Our first time experiencing the night life while in Tahoe. We popped in at 10:30, got our wrist bands and drinks. We were the firsts to arrive and music was cool at first. The DJ was playing bay area rap which got us pumped. We drank and danced but then the music got weird as the crowd started rolling in... my sister-in-law told me it's called electronica. It wasn't hard to dance to just different. Music was decent and set up was cool with the blue lights. There's no dress code and I wish I had known otherwise my feet would've have been in pain the time we were there :( They also allow people to smoke in the club which is just plain NASTY. But the best part of Blu is that bottle service is $85/bottle which is a LOT better than the clubs in the bay area. read more

So, I went to Blu Nightclub at Montbleu Resort (the old Caesars Palace) for New Year's Eve last night. I was in North Lake Tahoe skiing with friends for the week, and we decided to make the drive to the big city for some nightlife. We ended up paying $50 for club admission, and it was supposed to include free champagne; when we arrived, we realized that the free champagne was ridiculously difficult to get to (they definitely were not trying to give away any champagne). It was so tough to find a drink in the place - there were so few bartenders, and the bars were so crowded. Table service was also so expensive...and so not worth it (we ended up not getting table service). The music at the club was decent at times (cross between hip hop and pop), but later in the night, it went mostly euro techno. The crowd was interesting... There was a lot of dyed, teased hair....probably not my kind of crowd. If people think Tahoe will be similar to Vegas, it's definitely not. read more

Opal is better. This place is expensive, but does have a cool dance floor! The line took forever and the gal ringing people up seemed ver frustrated and overwhelmed. The girls in front of us were so sloppy drunk, yet they somehow were still let in. Crowded...sticky....gross....unattractive people....hot...sweaty....did I saw crowded yet???? Man I have never felt so much like a sardine in a can until I came to this club!!! Do people not know the meaning of having a personal bubble??? Or let alone clean oxygen to breathe??? Obviously not here.... The music was interesting...a lot of random rock/techno but not rock or techno that anyone normal could dance to ha so really this place just made you feel like you needed a shower pretty badly from rubbing up against all of the people they cram in here. you would think they violate fire code here, but somehow i guess it is legal. This place looks more like a club than opal lounge i guess, and when the music was good, it was great and definitely led to some fun dancing, but overall they need to learn when to stop letting people into this place!!! But i did get two free drinks from the bar tender here and their drinks when ordered are strong! So those are pluses in my book! read more

This place is craptastic! And I do mean that with some love - we went her at 1030pm on a Friday night - ladies are free before 11pm. It was dead inside and we were a bachelorette group so we begged for a free booth and got one in the corner. The place isn't that big but is set up nicely with booths scattered about and a large dance floor in front + a stripper pole -- a MUST for the drunk bride to be. Drinks weren't too badly priced and we got them very fast from our waitress. There are dancers who wear ugly mismatched outfits and a guy who paints half naked models with body paint to look like "clothes" - that was the entertainment. There were A LOT of guys here - to the point where I wished half would go away and stop trying to sneak up behind me. They did play a great mix of popular music and overall we drank too much and had a fun time. This place is no Vex - which is 10x better. But we don't want to pay an arm and leg and wait in line all night.... so keep this in mind! read more

Why? Why, Blu, do you insist on being so incredibly craptastic? You see, the problem is that you occasionally book some good music acts, so even though I know better, I keep giving you just one more shot, thinking that it will be a good time and your crapiness will be overshadowed by the music. But, sadly, this just never happens. The bouncers in suits out front take their job way too seriously, like we're in Vegas or something, and insist on making people wait in line even when the place is EMPTY. That's because they went to Bouncer Community College, where rule #1 is that a place is always cooler if there's a line and therefore requires bouncers to regulate it. The bartenders focus more on looking good and flipping bottles than on actually making real drinks with any modest amount of alcohol in them. The decor is Scarface meets Vanilla Ice (read: gaudy and full of mirrors and lasers, thrown together by a 16-year-old who just discovered raves). The floor is sticky, the sound is mediocre at best, and the crowd often ambushed by drunk bachelor partiers who, again, think this is Vegas. Grow up, Blu...why can't you be like your brother, Opal? read more

