I consider this restaurant a "holiday" spot, because I only find myself at these locations at most once a year. I've only had 3 experiences at Blu Wolf, and I have to admit none of them gave me the urge to come back. My latest experience however, finally got memorable enough to write a review. As others recommended, there are 3 prime reasons to come to Blu Wolf that I concur on: 1- Location on park ave, especially with the outdoor seating 2- Generous food portions for the price 3- Drinks are strong; served heavy and poured heavy (I hope I'm not outing anyone!) Aside from those prime reasons, everything else is just okay. And being okay is fine. And being fine is acceptable. But being acceptable isn't exciting to me. On a more positive note, my service was very quick, attentive, and apologetic for mishaps. She was a very nice server (Leah, I think?), and my experience with her has changed by bias against the caliber of service here that I had in the past. As for my meal, my latest dish was the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese and the cup of Southwest Chicken Soup. And to be completely honest, I was more stoked for my soup than I was for my sandwich afterwards. The soup was not salty, and the mix of corn, veggies and bacon really whet my appetite. I wish I had ate a double order of it! The pulled pork sandwich was very large, with plenty of sweet BBQ glazed meat along not-so-sharp/bold cheese macaroni inside. Much to my dismay I noticed some white clumps in the sandwich, and I think that's mayo cooked inside? I'll need someone to correct me on that. Either way, I got full, but the sandwich wasn't memorable... I found myself wanting a pulled pork sandwich from another joint. Blu Wolf always catches my attention during my travels, but the content is just mediocre to me. Every time I stop by I hope the food had evolved to something better, but I end up disappointed. And being disappointed is okay. And being okay is better than being bad... at least, that's how I'm trying to justify my choice of eating here. read more

I love their Hangover bowls for brunch, esp the ones with mac cheese and pierogis. I love their burgers, esp the Mac Daddy with a Mac cheese patty on top of the burger with a delicious cheese sauce. Been here several times in the past and the food has always been very good. The service has been good or even great at times. The family enjoys coming in from the suburbs to experience all that the Park Ave area has to offer. So that made the Blu Wolf a popular choice for Father's Day late lunch. We rolled up to the front door at 2pm to see a hand written sign "closing at 3pm" which seemed odd since the on line hours said they were open until midnight. After standing there for about 5 minutes, someone from the kitchen crew rolled out and said they were closed. No reason was given just "closed". I know it is hard to find reliable help but this is unacceptable. Leadership needs a plan B for when employees call in. The 6 of us ended up going back to Fairport and spending $300+ on a nice lunch and drinks at Tin Cup which was very nice. May go back to BW but not anytime soon. Walked in around 3:30 on a Saturday for a late lunch - waited at the door for longer than I feel would be normal. We were about to walk out when we were finally acknowledged by someone and seated. Once we were seated, took awhile for us to have someone come and get our drink order. The place was not insanely busy, but perhaps they were short staffed. Once we were finally waited on, one of our beers we ordered was not available, so that was sad. Moving on, we finally ordered an app and our entrees, and the food made up for the wait time (which may have been almost normal, but I was starving so take 5 minutes and multiply by 20!). We ordered the wolf bites as an app - and they were phenomenal!! Their sauce is amazing, and has a little zing to it that really gets your tastebuds awakened. I ordered the Guinness burger and it was SOOOOO good. The sweet potato fries were a little thick & soft, but the cinnamon sugar topping made up for that. Well a few things come to mind but the first 2 things are that they have mice. I mean the few times I have been there I've seen a mouse almost everytime. 