Omg yum!! My boyfriend grew up in this town and knows I love my sweets so he made a point to take me here. Even when he was growing up, this was the spot for the best donuts and from my experience, that hasn't changed!! They have there own parking lot so it was really easy to get in and out. No one was there when we arrived late morning but the woman working said that we had just missed the rush. It's pretty small inside and dated but that didn't matter to me at all. The woman working was really nice and loved how excited I was to be there lol. I got a donut with chocolate icing that had vanilla frosting. Not cream, not custard - frosting!! It was SOOO BOMB. So fresh and fluffy. I loved it and wish I could get these donuts in San Diego...it's probably one of the best donuts if not the best that I have ever had. It was really inexpensive too. After a Kroger shopping trip, we swung by Cresent Donut Shops ! I loved the yummy donut air the minute you walk through the door. The variety they have was also uh-mazing ! I opted for a Bavarian cream long John and I'm not sure what the other one is, but it's topped with nuts. They were both delicious ! The variety they have was huge; they even offer macarons ! I was pleased with my selections from this stand alone business just west of downtown. Even though it was getting later in the day, I picked out some Bismarks that were really good. I started with what looked like a Bismark, but was told it was a cinnamon roll topped with chocolate icing and chopped peanuts. I also grabbed a two more chocolate topped Bismarks: one with a sugar cream filling and the other with jelly. I didn't really taste any cinnamon, but I wasn't really interested in the cinnamon flavor anyway. I wanted the chocolate and peanuts. The donut itself had a nice texture with just a hint of chew to pair with the crunch from the peanuts. Great flavor and very enjoyable. What I really liked about the two filled pastries was that the filling was distributed throughout the donut, not just globbed into a pocket on one end. That shows some skill and care about more than just the appearance. Good flavors that were definitely sweet, but not over the top sugary. They do offer some beverage options, but I didn't explore those, so I can't comment on that. This is pretty much a "to go" business with pricing set up for those who want to get large numbers or single donuts/holes. I didn't see any croissant type, so if you like the light and flaky type pastry, this probably wouldn't be my first choice. But for well made and tasty standard donuts, bookmark this spot. Stopped by this morning around 9am and they still had a ton of options. I only got 3 different donuts to try out and I must say they are all delicious. The cinnamon twist tastes like a elephant ear at the fair... YUM! Yeast are always my fave though and so good. Very comparable to Long's bakery in Indianapolis, same concept with the order and go kinda deal and donuts are fresh and homemade. Employees were very friendly as well, I told her it was my first time and she pointed out all the jelly/cream filled donuts and told me what was what. Great doughnut shop!!! This was my first time trying this bakery out. I walked in and seen a wide variety of doughnuts. They all looked delicious and fresh. The place itself didn't seem very inviting and there was a sign that said no eating inside other then that the place was great. A small little donut shop on the outskirts of Bloomington. They have the basic yeast donuts, a few cake donuts, a few filled donuts, donut holes, 1 or 2 specialty donuts, coffee and milk. I ordered the chocolate iced yeast and blueberry cake donuts. I have never had a yummier blueberry cake donut. It was bursting with flavor! My friend ordered the oreo yeast donut (specialty) and said it tasted just like an oreo. I definitely recommend a visit. read more

Cresent Donut...September 2014 - 3 Stars: been by this just-off-the-road place a number of times and finally stopped. They bill themselves as 24/7 donuts but it is not quite that. They make their creations in the morning and sell through the day, but the picking gets limited toward days end. Now for the donuts... We arrived on a weekend morning - undoubtedly prime time. Their specialty seems to be the plain old glazed raised donut and you can see why. Some shops make their glazed raised a bit more doughy, but not Cresent. Theirs is very much like the old Krispy Kreme...very soft and airy and covered in sugar glaze. They were very good and light. The other offerings were ok, but unremarkable. The chocolate cake was nice, as was the blueberry cake. They had maybe a dozen different offerings, but just half-trays or less of each. The glazed raised on the other hand were in stacked trays...far and away their biggest seller. We will be back for more of those glazed raised delights. read more

I will be completely honest and say that I read the reviews, and they were NOT favorable. Folks were hard on the customer service, but loved the taste. So with that in mind, I decided to take a chance. I walked in the door with LOW expectations, but walked out a fan. The staff greeted me, helped guide me through my selections, and even talked me into getting more than what I came in for. (lol) I actually mentioned the reviews, and the owner commented that he changed staff so that his customer service COULD improve. And I was impressed that he valued the opinion of the customer. Now... on to the donuts. I got 1 dozen plain, 1 dozen mix of everything, and 2 dozen donut holes to take in to work .... for no reason. And everything was gone within 20 minutes! I do prefer my donuts to "melt in my mouth", but these were still soft and very tasty. I will definitely stop in again. read more

On a snowy slushy day in March, pulled in the driveway in the front so my wife did not have to step in the slush and get wet in the snow. They refused my wife service unless I pulled into the lot across driveway. There were no other cars and we made sure we were not blocking or inconveniencing anyone. Clearly the shop keeper with a beard had issues and went on some rant that if this were Chicago I would have been ticketed and we should have been... really? Firstly this is not Chicago and secondly this was in their parking lot with no cars. If you lor is designed poorly, redesign it and not put it on your customers. So it looks like they don't need our business nor have the basic knowledge of customer service. I'll be taking my business somewhere else. Clearly there are customer service issues here in the past after reading reviews... too bad! Donuts holes were too sweet and just sugary. Not impressed. read more

I've been a customer of Cresent for years. They recently changed some things about he business, but the quality has stayed the same. I've never been disappointed with donuts from this place, even when I've gone at crazy hours in the morning. Now the staff has a tendency to be a bit stern, but it's all for good reason. They don't want customers on their cel phones slowing down orders or being difficult. Honestly, they want to serve customers the best they can. Unfortunately the staff leaves you feeling worthless and borderline suicidal for daring to order something from them and navigate your automobile through their parking lot (2 essentials for them to stay in business). The donuts are delicious, both glazed and cake. I particularly liked the blueberry and (seasonal) pumpkin cake donuts. I think this is where they shine. You can get a dozen for under $10. All of our donuts tasted fresh and good, and since we showed up fairly early on a Saturday morning the selection was great. I don't know why they spell their name the way they do, but it's been around in Btown as long as I can remember. It's truly a hole in the wall, and a Bloomington classic for sure. And while their staff is reputed to be rude, I walked in on a busy morning and was treated with a smile and great service. Crescent Donut was a staple of my college experience. My friends and I would embark on late night caving trips between the hours of about 10:30 and 1:30am, emerge from the caves dripping with water and mud, towel off, and zip on over to Cresent Donut at about 2 in the morning for freshly baked donuts with milk. Those were some of my fondest moments. The owners, to their credit, never even batted an eye when we would roll into their store near midnight, covered in mud. The service is friendly and good. The donuts are freshly made all day, and Cresent just has that small-town feel that you can't replicate at a place like Jack's or Square. read more
