I've been here a couple times and it always seems like there is the same amount of staff vs customers. Not usually a good sign. This place calls itself a club but it's more like a dive bar with a dancefloor. The DJ does not do anything other than spin records, no banter or anything. The bartender and the bouncers are all pretty cool and friendly though. The ceiling has animated light stuff going on and the lighting in general is pretty well done. The music they play isn't half bad either but with it always dead in there, I have no idea how they stay in business. Probably worth a stop if they have more than 20 people inside and aren't charging a cover. I would stay away any other time though. read more

I lost my wallet at the zombie crawl this year and saw my card was used to send someone money on Venmo the next day At 12:36pm. I contacted the person who the money was sent to on Facebook, he told me that the bartender "James Mulligan" sent him money on Venmo that day but was unaware it was stolen or what card he might have used for the transaction. I left the bar at 3am the night before and asked the bartenders if they found anything. James was at the end of the bar working where I got my drink, as another tall bald man(he was nice). They gave me my ID BACK (that I know was physically in my wallet) and gave me the owners business card. I thought that was odd because I got one drink that night so I know the time of losing my wallet, & how much cash/cards were present in my wallet. I called the bar the next day on Sunday when they opened and was told it wasnt found. But the transaction was made around noon that sunday. WEIRD. my wallet had my old ID with all my information where I could've been reached out too. I have reached out to James online, no response. I just want the wallet itself, I could care less about the money or the grimey Mf who took it. It was my sisters wallet who recently passed away and that's the only reason I went on a whim to track it down. I have proof showing the transactions on my bank and messages about the transaction between a Jesse and James. seems odd that a BARTENDER of their establishment is not humble/honest enough to return some ones belongings/money back to them(with all my info to do so) let alone wait 24 hours till they open again to see if someone called/turned it in. Should be a 0 star . Beware of this place !!!!!!!!! As we walked in it was dead . Maybe two people which was fine . The first round of drink we were told it was 13$ for the two . Also not bad . Second round of the same two drinks we noticed the budlights were being rang up at 9$ and the 805 beer we were told was 4$ . The end of the rounds 4 drinks in total should have been 26$ if you did the original math correctly but we were charged 58$ for the 4 drinks (two budlights and two 805's ) and the bartender even made a point to say he "bought us a round" knowing Danm well we only had 2 drinks each . We left the bar unknowlingly of the cost of the tab because we just paid and left but the bank instantly shut down our credit card due to fraud alert . Also as we were there we noticed 3 girls working with the bartenders ordering " shots of water " from guys while the bartenders were pocketing the money . "Tonic" is different yet fresh for the Downtown Reno night life, as it feels like it should be in Seattle, San Francisco or even Los Angeles, but it's in Reno. Let me tell you why I enjoy "Gin and Tonics" at....."Tonic" Saturday September 1, 2018 Location: Tonic Lounge Reno, NV People: 3 Adults Story: Sometimes you just want to party, and that was the name of the game this weekend. After club/bar hopping all through downtown "Reno" I still wanted a bit more. My homies and I got kinda bored fast with "Top 40's" and "Karaoke" so I suggested "Tonic", good drinks and house music. It was pretty much a no brainier, only being a block away from the club we we're leaving, we made our way to "Tonic" Service/Hospitality: I must admit, the service here is pretty darn good. From the bouncers to the bartenders I had no complaints. For it being a busy Saturday night during "Labor Day Weekend" everything moved smoothly. Getting in was a breeze, getting drinks was a breeze, heck even using the restroom wasn't an ordeal as it usually could be waiting for the men's restroom in most establishments. The staff of "Tonic" runs a well oiled operation, I was pretty happy. Atmosphere: The vibe here is different from your adverage nightclub/lounge as "House Music/EDM" seems to bring in a more....mature audience. The DJ that was here this night had the crowd rocking playing some of that SF/Chicago style house music, only true fans of the style will relate. The crowd this night wasn't rowdy, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves all the way down to the bartenders that started doing flair moves while pouring drinks and mesmerizing the crowd. "Tonic" has a specialty drink list or you could get something basic. I opted for a shot of "Fernet" $4 and a "Gin and Tonic" $6 or course. The pour was just right and the shot went down just as a shot should. It wasn't overly crowded and the overall vibe was just on point. I had a really good time here and so did my homies. Overall: "Tonic" is a fun little place and a better "IMO" option for house music and after-hours than "1Up" which is a similar type of establishment that charges cover and have not so friendly staff. This place is a great nightcap or start of the night kinda place. No cover, great service, and most of all good music. I would recommend "Tonic" most definitely, although it may be a bit of an acquired taste for some. A great addition to the "Reno" nightlife that can honestly be a bit repetitive. But this is my opinion, go and see for yourself what I'm talking about and formulate your own opinion. read more

