I'm almost hesitant to write this review because we want to keep this place our own secret…read morehideaway, but it's only fair for everyone to know how amazing the River Roost is and how great it's been for us. We've stayed at this place twice now and each trip has been the fun, comfortable, and relaxing destination we were craving for. The River Roost is a 2 bedroom home set along the Georgia coast, with its own private dock for unlimited fishing, crabbing, and endless nights of just hanging out and enjoying the cool evening breeze (just put on some bug spray!). The home itself is nice and cozy.. it comes with a fully stocked kitchen and the couches and beds are very comfortable. The living room has large panoramic windows so you don't even have to sit outside on the dock to enjoy the beautiful views of the river. Another great feature is it's close proximity to Savannah (about a 25 min drive)..we enjoyed full days of sightseeing in the city and came back to the Roost in the evening and enjoyed the sunsets over the water while relaxing on the dock as we feasted on fish and blue crabs. All in all we truly consider the River Roost our home away from home.. we've found a gem of a vacation rental and we'll be sure to keep coming back

We rented The River Roost for a month. It was charming and very relaxing. Sitting on the couch and…read morelooking out the windows at the water and the sunrise was spectacular!!!! Taking our morning coffee down the dock was also peaceful. My husband had a blast crabbing and we had great crab cakes. So fresh. The pictures on the website are realistic. The place was clean and well stocked. The host Phyllis is a doll and responded immediately. She also spent a morning with me on the dock and now she is my forever friend. Wonderful host. We will definitely come back again and stay. Book the river roost for your peaceful, relaxing stay.

Before coming to Folkston, I asked people's advice on where to stay when coming here. Needless to…read moresay this came up, and I am happy to say this was a fun experience. The overall experience was like a B&B meets a campground, as you are in the woods, right up to the tracks, you have neighbors, and really feel like you have independence. Trains literally rumble by you at all times of the day, with full blown horn. So if you are a light sleeper you are in for long nights. But if you are like me and can take the horn and the lights and bells of a railroad crossing, do it. I stayed in Mr. Peake's Cabin and it was perfect for me. It had a fan, some AC, a bathroom, shower, and two twin beds. Plus a fan and light outside. I enjoyed it a lot, save for some musty smells, but the fact it was very clean I can overlook the smell. Jim and Dixie were terrific hosts. They are friendly and warm and everything you would expect from a southern family. Especially Dixie. She is a true "Southern Belle". Sweet, conversational, and really accommodating. She knows the answer to almost every question, and really knows how to make her guests feel comfortable. I would come back here, but only in the winter when the heat and humidity are tolerable. Thank you again Jim and Dixie!

My wife and I had booked the Folkston Funnel Crew Quarters 4 times, of those 4 visits we were…read moredouble booked twice! The first time Dixie was able to allow us to keep our reservations and the other folks were accommodated in one of their other units, our latest trip (5/25) we had booked with a call to the store and confirmation by them that all was in order (as I said this had happened before and we were being careful), we again called 3 days before and were told all was good, the handicapped ramp would be installed for my wife and we could arrive early as well. We arrived at 1pm had the key code and the ramp was missing so I carefully got my wife into the porch step by step moving her feet using my hands to guide them, once on the porch I got her into her wheel chair and started to unpack. Three hours later we were greeted by a man and his family who had booked as well and was adamant about us being there, I got a hold of Dixie who came as soon as possible. The other family was not going to give up the space and Dixie offered us another persons property in town and assured us it was handicap assessable and could accommodate my wife's father and his truck camper on site. Dixie met us at the other property (it took me an hour to repack from the crews quarters during which my wife got over heated in the process so she could not walk period, so I had to roll her wheelchair backwards down the stairs bumping hard and then getting her into our vehicle). At the other property their was a nice ramp and the place was absolutely beautiful but there was no way the bathroom could be used safely by my wife, in fact I almost lost her once in a bathroom trip that could have ended with her on the floor in the narrow bathroom stall. We could not use the beds as they were too high and we slept overnight on the couches as I did not want to be far from her. We left the next morning as it was so much work to make it a vacation, our home was a safer bet. We tearfully left her father at the campsite behind the home and drove home. Dixie promised to drop off menus for us to order lunch that she would deliver the next day and it never happened as we checked with my father in law, again a failure. So after waiting 2 and a half years to go on vacation, dealing with three hurricanes and the insurance companies and clean up, my mothers death, my wife's bothers death we truly looked forward to enjoying the trains...well for three hours we did. No phone calls or offer of reimbursement has been made, and Folkston which we always loved as a place to visit (we have been there 6 times) is not going to happen again. Please note if you are truly handicap this is a town that is rough to visit, we loved the Crew Quarters as the bathroom was large and open and had a grab bar and the option of a ramp but that will not matter in the future.

With the rest due within 60 days of my arrival 6/8/24, which they would automatically due. No issue for me. I called on 5/4/24 just to check on my reservation. Lindsay was not in the office, fine call me Monday. I got a call on 5/6/24 and was told there was an issue that they double booked me and blamed it on a computer/system error. How?? I had a deposit plus a confirmation email too. What they offered was a less quality, not even them same as to the what we agreed on! They did find other places BUT at a higher price. Honestly a sorry is all?? I asked for refund, however even if I get it, I would not do any business with them.
