Built in 1817 as a cotton warehouse, the River Street Inn still has its original hardwood floors, towering ceilings, exposed brick, and incredible historic charm. Walking through the building feels like stepping into Savannah's past, while somehow still feeling warm, elegant, and comfortable. Our balcony overlooked the city, the lobby was gorgeous, and every detail made us stop and look around. Best part? We found our room for $149 total after taxes. For this location and this much history, it honestly felt like stealing. A huge thank you to Lena at the front desk for making us feel so welcome. Savannah, you've officially convinced me that you don't have to spend a fortune to experience something unforgettable.

It was spacious and felt both historic and modern. We were very comfortable here. I love that they even provide a black washcloth in the bathroom for removing your makeup. So many small touches that go a long way. My son was pretty much obsessed with the popcorn in the lobby. And we walked all over town, easily getting where we wanted to go. Valet parking is $50 a night which is annoying but given how beautiful the area is, it's hard to argue with. I might be a little more frustrated if we were staying for a week or something. They were even able to provide a pack n play for the baby to sleep in. Would absolutely love to return.

Our first night we couldn't get the TV or the wi-fi to work?! The next morning when we mentioned it, one of the guests said that someone mentioned that they had problems, too. Of course, we said something to the person who worked there and they said they'd had problems with the wifi and gave us the staff wifi password which solved that problems. They said they would have someone look at the tv, but it still didn't work that night. Turns out a previous guest had used it to play video games and it wasn't reset. That is something that needs to be looked at before the next guests arrive. Also, we didn't have any bath products in the shower, so I had to go down and ask for them. One of the drawers in the armoire got seriously stuck and the lampshades are so dark that we had to remove them just so we could see well enough to read at night. There are only 4 parking spaces attached to the property in the back although we are allowed to use another parking lot where there is no direct access to. The good is that it's a neat old house that is very close to Forsyth Park and the back is really pretty with all the wisteria in bloom. On the ground level in the back there is a really pretty fountain/fish pond area. The room we were in had a shared balcony off the back with stairs that access the back ground area. Lots of neat antiques throughout the house. Great front porch. Breakfast was wonderful and they gave you options as to when you wanted to eat. I liked the tea bar set up in the smaller dining room, too. Some very different teas, too. I'm afraid to say that I wouldn't recommend it.

We always looked forward to returning to Savannah partly because we loved the DPH so much. For this reason, we decided to book a family holiday trip and stayed here over the Christmas week of 2013 (about 4-5 months ago). The inn is under new management/ownership and things just are NOT the same. There always used to be very friendly people running the place- they would always talk to you about where and what to eat, fun activities, local happenings, etc. But now that's not really the case. Also, they did make an exception for our dogs to stay, although they are not dog friendly. This kind of turned into a bit of a nightmare, when the innkeeper's girlfriend Emily was around. She had frantically mentioned the dogs were heard scratching at the door when we were gone. She told me she was really concerned so i offered to show her the inside of the room. She said no. Why not just come see that there is no damage or issue and put it to rest? There's a long story involved with things like this happening the entire stay. If they were uncomfortable, then they should have just not let the dogs stay. Mid-stay, which was xmas eve day, Emily insisted we board the dogs somewhere, but there were no openings that last minute. Colin and Tim were the only saving graces this place had. They made bfast each morning, and all the food was great. They were sweet and helpful when around. They also mentioned Emily has a very bad tendency to over react, and said they had been alone with the dogs for multiple days with NO ISSUES at all. It was a relief to have both of them there after Emily had made us extremely uncomfortable. The rooms had old TVs, and i know there are so many things to do in Savannah, but does that mean you can't enjoy TV in bed before passing out? This week there was literally not even a local channel working- my entire family thought this was a little crazy- especially at over 230$ per night! Another issue we had was NO housekeeping/room cleaning over the holiday week. They must have that issue often, as i see that complaint on other yelp reviews. We brought this to their attention, and they ended up giving a one night credit on an 8 night stay. Not too impressive. Sadly, i will not be staying at the DPH going forward. There are too many other gorgeous B&Bs in Savannah to waste time here- although it never used to be like this!

