Strawberry shortcake cyclone. One of the best ice creams I've had in a long time!!
    Kara M.

Summer is coming and if you want ice cream and your close to Bloomington go here! This is a mom and pop establishment that has a huge menu! They had so many things that looked good! The strawberry shortcake ice cream I ordered was a 10 out of 10!! The taco burger also delicious! It's located right next to a nice looking putt putt course. You could walk to it. This place would hit the spot on hot days!

Cookie Monster slightly melting cause it's a million degrees tonight! I love it!

A childhood favorite! My favorite has to be Cookie Monster! They also have a cute little shelter to sit at to eat. Service is good. It does get really busy on summer nights.

Visited here for the first time today and will surely be back. Jiffy Treets' (that's the spelling they use) ice cream treats are awesome -- including frozen yogurt, vegan and "de-light" flavors for the dietarily (a word?) conscious. Their homemade ice cream is offered in a huge variety of delicious-sounding flavors. (Hubby had Peach Brandy, which he called "refreshing," especially its peach chunks. 92yo Mom had Mocha Almond Fudge, which was creamy, rich and chocolatey.) There are several other frozen treats available, too; Strawberry Shortcake, "Cyclones," sodas, smoothies, etc. My flavor of choice was the fat-free, sugar-free vanilla frozen yogurt. It was SO creamy and rich that I came close to doubting the healthy claim. But don't reserve your trip to Jiffy Treets for the next time you want something frozen. This place has great food! Our choices included chicken breast strips, fries, a foot-long hot dog and the garden salad ... all very good! Another customer told us he and his Mrs. come there for the Coney Dogs. Finally, the service is quick and eager to please, and all COVID cleanliness standards are apparently strictly practiced. When you're in Ellettsville or Bloomington, you simply must go to JT! (There's a Bedford location, too.)

Okay, this place has a Bloomington address, but know that it is in the Ellettsville town limits. Located along SR 46, the drive in ice cream shop is surrounded by parking and is located next to a miniature golf business. Surprisingly, the walk up window was available even in January, so I got out of my car and walked passed the outdoor seating (they have a pergola over some of the seats.) Although they offer some lunch options, I was here for ice cream. They have around 40 flavors to choose from. I settled on a Black Raspberry Truffle which has just a bit of chocolate in it. I ordered a medium dish and found the ice cream more creamy in texture than I had at their other location (weird, right?) There wasn't anything unique about this location, but if you are in the area and want ice cream options, support this local business instead of one of those nationwide businesses. Review #3491

This is the second time we have devoured their delicious shakes. This is one of the 90 degree Summer days when you need something to cool you off. The drive through window had a line as long as Starbucks with two lanes. They have homemade ice cream, sherbet, yogurt, etc. Cones, shakes, cyclones...your heart desire. They have other food also. But on a ninety plus degree day all you want is some form of ice cream cold. The staff was great reminding of the walk up windows of my youth. If you need your vegetables with your ice cream, you can find them on the side of the complex in a pickup truck.

Hot days call for a sweet summer treat and might I say this place has a variety. Right off the main road Jiffy Treet West has around 20 ice cream flavors to choose from aside from the soft serve options and mix in options. While this is a plus I was very disappointed in the Cookie Monster flavor. It was not at all what I expected when getting Cookie Monster. It had an odd mint taste too it and would have been better suited under a better name. Additionally the Hawaiian Luau Sunday was made with caned fruit and didn't have the best flavor combination as it was paired with a sorbet and not ice cream. The corn dog I ordered was the same as one you'd get from the frozen section of a Walmart or other grocery store. While the tables surrounding the building weren't clean I will say the staff was friendly. Overall I wouldn't wait in the long line to order again.

