Leaving OBX can be really tough, especially saying goodbye to the family. So we almost always try to extend the morning (after checking out of our rental house), by having one last meal out together. This year we had to get on the road even earlier than normal so we needed a place that was close, open early, and accompanied our two little furry kiddos. That meant Mirro's checked all the boxes; opened at 8:00am-check, 2 miles from our house-check, and a lovely covered outside porch that was large enough for our party of 12. While we couldn't all sit at one big table, it still gave each of us time to visit before the long drives/flights home. And the cool breeze keep everyone cool during the meal. Ordering is done at the counter inside. They had multiple registers open to keep the flow moving. When asked for suggestions, the staff quickly pointed out their favorites, while listening to what each person wanted. The food came out quickly, hot, and exactly as ordered. The "silver dollar" pancakes were bigger than expected , which was a nice surprise. Our group tried the classic, the banana, and the chocolate chip options. Not one bite left on the plate. Light, fluffy, and full of flavor. Some others tried the omelets, biscuits w/gravy, and bagel sandies. Everyone finished it all. This menu might not be the most adventurous for some but we found it to be a good solid diner, with friendly staff serving quickly. read more

Friendly staff, fast service, cute little cafe here in Waves, NC. We both got their fish taco specials and the kids for chicken strips and smoothies. The smoothies are SO fresh here and we loved it. Their chicken strips with fries were so incredibly delicious too. Our fish tacos were interesting (Legendary Seafood Tacos)- the mahi fish was cooked to perfection but wrapped in a hard corn taco shell inside a soft shell. The pickled veggies were a great touch but not sure how I felt with the taco style. Still delicious and fresh fish so I'll take the win! read more

Dinner with an amazing sunset. Started off with cold glass of sweet tea which was so good. Then had the fried oyster platter. Oysters were lightly fried and tasty. All the food was really good and tasted fresh. It is pricey for a cafe but since there isn't much else around I think they just hike the prices up due to the campgrounds in the area. All the employees were kind and helpful. Small inside but plenty of space to sit and has a nice porch. read more

We stopped here the day we got to the Outer Banks. We did get takeout, and I know that takeout often brings the quality down. But, the food was pretty good! Fries were a little soggy (again, takeout) but everyone's meals were filling and we were very happy with the service! read more

Great casual beachside spot with a relaxing view of the dunes and inlet. The burgers were juicy and flavorful, especially the pineapple on top of the chicken sandwich with a perfect sweet-savory balance. Fries were crispy and the house chips were fresh and addicting. We visited Mirro's twice during our stay, once for dinner and once for breakfast.  It was decent food, but nothing stood out as amazing. We tried the fish tacos, which were tasty.  The craft beer they sell there I'd recommend passing on.  Breakfast was ok too. They had a loaded hash brown entree, which sounded good and had sausage gravy.  I guess there are different interpretations of what are "hashbrowns" and what are fried potatoes. They serve fried potatoes and not shredded potatoes. The bacon cheese omelette was good and loaded with bacon.  The employees were friendly.Since there are so few places to eat in this section of the outer banks, Mirro's gets crowded, especially if it is raining. read more

Stopped by for Lunch while staying nearby at an RV Rally and really enjoyed the meal. You order and pay at the counter and they bring your order to your table. There is comfortable seating inside and some on outside deck with views. I tried the Legendary Seafood Tacos, one blackened fish and one blackened shrimp, with diced cabbage and fresh house recipe salsa all piled on 2 corn and flour tortillas. They were delicious and would definitely order again. The service was friendly and helpful and there is plenty of parking out front in private lot. read more

Two word takeaway: overpriced slop. I ordered the "Legendary Seafood Tacos" for $18.99 and the "Shrimp Po'Boy" for $16.99. First thing to notice: the shrimp taco picture is exactly what I saw when I opened the box. There were 3 measly shrimp in each taco, so essentially I paid almost $20 for 6 small shrimp in a mess of a taco (only 2 tacos for $18.99 is RIDICULOUS). The po'boy had exactly 5 shrimp on essentially a hot dog bun with lettuce... for another almost $20. $40 for 11 pieces of shrimp (not even locally sourced btw, definitely just from a frozen bag) is ridiculous. Mind you, you order at a counter for the food, so I'm not sure why they're charging sit-down dining prices. Don't be fooled by the reviews from other tourists. Eat anywhere else for cheaper and better quality. read more

