We come here for post work events. Nice size of place but the spot can get absolutely packed. Solid karaoke, DJ and quick Mic turn around time. Pool table in the back is always a hit. When there's a lot of people, I wish there was better ventilation or more AC. So many bodies heat the spot up quickly. Bartenders are creative and do a great job. My friend recommended our group to stop by Blue Max for karaoke as he stated he had been there many times prior and enjoyed it. The bar did not seem very clean/well kept but it was quite busy at the time that we went. The most determinative factor for the 2 star review is the service/employees. Two of my friends had been invited to play a light game of pool with another couple while my friends were waiting to sing karaoke. One of my friends, who was playing pool, did not feel well and had to take a moment. Therefore, he told the other players and stepped out. My other friend asked if it's okay if someone else stepped in to play for the friend who wasn't feeling well and the people who invited them to play got very agitated (there was no money or betting, they were just killing time to wait to sing). They started using profanity and starting problems but the staff did nothing because they knew the customer/they were a regular. Just because you are friends with the staff, that does not mean you can berate people and be extremely rude over a simple game of pool at a karaoke bar. The staff was not helpful and excused their "regular's" actions because she was drunk, so we left without causing problems or trouble. I strongly recommend avoiding this bar if you care about people being safe/respectful. read more

Supports local comedy. Karaoke. Pool table. Fun vibe. I have been to the Plaza so many times, and I would've never thought that I would find a bar like this in the middle of this Plaza. It's got a pool table in the back. There's a little stage for local talents. The owner is super cool. He completely supports local entertainment and arts. He's really easy to work with. The bar keeps are all chill and easy to get along with. Tiffani is so sweet and has such a good heart. Dan has been so helpful and has gone out of his way to make the experience here. Hey, this is an old school neighborhood bar. Don't expect anything fancy, but the bartenders are very friendly and helpful. People tend to stay to themselves so it's a nice quiet place to meet some friends and have a beer or two. There is no food there so just be prepared for that. Came here for the first time about a month ago on a Sunday night. I was staying at a hotel across the street and seen a neon beer sign from my hotel window and decided to check it out. They also have karaoke on the weekends if you like to sing. Annette the bartender is really friendly and makes excellent Bloody Mary's. My go to drink is pbr; all drinks are really cheap granite it's a dive bar. Just like any other dive bar it has darts and a pool table. This is a hidden gem if you are from sunnyvale or visiting sunnyvale this is a must. I'll be coming here more often at least once a week. read more

Ashley is a rude bartender who needs to be disciplined immediately. She refused to serve drinks and she would sit at the bar and hangout with the patrons for 20+ mins not doing her job at all. If I was her manager I would definitely have a word with her. She was also cursing at the top of her lungs which annoyed many of the other customers there causing some to leave. This place has such incredible vibes! Everyone is so kind and welcoming-- from the staff to the patrons. They have giant Jenga for free, a pool table for $1, and karaoke twice a week. The bar itself is totally cool. I heard about it and went a week ago and had a great experience. My moscow mule was great! Not so good this time...I took a friend there this past week, Oct 13 a Friday and the day bartender (I believe she is German) who left around 6pm was extremely rude and there was no reason to be. I usually drink wine but decided to order something else since it's not a place to order wine, and she asked what kind of vodka I wanted in my drink. I said "something that won't give me a headache" and asked bartender what she recommended. She said I had to tell her what kind of vodka I wanted..she would not list any and I don't know what choices I have since I rarely drink anything but wine. She would not even list one kind of vodka the bar had so I ordered a basic Stoli. A bartender should be nice to guests or say "well, my recommendation is ....., but you may not like it". She was also rude to my guy friend as well. I saw 2 other guests approach the bar sit down, get the same type of snotty service so they left and sat at a table as I heard them mumble something bad about the service. The 6pm shift bartender with dark hair came on her shift and was the NICEST ever... I don't know if the 1st bartender was having a bad day, but I did not do anything to be rude, did not ask lots of questions, only asked about the vodka. We only stayed longer since a new bartender came on as the first one was not very talkative with guests, didn't ever smile. I was a cocktail waitress many years ago and a bartender is a service job; you are requested to be nice to guests to keep their business. I will call first before I go again to make sure the rude bartender isn't there! If the bar had a website, I would have written to them directly instead of having to post a review, but they don't, so now others will see my post regarding the Fri day time bartender and how rude she is. Reading through reviews from years ago, it also mentions a rude German female bartender, so hoping she has not been employed 7 years if she was the one receiving mostly bad reviews about her attirude back then.. with that many Yelp comments 6-7 years ago, I would hope they have replaced that bartender so many reviews spoke of! read more