2nd of all the food used to be really good but when I got the chicken Cobb salad it had only half the ingredients and the chicken was so cold! When I told the server she came back with what looked like the same salad and she had so much attitude, I couldn't believe it. Love the patio area and the vibe of Park ave. Our lovely family treated us to brunch and of course I had to try the lunch side of the menu. The sliders were so delicious and cooked medium with tomatoes with caramelized onions, the buns were so fresh and soft. The dirty/sloppy Mac is basically meat sauce inside the Mac and cheese, which was delicious after some salt and pepper. Our server was very pleasant, he apologized for the inconvenience of the cappuccino machine being broken. But I got him to offer of coffee and that made our day. This place is one of my go-to places for really good food with a trendy atmosphere. I absolutely love the set-up and design of this place. Every time I go, the servers and hosts are friendly. This is a plus, since I feel like this seems to be lacking these days. Their Pretzel Fondue is a must for an appetizer. I had the Wolf Bites one time and I wasn't impressed. My favorite meal here is brunch. It's usually my first choice for brunch. Their "bowls" are ridiculous. Think breakfast garbage plate and they come in a variety of ways. They recently revamped some of the items on their menu and there are some interesting new things. My new favorite is the Gastro Plate which is their version of the garbage plate and it's absolutely INSANE! Andy was hands down one of the best servers we've had since we could remember. Extremely hospitable and knowledgeable about the menu as well. We decided to take a walk along Park Ave to find something to eat, we had our dog with us so we needed to find a place with patio seating on a sunny Thursday night. We saw some openings and were quickly seated in the ample outdoor space at Blu Wolf. I had been to Blu Wolf one time for only drinks and this was my first full dining experience. So many parts of the experience were on opposite ends of the spectrum so I'll go with the pro and con approach in this review. The pros: The beer list is excellent! They have a ton of draft lines with some harder to find beers. I had my eye on a Single Cut that was kicked but was happy to find some of the last of the Genny Kolsch in town and had one of those. The price points for good beers are really good, and calibrated to drink size, you can get a 20 oz Genny for $5 or a 13 oz Imperial Stout for $6, so there is no sticker shock and you get the right sized beer. The service was great! We had an item we didn't like and when I told our server he was quick to remove it from the bill. This isn't a requirement for me by any means- I order it, I eat it, or I don't. This was a pleasant surprise. The cons: We aren't meat eaters and the menu is very burger and meat heavy. I was excited to see a lobster roll, but passed it up because I'm don't like sriracha and that was a main ingredient. I went with the tomato soup and a side salad, and my partner had a quinoa burger. Spoiler alert, the thing we didn't like or eat was the quinoa burger. This burger is starch on starch and not a great substitute for a burger. I'll say this, while I totally appreciate people making house made veggie burgers, there are also some really good ones on the market that taste better. The tomato soup was tasty and not overly heavy, it was served with a mini-grilled cheese. This was the best part of our meal. The side salad was a bit bland with diced tomatoes, mixed greens and not much else. We will be back for craft beer and patio seating, but we will skip dinner. read more

Surprisingly, this was my first visit here, but it definitely will not be my last! I went here on a Friday night with a group of 10 people. We called for a reservation a few days in advanced and they had no problem seating us right away. From there we ordered a bunch of appetizers, entrees and dessert. The service was great for how packed the restaurant was and for the size of our party. I ordered the Cajun Shrimp and Chicken Pasta dish, I know they're known for their burgers, but I couldn't resist this! This dish was delicious!!! I would definitely recommend it if you like something with a little kick to it! I also thought it was reasonably priced for what it was and the portion of it. My roommate ordered a fish fry, which looked awesome! Usually she would get a burger, but she decided to switch things up and was really pleased. To the end night we split a dessert fishbowl, which had brownies and ice cream in it. 4 of us had shared the fishbowl, but we couldn't even finish it! Overall I had a decent time at the Blue wolf Bistro. It was a nice outing after months of being inside as the location has a decent outdoor area which is mostly covered. The location is very central to Park Ave which is always a plus so it's super easy to find. The service was very nice, efficient, and attentive given the current limitations and regulations. The restaurant also appears to be adhering to face covering and social distancing as much as possible. My negatives mostly came with the food. The food was overall pretty decent but there were some peculiar things that I didn't like. I got the wild game burger and I think the menu needs to do a better job explaining how it works because I had to ask the waitress to make sure I was understanding it correctly since it wasn't fully described. However I think the idea is fun, as you can try some new and interesting meats like bison! When I got