We arrived on a holiday and it was an hour and a half wait. We went across the street to the cabana bar and filled up on drinks while we waited for a table. Once inside, it was cold and windy, but the servers grabbed a piece of Keylime pie for us to share before it was gone. We ordered coffees and although though they were lukewarm, they still helped us warm up. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the servers were pleasant and accommodating. Me and my buddy ordered the lobster and steak omelette and the lobster BLT Benedict to split so we could experience both. The service, food, and drinks were primo! Everything was absolutely delicious. The key lime pie, although popular for highest meringue topping, was overrated. Without a doubt the best brunch experience in Key West. There was a 1 hour wait so we found 2 seats at the bar. This worked out great for us since the bartender was awesome and extremely attentive. My wife had the lobster Benedict and I had the special Benedict of the day, surf and turf with a perfectly cooked skirt steak and lobster. Both were delicious. We were in Key West for a weekend trip and friends told us we had to go to Blue Heaven, whether we dined anywhere else in Key West or not. We made a reservation in advance by phone for a Saturday evening dinner and arrived a few minutes before our dinner time and were warmly greeted by the host staff and were seated outside near the live musician performance stage. The server came by and greeted us and also wished me happy birthday and took our drink order. We all ordered mixed drinks at a great price, and the drinks were all a good pour and amazing quality! We ordered ceviche to start (around $15), and all ordered different entrees. I ordered the pork tenderloin (around $30) and it was OMG amazing, very good quality and very flavorful. The wait for brunch was insanely long, and they ran out of pie at brunch time, but both were worth the wait. We sat inside for brunch and outside that afternoon. Everything about this place was average. Service and food was just okay, a little pricey even for what you are getting. We did walk up and they were able to accommodate a party of 11 within 15 minutes. I would try and find another place unless this is the only option. Food is edible, just nothing special. It's a cute atmosphere but the food quality didn't live up to the 50 mins wait. I had the Na-tiki punch, and it was extremely sour, and didn't have much of a passionate fruit taste to it. I heard a lot of good things about this place, but though we loved the ambiance, I can't say the same about the food or the service. Our waiter seemed to definitely be on a relaxed Key West time, rather than trying to efficiently tend to his tables. My dining partner was feeling under the weather, so only had the toast that came with my omelette. I had an Avocado omelette. I didn't care much for the ginger black bean sauce on top, which seemed out of place to me and didn't really add anything. It was OK. It seemed it needed something, maybe mushrooms? It had no texture on the inside. The melted cheese was soft and the avocado was soft, so just too much of the same texture. The fresh fruit that came with it was very good, and the best thing I ate there. There was nothing else that came with it, which allowed me to save room for a piece of the key lime pie I'd heard so much about. That turned out to be a huge disappointment. I've been sampling key lime pie across the island since we got to Key West. I have to say this was my least favorite. It looked impressive, topped with a huge mound of meringue. But I found the meringue inedible, almost rubbery. The pie was very dense, made with more flour than other versions I'd sampled. It was less creamy and more like a cheesecake. It had a dense graham cracker crust, which I also didn't care for. I did not eat very much, and for $13 for a slice of pie, it was the most expensive of any of the others I've tried. In my opinion, it was not worth the calories, so I just chose not to eat it. As my friend was not feeling well, he did not share any, so it's a shame it all went to waste. Had this been my first experience eating key lime pie, I'd never touch it again. That's how much I disliked it. They had some live music, and the atmosphere was cool. But the fact that we had an inattentive waiter that couldn't care less about us, and food that was just OK, I have to say this was our least favorite place in our stay in Key West. Perfect Key West vibes, came to Blue Heaven with my husband and dog and loved everything about it. There was a band playing at 11am on a Monday. The breakfast was amazing. The omelet and shrimp and gits perfect sized. The service was great, hostess was a little slow to come to the front. We did wait out there quiet a bit without anyone coming to seat us. Six of us just came to