Local diner disappoints. Made a lunch order today of 4 lucky burger specials, which is suppose to come with lettuce tomato, pickles and fries. We get our lunch back and nothing was right. When we called, we were given a hard time, and told they would give us lettuce and tomato. When my co-worker went back with the incorrect food and to get the correct order, she was also given a hard time and told " well if you want it done over its going to be about 20 minutes" clearly they did not want to cook us fresh food.No apology, nothing. So she brought us back our food, did not wait and needless to say by this time, it was cold and went in the trash. We were expected to put together our burgers. Hard to do when the cheese is sticking to the bread and trying to pull it apart resulted in a FAIL. Really disappointed with Bluebonnet. Up until a month ago, I have never had a bad experience there. Last month, messed up order as well, but we let it go. I would think twice about getting food to go from there as they obviously do not put any thought or care into it. read more

Such a cute little diner! I can't believe I hadn't been here before. The food is delicious- I had roasted stuffed chicken with mashed potatoes and a slice of layer cake. It honestly reminded me of my mom's cooking! The waiters were also kind and personable, and all the food came out very quickly. If you're stuck getting your Hyundai or Ford fixed at the nearby dealerships, it's a great way to kill an hour or two and it's only a few minutes walk. So happy I found this place! read more

This is the second time we were here and I had the oatmeal with raisins. I was happy to see that they are a Scottish oat. Good texture and plenty of oats. Not wanting to cook dinner at home today, I decided to try out the Bluebonnet Diner. I'd heard good things about it, and was looking forward to grabbing a bite to eat there. The decor is very charming. It's just like an old-time 50s style diner, complete with plastic stools, a formica counter, and a jukebox. There was even a cute model train, running around a track that they'd built near the ceiling. I ordered one of their specialties; the Broasted chicken dinner. It came with three pieces of golden Broasted chicken, your choice of two side dishes, and small, soft rolls. The chicken was lightly crispy outside, succulent and juicy inside. I ordered baked beans, and scalloped potatoes for my side dishes. The beans were rich and flavorful. The potatoes had a hearty, creamy cheese sauce, but they tasted a bit bland. For dessert, they have a wide variety of old fashioned pies, cakes, ice cream treats, and puddings. After much contemplation, I decided to try a slice of their chocolate cream pie. It was highly recommended by the waitress. The pie had a velvety smooth, melt-in-your mouth chocolate filling. I think that the chocolate filling was made of mousse, rather than pudding. It was topped with a fluffy layer of whipped cream, which was garnished with a few tiny chocolate chips. The pie crust was light and flakey. The Bluebonnet diner, specializes in serving stick-to-your-ribs comfort food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. For a simple, satisfying dining experience, it can't be beat. Who says that restaurants have to be fancy to be appealing. Certainly not me! read more

It's a seat yourself diner with really old booths that just seemed really dirty. So after looking over the poorly planned menu (confusing and set up really weird) I decided upon the beef stew. So out comes my beef stew, and my first bite was ice cold. I mean literally under 40 degrees. I working in food service, know that soup has to be at least 169 degrees, or bacteria can grow. I brought this issue to the owners attention, and he was trying to tell me they just cooled it off. This felt like an authentic diner: I got a glass of lemonade with half of an equal packet floating in it, the waitresses were disgruntled and arguing with each other, and the average age of the customers in there was about 70. However, a good diner should be open later. read more

I like to take my family to Bluebonnet diner. Our favorite meal is the blueberry pancakes with a side of eggs and fresh local maple syrup. The pancakes are substantial , grilled perfectly and huge. The scrambled eggs are great and the extra charge for the real, local maple syrup is well worth it. Bluebonnet also sells small jugs of the maple syrup to take home. read more

