We finally tried the Blue Pearl Buffet last week. After our meal, we knew we'd never come back here. Pros - Plenty of food - Many seafood options. - Price is reasonable and includes drinks (soda, tea, etc.) Cons - The restaurant had a bad smell. - The AC was not working well. It was very warm in the restaurant and since it's summer outside, we were hoping for some cool air escape inside. Not. - The food was average. Typical Asian-American Chinese buffet that is just ok. Came here on a weekend and the food selection is mediocre. I'd say the best item in my option there is the steamed whole fish, which gets devoured within minutes of being set down. They have a sushi area that's just different variations of California rolls. Wish I could leave zero stars. Do not go to this place. The people that run it are thieves and liars. I have been here many times and almost always get the same thing but noticed the price varies wildly depending on who checks me out. One day I went in and decided to look at the menu price and what exactly they typed in when I was checking out. I watched the woman that works there type in 3 dollars more per pound than was on the menu. I asked her why she did that and she looked shocked that I had noticed then thought for a second and actually told me that the buffet menu pricing was only for if u get rice and noddles. My girlfriend and I came in here tonight because we had heard that their buffet options were extensive. I've been to a few Chinese buffets in my lifetime and I can definitely say that this place had several more options than the rest. In addition to pizza, chicken, and French fries, they offered two different types of fish. When we came in, we immediately saw that the place was semi-full, yet there wad no wait at all to be seated. We were able to walk-up to the buffet lines to see the various food options. They clearly kept all of the food items stocked up and there wasn't anything of short supply. The food also appeared to be fresh. I went for the steamed shrimp and seafood Alfredo which looked I treating. My girl tried a bunch of everything. I believe I made about three trips to the buffet in addition to some desert at the very end. Our Server was nice and came around a couple of times to see how everything was. We went here for my sister's birthday, per her request and I was informed that it was a Chinese buffet. So imagine my surprise when I discover that they serve more than just Chinese here (i.e., American and Italian are also on the "menu"). The variety is decent and the quality of the majority of the dishes (entrees, side dishes, and desserts) was actually above my expectations going in (especially considering it's only about 10-12 bucks per person). The fried rice and spring rolls were surprisingly good, but the Sweet and Sour Chicken was really tough (literally), though the Grilled Chicken was better. Oh, and the drinks seemed endless (we were getting refills about every five minutes or so). Overall, this is a decent plays to feed larger groups, but I doubt I'd necessarily make the drive again for anything less (since there are better Chinese buffets closer to home). read more

