Firstly, I am not a resident of Fall River, MA. I usually don't write reviews on food products. Secondly, few days ago I was at my local grocery store (Nob Hill Foods) in Alameda, CA. I was going to purchase the store brand soup in the deli section when I came across this new brand. There was a promo of BOGO. The price was not listed. The brand was Blount Clam Shack, all the way from the east coast to the west coast (Massachusetts to California) There were only two kinds of soup available - gumbo and New England clam chowder. Okay, why not go for the promo? It doesn't hurt to taste the soup. Drawback? The gumbo is high in sodium (2320 mg if one eats all 24 ounces [3 servings] of it at once). Thirdly, I had some of the gumbo soup with a piece of garlic French bread last night for dinner. The soup was delicious and tasty. This afternoon I had another serving of the soup for lunch. The seasonings must have settled in the soup because it tasted better as leftover. The clam chowder soup is even higher in sodium, so I will put it aside for a few days before eating it. Finally!? It's about time someone sold a delicious, creamy, homemade-tasting chowder, made available to the masses. Seriously, it's that good. And, it's not overloaded with potatoes. I no longer look forward to vacations to San Francisco for Fisherman's Wharf or a brick & mortar restaurant to enjoy restaurant-quality chowder. The only downfall? Word is out as it's hard to come by in my local Safeway. Lobster Bisque - $10.99 (24 oz.) Another winner. Creamy, slightly sweet and with notable shreds on lobster meat throughout. How much compensation is swallowing a glass shard worth? According to Blount's Family Kitchen's customer service rep. Savannah, only 3 $1.50 discount coupons, a coupon for 1 free product, & 2 ball caps (which they arbitrary substituted for an agreed to long sleeve sweatshirt with their logo it). Briefly, after multiple attempts to reinstate the agreed to sweatshirt, Savannah said none were available & she didn't think any would be available; after which she promptly said goodbye & hung up on me! Last Friday, 1/9/'26, I called their customer service, gave her my call-back No. so she could call me back if we get disconnected, & as I was providing her the "back story", she abruptly disconnected! I never got the call back. Calling their corporate office failed when they wouldn't answer. I challenge their president (& self-proclaimed "Chowderhead"): Todd Blount to try and make this right! Until then, I will pass the word on how I was treated & will dissuade anyone from buying any of their products! Lastly, I use to enjoy the simplicity of their soups/chowders as I am not a cook; but I will never again patronize their products! I just had some chicken noodle soup. Too many spices. All that I could taste were onions and pepper. There were no (zero) chuncks of chicken in the soup. Only some shredded pieces of chicken. Came here for lunch with a friend. Ordered the clambake chowder and a couple chouirco clam cakes. Service was good and quick. The clambake chowder... it was decent. Good chunks of meat and vegetables. But thinner and a bit underwhelming. However, the clam cakes were a major disappointment. It smells really good, like real good clam cake. However, when you bite into it, the only taste is flour. Doughy and bland. No actual clams or clam flavor. There are tiny bits of chourico, but you don't really get much flavor out of that either. Doesn't taste like there are any spices in it, not even salt. Everyone seems to loved this place, so maybe they just made a really shoddy batch of clam cakes. They also have a bunch of bulk soups and macaroni frozen in bags for sale on the cheap. Good stuff. Yummy! Seems like they make pasta and soups for chain restaurants in the area. So getting it from Blount is a better deal at less than half the price. read more

I have been buying Blount clam chowder for years and it eas excellent. We moved to NY 8 years ago, but always stopped at Blount in Fall River or Lee's in Westport to purchase 3 - 4 bags. Last nite opened a bag and this was not the clam chowder we use to rave about. It was terrible. Very thin, bland with few clams and potatoes. I won't waste my money on buying it again. read more

For the last decade I've been happily volunteering to drive my friends and family to Logan airport every time they travel, primarily so I can visit Legal Seafood in Terminal C and indulge in bowl of their delicious lobster bisque and a cold beer. I've voiced this to everyone I've driven to the airport. I love their lobster bisque! Just a few weeks ago, I was just dropping off a friend I've been giving rides to for years and they said... "I think Blount in Fall River makes their soups... why don't you just go there?" Someone I've been driving for YEARS and they just tell me now? Get back in the car - I'll kill you later, because right now, I need directions... The hour drive from Boston took me 19 minutes. Upon opening the door to the Clamshack/Company Store, I heard angels singing... and there was St. Sebastian (I know, he was a crab, best I could come up with...) fluttering above freezer. And sure enough, the rumor was true. They make the soups for a number of major brands, some of which are even branded as such, and they're available dirt cheap and in bulk! Two kinds of lobster bisque, several different clam chowders, that delicious cheddar and broccoli soup from Panera... it was all here. The ultimate soup store has been achieved. With my tongue stuck to the four pound bag of frozen bisque, I walked towards the counter and realized that this was a restaurant as well! Both of the ladies serving were extremely friendly, and my meal was made fresh to order and ready in under ten minutes. All the food seemed very reasonably priced, especially compared to all the "trendy" seafood joints. The soup bar looked like a great idea, with all you can eat soup (five or so to choose from, changing daily I'd imagine) for about five bucks... three if you add it on to an entree. I tried the clam strip roll, which came overflowing, with a side of fries, slaw and tartar sauce. The dining area seemed like a bit of an afterthought... which it probably was, seeing as this is essentially the factory outlet of every delicious restaurant soup you've ever craved. Overall, an incredibly solid cheap-eats seafood joint for takeout, and the top spot for take away soup - perhaps just not the place to bring a date expecting a fancy restaurant. Here's a great cheap eats mission. Your clues, should you decide to accept them, are simple enough - go to the bargain bin freezer and dig. It's a grab bag to be sure. You never really know in advance what's going to be in there---one day it's all full of turkey chili (no I wasn't that brave), the next day it's a mixed variety from classic chicken noodle, to tuscan white bean/chicken, to tomato bisque. Remember, these frozen bags of soup are there because they've already been in the deep freeze for about a year. Now these bags of soup want nothing more than to be eaten by you and friends. (PS - you don't have to tell everyone where this came from, just your good friends). We always stock up to keep a rotation on hand, excellent short notice meals whenever too many extra hungry teenagers decide to stay for dinner. read more

