I guess you can take the girl out of the trailer home, but not vice versa. They are terribly rude, I don't know why people line up here on the weekends. The food sucks, and beer is not worth the inflated price. I know dc is trying hard to be bar trendy like my past hometown Portland, but you suck at it. Navy Yard is full of rookie bars and restaraunts, some good, some bad. This is one of the bad ones. Maybe it is an east-coast thing,cause most of you are lifeless prats at bars, but your customer service, act like it. As soon as another descent bar opens up, this place will fall as a has been trend. if you think I'm being harsh, trust me. Go here and put up with their rude, unmotivated bartenders. Held our office holiday lunch here the Friday before Xmas - 5 folks in the office, so not a huge group at all. This was my 2nd time here - first was a Sunday night for dinner with my wife. Food and beer were great - I had the grilled cheese and wish it could be my lunch every day! Service - still some growing pains here. We were seated at one end of the large communal table in the main downstairs dining area. After we were done with food, we were continuing to chat for a while. The place wasn't super crowded by this point - there were a number of smaller tables all over. A little longer in and the hostess comes over and tells us that she has a reservation for our table in about 20 min. So we basically were told that our time here was over and that we were to move on...no encouragement to go to the bar and drink, no "hey, I have a really huge group coming in and the only place we can fit them all is here at this table. I am super sorry about this. what can i do to keep you here spending money (transfer our tab, some apps, etc)?" Food and beer pull our time here up to 4 stars, but this problem from the staff was a bit of a turn off. read more

I always enjoy the food at Bluejacket. The beers are really kind of hit-or-miss for me there, but to each his own I suppose. Pros: Their pickle pot (variety of house-made pickles) and the homemade tater tots. A beer and an order of tots will set you right for a midday lunch, if you can drink a beer for lunch where you work. ;) Their sandwiches are all solid options and anything they've done with a chicken sandwich you can take to the bank. Cons: The beers here always seem to be lacking, in my opinion. They have some good options for very subtly nuanced flavor profiles, but I can't think of a one that I've tasted and haven't thought, "That would be great if only they'd just...". Service is always quick and responsive to questions about the offerings which is a plus. On our last trip the bartender couldn't stop calling us, "my friend". It became a game at some point to beat him to it and to work it into as many interactions as we could. A little more actual beer knowledge and a little less hipster 'tude would go a long way for a couple of these guys. All that said, Bluejacket is still a decent option for a game day or anytime when you're looking for a quick lunch and something cold and beer-flavored. I will give them a a couple more chances before crossing them off the list. :) read more

They make all their own beer! I'm sold right there. No chance of not being able to find one I haven't had before. The food is pretty good too. I had a chicken burger with I enjoyed. The tater tots were unique. Good flavor, but I think they should be smaller. Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle. A little too gooey. Being smaller, they'd have a more balanced crunch to moist ratio. They're also hard to hold onto while dipping into the ketchup cup. I saw more stuff on the menu that I'm curious about. Had brunch here today . The eggs Benedict were good but kind of lacking in portion . My partner had the loco moco which was beef patties white rice gravy . That dish was horrific , the beef was dry and the rice tasted uncooked . Overall first and probably last experience here . I really, really wanted to give this a higher rating; the beer is great, I like the atmosphere and design, the food we had was good if not a tad expensive, but it happened... Our server completely killed off any fun or amusement we may have had. We sat in the dining room on a fairly slow evening, and we simply couldn't get an ounce of service to go with our beer and food - we were lucky to get those, and by the time I wanted a second beer, it took the better part of 30 minutes to be graced with a visit and eventually presented a beer, I basically no longer wanted by that point. Honestly, I just wanted to leave by the time I got it. In well over an hour at Bluejacket we managed to get a few tasting size beers (ordered in one go), 2 appetizers, and one additional beer. We would have happily had more food and beverage, but alas. It was not to be. Their beer menu alone makes me hope they up their game on wait staff, but this place might not even be able to move enough product to stick around for the long haul if others have visits like ours. read more

This place was really unaccommodating! My team tried to have a happy hour here since we were visiting from out of town and to be fair when we called ahead they told us they couldn't take a reservation but they also said we wouldn't have a problem getting a good spot. Oh how wrong they were. The bar area was packed and because we were only ordering drinks and apps they wouldn't seat us in the other empty half of the restaurant. I explained to the host that even though we wouldn't order meals we typically ordered at least 2-3 drinks each and usually enough appetizers to feed a small army. Came here after work with a bunch of coworkers. The atmosphere inside was cool with the string lights. The bar area had a lot of people but some of us were able to snag a booth. Not a huge beer fan but wanted to try out one of theirs. I ordered the forbidden planet - I didn't like it as much and switched with my coworker who had ordered the shaking through since I liked hers better. We ordered the short ribs for the table and it had a good flavor and was nice and tender. Plenty for the four us. I didn't like the slaw that came with it though. Overall a good experience read more