For the first 2 hours I was here, I thought I would definitely give this place 2 stars. Now that I'm getting older, I'm a little lazy about taking shots at the bar and dancing to top 40 hip hop all night, and I definitely don't want to pay a $20 cover for it. This club attempts to be Vegas-esque with its roped-off VIP areas that are half empty, practically naked dancers, "promoters" with their collars opened up at an angle (what's that look called?), and more VIP bed-like nooks. But people seemed to be having fun, there were plenty of places to sit, and there were a lot of ladies from bachelorette parties. But all I was really gonna say about the club was that it had the stickiest floors throughout the whole dancefloor...like flypaper sticky. I thought the soles of my flats were gonna rip off. Anyway, after my buzz wore off and I was wanting to go home around midnight, I started feeling really warm. I told one of my friends I would go out to the hallway to get some air. All of a sudden, I started getting dizzy...not spinnig head dizzy, but my head was rocking back and forth (I had been on a boat for 4 hours that day). I have horrible motion sickness and though I was fine the whole day, I think the alcohol enhanced it and it finally caught up to me. I blacked out! I fainted...for the first time ever! That was such a horrible feeling...some girls asked me if I was ok and walked me back to my friends and then apparently I fainted again and fell on my face. I didn't even remember the 2nd fall, but I do remember being carried onto one of the VIP beds and thinking "OMG, someone is carrying me!" Wow, I was even self-conscious about my weight in my semi-conscious state... So don't worry...I'm fine now. A week later, my neck's a little sore from my falls but no brain damage. So Blu gets an extra star for letting me and my friends chill on the VIP bed while I was recovering. We had just been kicked out of one of the beds 15 minutes earlier. I'm thankful they didn't escort me out the way I've seen bouncers kick out passed out, drunk fools at Vegas, SF, and SJ clubs. I swear it was the motion sickness! read more

No. No, no, no. What a total disappointment. Evil trick #1: My friends and I arrived at 10:45 to a pretty decent sized line. We're thinking "oh it HAS to be pretty full inside with this line." The way the entry is set up, however, you can't really gauge how busy it is inside for sure without going in. So you stand in line, thinking it's going to be awesome inside. And with a $25 cover on a Saturday night, it better sure as hell deliver. To top it off, it was my birthday and I was eager to be greated by a dance floor packed with happy, dancing people. FAIL. Not only didn't my friends and I blindly pay the cover, hoping for a good time, it was DEAD. Oh goodie. Evil trick #2: My friends and I decided to give this place a shot, since we already payed the cover, so we went to order drinks. We each order up and are STOKED by the $4 ticket price. Thinking "hey, they effed us on the line and the cover, maybe this is the clubs way of not effing us anymore." WRONG. The drinks had absolutely no alcohol in them. If I wanted to sip on cranberry, I would have just ordered just that. Not cranberry and VODKA. Not only did this place not deliver, the bartenders weren't all that friendly and on the border of being down right rude. After our first drink, and STILL no one there, I asked one of the bartenders "I don't normally do shots, but I like drinks that are a little sweeter, can you recommend something?" You would have thought I asked to borrow a kidney with the reaction I got, as if I put him into a really tight spot. "Um..*audible sigh*...I GUESS a Sex on the Beach?" Those were $5, smaller than the mixed drinks, and STILL had little to no alcohol. Thanks, man. And sorry I asked you such a difficult question. We barely spent and hour here and promptly left to a better, and CHEAPER, club. P.S.-The star is for the layout, because I actually liked the design of the club. We went here on a Monday night (yeah I know) so obviously it was DEAD! $10 cover with $1 call drinks all night...believe me, we more than made up for the cover. The drinks were a bit watered down but what do you expect for $1?! We were the only ones of the dance floor for part of the night, which would have been fine had the DJ been better. He took requests but took forever to play them (and he only played one song we requested) There were maybe 75 people in there so there was tons of room to dance and plenty of seating (probably the VIP area on weekends) Good for a weeknight, not sure about going here on a weekend though. read more

