She's baaaaack! Fancy coffee, that is. Blue Bottle coffee was one of the #1 things I missed during quarantine and I have to say, it's good to have them back in my life. Blue Bottle's order and pick up situation was also one of the safest I've seen. They closed all of their cafes pretty early on in the pandemic (indoor access is still closed--it's pick up only) and totally nailed it when it comes to reopening safely. So, what's the deal? How do you order? You have to download the Blue Bottle app (not sure how this works if you don't have a smartphone as I'm not seeing an option on their website). Select the cafe near you and place your order via the app. The app does a good job at sharing their safety protocols and a pick up time for your order (I included a few screenshots). When you arrive, there are six foot markers for the line and a sign asking folks to wear a mask and socially distance. There's a table with a barrier at the front door and no one is allowed inside. My coffees were ready right on time (twice in one week!) and made to perfection. The baristas and staff are jumping through a lot of hoops so we can have a latte right now, so if you can, tip heavy!! Note: parking in Old Town is kind of a nightmare and the lot I like to use near this Blue Bottle location is closed right now. I don't mind parking a few blocks away and using the Passport app to pay meters, but it looks like a few people (probably illegally) pulled over right in front of Blue Bottle to snag their drinks. Nice, strong coffee. This is located where the old Coffee Bean used to be, so that right there should tell you it's a super small cafe. Not a lot of wiggle room inside other than to order and wait. However, they do utilize the patio area so if anyone feels inclined to stick around and enjoy Pasadena's finest on a nice day, they can. I got the New Orleans coffee and it's a bit stronger than I thought it would be. It had the right amount of sweetness, though, and it wasn't overloaded with a ton of ice, neither. Service was super quick and I didn't wait very long for my order. The baristas were very friendly and gave warm, authentic smiles. Now that's important because I can tell they like their jobs and well, happy employees makes for better coffee. I do recommend if you're in the area. There is nearby parking for free 90 minutes (that fills up rather quickly), but you can also use the metered parking at the parks d walk up. read more

I love a simple Americano because you can best taste the flavor of the beans. -------------- Originally from Oakland, CA, Blue bottle coffee has slowly migrated into Southern California. They are known for their high quality of coffee and are considered to be one of the companies in the "third wave of coffee." I'm a simple coffee man; a good pour over or a good espresso fills my soul with such joy. I have nothing against cappucinos or lattes, I just like to taste the flavor of the beans and Blue Bottle always comes correct. If Intelligentsia's beans are a little bit more on the roasted side, and Go Get Em Tiger is more on the acidic side, Blue Bottle is right in the middle. It starts off acidic and then ends with a round earthy flavor. I really dig the taste of their coffee and always find myself sipping from an empty cup way too quickly. The store front is kind of small, the door swings inward into the line and causes quite a traffic jam when it gets busy. There is only seating for about 7 people inside, but on the outside there is a couple of tables and benches which on a cool day should be fine. Like the other Blue Bottle locations, the ambiance is this laid back sterile look that, depending on the customer can either be very Apple, or very Ikea. Personally, I like the minimal look, it's not pretentious and let's the customer know that they are focused on the coffee. If you've never had Blue Bottle before, I would definitely give it a try, I'm sure you'll be surprised. read more

The New Orleans Iced Coffee is the star once again. The Chickory root is so tasty and refreshing every time. There's a little kick of flavor - that interesting Chickory. Truly enjoyable, never fails. This drink in particular takes almost no time to be prepared and came out very quickly, like not even 20 seconds. This location was immaculate like you'd come to expect at Blue Bottle. The interior is minimalist, just what's needed. There's lots of natural light. The staff is kind and pleasant. There is a limited amount of seating and table space inside as this is not somewhere to sit for an extended period to read, study, or chat. More of a grab and go kind of vibe. But take your time. This Pasadena location currently allows a maximum of 3 people inside, and has a small outdoor patio. The Muscovado Sugar Latte was excellent. Blue Bottle only sells coffee that is 48 hours or less out of the roaster, so it can be enjoyed at peak flavor. All of their roasts are single origin, and the high quality is reflected in the incredible taste. I got it iced, with oat milk, and loved the subtle sweetness and bold, nutty flavors. The bakery case featured selections from Sugar Bloom Bakery, a local wholesaler lead by Bouchon visionary Sharon Wang. I chose the Chocolate Croissant, which was expertly executed, but absolutely should not have been served cold. The chocolate nestled between the delicate layers was solidified into hard little squares. Be sure to ask for anything you order from the bakery case to be warmed up. I will likely stop here again for coffee when I am in the area, but would not go out of my way. read more