As diners go, it's one of the oldest in the Northampton area. Being that old, you would think that it would give any conscientious chef/cook, the opportunity and time to perfect a traditional diner comfort food, Sheppard's Pie. So, being the traditional person that I am, I ordered it. Now traditionally, Sheppard's pie is made with lamb. I can except the fact that it can sometimes be made with beef, even (dare I say) ground beef. But what I had was something that tasted more like Sheppard's feet....after a long day of walking. It was served in a gratin which is okay but the mashed potatoes were slightly cool while the dish was rather hot. Microwave???!!! And are those instant mashed potatoes to boot? Are you kidding me? It was a bit too runny for me. There were no, and I men no redeeming qualities in this dish. My wife had the meatloaf. I should have followed suite. The service was okay, maybe a tad slow. read more

Being a diner fan, I want to like this place. Being a cleanliness fan, I struggle to do so. The tables are always sticky, there's always trash on the floor, and the wait staff usually look pretty sloppy. Then there's the food. I think it's obvious, based on the average clientele, that there are plenty of people out there who like food a certain way (think 1950s mid-west US, made with mayo, made in large quantities but very little finesse, or deep fried) and have been eating in a particular way all their lives. Most (not all, certainly) of them are over 60. That's who you'll see when you walk in to the Blue Bonnet. Having said that, I'm all for the nostalgia of my mother's cooking and can see (slightly) the appeal of too sweet potato salad, anemic burgers, meatloaf, and mushy broccoli with cheese sauce. If that's your thing, go and eat to your heart's content. If not, go somewhere else or stick to this basic rule: broasted chicken or breakfast. Don't order anything else. If you're a broasted chicken fan, this is the place. If you love standard 1950s American-style breakfast, again, this is the place. Nothing fancy. Nothing healthy about it. But it won't disappoint. Lastly, if you've never had Grapenut Pudding I recommend you try it once. I don't know if it's a regional thing or if you can find it everywhere and I just never noticed, but I had to try it shortly after moving to New England. It's interesting. Oh. One more thing. It is what it is, but for what it is, it's good! Yes, some of the items should be avoided, like the mashed potatoes, but it's a great diner with a good menu. The service is definitely often strange, but Bluebonnet has arguably the most interesting cast of characters in Northampton when combining waitstaff and customers. A true sociological experience in terms of peoplewatching, and the food really is good diner food, too. Since it's a diner, I don't feel like I need to recommend specific items, but the chicken rice soup was great, grilled cheese very good, sandwiches are all good. First off I am taken back by the rudeness of the wait staff... I have been there many times hoping that maybe it was just oneones bad day but the majority of the staff sucks. They are rude and usually ignore my table. I had only one good waitress the 20+ ive tortured myself and for some dumb reason I kept com I g back hoping it was just a fluke. Today will be my last time coming for many reasons. First off my bloody Mary was the worst I ever had. It was in the smallest of smallest glasses for one. The alcohol was the cheapest and they used so much and hardly any bloody Mary mix and then poured tons of hot sauce in it....why? Couldn't even drink it. Half of my breakfast was not even correct or not even brought out. And the waitress was non existent for help. When she made a brief appearance she just seemed angry. When I was nothing but chill and relaxed about the whole experience. Also today was a cold day outside and they had their air conditioning on full blast. Everyone had their coats and hats on in the restaurant. I just feel that it's just not worth spending a dime there if you just get treated like crap especially when you tip well and treat people well. You should at least get treated with some respect. Friendly employees and good food. Prices are awesome too. Pancakes are huge and portions are good. But if you are looking for the diner experience, this is marginal. There's a small diner atmosphere to the right as you enter, perhaps 4-5 tables but the rest is more like a restaurant. Full bar area toward the back. There's a model train that runs along the wall (by ceiling) in the regular area, but it wasn't running when we were there for breakfast. Excellent food....great Boston Cream Pie...as well as Blueberry. A must to take home. Daily Specials are great...especially Mac and Cheese on Fridays. Packed on Saturdays since about the only place in town to have breakfast...no matter what you order the food is good. Long lines on Saturday - Fridays as well. Only negative is the hostess who is horrible...slow, disorganized...out of her element...need to get someone who can do more than 1 thing at a time.