We went here on a Friday night with some of my cousins. We were all in town for a family wedding. The women got in free and there was enough room in the club to move and find a place to chill. The music was a little old school and some of the other ladies got a little crazy with the stripper pole. Seriously, there was one lady who was...let's say this isn't the vegas strip and if you want to do what you did then get your drunk self a room. My friends and I went up to Tahoe this past 4th of July and hit up Blu on a particularly drunken Friday night. There were 14 of us, guys and girls, and I think we ALL had a fantastic time. We probably came in around 10:30 or 11. When we got in line, we heard there was a $20 cover-- no way was that happening. One of the girls got the bouncer to let us in for $10 each, and with "girls drink free Fridays" we were content. The free drinks, btw, are well-drinks only. Now, even though I completely lost track of how many gin and tonics I had, I do remember quite a bit about Blu. 1. It was crowded but not disgustingly so. At first it was empty, but when it filled up, I didn't feel anyone trying to rub up on me (I'm particularly sensitive to this) and was able to find my group of friends easily. We were also able to sit down on the couches in the back, which I imagine are typically reserved. 2. There is a stripper pole. No, I did not go on it. 3. One of the dancers had "boots with the fur." Like actually FURRY boots. Great when the song came on. 4. People were actually friendly. I don't typically talk to strangers at clubs, especially when I'm there with friends, but maybe "hey, can you drink this for me? It was free and I don't want it" worked. The few guys we talked to were friendly but not creeper-status; we took funny pictures, they wore my friend's leopard-print sweater, but all was in good fun. So yeah, next 4th of July when we go back up to Tahoe, we are going to Blu. As long as it's a Friday and girls can drink free. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect of this place; I had received mixed reviews from friends. Went there for a buddy's bachelor party and had a wonderful evening. I have to say I was pretty impressed, considering how little there is to do in Tahoe. The size is adequate, the drink prices aren't too bad, and the ladies were hot to quite hot. Added bonus: They allow ins and outs so if your staying in the hotel, it's very convenient to go up to your room and make your own drink... The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the funky layout of the VIP booths... read more

Vex was crazy long so we went here for Saturday night. It's inside of MontBleu Hotel. Cover was $20 per person. Line was not too bad. Music was Top 40, Hip Hop and some House. The place was lively and packed but too smoky at times. Went here again on a Monday Night for President's Day. Line was insane. It was 11:30 and we had to wait 30 minutes or so in a smoky line and went in to find that the place was half full. WTF!!! Why do places do that to you! It did get packed later on. Cover was $20 for the men, $10 for the ladies. Coat check is $3.00. The funny thing is when we went to the bathroom, there was still a long ass line at the entrance side and it was 12:30 or so! Goodness gracious! Also there's no bathrooms inside the club, so one has to go down the hotel hallway as club goers gawk at you while they're standing in line. Now, image if you're drunk and stumbling to get there...........I guess that's one good reason to not get too trashed. The cool thing about this place is that every Monday is $1.00 drinks on well drinks, all night long. Not sure if the special applys to ALL drinks. Also, I heard that it opens till 4AM but not sure since we lefted @ 2:45 and the place was still hoppin'. It has a decently sized dance floor with plenty of VIP area roped off around the room. A small stage with a tall pole down by the dance floor and a larger stage for the go-go dancers. The dancers are usually in their lingerie and some are naked with only body paint for accessories. Overall, it's a pretty decent club with decent music that reminds me of some of the smaller clubs in SF but the only downside is the smoke. read more

Stopped by for an hour or so because the music at Opal was lapsing into lameness. The music was a bit better here although more ghetto at times. The crowd is younger than Opal, which can be good and bad. The night we were here was pretty mellow. A friend that works for the casino said that ladies drink free nights are scary, and even security dreads working those shifts because of all the fights that break out. read more

