Worked in Somerset today & knew I had to make a couple of Portuguese stops on my way home First stop -- @barceloscafe in Fall River! I grabbed a bifana sandwich, chicken croquette, stuffed quahog, sweet bread, & of course, a pastel de nata. Haven't made it through everything yet, but what I have tried was delicious! Before heading out, I swung by @portugalia_marketplace -- super clean, beautifully organized, & packed with amazing options from take-home goods to ready-to-eat bites. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

It's a small vacation to Portugal! Fantastic seafood, a shrine dedicated to salted cod, the best tinned fish beautifully displayed, wines, ports and other spirits, olive oil, charcuterie... oh my! Beautiful, clean and wonderful staff!!!

We made the trek to this large Portuguese marketplace and what a gem! They had a large wine and liquor section, cheeses, cookware, spices, dried goods, and prepared foods. They had a whole room of salted fish as well. There's a small cafe with coffee and sandwiches. We took home some Portuguese egg tarts which were so flakey and crispy with a creamy custard. Delicious! There's a whole lot section for tinned fish. We thoroughly enjoyed. Plenty of parking. Would check the hours before going as Sunday has shorter hours.

    Custard tarts are delicious!

This is a Portuguese marketplace. Parking is ok. They have a really good wine selection. Also, hot food available to buy. Fresh seafood. A lot of the stuff I find to be overpriced unfortunately. They do have a little cafe inside that you can buy coffee and sweets at. Everyone I've talked to there was friendly. They do have wine tastings once in a while too. Overall it's an ok place to get some specialty items but tough on the wallet.

Salt cod - there is a whole room!

Wow- so many things to look at! It felt like we were in Portugal. Everyone was so helpful. Great products, food and wine. We will be back.

Delicious deli prepared foods, helpful staff and a very nice atmosphere. We ate there and took more items home. Glad we visited Fall River.

What a cute shop! I wasn't sure if this would be more of a grocery store or a specialty food store, but it was somewhere in between. They have an amazing selection of Portuguese delicacies, including meats and cheeses and the staff is super knowledgeable. The selection of sardines is insane! I also loved the dry goods area, which had lots of dried fruits and nuts. This isn't the type of place you'd visit for your everyday grocery needs. I was hoping to find some more vegetables, but their selection is pretty small. A cool spot to check out if you're looking for something different!

We stopped off at Portugalia Marketplace to try some of their cooked food offerings to go, They also have some sort of cafe; however, I did not check out what they serve there. This place is usually packed, so that should tell you something! They have a marketplace, huge wine selection, and hot food to go. We started with the Portuguese soup, which was hot and delicious. These guys know their stuff! It tasted homemade! Soaked up the juice with a fresh made pop roll. This would be the perfect lunch just by itself! I went with the octopus plate, because it is impossible to find these days! It was served with potatoes, and was so tender and delicious. I am guessing it was some sort of wine based stew. My wife had the shrimp Mozambique, and I will say that it is the best that I have ever had! I would definitely have to order that the next time! This is a clean, fun marketplace. If you haven't checked it out yet, give them a try today!

Great experience between the wine and Porto tasting and the prepared foods for lunch. I stocked up on a variety of products. Store manager Colleen couldn't have been more helpful and made some great recommendations.

Great market that has a vast selection of all things Portuguese! Clean and helpful staff as well! Sardines, tuna, wine, seafood, pottery, gift items! Colorful market, authentic and reasonable! Stop in!

I absolutely love this place. They have a wide array of options as well as having super nice staff. They have everything from fresh bread to really fresh seafood, as well as escargot. They also have a little café area which has plenty of seating. I got a slice of their red velvet cake from there. That was absolutely delicious. I love this place for some specialty shopping.

Not impressed with this marketplace. One of our family friends is from Europe and told us this place is a must try and I see it all over social media, but it's not nearly as good as the hype. Luckily, there was a wine/liquor sampling. If it wasn't for this, it would have been a waste of time. The market is way smaller than I thought and the food selection is underwhelming. There should be way more pastries and other foods you can eat there. The only food I ended up getting was from the cafe in the corner. I bought a Slice of carrot cake for $5 but I have to say it was delicious! Very moist and the frosting was excellent. The espresso ($1.50) was too watery, much better overseas. Their wine selection was pretty good and there was a good amount of poor wines around $10. The pastel de nata's did not look appetizing and seemed dull in color. Most of the prices are just completely inflated. Hard to find items that are priced correctly.

Imagine a cheese store in a Hallmark Christmas village ... and there you have Wickford Cheese & Sundry. When you are buying a cheese which costs $50/lb. you want to taste it. No problems here! They have a lot of little cut samples of cheeses waiting for you to try. And if there is a cheese that doesn't have a sample ready, they'll gladly give you a piece to make up your mind. The selection is mind-boggling. Browsing through and tasting 9 different Goudas can make even the most fastidious cheese lover overwhelmed. Luckily, the owners are happy to make recommendations and bring you one step closer to cheese Xanadu. There are plenty of US, French, Italian and Spanish cheeses ... the only bummer about this place is that there are very few British cheeses to buy. Having lolived in the UK, I do tend to gravitate towards those. I think in the entire store they had maybe 2 - 3 British cheeses. Having said that, it's one of my favourite spots to visit and I usually walk away with a bag of interesting and fun picks for entertaining. You can ask them to pick out a perfect cheese plate for you and it's all set. They just ask how much you want and get it ready for you. They also have a few varieties of cured meats etc. for purchase and a couple to sample. Overall, this is a fun spot to visit and for cheese lovers, it will be an incredibly immersive and friendly experience. I won't knock Wholefoods because they actually have a great cheese section ... when staffed ... but this brings cheese tasting and bespoke experience to the next level. I very much encourage you to check this cute little shop out and will say that they also sell the best baguettes I've ever had outside of Paris.

I had some soft rind runny types and I wanted a sharp and salty hard type. The Gouda Roomano was soooo delicious. Really makes me drool thinking about it. I also got a sample of tête de moine. The taste is really sharp and bitter. I opted not to buy it (you need a special contraption that's only used for that type of cheese). But when I got home I was craving it. Maybe next time I'll ask them to cut me a few curls and I'd buy it that way. This time I chose cheeses based on looks. I got the Guinness cheddar. It has a contrasting dark coloring with light colored cheese bits. It's reminded me of stained glass. Next I got the Gjetost. It's a Norwegian cheese that looks and tastes like caramel. Mind blowing! The Barely Buzzed cheese is coated with an espresso lavender powder. The lavender is undetectable to me. I also got a Purple Haze (in the refrigerator). It's a goat milk cheese with lavender and fennel pollen. Sounds interesting. I haven't tried it yet. But I spent a good part of the hour just cutting off tiny bits of all of the other cheeses and savoring them slowly. The fig cake above the cheese display caught my attention and I bought a slice of that for my lactose intolerant hubby. I got about a 1/4 pound slice for $3.84. Worth it!!
