandwich was fried in the same oil as the seafood and had a fishy taste. Wine bar? They have a bar with wine, but I wouldn't consider it a wine bar. How about offering a wine tasting or something like that? The bar staff was friendly enough and the views were nice but it was very loud inside. We didn't have any food so I can't speak to that. The food was not all that great. Pretty standard date. I got chicken wings, and my wife got the fried shrimp with fries. The wings weren't all that good. Seemed that the Buffalo sauce was out on the wings before they were fried. The chicks also seemed like it might have been sitting out cooked for a while. The Shrimp was okay, and the fries were alright. Again, standard fare, what wasn't standard was the price. We paid $60 for our meal. The night before we went to Whale of a Tale in Nags Head and spent $88 for a fantastic meal. The Service was disappointing. We were staying down the road and got take out. Don't miss out on amazing views, delicious foods and if you are lucky enough an entertaining meal if you are lucky enough to sit at the bar. This restaurant is located on the second floor above the Kitty Hawk Kites store. Amazing views of the sound out of multiple windows, they do have a small area for outside seating as well. There was a wait of around 45 minutes which isn't shocking in Hatteras because there are not a ton of restaurants, but we were luck enough to grab a spot at the bar. The staff was all extremely nice and funny! We had hot wings to start, they were delicious, nice and saucy, and just the right amount of spice! Dinner was fish tacos and they were phenomenal, a ton of fish in each of the 3 tacos. We also had steamed shrimp, they were a little over cooked but everything else was so great we didn't even care. Yes, it's upstairs, but there is an elevator! Margaritas were tasty but pricey in my opinion. I passed on the fish of the day (flounder) and ordered Leon's Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and fire roasted corn. Chicken pieces were small and a little over cooked. The corn was very good. My wife had the crab cake sandwich and couldn't say enough about how good it was, but bread toasted would have made it great! Cool Winds is worthy of a walk upstairs if the elevator is out. The place is beautiful and has a beautiful view but the staff are terrible. We were told that we could sit outside but no food would be served to us, only for us to see people out there eating and food being taken out all night. The hostess was rude and had her airpods in, couldn't be bothered to speak with us other than the obligatory "how many" and "follow me". Our waitress had a terrible attitude but we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. Then she never came back after taking our orders. The runners that brought our food basically threw it down and ran away. We had no silverware and didn't get any refills. When we finally got the waitresses attention after watching her serve everyone around us, we asked about silverware and refills. She said they were out of silverware and brought back 1 refill and dropped it on the table and left, didn't ask about our food. The food was wrong, greasy, and borderline inedible. When we asked for it to be fixed, we were given an attitude. There are plenty of reviews that state how terrible management is. We should've believed them. read more