WORST "club" I have ever been too. Packed to the absolute limit and everyone in there is either on drugs or trying to fight. Have never felt so uncomfortable in a place I was in for only about 15 minutes. Had to leave because of it. Security guard was in the back by the bathroom screaming at the top of his lungs because of how frustrated he was with everyone in the club. People banging to be let in the back fire door, restrooms an absolute disaster. I will literally never set foot in this place again. read more

Usually a "last stop" kind of place before the night ends, after a bar crawl or when nothing else is open. Came here a few times with friends at the end of the Superhero bar crawl and after a long night at the Rack. It may have a reputation as a "scuzzy" bar in Reno with drug-using clientele, but overall it was really chill and I definitely enjoyed my time here. There's go-go dancers that dance in the little caged areas next to the DJs, the state of the bathroom is exactly how you think it would be, and there's a dance floor that's usually sticky because people probably spilled a million drinks before you got there. No dress code (Reno is a casual city as it is), come in your shorts and chucks or do whatever you want. The vibe is pretty interesting, they can project stuff on the ceilings and have fun animations to go with their EDM/bass/techno heavy tunes. Both times I've been there, the dj wasn't playing actual songs but just tunes with heavy beats that seemed to go on for hours (which I kind of don't really enjoy, because I like it when you can sing to songs and dance...this one was kind of just people swaying and bouncing to the music because that's sort of how you dance to mellow techno am i right?) Really not a bad place, pretty reliable overall. Very dark inside and divey, but consistent and you'll have a good time if you're with good people. Extra pro that it's open super late, and everyone is pretty chill there (never really had a bad interaction with anyone here). Close to a lot of other places and walking distance from cheap/free parking. Honestly probably a staple in Reno night life. read more

What can I say, Tonic is just one of my favorite nightlife hangouts in Reno. BUT! I'll tell you why and give you some info on whether it's right for your night out. First of all, the ambiance is different than a lot of clubs or bars. The sound system was upgraded as well as a light of the light systems and they're very cool! The music is specifically House EDM music and the owner likes to keep it that way, which is definitely okay for me. There's plenty of dance space and separate chill space. Lighting (as you can see from photos) is pretty dark and club-y. I also love Tonic because it's a place where I can sit around with friends with not a lot of pushy people. Bartenders are all amazing and provide great experiences. If you're here before midnight, there's not a bunch of people here so it's a pretty chill environment (smoking friendly). But after midnight, it becomes the place to be. Lots of people come here for their end of night continuation party. Then it gets busy almost any day of the week. If you're looking for an upbeat environment with a lot of diversity and fun, this is the place! read more

He gave us our Yelp check-in drink with a smile, and provided us with some conversation as he poured our drinks. The bouncers are super unfriendly. If they had more than just 1 restroom for the women, it would be awesome. If you use the men's, they will barge in there and literally bang on the door and cuss at you while you are using it. The least they could do is wait until you are done and then bark at you or kick you out instead of being in the bathroom with you alone and making you feel uncomfortable. I'm surprised there hasn't been any lawsuits for this (that I know of). There should be no reason why they should be in the restroom with you with the door closed regardless if it's a "men's" restroom. I only went there because my friends uncle was the DJ Saturday night, but I won't be back, absolutely ridiculous how these bouncers talk to people, especially women, it's like they've never been taught how to be respectful. read more

Tonic is that place you end up at when it's 3am and you're too drunk to realize you'd be better off just going home. They charge a cover everytime I'm there. Bars should not ALWAYS charge to get in. That's ridiculous. Yeah, I know you have to pay the DJ and the seven burly bouncers but This isn't a nightclub, it's a bar. Charging more than one night a week is ridiculous. The music is mediocre, sometimes there will be a good show though. Drinks are bad! I ordered a gin & grapefruit juice and for some reason the bartender put sour mix in it! Wrong. Most recent time I was there a huge fight occurred. They decided it was time to close up, instead of simply telling the crowd, "Sorry time to go!" They all started yelling, "GET THE F*&%K OUT!" Now... This was a few years ago, so perhaps things have changed... But I don't think these types of establishments should get forgiveness. The late aura of this "fine" establishment entices the out too late and couldn't get to sleep if they wanted to alike. The long bathroom lines are only shortened when sniffing, glossy-eyed, patrons are done with their business. This bar, however, gave me a night I will never forget. In 2005 a friend and I wandered in for a late night nightcap. Approximately 15 seconds after entering both my friend and I were "sucker-punched" without warning or instance. Granted this much may have not been the fault of the bar itself, but their actions that followed on their part was deplorable at best. As my friend and I bled from our faces profusely, the bouncer tried to force us out of the bar with the statement "you're bleeding on the floor." Additionally, he was very quick to clean it up, assumabley not for hygiene purposes as they are clearly not concerned with such manners. Additionally, the management did not even try to cooperate with the detective sent to investigate the crime. They simply had no recollection of anyone getting, the police showing up, or two patrons leaving in an ambulance. Well, after a bit of self financed reconstructive surgery I thought I would share with all the fine people in the cyber review world. Like I said things may have changed in the five years but it's probably not worth the risk to enter a bar that will glad take your money and than leave you out to die. read more