Wow! This place was exactly what I expected. Small but great greasy spoon (however, a more upscale look and feel). The clam chowder was excellent as we're the clam cakes. The kids had foot long hotdogs which were not only delicious but shockingly reasonably priced. I had a clam strip roll which I loved. My wife had the chicken noodle soup in a bread bowl which was also very good. If I lived here I would regularly stop by and probably gain some weight. This place is not a health food place but it is good food relatively quick with friendly service. You order at the counter but then they bring the food to your table. I've always loved the soup here....however I have to say that I am very disappointed in the actual restaurant. Until recently, they had an all you can eat soup bar for only $7.99. There's only so much soup even I can eat, but I loved the idea of trying all the different flavors. This was stopped for some reason and now you have to pay close to $5 for a single cup of soup. BTW, you can buy a huge bag of frozen soup there and take it home for $11-$13 a bag. The soup bar was a big draw for my family on a Friday night....but we are not likely to visit again due to the inflated prices. read more

I'm giving the Clam Shack a three because although their Clam Chowder is absolutely delicious, I feel like 5 bucks for the bowl is a little pricey. They seem to have pretty good deals, although The Soup Bar/Buffet should offer clam chowder and chicken noodle everyday. It's hit or miss with the soups at this bar and idk about you, but one bowl of soup is plenty good for me. I try to stay away from fried food so haven't had much of anything else there. I did however try their grilled chicken sandwich and when I requested a substitute for many things, there were no complaints. The grilled chicken turned out great, but they buttered my wheat bread, which I would have preferred not buttered. The fruit bowl was mediocre at best. All-in-all its good. I guess I expected better from my fish sandwich. It was nothing special. Sort of had the feeling that it was a frozen fish filet and not fresh. The roll seemed dry and day old to me too. Abner got the BLT fish sandwich and he liked it alot. He also got the all you can eat soup buffet. I tried a few of them. The chili was very good. I can't say that the soups did anything for me though. Sort of tasted canned to me, rather than homemade. I saw some people with clam cakes and those looked good though. Good Yelp reviews had me stop here for lunch today early in the afternoon. As a big chowder fan I have to say the clam chowder is one of the best I have ever had. Served in a large mug it was flavorful and loaded with clams. My only regret as a big fan of soup is that I didn't instead get the soup Buffett which had I believe 5 different soups and my lunch mate tried four of them and was very impressed. The only reason I'm not giving a five star rating was the lobster roll, which was very good and served timely but was very small for the $11.99 price tag. Basically served on a bun made for a small hot dog. The lobster was flavorful but not what I would expect in size for the price. Overall a great find and if your a soup fan will be in heaven. I just had lunch at the Fall River, MA "Clam Shack" and it was awesome!!! My friend had eaten there a few days prior to me going and suggested the "Fish Rueben" sandwich. This sandwich was delish as Rachel Ray says. The fish was a beautiful white haddock of good proportion topped with Swiss cheese and cole slaw. I'm telling you it was delicious. I never eat fish sandwiches but took my friends advice since she was adamant about how good the "Reuben" is. She was so right, I absolutely loved it. I am also thrilled that the hours of the store are from 10 am until 8pm, it allows me to stop in after work and grab something to go for dinner. The staff and prices are excellent. I will make this stop a "once a weeker" for me because I can get a dinner to go or soup for the freezer or even better those stuffed scallops that are scrumptious!!! read more

I actually went here twice. The first time was to pick up dinner based on the reviews they should have been open but their hours have changed they are not open 10-3 m-t and 10-8 f-sat. As it was my first visit I had to try their famous clam chowder, it was good not too thick (I'm personally not a fan of chowder that could be served on a plate) the chowder was full of clams but the flavor was a bit bland. I also tried their clam cakes and have to say they were some of the best that I have ever had they were full of clams it was great. You can get cases of the delish soup for $5.00! We keep it in the freezer and pull them out for a quick lunch or dinner. Went to the "Annual Year-End Soup Sale" recently and was so glad I did! Once the sale started the line moved smoothly. The female staff who assisted me was very helpful in describing the soups.
