We hosted my parents' 50th anniversary party this weekend and one of my mom's favorite memories from her wedding was my grandpa passing out donuts strung on a cane. I decided to recreate that with Square Donuts donuts, because they're my favorite. My family never had them before and everyone kept raving about the donuts. The kids went back for 2nds (and 3rds). I brought 3 dozen and I was worried I'd be going home with a bunch of them because we also had a massive cake and didn't think many people would want that much dessert. Those donuts went FAST! I even saw people poking around the boxes in the kitchen looking for more. I feel bad for letting the kids have so many but I didn't think the adults would be that interested. Now my kids have a taste for these donuts so I'll have to keep going back and buying them. Keep up the excellence! My family appreciated it!

Meh. I went to Square Donuts due the rating on Yelp. Appearance: This restaurant is extremely clean and free of culture. And the server was extremely nice and appeared well groomed. The restroom is spacious and clean. Doughnuts: Let me just say I travel the country for my occupation and have a lot of Donut Shops under my belt. I'm extremely picky when it comes to what I expect in a doughnut. I ordered the maple with cream and the chocolate with custard. I'm sad to report I was not impressed. The maple glaze was overly sweet and the cream was too sweet. I ended up squeezing it out and throwing it away. The texture of the doughnut itself was very good though. The second one, the chocolate with custard just downright hurt my feelings. The custard was not custard but instead Jello filling. Just no. The price was $1 a doughnut - not bad.

Located on the corner with inside dining, outside tables with corn hole, and free 15 m and 2hr parking in front. They have several jelly filled donuts including blueberry, raspberry and lemon, iced, yeast and cinnamon roll donuts, as well as donut holes and drinks. Very large dining area inside with restrooms. Its about $10 for a dozen.

I liked the clean, spacious area with lots of seating for this donut shop franchise (based out of Terre Haute). The guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful too. And even though the yeast donuts have been selected the best in Indy for the last two years (per their website), I'm not a yeast fan so I was a bit disappointed. By the time I got there, many of the trays were emptied. None were labeled either, so I asked about the options. I decided to go with a cruller (glazed) and a fritter (also glazed, but without any fruit filling like apple.) Although the texture and freshness were fine, I found the glaze to be so sweet and sugary that it overwhelmed the donut flavor. (That's why I prefer Bismarks to yeast.) My wife, who likes yeast donuts, liked them better than I did, but she found them too sweet as well. The place has a drive through that you can enter via Walnut. They have parking behind the building there too. Review #3658

    A classic glazed donut. Perfection.

I'm a glazed donut gal. You know, the type that Krispy Kreme is so well-known for. The type that is fried, but not over-fried, fluffy but still flavorful. Donuts are about balance while making it seem effortless, and few places achieve that balance. I actually haven't BEEN to the Square Donuts myself. My roommate was kind enough to pick up a dozen as a pre-finals-week 'good luck!' (have I mentioned I lived with amazing people) and, well, I was left stunned (and pleasantly so). While she got me a variety, I quickly settled on the glazed as my donut of choice, and it's no surprise why. Outside of the differing shape, this is the closest I've come to a good quality, Krispy Kreme glazed donut. It fills you with the warmth of a good hug from a friend without suffocating you and sure that might sound complicated but honestly, it's the simplest of things.

Square donuts is my favorite place to get donuts in Bloomington! The cinnamon roll donut is the BEST! The other locations in Bloomington don't have it, so I always go to the N Walnut location. The apple fritter is my second favorite and my husband loves their cake donuts. I haven't had a donut I didn't like. We normally buy a box and then munch on them for a couple of days. I recommend heating them up in the microwave for 10 seconds on the second/third day and it tastes just as good as the first day.

Be like a square donut, be different. The name alone and the need for a coffee and the loo brought me in. Good donuts, coffee and a clean bathroom can be had at SD. Unlike a lot of the current donut bars you can still get the basics at square donuts they're just square. This would be a cheap Tinder date spot. They have corn hole so in the event the date isn't a hit after a round of corn hole and a donut you can be on your way. And boys, girls like donuts and we like boys who tell us,it's okay have a donut.