Abigail was the most accommodating host. She was professional and personal and always made us feel welcome. The sleep was comfortable, the breakfast was outstanding every morning. My fiancé has back problems and is picky on how a comfortable a bed sleeps and it was hard to drag him out of the bed in the Orleans room lol. We also loved the ability to meet different kinds of new people from all over who boarded during our stay. The vintage aesthetic of the hotel, combined with the service that makes you feel like family, the happy hour you should never skip, and the slow pace relaxation provides the ultimate opportunity for a vacation.

There are many restaurants and historic sights walking distance from the hotel. The building is historic and you can feel it when you walk around the building. The rooms were recently renovated for furniture, but they retain the historic feel to them. The bed here was very comfortable and I got a great rest here. The bathroom was also renovated and was very clean. I came here with a large party and we booked a few rooms and everyone loved it here. My son and his family had a suite with a balcony. Their room's balcony entrance was from the window. I think this is the first time I saw this setup. There was breakfast service here as well. When you come in, you sit down and right away a waitress came with a paper menu. You would fill in what you would like for breakfast and within a few minutes they brought out the food. The menu options were excellent, they had grits, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, bacon, bagels, bread, fruit and a few more items. The breakfast really filled me up for the day. The service here was phenomenal. We arrived very late due to a delayed flight and they had an attendant at the front desk who checked us in and had a friendly attitude. The hotel also has valet service. The staff and housekeepers were very nice, accommodating and did a great job taking care of us. I had a great welcoming stay at the Marshall House. Everywhere is walkable in Savannah in the historic district, but this hotel is in the heart of the city. The hotel is historic, but clean and updated. The staff is amazing. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was included, plus an evening gathering with a historian one night, a singer one night, and a harpist. Every place from the restaurants to the waterfront were all a 10 minute walk or less! Highly recommend!

I met my wife while working at the airport at CPK 20 years ago so we know hard work and respectful customers may not understand the challenges and difficulties you may have in your personal life as well as in the work place and some days are good some days are bad. When we arrived 3 employees were having a discussion about the toner cartridge and was assisted with checkin by Mary. We had previously filled out the form to indicate our birthdays and anniversaries but no acknowledgment was given upon check in. As we were celebrating our anniversary on this multi B&B trip. Once arriving in the room we had a great time throughout the wonderful city of Savannah. Unfortunately the horror started once we noticed from our beds the drip drip on the bed from the ceiling from the air conditioning condenser. Rather than ruin our vacations we arranged our bed where the foot was where I've had worse to lay and put a towel over the lantern where the dripping and condensation was. Within noticed after further investigation that this dripping was a continued issue along with the mold that was accumulating along all of the windows and areas where light was present.

It's clear that the hosts take tremendous pride in maintaining the space. Our GPS found the parking spot with no issues and leaving the car in it's spot the entire trip was perfection. The location is hands-down the best in the city. You can walk to everything, and being right in the heart of Savannah makes the experience even more magical. You are a few blocks from City Market, Broughton and directly across from the river. I am not sure I would stay anywhere else. Plus the amount of space! We stayed in 903 and the stairs up and down weren't too bad (really more like 2 flights than 3). However, if you have mobility issues, I would not suggest staying up here. On top of that, the host has truly thought of everything. Every detail, amenity, and little touch made the stay easy, comfortable, and welcoming. One thing I did want to mention- we were supposed to get the code the morning of the arrival and around noon still had not heard. I sent a quick email (only had this email address because I switched the card on file and received a confirmation from a specific person rather than the generic email address). Had I not had this email address, I would have been very concerned because no one answered when I called the number. So this was a non issue because I received a response in a few short minutes, but otherwise, I'm not too sure what would have happened. I will recommend this place to everyone staying in Savannah!