Peach Cobbler Cyclone made with Persimmon Soft-serve

ICE CREAM!!!! I stopped by here after a concert, happy to see that this place was still open after 9pm in October. A friend informed me that they had a soft-serve persimmon ice cream for Fall, which they had advertised on a sign outside of the stand. I decided to get a Peach Cobbler Cyclone (equivalent to a Blizzard) made with the persimmon soft-serve. IT WAS AMAZING! I ordered a small size, but was given a 16-20oz cup overflowing with ice-cream. (See picture.) I thought to myself, "Is this really a small?" These people don't hold back with how much ice cream they give you. I had asked for a sample of the pumpkin pie ice cream and was given a huge 2-bite size of ice cream instead of those little miniature-size spoons you get at other establishments. I was impressed with the extensive selection of flavors of ice-cream. (Again, persimmon! Where else can you get that flavor?) I will be coming back to try all of them! ;)

They also have paletas (Mexican popsicles), aguas frescas, flavoured cappuccino, crepes, tortas and more sweet and savoury Mexican snacks. I've had tons of gourmet ice cream, and this was up there with the best of them. I wanted to try one of the less common Mexican flavours but lots sounded good, and they let me sample a few. I sampled the ron con pasas/eggnog with raisins and queso fresco, and both were really good but I decided to get a scoop of queso fresco. I expected it to be like a cheesecake flavour but it was a little different in a way that's hard to put my finger on, so I can only advise you give it a try if you're curious. Besides the flavour being very interesting, the ice cream itself was fantastically creamy. Their homemade waffle cone was also very good. I also got esquites and horchata while I was there. The esquites cup was pretty good but didn't particularly stand out to me. I would advise mixing it a little before eating so you're not getting spoonfuls of mayo off the top with the first few bites. The horchata was great - smooth flavour with lots of cinnamon. The shop is very nicely decorated. There are a few tables and even a swing inside and outside. It looked clean inside. The people were very nice! I would love to come back even though it's across town! I would be interested in trying out their other desserts but it'll be hard to pass up on that ice cream.

The Market goes from Spring to Fall and always includes several of the most popular food trucks in Central Indiana but also a few relative newbies. I believe that Sweet Valley is relatively new to this particular market. However, they've been bringing their homemade ice cream to Central Indiana markets for a while. If I were to give just an outright review, I have to confess that it would likely be a star lower. However, I'm curving this one a bit because Thursday's Statehouse Market was a really horrible weather day, at least initially, and everyone was just struggling to maintain their trucks in a fairly significant rain storm. So, Sweet Valley gets an extra star for hanging in there. If you haven't guessed, Sweet Valley is an ice cream "food truck." They serve up homemade ice cream, sorbet, floats, and drinks They typically have a handful of ice cream flavors, a couple sorbet flavors, and some float options with them. They serve everything, typically in 4-4.5 ounce dishes and it looks like the floats are in a more traditional cup. On this first visit, I ordered the Oreo Sorbet. It came in a dish with a lid and they included a plastic spoon. The sorbet had a chocolate type appearance. It was just a little too iced over for my liking - a result, of course, of being transported. I have to be honest and say I didn't particularly care for it and the plastic spoon struggled a bit with it. Again, it was just a bit too frozen. I probably needed to let it sit for a bit and maybe enjoy it back at my desk. I actually wondered if I hadn't gotten actual chocolate ice cream because I didn't really taste much in the way of Oreo. As I'm hoping Sweet Valley will return, I plan to try the traditional ice cream next time and may even go for a float. Prices are reasonable. I paid 4 bucks. The folks in the truck were friendly - they had to be frustrated on the weird weather day. It had been really a hard, windy rain. It didn't last a long time, but it super impacted attendance. Overall, I'm rating more on potential than actual experience here. I'll adjust as needed, or if needed, in the future after a couple more visits. For now, their brightly colored truck is a welcome vision at Statehouse Market and I look forward to trying different flavors in the future. The company is Bloomington, Indiana-based and made at One World Commissary. The truck was started by the Brown-Hill family and is a locally owned, family owned operation.