the burger it was a little under whelming, not much seasoning nor taste. I think I would have preferred a normal burger. I got the sweet potato fries and to be frank they just weren't good. They were not cooked completely as they were too thick (think sweet potato cut into 6 pieces thick) and they were barely seasoned. My friend got the lawful waffle and she thought it was decent but her waffle was burnt and this not as appealing to eat. So, my sister and I were searching for somewhere to have dinner, tonight, Monday 8/16/21. We wanted to sit outdoors, so we headed down to Park Avenue in Rochester, NY. We went into the Blu Wolf Bistro. It looked like a cute little place and we were immediately seated. We both ordered the blackened chicken caesar salad. When it came it was huge and it looked really good and it tasted good also. Then we started finding pieces of rotten lettuce in it. We picked them out and we told the waitress about it. She was very indifferent. She didn't say "I'm sorry, that's awful", "let me get you another one". She just said "okay I'll tell them". You'll see the pile of rotten lettuce in the photo. The salad was actually very good, but her attitude, with no apology or no empathy at all, was zero. I had to ask her to remove one of the salads from the bill, but we tipped her for the entire bill as if we were being billed for two salads. We just won't ever go there again. With so many choices of places to eat, businesses are in competition with one another and can't afford to lose customers. Especially, when they're short staffed. This girl has a lot to learn about life and how to react to people. It wasn't her fault, clearly, but she showed no emotion, no customer service whatsoever. Having been in customer service myself for years, I can't even imagine reacting the way that she did or should I say her lack of reaction. I would have been mortified, as a waitress and apologetic. Visiting my daughter at school this weekend, we came here for brunch. The decor is nice; big 'leather' banquets, dark walls and a nice bar. We waited 20 minutes or so, not bad for a Sunday morning. The menu is creative offering a tasty variety of "hangover bowls"! One of our group had a Reuben sandwich which I am told was good. One had a chorizo hangover bowl. She liked it but they forgot to add the black bean salsa as described on the menu. I had the breakfast sammy which was good - but they forgot to add the goat cheese which (to me) would have been a key ingredient. So although it was all tasty, they got 2 of 3 meals a bit wrong. The breakfast potatoes were dull and flavorless, and subtract from the quality of the other foods. They should change them to something better or not serve them at all! The service was very friendly but slow; it was busy and they seemed a little short handed so we didn't get a lot of attention. This is an interesting burger bar and we've been here a couple of times. The one stand-out thing on their menu would have to be the wild-game burger. Every day, there is a new meat to enjoy in burger form! The only downside to this burger is that some meats shouldn't actually be put into burger form as they require more time to slowly cook and develop their subtle flavors. Regardless, it is an experience to be had. Their fries are also very good. On the downside, this place can get pretty expensive. Suggestions: Definitely go for the wild game burger and add some duck bacon. You'll have a contrast of a gamey meat with something less gamey. Next, get a milk shake. Sweet and sour sauce was good, but even better was our waitresses suggestion; mild sauce mixed with the garlic Parmesan. WOW! The wings were crispy and saucy, seemingly a hard mix to get right. Now for dinner I wanted to try so many things. The pastas looked amazing but I ended up going for a burger. I got the ghost pepper burger, because I always end up going for the spiciest thing on the menu when I can't decide. I replaced my meat sauce with caramelized onions, because I'm obsessed with caramelized onions. The burger was cooked perfectly. It was huge and I was so full but I still finished it. My sweet potato fries? Perfect. My friends regular fries? Honestly some of the best fries I've had. They also have great service and being on the corner of Park Ave, it's a great location for tons of outdoor seating! Blue Wolf Bistro, Some of the worst service I've received in Rochester. I have been here twice in the last few months with my girlfriend. The first time we asked about being seated and never were. My girlfriend asked a second time about being seated and was treated so poorly that we just left on the spot. I went back today, was seated fine, but then waited quite a while before being greeted. We placed a good and drink order that we had ready for the last 10 minutes and proceeded to wait another 10 for our drinks, and 20 for the food. I was still jazzed up when the food