MontBleu has been trying to promote itself as a Las Vegas casino hotel located at Lake Tahoe. If this nightclub is any indication, there's still a substantial disconnect between what they want to be and what they are. While they may be portraying an image of being cooler than the average Tahoe casino/nightclub, they're not delivering it. I came here with some friends who were on the so-called VIP list after the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival last Saturday night (an awesome event). There was much chaos in getting us in, mostly due to the snooty cashier chick's inability to understand that while our friend's company was on the VIP list, the names had changed, and we were *not on it*. She still demanded our names multiple times, and despite our explanations, could not understand why she didn't see our names on the list. The assistant manager, who was a ringer for Lt. Disher on Monk, was a bit of an idiot, and after we were 'let' in, he looked at me, and I kid you not, told me that I had to 'take care of the cashier' who 'let' me in. This with a pointed gaze at what I assume was a tip jar. He repeated it, in case I didn't get it. Of course, no self-respecting curmudgeon will let herself get pushed around, so I ignored him and entered Blu, expecting some great music and ambiance for the hassle of entering. How wrong I was. Top 40 pop at sound level 11 is not what I go to clubs for. Especially half empty clubs. After a single overpriced Ketel One, I left. My beef is this - if I'm going to be hassled to enter a club, I'd better be getting some decent DJ effort to get me dancing. I reserved a private VIP booth for my sister's bachelorette party last weekend. I had been there for a bachelorette party last year and it was awesome. The club was packed, the service was great and we were true VIP's in the club....I made a mental note that if I had to do a bachelorette party in Tahoe, Blu was the place to go. We arrived with a group of 13 girls at about 10:30. There were very few people in the club and we were escorted to our VIP booth. Right away I noticed that there was no security at the bottom of the ramp to the VIP area. I figured there would be once more people entered the club. But alas, once people started arriving in the club there still was no security. This bothered me because I had paid extra for this booth when clearly any Joe Schmo who walked in had access to the booths that were not sold. I was also bothered because random men would wander up to our booth and try to help themselves to our alcohol that was set out on the table. One of us had to guard the alcohol at all times. Our purses were also on the benches...so we did not go as a group onto the dance floor because we felt someone had to stay and watch our stuff....last time the security guard watched all our things for us. When I mentioned this to the club manager who was 'taking care of us', he assured me that there were security cameras in the area. I told him that a security camera would do me no good if my purse was stolen that night with all my cash and my ID. In my past experience, no one was allowed in the VIP area unless a member of the group invited them in, clearly this was not the case. I was told on the phone that we would be charged 20% gratuity for the server and we were to take care of the club host/security separately. I had NO problem with taking care of people who were taking care of us, the server was very nice and helped us out, we took care of her....the security was non-existent, therefore so was the tip. Next time I am in Tahoe I would probably fork out the extra $$$ and get a VIP table at Vex. (it was very pricey in comparison to Blu, now I see why). The one bonus of club Blu was the ready and available stripper pole, that aspect of the club was VERY fun! read more

I called about table reservations the day before my wife and I were set to go and a guy called about 3-4 hrs. before with general cover information (ladies are free, guys are $10). When we showed at 10:50 PM, only Opal was open (dead also, less than 25-50 people) and Blu was closed. Casino was also void of life as well. I say gut the two clubs and invite live bands to play; the Cabo Wabo had a cheesy Sublime cover band but you couldn't walk in the place compared to Blu and it seemed like more people were having fun. I was excited for disco dancing on a Saturday night. Web site says doors open at 8 but turns out it's really 9:15/9:30. No biggie. Website says get in free if you dress in 70's or 80's garb. Turns out it has to be a total 70's disco look only (as they show you a picture there of what qualifies). I was dressed like I actually did in the 80's but was turned down free admission. That's whack. Considering there were about 20 people in there when we left about 10:30 they should let in more people for free. The DJ did not play a very good mix of music either. I am giving the club 3 stars based on the DJ alone. He played the same songs two or three times over and did not allow any requests. I think all of the songs were mixed on a cd and he was never actually changing anything. I would go to this clubs for 2 hours and leave or you are going to hear the stuff replayed. The staff was really nice and the bartenders were great. Atmosphere was chill- I recommend buying a table on busy nights if you are in a big group. read more

I would like to rate this 3.5 stars but yelp won't let me. I'll round up because the last reviewer gave it a real low rating so I feel like I need to defend it... Blu is great on Monday nights. It's $10 to get in ($5 for locals) and then any drink you get is $1. Everything. EVERYTHING. It's not like one of cheap drink nights where only wells or certain beers are cheap but if you want a red bull + vodka or something exotic like a French Poodle on a Harley you're going to have to shell out a lot more than a dollar. But you can't be like wtf? because they already made it and you don't want to argue and be a tightwad. Anyway, have no fear- this won't happen at Blu. Monday's usually have the perfect turnout, a good amount of people but not so crowded that you can't dance or get a drink. You can open a tab on a credit card, which is cool (Vex doesn't let you open a tab on their $1 drink night) and they also have a nice non-vip area that you can sit down at when you want to talk in private or just take a break from dancing. The problems: I've been there a couple nights when the dj sucked. There was great energy in the club, good crowd, but then a bunch of crap kept coming out of the speakers and nobody really wanted to dance. The other downer is that the nights other than Monday have been pretty dead when I've gone, but that might change durning the Summer when more people are in town.