Hopefully this truck continues to come back because their ice cream is really good. I got the Scoop Scoop Scoop which is their pre-packaged cup of 3 ice creams (chocolate, sweet cream, vanilla) separated by layers of crushed Oreos. Delicious. Also a great deal ($6) compared to their hand-dipped stuff ($4 or $5 a scoop).

Wow! The Chocolate Moose Moved!…read more Who knew? Not me that's for sure! What can I say is that I was desperate for Ice Cream. And not just 'any' Ice Cream' either. But I wanted the ice cream only 'the moose' has. It was one of those moments after 10 pm at night, and I was without wheels, wondering how I was gonna get a little satisfaction for this craving I seem only to have late at night while having no transportation. Ironic, ( kinda like my nose itching every time I get my hands in dishwater). Perhaps you can relate... maybe not. Anyway I am a 'local' here in Bloomington, which is to say I've lived here almost all my life, ( except for those 'lost years' in Indy.... wherever they went.), Where DID they go? Anyway, I sure can remember the Chocolate Moose, as I'm sure many can, where it once stood in its original location at 401 S Walnut Street, in a tiny little A-frame building, which was actually located in a rather inconvenient spot if you think about it, although I doubt that ever affected it's business negatively. To be honest I had thought the Chocolate Moose just went out of business and closed down. This was just what I gathered when I pulled up with my Granddaughter to get Ice Cream as we had done many times before and the place was just... gone... like it never even existed. Was I in the wrong place? I felt lost, betrayed even. , Why didn't anyone tell me? Am I the only one that didn't know they didn't shut down, but simply relocated? And why did no one find this information newsworthy or important enough to mention? this was a part of our lives, for Chrissakes! My kids and I, trips with their gramma when she was still with us, rest her soul... More than that, it's a pice of history, a place of nostalgia, of good memories... how could this have happened ? Well, my friends, as it turns out, 'The Moose' is very much still in business, yeah, it just relocated to a bigger, trendier, commercial space, one of the new things here in Bloomington, new apartments buildings with retail space below , and they are EVERYWHERE! New buildings that is. It bears mentioning I'm not exactly happy about that, but change happens, and they tell me 'change is good', but I've not found any personal evidence of that as yet, I'm not exactly comfortable with 'change', but whatever. I had to do this thing, so I contacted the 'delivery app' people and placed my order, I had to spend $20 to get it delivered so I made sure it was worth it and started it off with one of my personal favorites, the lemon custard, it's quite 'yellow'! And although yellow is not one of my favorite colors, LEMON is one of my favorite flavors, at least as far as Desserts are concerned. It tasted the same as I remember, and I couldn't help wonder why they didn't just keep the old location and 'expand'? But I'm like that, very curious and always wanting answers to random questions no one else concerns themselves with. This could explain the passion I have for writing, for me it's like a 'feeling validator', works better than Therapy in my opinion, but in my opinion, Ice Cream IS THERAPY! And it saves money and is yummy, what is there not to feel good about? But I didn't stop at the Lemon Custard, I decided to also try their 'Latte'. Save your money for Starbucks overpriced, selection, just as good but... well.. overpriced at $6 for a large. So feeling pretty confident I would probably want more ice cream from the moose before I would be getting sufficient transportation, I also added an ever popular 'Banana Split' to my order, struggling with the options of both 'home made' and 'soft serve' but keep in mind you are limited on the 'soft serve' somewhat. There are three (3) choices; chocolate, vanilla, and 'twist'. I opted for a custom concoction which consisted of strawberry, chocolate, and Grasshopper, ( think mint Oreo). For toppings I chose black raspberry, hot fudge, and marshmallow, I think the whip cream and nuts were extra, jus sayin. Keep in mind they also offer 'vegan' ice cream. I'm not sure what this is but I'm guessing it's for those of us that are lactose intolerant, like me. However, this only affects me sometimes so I admit I totally ignore it. I risk it much more than I should, Good thing on this particular occasion my system found my choices agreeable.