Anyway, it is a little out of the way. It's walkable from downtown but not really in the downtown core. Pretty quiet when I was there, but the atmosphere felt approachable. Some of the chairs were like school desk chairs (adult-sized, of course) that I haven't seen since I was in primary school which was kind of funny. The guy at the counter was cheerful and friendly. They looked like they had run out of some of the hot savory items by Saturday mid-afternoon, but there was still a wide variety of sweets. I believe the current owners are Indian, and you see some of those flavours featured. I got: Samosa handpie: Good, not mind-blowing, but good. Nice flavours. If you like a flaky crust, this is not it, but I liked the rustic pastry crust. Pistachio cardamom donut: Loved it. Before I moved to Bloomington, there were a few bakeries that offered vegan-GF cake donuts that I loved, and this was the first thing I've gotten here that reminded me of that. Pleasant texture and strong cardamom flavour, not too sweet. I think these are baked donuts, so they're a little different from regular fried donuts, but in a good way IMO. Rose dream latte: Milk with rose syrup topped with coconut whip and nuts, no espresso. Tasted great, but more of a dessert drink than I was expecting. The coconut whip was quite thick. The concept could probably use some refinement, because the whip was too thick and rigid to drink without a straw, but the nut pieces were too big to go through a straw, and so I couldn't figure out the best way to drink it. From what I understand, there are some longtime fans of this place who feel like the quality has dropped since the most recent change in ownership, but as someone who had never been here before, I really had a good experience. I get why people would be upset when something changes, but if you are considering trying this place for the first time, I wouldn't be too put off by the negativity around the change in ownership. There's no other place specialized in vegan baking in Bloomington, so I think it's good to support what they are continuing to do here, and even though I am partial to vegan food I wouldn't say that if it wasn't also GOOD. They also had some refreshingly unique options for baked goods.

Bloomington Bagel vs Gables is kind of a hot local debate, but I don't really have a preference and I like both of them for different reasons. I think the quality of the bagels here is a little better (this is the only place where they are made fresh) and there's more customization options for sandwiches, but the Gables bagels are a little bigger and the sandwich style is closer to NY/NJ delis. Lots of options to build you own sandwich here with many bagel and schmear flavours and different veggies. Because the style of bagel is thick/fluffy and not very wide around, sometimes the fillings do not want to stay in the sandwich. They have some delicious options though. I especially love the sushi-inspired Godzilla sandwich made with smoked salmon, miso schmear, and nori. The veggies are always fresh and generously piled on. As for non-bagel offerings, they have some other baked goods, like muffins and cookies. The blueberry muffin I tried was great. The cookies are usually good but kind of inconsistent. They're usually very soft but occasionally you will get a suboptimal crumbly one. The cookies are very sugary and huge. I have been known to eat an entire cookie at once but to be honest I usually regret it, so I recommend splitting one in half to share or save for later. They have coffee and espresso drinks, tea, and smoothies. Unfortunately no decaf coffee or espresso. I keep getting tea to go with my cookie or bagel but the selection is all very cheap brands. I like the chai though. Service is very good. They're on it so you don't have to wait too long even when it gets busy. Sometimes the place is packed and sometimes unexpectedly empty, and I can't figure out if there's any pattern to it.

I was too slow to get photos of everyone's food, plus I didn't want to embarrass my daughter who might have stabbed me with her fork. Wife had the one-egg breakfast. Traditional egg and hash browns and she chose toast (think pancakes were an option, and that would have been my preference) while I ordered the country lady. Country lady was a country friend steak, eggs, biscuit, hash browns and sausage gravy. Delish. Love that combination, and it's nice to have an option so I don't have to piece it together somehow. Kitchen staff must have been upgraded since my last visit because it was crazy fast. Check was divided accurately, and we were out the door in less than an hour. They didn't rush us, but it was obvious they wanted to turn tables over fast since the line was building. Definite repeat.
