University bagel shop, lots of bagel options and schmear options. Lox bagel was good. I was in town for three eclipse, staff was overwhelmed. Iced mocha tasted like chocolate milk, they may have forgotten the espresso?

Pricey, but delicious ! They have so many different bagels and schmears to try out. I will definitely have to make another trip to try some different flavors !

Bloomington Bagel, you are what dreams are made of. One very serious complaint in Cincy - WE DON'T HAVE ANY HOME GROWN BAGEL SHOPS! (ok, one Marx). This is a crime against humanity. Bloomington Bagel is legit. These bagels are boiled, dense, and chewy just the way I like them! We opted for a bacon egg and cheese on an Asiago bagel. The bagel itself was CLUTCH. Great texture and cheese was an awesome addition. The egg left little to be desired -1. We also got an everything bagel and they let us pick two cream cheese flavors which was SO nice! We got the chive on one half and the garlic and herb on the other. Again - bagel was insanity. So, so good. The chive was not the best I've ever had, but the garlic and herb on the other hand was KILLER. It also had something spicy in it (I happen to love spicy) but I was surprised for people who don't that it wasn't listed as spicy. I will be dreaming of this spread. I really preferred the bagel + cream cheese over the sammie just because it really let the bagel be the star of the show. However they do have some other really creative sammie options if that's your thing. On one hand I wish this place was down the street from me, and on the other - I'm glad it's not because I would be here every. single. day. Pro tip: Check out the tables they had made from the curated pictures of fans around the world holding bagels: in the desert, underwater, during their children's BIRTH! It's pretty awesome to see a community rallying around a local biz like this and it was really heartfelt to see. You do you Bloomington Bagel!

Bloomington Bagel vs Gables is kind of a hot local debate, but I don't really have a preference and I like both of them for different reasons. I think the quality of the bagels here is a little better (this is the only place where they are made fresh) and there's more customization options for sandwiches, but the Gables bagels are a little bigger and the sandwich style is closer to NY/NJ delis. Lots of options to build you own sandwich here with many bagel and schmear flavours and different veggies. Because the style of bagel is thick/fluffy and not very wide around, sometimes the fillings do not want to stay in the sandwich. They have some delicious options though. I especially love the sushi-inspired Godzilla sandwich made with smoked salmon, miso schmear, and nori. The veggies are always fresh and generously piled on. As for non-bagel offerings, they have some other baked goods, like muffins and cookies. The blueberry muffin I tried was great. The cookies are usually good but kind of inconsistent. They're usually very soft but occasionally you will get a suboptimal crumbly one. The cookies are very sugary and huge. I have been known to eat an entire cookie at once but to be honest I usually regret it, so I recommend splitting one in half to share or save for later. They have coffee and espresso drinks, tea, and smoothies. Unfortunately no decaf coffee or espresso. I keep getting tea to go with my cookie or bagel but the selection is all very cheap brands. I like the chai though. Service is very good. They're on it so you don't have to wait too long even when it gets busy. Sometimes the place is packed and sometimes unexpectedly empty, and I can't figure out if there's any pattern to it.

I came in for lunch with a friend today, we were hoping to get some sandwiches, it was our first time in the shop. We asked a few questions and were made feel stupid for doing so. I understand this is a bagel shop, but they also sell sandwiches, so asking if they have mayo should be a standard question. Perhaps they're used to dealing with rude students, but, even then customer service should be at the forefront. Molly had an attitude from the beginning! She was rude and condescending. We will not be back to the shop! If you have a hankering for a bagel, or a bagel sandwich, Gables bagels is right up the road, and they are far superior!

On this particular outing a friend was eager to take my husband and I to his favorite coffee shop in his hometown of Bloomington, ID. Hopscotch Coffee & Kitchen sits right in along the Bloomington Rail Trail. The setting of the cafe is calm, inviting, and simple. A large porch welcomes you to the shop; it's obviously a local favorite. But rarely is it thought of as a lunch place, and it should be. I, for the first time ever, ordered a lunch item and was seriously impressed. Kids decided to grace us with their presence for lunch (both are in college) and while I'd like to think it was because they missed us, it's more likely they wanted free food. Whatever, it was good to see them and one wanted breakfast food and the other lunch, so the village deli was the choice. My wife ordered the BLT with hot chips, which she said is her go-to every time. She used to work down the street, so she's a regular. I am not a BLT fan, so didn't try it - even for Yelp I'm not touching a fully dressed BLT - but she loved it as usual. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. I usually get breakfast but I had a big breakfast earlier and was craving a sandwich. Glad I made the choice. It was amazing. Huge portion of chicken, plenty of ham and Swiss. If you've read my reviews, you know I had them keep the mustard away from it, so can't speak to that. The hot chips were great. They make their own potato chips, they are served hot/warm, and they might need a bit more salt, but better than french fries. Kid 1 (the one who wanted lunch) ordered breakfast. Ugh. Paxton's Potatoes and the breakfast croissant. Paxton's are basically hash brown/home fries with cheese, gravy and chives. You can add an egg (I suggest it) and the croissant is what you think it is - croissant and egg sandwich, with or without protein addition. Both are great. Kid2 had his usual power breakfast which is a drink plus two eggs, home fries, and one (plenty for two people) pancake. He gets his plain, I suggest banana and walnut additions. He's allergic to nuts so probably a bad idea, lest we need the epi pen. He's a growing boy and still gave me half the pancake if that gives you any idea of the size. Great service as usual. It was a week day, so not too crowded for lunch. Their motto is 'Eat and Get Out' but during lunch it's probably not an issue. On the weekends, the place is slammed full all day - expect a wait and them to rush you a bit. On Sunday it's best to beat the church crowd. TLDR: Eat here if you've visiting your kid at college, looking for a good lunch or great breakfast, and never ever order two pancakes.

I visited twice for a breakfast and a lunch. Lunch: I had a Black Russian sandwich and a pot of Emperor's Pride tea. The sandwich, which is a vegetarian version of a Reuben with roasted veggies instead of meat, was delicious. They really piled on the veggies. Some fell out of the sandwich, but I just ate them with the home fries. The home fries also were nicely seasoned. The tea was a little off. It's possible it was the tea itself that didn't taste how I expected, but it kind of tasted like I was getting the flavour of a different tea in the pot. Breakfast: Apple pancake and bouquet latte (seasonal special - lavender Ceylon tea latte with honey and rose syrup). The bouquet latte was wonderful and had this beautiful red swirl latte art. The pancake was nice and fluffy. One pancake is something like $5, but one is enough for a complete meal, maybe with a protein side if you're especially hungry.