As far as ambiance goes,This place is a roadside beach type restaurant. As my 2 experiences in this area, you go up to the counter and order your food, self service style. The waitress was You get a glass and get your own soda from a soda fountain. We ordered the tuna steak sandwich and the seafood tacos. They both had great flavor but too much salt for me. We first visited Mirro's Cafe almost two years ago, shortly after the new owners took over. It was the off-season, and they were one of the few places open--so we stopped in, not knowing what to expect. To our surprise, everything was outstanding: the food was incredible, the restaurant was spotless, the service was warm and attentive, and the new owners clearly had a passion for making their mark in the restaurant business. Fast forward two years--staying at the KOA just across the street, we decided to go back, hoping it would be as good as we remembered. It was. In fact, it was just as amazing as the first time. Mirro's is easily accessible from 12, with plenty of good parking out front. They are a fairly casual place. Go in, grab menus up front. Seat yourself. Go to the counter when you're ready. It's a basic beach sandwich type spot. I ordered an oyster basket with fries. It's a huge pile of fries with a few small bits of fried oyster in it. We had a large group and so we were able to taste a variety of items. We went for dinner. 2 of us had the the tuna steak sandwich. The tuna was cooked well and as simply grilled, it had a great flavor. Husband had The Islander, which was a blackened Mahi sandwich. It was extremely fresh and had an excellent flavor. My husband doesn't enjoy a lot of fish but he said this sandwich was very tasty. 2 got the chicken tenders and fries. They came out piping hot. They said they were very good. The Shrimp Po Boy was also nice. The shrimp seemed fresh and had a nice breading. Lastly, someone got the burger and she says it was " highly yumtastic". Everyone loved the fries. This place looks so unassuming from outside and inside is just a casual surf shack serving food. You order at the counter when you know what you want and seat yourself. They have a decent sized dining room inside and a nice porch outdoors where they allow dogs. We ordered the jalapeno poppers to start. They were nicely fried and crispy with cream cheese filling. They came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping (which isn't my favorite combination) but we're good enough on their own. For my dinner I ordered the shrimp Po boy. The roll was crusty on the outside, but soft on the inside. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, the shrimp were perfection. They were fried to a golden brown and cooked just right. The bistro sauce was similar to a thousand Island, and it was just the right amount of sauce to shrimp. If I lived here, I would eat this sandwich on the regular. I paid an up charge for fries instead of the chips and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. My husband ordered the chicken wrap with chips and really enjoyed his meal as well. This is an easy and pretty tasty lunch spot. There's a ton of seating both inside and outside. You look at the paper menus and then place your order, and they bring it out. I ordered the oyster po boy which had a decent amount of oysters and a nice remoulade sauce. I liked the bread as well, but could have had less lettuce and more toppings like tomatoes. Mirro's Makes Good Food Our family arrived a bit early for our Saturday beach rental check-in, so we decided to visit Mirro's for a bite to eat for lunch. The sign says it is a new place for 2023. The cafe was busy, with all seats and tables full inside. Thus, we took our place at one of the outside tables on the side porch. We picked up a menu and then placed our order at the counter. We had two shrimp Po-boy sandwich baskets and a fish-n-fries basket. The Po-boys and the fish tasted very good. However, for the price ($20 for each sandwich), the Po-Boys could have had a few more shrimp and the fish basket should have included two pieces of fried fish. That said, the food was all fresh, cooked very well, and served piping hot. The counter staff and attendants were all very friendly and helpful. They cleared tables quickly and we were able to move to an inside, air-conditioned table soon. In summary, the food was good, but the price was a bit steep for the amount of food received. It does have a good beach feeling atmosphere. read more

This is a cute cafe that recently opened in the Waves area. We were going to go to Sheila's but I think it closed down? Or we couldn't find it? Either way we wound up here and weren't disappointed at all. We tried the biscuits & gravy, pancakes, French toast, hash browns & sausage. Everything was delicious & ready very quickly. The ambiance of the place was nice, too. All of the food we ordered was quite cheap, especially for the area, & we were really impressed! We'll be back for breakfast next year. Cute cafe but the food was lacking. I had the burger which was super dry and peppery flavored which is what I think restaurants do to try to mask that the burger is frozen. My daughter had the shrimp poboy and said it lacked flavor. My husband also had a poboy and said the same. read more