Blue Heaven for their drinks and their amazing Key Lime Pie! It was crazy busy inside. Luckily we were able to find spots at the inside bar. The bartender was fantastic. She was quick taking our drink orders and our drinks were great. We ordered 3 slices of their Key Lime Pie with the sky high meringue. The meringue was done perfectly! It is so lite and airy. Not overly sweet and not heavy tasting. It was just right. The Key Lime Pie filling was delicious too. Another example of something done to perfection. Heard this was one of the best places to go for breakfast in Key West. One of their main selling points was eating with chickens all around you, so absolutely I had to go. The stories were true. Our server was very nice and kept our drinks filled. The kitchen was painfully slow, which I thought was weird, since we were like second in line when they opened. But that's ok. At least there were chickens. I had an omelet. It was a special that day, with lobster. I think it was a lobster BLT? That sounds right. Either way, it was delicious. Large chunks of lobster and everything else. It was less omelet and more a bunch of ingredients under an egg blanket, but it was still delicious. Not a ton of seasoning, because, clientele. Served with delicious toasty toast. Yum. I also got to try the Rooster Special (Two Eggs Any Style, Potatoes or Grits, Bacon or Spicy Sausage and either little Pancakes (serving until 12pm), or Toast or Banana Bread). Fried eggs, good, potatoes, perfectly cooked with just a little bit of char, bacon, nice and crisp, and the banana bread, wow, the best part. Not too sweet, just dense enough, banana flavor present but not too harsh. I loved this. Of course, we had to finish off with the Our Famous Key Lime Pie (Made with a buttery cracker crust, freshly squeezed lime juice, sweetened condensed milk and lots of meringue). Wow! A perfect curd that was just sweet and tart enough, balanced out with a Lot of meringue. It looks like a gimmicky photo op, but it's quality and delicious. It was like hanging out in someone's backyard bar area that happens to have chickens everywhere. So much fun. Service was good. Our server took care of us as best he could. Good was pretty good. I stopped into Blue Heaven for nothing more than dessert and coffee, and somehow ended up stepping into an entirely different universe. From the outside, it looks like a cute Key West building... then you walk in and BAM -- suddenly you're in a tropical backyard shared with roosters, musicians, and people who look like they've been happily lost here for hours. The coffee was great, the dessert was even better, and the live music made me feel like I should've brought a ukulele or at least pretended I knew how to play one. Blue Heaven's breakfast was delicious. My eggs were a little soft for my liking; however, the waitresses took them and had them scrambled harder. They were perfect. My husband had pancakes, eggs and potatoes which he seemed to really enjoy! We tried the key Lime pie. It wasn't our favorite. The waitress was not very personable and seemed like she wanted to rush through taking our order. I understand it was extremely busy with customers as we did have to wait a few minutes to be seated; however, customer service is a biggie for us! The Lobster Benedict was an AMAZING dish, the lobster, eggs, and English muffin was just the perfect combo. Also of course the Key Lime Pie was a 10/10 as it being my first Key Lime Pie and now definitely not last! We went at 10 but ate at 11:45 because of the 1 hour and 45 minutes wait but it was honestly worth it, the customer service was good too as our waiter was super nice. He was simply the nicest guy & appropriately attentive. We shared our meals-we ordered shrimp & grits and a veggie omelette with banana bread and wheat toast. Both were very good. The shrimp had tails on (boo) and could have a bit more sauce. I would have loved the grits to be creamy cheese grits (sorry I was daydreaming). The omelet eggs were cooked too hard and it was not a true omelet as the veggies were under the eggs not inside. But the banana bread was the silent hit! We each took home a fresh baked loaf!!! Heard of this place from tours and reviews of Key West. Tour guides mention that this used to be a brothel during the time of Ernest Hemingway. Walked in here on a Tuesday lunch. Though I was told the wait would be 30 minutes or less, it was indeed less than 30 minutes. Got seated outside. There was live music at that time. Chickens were roaming around and their excreta were everywhere. Cold glazed coffee, sauteed mahi mahi plate and chicken salad were alright. The plates we used were chipped and faded. Flies were everywhere. Food was nothing special. The service was okay but the overall experience was disappointing and does not live up to the hype as a must visit in Key West.