Yesterday I was turned away because I asked if I could bring my small service dog inside, due to the snow. We usually sit outside, as I try not to inconvenience anyone nor do I want individuals to stare and question. I stated that I did not have my paperwork with me, which I usually carry, although it is not a requirement for an establishment to see it. Visited bluejacket for the first time and their beer selection was really pretty impressive. We went to the bar for a bit which was crowded, but the bartender Niku was really awesome and suggested beers to our different tastes that turned out be excellent matches. I like dark smooth beers and he told me about the Wake and the Panther which were awesome in their different ways. My husband really liked James and the Giant as an impressive Belgian strong ale. We also had some dinner later and were really impressed by the sweet potato gnocchi with duck meatballs, to die for, but a smaller portion than expected in the large that we wanted to share with friends. 3 of us got the ribs and the 4th person got the lamb, all the dishes were excellent, but there was a brief problem with one of the Ribs dishes. It came out as a chunk of fat only, clearly shouldn't have been plated, but the folks quickly corrected the situation and brought a better piece of meat and the manager came over to apologize and comp'ed that dish. Great service! The only other general comment that I have is that due to the high ceilings, metal brewing tanks and metal roof the place amplifies all the chatter, music and other noises and has no acoustic measures in place to absorb any of the sound. We couldn't hear our waitress and could barely hold a conversation with our friends without shouting and repeating ourselves constantly. Bluejacket should really consider installing some noise dampening materials around the room/ceiling to combat this issue. read more

I don't drink too much, but the Mexican Radio beer is delicious, very smooth and kinda creamy. Loved it! Regarding food, we just tried appetizers, the smothered fries are amazing, tater tots are pretty good. But don't waste your time with chicken wings, they are taste-less. My boyfriend and I had heard great things about this place. We finally had the opportunity to go a couple of weeks ago. It was fantastic! The service drinks and food were great! Great service always stands out to me. Our server was fantastic! Clearly very knowledgeable about the business- policy, beers, and menu. When they were out of the wine I had ordered- our server brought the 3oz that were left (on the house) along with tastes of a few different beers that I had been considering. For the food- the Kale Caesar was unique and delicious. I don't even like anchovies but I found my self enjoying the Boquerones on top. For dinner I had the 18-hour short ribs- need I say more? Drinks- I'm not the biggest beer drinker, but I certainly appreciate great beer. Lots of unique flavor profiles. I had a beer infused with mesquite smoke- obviously very smokey but I loved it. They also had a sour ale that was to die for! My only complaint- yes there is one- the bathroom was kind of a mess. Hole in the wall where some drunk girl had most likely slammed the door into, cover for the vent chilling in the middle of the floor, etc. When you have such a beautiful space (clearly valuable)- I expect the bathroom to be kept in shape. read more

I love the beers here. It's nice that you can get tasting pours of so many different flavors. I had a mixed dining experience here. The fried chickpeas and the tater tots were awesome. They have these great aiolis to go with them too. My chicken burger was pretty gross though. It was a composite of dark meats, made on site, that were mashed together to form a patty. I was expecting like a chicken breast I guess. I don't like dark chicken meat- it always gives me the impression that it wasn't cooked enough. The burger bun was just ok and all the topping on the sandwich were minuscule. This was my previous review: I loved this place. The set-up is really cool and they have amazing beers! I tried all small pours. A lot of the beers are very flavorful, so the small tastes were ideal. They definitely have the most inventive beer flavors I've seen. I got the crab deviled eggs and smothered fries, which were delicious. I walked out only with an $18 bar bill, after splitting the food with a friend and getting like 5 small beers, so very reasonably priced as well. read more

I'm giving this a three with a promise to come back and hopefully rank it higher. Everything had AMAZING potential--it honestly just needed salt for my taste. And I should probably also just succumb to the fact that I am my grandmother's granddaughter and I'll always want salt. I got the chickpea appetizer--a real crowd pleaser. Has the appearance of "healthy French fries" but obviously isn't. Still good. But I could have used salt. Entree--a pasta that I cannot spell with the rabbit Bolognese. Which was not Bolognese but WAS delicious. Again--I should have asked for salt. Service was great. It was also a Tuesday night, so that is to be expected. We would have done a 4.5 stars if yelp allowed it. The service was outstanding. Our waitress Maria was helpful, attentive, and helped fix our slightly rocky table (without us even asking). He said: "the beers were very good. Vast array of different styles. Waitress was very knowledgable. Favorite was the Lost weekend beer" She said: "Mud pie dessert and cinnamon ice cream were DELICIOUS! Not a traditional heavy mud pie. More of a delicious chocolate thick pudding pie. Lamb dinner with Chedder mashed potatoes and kale was excellent. Lamb was cooked just right!" The fries with the burger were not good. And the scallop appetizer was good but the rice was undercooked. Service was great which I was anxious about considering other reviews I've read on Yelp. Atmosphere was great outside on the patio on a nice summer day. The beer selection was pretty good. The tater tots were pretty good and different. However, I was not really impressed with my cheese steak. It was pretty damn bland for a cheese steak. I don't think there was literally anything else on it but cheese and steak. Apparently onions and peppers are getting too expensive these days. I wanted to like it. I want to like Bluejacket so bad! Here's the good, first: - Tater tots: they are square not the normal oval shape and they are delicious! You will not regret getting them. - Ambience: it's a cool space (you'll just have to go see it to get what I mean!) and there is plenty of seating, including a fairly spacious bar and a long communal table. Here's some of the not-as-good: - Grilled salmon/some kind of fish: it was decent and came with quinoa, but unfortunately the quinoa wasn't too great. Kinda mushy. - Falafel sandwich: this was too dry, but too often other restaurants deal with the same problem with their falafels so...take that with a grain of salt?? (Told you I want to like it!) - On the pricey side for the quality of food -- I think the fish was around 24 dollars. Bottom line: worth giving it a shot (and certainly the tots!) but for the prices, you can definitely find better tasting food elsewhere. read more

