Great sandwich shop. You order at the register, get a number, then they bring it to you outside. Service was quick. You get a choice of breads and how it's prepared. My wife and I shared the turkey and cheese on sourdough and had it pressed. We had our water bottle with us, but you can purchase bottled carbonated, non-carbonated (tea) drinks, and bottled beer. The sandwich was outstanding. They even plated it separately for us. All the ingredients were fresh. The only thing better would be indoor seating. There were flies around us. Kat's Deli is one of my favorite lunch spots on Hatteras Island! They have a pretty big selection of wraps, paninis, and salads. It's a small establishment with limited seating, so I almost always take my order to go. The line can get pretty long during the lunch rush, so I recommend getting there closer to when they open. My go-to is the Sweet Home Avocado wrap, which is lightly grilled and comes with chicken, crunchy bacon, avocado, tomatoes, and ranch. It has so much flavor! I will say, the portions are much smaller than Buxton Munch (my other favorite lunch spot) but still pretty filling. read more

They do not hold back on the meats. My friends enjoyed The Pepi and the Jurassic Pork. All of the sandwiches were incredible in their own unique way. Place was horrendous, ordered a chicken cheesesteak with just cheese on it, they put lettuce tomato and mayo on it( never heard of a cheesesteak with those on it) no problem I'll just have them make another one, worker looks extremely irritated that I asked them to re make it. We met Kat while she was helping out with a friend's rehearsal dinner, and that's when we found out she was the owner of the cute little deli we had passed on the way into town. It was right around the corner from our rental, so we decided to check it out the following day. The little shopping center itself is too cute, and Kat's has a collection of tchotchkes for sale also. To eat, I ordered the Sweet Home Avocado. They were out of tomatoes, but given that it's a warm sandwich I actually think it was better without. It tasted just as good as it looked! My boyfriend ordered the Reuben at Kat's recommendation and really liked it. The pickles were on point and every sandwich comes with chips as well. Kat's Deli was one of the best places I have eaten at in the area. I tried several of their cold sandwiches, with my favorite being the chicken salad sandwich. It was just the right amount of creamy (not TOO much mayonnaise) and had a unique flavor. I ordered it on sourdough bread, which wasn't sour at all (I ordered it two different times just to make sure) but that didn't take away from my overall experience. In addition to the sandwiches, I tried their potato salad and their macaroni salad - both delicious. Of the two, I liked the macaroni salad better. The serving sizes for both sides were large enough to share between two people. There is plenty of parking by Kat's Deli, though the parking lot has lots of potholes and can retain water after a storm. The restaurant has plenty of outdoor seating. read more

Arrived at 3:02pm and despite the fact that the Kat's Deli website shows they were open until 4pm, we were informed at the counter that they were closed. I would suggest either calling first to figure out if they are open at all or finding another alternative from the the get go. Kat's is the best! We always try to get to Kat's at least once if not more when we are on Hatteras. Everything I have tried is amazing, but their Rueben is two meals for me and just delicious, I also love the chicken salad. I've tried many others and everything is delicious and they are so nice and friendly. In the winter you might get delivery and dinner specials....alll amazing! We tried Kat's Deli because it was the only restaurant we could find open near the ferry. It was not good. My wife's grilled cheese sandwich was really just a cheese sandwich, since it had just barely been toasted on one side and the cheese had not melted at all. Her chicken-noodle soup was very obviously out of a can. My Onion-tended Consequences was better than the grilled cheese, but the avocado was kinda pointless as it was totally overwhelmed by the caramelized-balsamic-onion jam, which didn't really have any onion flavor. Sometimes restaurants don't need to be good, they just need to have a good location. I think that's the case here. read more

This place is great! We go to a ocean pull off near here and having a sandwich place close is great. I wish we found it sooner. From now on we will grab some sandwich's to go and hit the beach. I had one of the specials "Gobble till you Wobble" and it was soooo good. I could never have eaten this before going to the beach, but after being there for hours and being in the water.... I ate every bit of it! It had gravy to dip the sub in.... who doesn't like gravy? Wife has a Cordon Bleu and had Pastrami and cheddar sandwich. I am not a fan of Swiss and the folks had zero problem making it my way. Pretty good place! We came here after an unsuccessful attempt at getting on the ferry to Ocracoke Island. It's small sandwich shop with outdoor seating in a nice location.