It's a dive bar. Don't expect much. Came here for the first. Time a few months ago before Halloween and it was pretty packed. Karaoke is what seems to be the driving force here on Friday and Saturday nights. Came back this past Friday and Saturday and still had a good time with maybe half the spot full on both nights. Came here on Friday and jacqlyn was our bartender. She is amazing. She made me remember why I prefer drinks at a place like this as opposed to a restaurant. Good mixed drinks and awesome pours and a personality like no other. She put up with my drunk friend, but we took him home about half way through the night. Saturday was just as fun, but our bartender was Nicole. Little less packed, but still the same vive and LOTS of regulars. Not that this was any fault on the Blue Maxx, but if you guys go here and the person singing isn't the best, keep your comments to yourself. There was a guy singing Metallica and two couples were at the table next to me and everyone commented on how he wasn't that great. Well neither were any of you so don't judge. Have been here sporadically many times over the years as it is very close to home. Blue Max never disappoints. From the saloon doors to get in, to the decently priced drinks, to the friendly bartenders. The highlight of Blue Max is Friday and Saturday night karaoke. Great KJ and always a good crowd. It's a dive bar in a strip mall with really decent affordable food if you're hungry before you're ready to slam drinks. Popeye's chicken, Pho Nam, Cheese Steak Factory, Fish & Chips, Dim Sum King and Adamson's French Dip are all right here and all good stuff. read more

This place is CLASSIC for karaoke! Looks like I was the only newbie, and they welcomed me with open arms. True neighborhood dive bar with a great local crowd - huge age range with an excellent cast of characters. Big plus for hubby was the pool table, even though he didn't win. He says "I almost won one. 2nd time. Popped in at about 6:15 and as I waited ( which isn't a problem) I was 2nd in line. The Bartender turned to me for my order and then grimaced a gesture that I gather meant she didn't hear me. I repeated. Then I told her which tequila. She had this smirk on her face that didn't leave pretty much the entire time she made my drink. The time I waited I never saw her react with a smirk to any of the other patrons. It felt unfriendly and as though I was an imposition to serve. What elevated it was her motioned demonstration of pouring my drink. Pouring the tequila then saying "tequila ", and exaggerating the rest. What was foul was that she put a straw without a wrapper after handling money, then awkwardly trying to remove a large ice block on the top of the glass with the side of her hand...gross but also strange. I asked for a lime by saying, "Do you have limes?" She says "yes, do you want one?" I told her it is why I asked so please. Then she mumbled something inaudible. I just wanted to get away because by this time I noticed the bar counter was quiet and the half dozen men sittting there closest to us were focused on this transaction....I just wanted to leave. But no, I asked to pay, but quickly observed this EXTRA level service to a couple of patrons at a table that never went to the bar to order. She shouted over about drinks and even brought them to the table. I don't know. I felt unwelcome, no greeting and tension...very odd. I came alone regardless of whether I'm a regular or gender, that only sent one kind of message and I won't be back. read more

Saturday night karaoke is a blast. The karaoke dj she was the best I've seen and she blew my mind with her amazing voice. She was super nice and I enjoyed talking to her. I like this place, the door reminds me of the old westerns with the swinging doors when your walking in the bar. I walked in extra slow just to have that moment. The drinks are very good here, prices aren't bad. Very , very stiff jello shots, probably the stiffest I've ever had, right on. Talk about getting yer moneys worth even tho it was cheap anyway. The bartender is really nice and friendly . They have a decent pool table , plenty of seats and stools in the bar and lounge area. Also the karaoke rocks!