If I could rate this place zero stars, I would. A group of six and I walked into Blue Jacket. As we walked up to the bar, they were doing last call, so my friends and I ordered our drinks and sat at a booth. Maybe 15 minutes into having had sat down, the same bartender (tall skinny man with brown/dirty blonde hair) came out from behind the bar over to our booth, and literally grabbed beers out of everyone's HANDS (yes, you read this right. Not off the table but taking them out of peoples gripped hands). One of our friends wasn't having it, and this bartender basically played tug of war with this friend. He pried drinks out of hands, meanwhile there were 3-4 clusters of groups still in the bar area with their drinks and mingling. When another friend in our group confronted the bartender on how he treated us, be cursed her out. I plan on following up with management about this bartender, but yes, beware of the psychotic and angry man. Blue Jacket, you can do better than this! What a shame that one awful employee can ruin the experience at a place I had higher hopes for. Never have I ever experienced treatment like this at a bar/restaurant before. read more

I have been to Bluejacket several times but will, after last night, not be returning. I was there before a Nats game, which would offer an excuse as to their being overcrowded and under staffed, but that shouldn't effect the lettuce. I ordered their chopped salad and my boyfriend ordered the burger and a beer, this totaled, with tip, to over 50 dollars. While the beer was awesome and the burger decent, I could have gotten a better salad at a McDonalds or on an airplane. Not only did it have very few ingredients, but their definition of a chopped salad seemed to be a bunch of pre-cut and old lettuce. This is upscale bar food, so I don't set expectations too high, but how hard is a chopped salad if you're adding bacon and blue cheese? Those are ingredients that all but guarantee a flavor-packed-punch, but even those were bad: The bacon cut in big, greasy chunks, some of them only gristle, and just a few crumbles of blue cheese on top. I don't order salads at bars, but this isn't a bar, this is a "Groundbreaking Brewery, Restaurant & Tasting Room." This $15 dollar "salad" (13 + 2 in tip), was unacceptably bad. If you have to go, go for the beer and skip Bluejacket's three-day-old salad with its illiberal toppings and walk across the street to SweetGreen for your salad. read more

Bluejacket is a great place to have a beer and relax. The brick building has an old school feel with a new age bar menu. The outdoor seating area has a great breeze from the Potomac River and is always full of young vibrant people. The beer is delicious and the bar allows both pints and smaller 4oz pours, so if you want you can make your own flight. read more

Blue Jacket Brewery and The Arsenal are a great addition to the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. The beers are wonderful, unique and ever changing. They have brunch, brewery tours and private space for events on top of a large dining room and bar area. I disagree with the previous review that the food is mediocre. I have eaten lunch, dinner and enjoyed HH with work colleagues and it has something for everyone. It is definitely pub food, but if you are looking for healthier options the cobb salad and kale caesar are both delicious. As for the breads and pastas, they have a different flavor and texture because they use the spent grains from the brewing process in them. I think it is such a creative way to reuse ingredients and try something new. If you have a love of things local, you will enjoy this place. I think the best time to go in is between 5:00pm - 6:00pm because you can snag a booth, bar table or stool before the place gets packed. This way you aren't waiting for your reservation at The Arsenal to eat, and I prefer the atmosphere in the bar over the dining room. As far as service, just remember that you are in a crowded bar, and patience is key. This isn't a place to go if you are in a hurry. Its an experience, not just a meal. All in all, you should definitely give this place a try. It has become a neighborhood favorite among all my friends. read more

Lowering my review slightly. Bluejacket/Arsenal is still pretty good, I enjoy tasting a bunch of different beers whenever we go, but it hasn't developed to be quite as phenomenal as I had hoped. The bar area is almost always too crowded for good service, but I would hesitate to sit in the restaurant just for drinks. the food has been spotty, ranging from excellent to just ok. And overall the atmosphere, while gorgeous, can start to feel like a bit of a scene, rather than neighborhood staple. There are still many positives: tons of house brews in a variety of styles, generally done quite well being chief among them, and the 3oz tasters make it easy and affordable to try lots. Staff have always been friendly and helpful (if too busy to be very attentive). I will still come here with out of town visitors, but so far it hasn't lived up to the potential it showed early on. read more