It's ok. Not the best nor the worst. They don't have a lot of varieties for vegetarians. I went with my friends and felt bad for a couple of them since they couldn't eat anything but fries, Mac n cheese, fried rice and bread. They could do better when it comes to fruit bar and sweets, they had honeydew and oranges ONLY in their fruit bar the day I went!! Where to start? Well actually as I thinking of where to start I bumped my knee under the table and it came back with chewed gum attached....so there's that. In addition to the free gum. The food is cold, I didn't even make it back to my table with a warm meal. By the chance I got to start the food it was already hard AND cold. The food here for some reason doesn't taste the same as I'm used to. Honestly the General Tso's chicken and the beef and broccoli tastes sketchy at best. Even the dessert tasted like it was out all day. I know for a FACT the lemons sure have been out at least one day because most of them are dryed out. Haven't been here in a while but hub was craving seafood so we went. I'm not a seafood person so I have to stick with the alternative Asian fare- mostly chicken and veggies. Don't know if the ownership has changed but a lot of the food on the buffet was not very hot and rather tasteless. Ended up with mostly salad. Not a bargain for $15 a plate. This place made my stomach and head hurt so bad after. Also the hibachi grill didn't have beef...The options were pretty basic, nothing really stood out. The stir fry crabs weren't even edible. The crawfish were decent but lacked flavor. The fried fish and roasted pig were the best things there. They have a microwave near the ice cream which should say something to customers who actually notice. Their food is cold! The waiters are always rude and it is mission impossible to ask them for anything. They like to stand around after you pay for their tip. How rude! I saw their 10 years anniversary ad on social media and gave a try. It was not bad, I like their pho very much, raw steak in the noodle soup was very tasty, somehow better than some real Vietnamese restaurants. Other dishes were just okay. I have to agree with Jane P's review, this place is nothing to write home about. In fact, its barely worth writing about here, except that that's what's expected of a Yelp member. Ok, so, let's get it over with: I went into the restaurant and it was crowded - a good sign I thought, until I remembered that it was Christmas Eve and people either hadn't worked or were off earlier than usual and probably wanted to eat some place that was relatively quick and easy. I got my plate and hit the buffet - and was almost immediately disappointed. First, the food was a jumble of mismatched fare with no discernible order of thought as to how to make it appealing to the sight or easy in the selection process; second, every bit of it was food that you'd find in any food court mall in America, except that the mall food looked more appetizing. I decided to start with some Asian food, figuring that, well, the owners are Asian, how bad could it be? Well, it was bad. It was real bad. It was eat-the-General Tso-and-lose -a-molar bad. Seriously, I have never had chicken that hard and stringy before in all my years of eating chicken. The rice seemed hard as well, and at the same time somehow waxy, if that's possible. The broccoli ws overcooked and the green beans were limp. So, I decided on American fare, again chicken, this time fried, with a side of fries. Once again, chicken hard, fries cold and burnt. Finally, I'd had enough. I got my check, left a decent tip (the wait staff, after all, weren't to blame for the food, after all), and left. My family must have had amnesia today because we completely forgot how awful this place was. I am now just getting around to writing this review because I was able to break free from my bathroom. The sushi was hard as in the rice were dried out, the pizza looked a week old as the pepperoni turned black and cheese solidified and the sausage pizza, the "sausage" looked like rat poop. 2. Food just taste like crap and maybe that is expected but again, I love these chinese buffet but damn... it was bad and again COLD. THE GOOD. 1. I ordered their pink lemonade and it was the only thing that was enjoyable. Conclusion.. Day 2 of my big eating competition training. Earlier in the week, my honor was challenged by a punk British kid and I agreed to a duel of his choosing. I've got the rest of the week to prepare. Seeing as how I haven't been to this place since it was called Dragon Sea buffet, I figured this would be a good place to continue training. The food is decent for what you pay. Note: I can only comment on the lunch buffet. They have a pretty good variety, at least more variety than some of the other buffets in the area. They have all the American favorites like General Tso's chicken, lo mein, and egg rolls. They also have all the basic dim sum items such as shu mai and chicken feet. There is sushi which I tend to avoid at Chinese buffets and they also have all you can eat pho and "Hong Kong style" dumpling soup. Nothing is particularly well done, but there were more good options than bad. I was able to find enough food to knock out 3 solid plates of food and an added dessert. They have a pretty extensive dessert section. I was able to have my go to dessert of Chinese donuts with soft serve and add on top of that, egg tarts. This is one of the only buffets I can think of with egg tarts. Not a bad deal for 8 bucks and some change. Service was good. They kept the drink refills coming. The place is pretty big on the inside and it looks like they are doing some renovating. The place can get crowded and you may have to get creative with parking. If you are stuck in Springfield, not a bad place to go for Chinese buffet. read more

Last sunday I decided to set out in search of a Chinese buffet in the area. I was hoping to find something just general and americanized, but yelp was not really giving me a good read on anything in the area. I don't think I have seen so many bad reviews of a single type of restaurant on this site before. Deciding to settle for "least bad" of the group, I took a short drive down to Springfield to give this place a shot. First off, I just want to clarify. This place is pretty authentic. I mean, I think it's authentic. But then again, I definitely would not know what authentic is to begin with. So maybe that's a stupid statement. Regardless, this is not the Chinese buffet in your small town back home. The people who were eating here definitely knew what they were looking for. We came at 2 on a sunday thinking the lunch rush would have died down. Wrong, it was just getting going. Yes, they have general tso's. No, it's not that great. People don't come here for the general tso's, trust me. If you are looking for americanized stuff, you aren't going to find that much and should probably look elsewhere (where that is, I don't know). That said, Blue Pearl pleasantly surprised me with its variety, quality, and the comprehensive scope of its offerings. I am not sure if this is an everyday occurrance or if it was because I was there for sunday dinner, but there was a very broad selection of many types of dumplings, all of which I found to be delicious. Seafood was definitely at the forefront of the menu, with several preparations of clams, shrimp, whole grilled fish, little fried fish, frog legs, multiple types of crabs, and some baked fish heads which were really good. They also had a station where they would make pho and other soup for you, and some great barbecue. Because I'm not really experienced with authentic Asian food, there was definitely a novelty factor at play and a little bit of the "bizarre foods" thing going on for me which made it interesting. But at the end of the day, I could really see that this place has a strong emphasis on quality and puts a lot of effort into the preparation of their dishes. Also, I was really impressed by the efficiency of their operation given the incredibly high throughput they were achieving. The fact that they have a man with a microphone standing at the buffet tables barking out orders to the kitchen over a loudspeaker to let them know which dishes need to be refilled makes me very happy. read more

This place was good! Clean, well-decorated for the holidays, and had a wide selection of food. My fiancé and parents who are all from Shanghai, China really liked this place. For an American style buffet, it was authentic and a good deal. It's much cleaner and had better food than Hibachi in my opinion. Good value! read more