But still a good little place to chill and and relax if you are there to just chill. The main drink I get at all Blue Bottles is their Pour Over. You get to choose the coffee and just let it ride with the barista start your drink. I feel they put in a lot of effort into the drink, which I totally appreciate. The drink came out great. Hot, but not scalding. Flavor was good and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. A couple other coffee-centric shops are around so it's good to have this here. read more

Where do i begin? I can't in good conscience say i'm a coffee connoisseur. I've always been turned off my it's bitter taste, too much so too care about any underlying flavor notes it may or may not have. I drown my coffee in cream and sugar if i must have it. Blue bottle changed my entire opinion about, and overall approach to coffee. This is the smoothest, most well rounded coffee and espresso i've ever had. I would never in my wildest dreams order a macchiato, specially not without adding sugar. That's exactly how i drink it here. In its original form, as a double shot, with steamed milk over it. It's just lovely. Everything i've tried from their menu so far has been consistently well made. Don't even get me started on the foam art... they present you with a gorgeous design every time, even in those tiny espresso cups!!! How do you guys do that??? This is our neighborhood location that my husband and I frequent quite a bit since we live right by it. Our go to order is either a Shakerato or a New Orleans style Iced Coffee with oat milk. These drinks are always consistent when we get them. They are tasty, lightly sweet, and very smooth. I will say that it is for sure overpriced for what it is, but it's yummy and we crave it. The main reason for the low rating is that the staff have been consistently rude to us. It's not lost on me that working in service can be really hard and even more so since the pandemic. I wouldn't say anything if it was a one off experience, but the last four times have all been consistently bad. We are super down to earth and are always intentional to be friendly and tip well, so I'm not sure why this is the case but it's not a good look, and it comes off as incredibly pretentious. I love that Blue Bottle opened in Pasadena!! Their coffee is truly the best. The interior is minimalistic which I love and clean-feeling. The baristas definitely warm the place up though! Kind, welcoming, friendly. I loved that they made me feel at home. The barista was very accommodating and kindly let me know to let her know if I needed any more milk or water. I just got a plain old americano with a splash of almond milk, but the almond milk was given in a small cup - allowing me to poor as much or as little as I wanted. I have never had any cafe serve me my usual americano with almond milk in that way before, I appreciated that so much! Only downside is that it's not as work friendly as I hoped as there is no WiFi. I'd recommend this place to be more of a catch-up with friends sort of cafe or quick to-go coffee run. It's right next to a 90 min free parking lot so that's always a plus! read more

Yea THIS location is the coffee house equivalent of "The Emperor's New Clothes". I bought a bag of beans, a mocha and a late' , $2 tip over $26 bucks.... The Beans - The bag of coffee is only 8 OUNCES! They do not provide grinding as a service. If you're charging $13 for a half pound of beans, you should be able to invest in a grinder. Certainly no fault to the employees, but a pretty big fail for the company. Grocery stores have grinders dudes. The Drinks- Cold, Weak and Smalllll. The cups of coffee were as small as juice cups. Seriously not bigger than the smallest size at Peet's or Starbucks. One drink was $6 the other $5 and both were Luke warm to cold. Just to confirm I ordered hot coffee not iced. There was not a single person in line and I still waited over 10 minutes for two cold cups of coffee... and you can't even taste the coffee. All water and milk. Cops Vida! Intelligentsia! There are great high end amazing coffee joints in walking distance to this location of Blue Bottle. Your value, quality and experience will be much better at any of those locations. The drinks are overpriced for such tiny amounts. We understand the prices are a bit higher due to the pandemic, but this is way below average standard for coffee. The cappuccino is so tiny but cost $5, and tastes the same as the iced cafe latte! Moreover, the coffee drinks were so bland; it almost tasted like water with a sprinkle of coffee. If I wanted to drink water, I would have done so at home and not wasted gas and money for this. I am not at all satisfied with what I received. I might as well have gotten Starbucks but I wanted to try a new place; I deeply regret that decision now. Also, we got iced drinks but they were placed in paper cups, resulting in such a flimsy container. In conclusion, this is probably the worst coffee place I've ever been to. read more