arrived as I had heard good things. Unsurprisingly it tasted like our food had been sitting for a while. My side was cold, my girlfriend's sandwich was soggy, and I was thoroughly disappointed. But it doesn't end there. Another 20 minutes go by before we are asked if we need anything. My side of fries not touched, my girlfriends drink (which she did not like) nearly untouched, and nibbles taken out a sandwich. By this time my card was on the table and I was ready to go. We are finally asked by our waiter if we need anything while a pile of fries and a nibbled soggy sandwich sit on our plates. The food seemingly looking our waiter back in the eyes screaming "LOOK AT ME, IM HIDEOUS." But the waiter apparently missed the fact that most of the food was still there and how we did not want a box. Look, I have worked in food service for over 8 years. I'm out now. I really like to tip well and support people in serving roles, but at the end of the day it's a job, and if you suck at it then you get paid less than those who do it well. As I write this review and tell friends and other about my experience, people are telling me more and more disgusting things that happen amongst the staff at blue wolf including spitting in food and drinks, badmouthing customers, etc. The food may seem good, nice atmosphere, but the staff just sucks. Oh yeah, AND ITS SO OVERPRICED. OVERPRICED. OVERPRICED. OVERPRICED. Especially if you wanna treat the people paying for that $20 burger and fries like crap. Delicious food starts with the eyes and nose. Despite the look, the meat was spiced nicely. Shut your eyes and take a bite. Delicious! The chicken enchilada soup was average in flavor, hearty with fixins, but not boastworthy. I wouldn't recommend the soup but based on the nachos, I'd be back to try other things. Update: I've returned twice since my first review. The service is terrible both times. The food isn't remarkable, and came out cold tonight. It looks like they only had one server working tonight and it took a long time to get anyone's attention. Came here on a Monday night. No hostess & when they did show up the phone rang & he answered the phone. No problem he acknowledged me with a nod before taking the call. He left the stand & went to the bar with the phone. We had 4 servers walk right past us & say nothing while we stood up there waiting. The hostess finally came back & then seated us. We sat in a booth. The booth had food on the seat & in the condiment holder there were old napkins & a folded up old beer menu. That tells you they don't clean them that often. I had the pretzels & my daughter had a side of fruit. My husband & boyfriend had the brisket Mac & cheese. It came out not even warm & their portions were very different sizes like it wasn't measured before coming out. Our waitress barely came around & then it took forever for her to do anything. She was very friendly but the speed of service after asking her for something was very poor. The prices here are absolutely outrageous for what you get. If you're looking for a great burger, Blu Wolf is the place to go! Their fries and onion rings are also amazing. I ordered the Pork rodeo burger ($15), which comes with pulled pork on a hamburger, with onion rings, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes, pepper jack, bbq sauce, all in between a cheddar bun. The waitress told me that they had run out of pulled pork, but they luckily had pork belly so they put that with no extra charge at all. And it was incredible. The cheddar bun is definitely the way to go, and even better that this burger came with it (it costs extra to go from normal bun to their special buns). The pork belly was juicy and soooo tasty! The burger itself, I wish wasn't as cooked as it was. It was more medium than the medium rare I ordered which is why they have one less star. So my burger was great, and then my friend decided to do their burger challenge! It comes with 4 8oz burger patties, a macdaddy patty (patty of fried mac n cheese), meat sauce, a pound of fries, and a milkshake, and all the lettuce and tomatoes of course. If you don't finish it, you have to pay $35, which isn't bad considering my one 8 oz burger cost $15. My friend had 40 min to complete it and no throwing up after. Unfortunately he didn't make it folks :(. So naturally I finished it for him (he had finished 3 of the burger patties, a few fries, the lettuce and tomatoes, and the milkshake - not that impressive right haha). The macdaddy patty is DRY, which is so disappointing since I was really between my pork rodeo and their macdaddy burger but clearly I made a good choice. My friend told me that all the burgers were cooked medium well, which definitely is not the best to eat since they're harder to chew. The staff should definitely ask how the challenger wants their meat right? Anyways, the staff was super nice and encouraging for my buddy challenger.
