Roast beef
Stacey B.

Daily soups are amazing - deep flavors and chock full of yummy stuff. The homemade biscuits are crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside and the roast beef featured freshly carved beef with onion and horseradish on a nice ciabatta bun. Really tasty food.

Stone ground grits snd bacon with egg

Bluebird Kitchen is a nice little breakfast / lunch spot on Forbes just down from Market Square. Breakfast, soups, sandwiches, smoothies, pastries etc are what you'll find here. This visit, I got the stone'ground grits with bacon and eggs. The size of the container may not look like a lot, but this will fill you up. The grits were smooth and creamy, with a nice cheese flavor to them. The egg was fried perfectly, and chunks of broken bacon you'll find hiding in the grits. The café au lait was nice too (made with Counter Culture coffee out of Durham, NC). Service has been fine whenever I've come here. Check them out if you're downtown during the week and have time.

Cuban Sandwich and Potato Salad

5/1/25 Ate List: Cuban Sandwich - 8.2 Potato Salad - 7.5 Cute spot just off Market Square. Staff is kind and friendly, spot is fairly small. Cuban Sandwich here was not as you might expect but flavorwise is very delicious. The bread is fresh and maybe not what you traditionally expect either. The flavors are more "tangy" in my mind than the traditional Cuban but it's quite delicious. Speaking of breaking from tradition. I don't like Potato Salad. Never have. Like ever. BUT I saw their Potato Salad and the list of ingredients and convinced myself, now is the right time to give it another shot. And have to say, VERY good. Very very tasty. Pleasant surprise. Looking forward to stopping back in.

House Roast Turkey

I got the house roast turkey sandwich. I was excited to try because everything on it sounded good. I feel like there was hardly any of the shallot bacon jam on my sandwich. And it had a very citrus taste to it which I didn't love. The bread was really soft.

Bacon & Cheese Stone Ground Grits topped with dippy eggs. (And hot sauce)

The Bacon & Cheese Stone Ground Grits are awesome, even better topped with some dippy eggs!

House Roast Beef Lunch

I think breakfast would have been a better time to come. My sandwich was lovely. I really liked the roasted tomatoes on it. The bread was so fresh as well. The restaurant is accessible and the staff was very nice. There is limited seating here.

Wow what a disappointment. Ordered a toasted bagel super easy right after being told I couldn't order just a biscuit without gravy. The only toastiness was the day old stale bagel. The bagel wasn't even toasted. The staff not friendly, kind of harsh first thing in the morning.

I haven't been to Bluebird Kitchen in a long time! I had a meeting downtown so this was a convenient lunch spot. I love that they have so many vegetarian options. I was deciding between the veggie sandwich, soup, or tuna nicoise salad. I decided to order the salad, which I learned was premade in the cooler. It was okay, and I loved the assortment of olives. It wasn't great though, and the serving size was small compared to other lunch places that offer similar salads. The dressing options were a champagne or red wine vinaigrette. I was glad that they had a few seats inside so I could eat it there. As soon as it hit 12:30, the lunch rush filed in. I recommend going early! 11:45 am seemed to be the perfect time for no line. I will definitely eat there again soon and plan to try the veggie sandwich of the month!

BEST PITTSBURGH WING…read more We were absolutely not expecting this and still can't believe it. We didn't have major expectations but hoped it would be at least a top 5 wing and average meal. It was beyond that The French onion soup we saw online and everyone seemed to enjoy that. We're whores for it so had to get. I like mine a tad bit salty which this was and PACKED with onion chunks and breaded leeks on top. It was impossible to get a spoon fully without any inclusions. My new favorite The Tavern Burger. I'm coming fresh off 9 years without 5 Guys (elite) and this rocked me harder than that. This isn't a stupid smash burger. We got a juicy COOKED PERFECT RARE 8oz patty, topped with sautéed onions, and bacon that isn't crisped to smithereens. I like my bacon medium rare and that's exactly what I got. Then covered in one of the craziest sauces I have ever had, their gorgonzola cream. I could drink that by the gallon The wings.... I have never had a wing itself cooked more perfect in my life. The smoke and meatiness on them was so nailed that I could get 2 dozen plain and still have the same reaction. We got the Buffalo Garlic and Dry Cajun Ranch. These wings don't need drenched in sauce by any means or it would honestly ruin it. The buffalo doesn't ned to be creamy either. Perfect amount of sauce to cheese ration. The dry cajun ranch was a fucking knockout. For how great the wing is I would love to see more dry season options with them Cam got a Tavern Dip. I hate dips. I loved the shaved ribeye on it and horseradish, but I have never been an Au Jus man. Would 100000% eat it without the au jus Then the fries. Always team psoriasis through and through. Not sure if I'm coming off the Five Guys high but their cajun boardwalk style are even better. Get some spicy honey aioli to dip them in. Truly just shocked at how amazing this place is. Right over the bridge and cannot recommend enough going here before a game and walking over. Great spot right before, after and during sports. Very high Pittsburgh atmosphere going on I will be back so many times and absolutely worth going Downtown for

I have had everything on the menu more than once and nothing had ever been disappointing. Therefore, it came as a shock when we learn they are were closing for a while. Knowing how long it took them reopen some of their other restaurants, we are a bit sad. Maybe they will make it a little less dark inside which would be great. Sometimes it is a bit too lick like a club in there. Also perhaps they could add the octopus tacos to Tako Torta ! We visited for one last hoorah last weekend. The octopus wasn't on the menu but after checking with our waitress, they still had a few. We got both this one and then queso! I got chips for the queso since I don't do gluten and then corn tortillas with the tacos. The octopus was well cooked as usual. I had a frozen pain killer which was great. See you soon I hope!

Tacos come in a serving of 2 per order, but they are fairly large so this is enough Their namesake is their octopus taco. I got this, chips & guacamole, + their passionfruit beverage. There were plenty of seats at the bar, so we settled in, ordered a couple of beers, and started with the black bean dip. The dip arrived quickly and hot, but about half the chips were broken bits and crumbs. Great if we were making a taco salad. Less useful for dipping. We tried to get a bartender's attention but couldn't. Our meals arrived over our shoulders: my usual torta with fries and my wife's fried fish tacos. My torta was solid, as always. Her fish, however, wasn't hot and seemed like it had been sitting for a while. Cold slaw and avocado? Expected. The fried fish underneath? That should still be hot. We flagged down the bartender, who put in a replacement order. Appreciated, but it left me eating dinner while my wife sat waiting for hers. That's an awkward dinner date. Shortly before the replacement tacos arrived, the bartender brought complimentary guacamole and salsa, adding, "Hope you don't have any allergies." A nice gesture, although probably a question best asked before dropping off the food. The replacement tacos were great, but by then my wife was over the whole experience. We had planned on another round of beers and ended up calling it a night instead. Kaya has been a reliable spot close to home for us, which made this visit disappointing. Hoping this was an off night, because we'd like our go-to to stay our go-to.
