This review is for carryout catering order. I never stepped foot in the building. I enjoyed Bloomington Bagels at the 2019 Pro Swim in the Councilman-Billingsley pool. They were brought in for hospitality. I tried them on two occasions over the weekend Swim Meet and found them good, not great. Two varieties seemed overly dry to me. I do like there over size plastic knives to spread cream cheese. Mini bagels was new to me. Locals say this is as good as it gets with bagels get in Bloomington. They probably could use other options.

The branch office of the bagel shop is open and ready for business. Same MO as downtown...come to the door half closed and open. Purchase 13 delightful bagels and devour them at your right time.

DELICIOUS BBC BAGEL SANDWICH! I got the lox.

I love BBC! I'm surprised the locations are all rated highly except for this one. In some ways, this location is even better than the two downtown. If none other, than the lesser amounts of traffic! Locals can actually park their car right in front (it is located in a strip mall) and run in for a bagel. The shop only seats about 20 folks on tables meant for 2-4 + a small couch. There's plenty of local art being featured and the standard BBC tables full of photos of people traveling with their bagels. Folks are always friendly here. If you're looking for a BBC and want simple parking, this is your spot!

Egg patty, dry/previously frozen bagel with microwaved sausage

I was in the mood for a bagel sandwich after hitting a fantastic bagel spot in Louisville, KY. My brother recommended Bloomington Bagel Company so I thought I would give it a shot. The menu is extensive and accommodating. However, the ingredients were not fresh. The worker pulled out a yellow disc - when I inquired she informed me it was an "egg patty." What's an egg patty? I would like a real egg (you know, with the white and a yolk) on my $7 sandwich. The cheese selection was excellent and cheese was cheese. (Win.) The sausage was another microwaved patty; but a quick set in a skillet to brown it would not have hurt either. The worker informed me that the shmear was not homemade but purchased elsewhere. And an additional charge. In my opinion; the bagels tasted like they had been previously frozen. May be they made them at one time, froze them and now serving them? The bagel was crispy on the outside and dry on the inside. I was expecting soft and chewy. After a sad bagel sandwich; it turned out the espresso machine was broken. The worker informed me it had been broken for quite a while. How does a breakfast place not having a working coffee machine?

Bloomington Bagel vs Gables is kind of a hot local debate, but I don't really have a preference and I like both of them for different reasons. I think the quality of the bagels here is a little better (this is the only place where they are made fresh) and there's more customization options for sandwiches, but the Gables bagels are a little bigger and the sandwich style is closer to NY/NJ delis. Lots of options to build you own sandwich here with many bagel and schmear flavours and different veggies. Because the style of bagel is thick/fluffy and not very wide around, sometimes the fillings do not want to stay in the sandwich. They have some delicious options though. I especially love the sushi-inspired Godzilla sandwich made with smoked salmon, miso schmear, and nori. The veggies are always fresh and generously piled on. As for non-bagel offerings, they have some other baked goods, like muffins and cookies. The blueberry muffin I tried was great. The cookies are usually good but kind of inconsistent. They're usually very soft but occasionally you will get a suboptimal crumbly one. The cookies are very sugary and huge. I have been known to eat an entire cookie at once but to be honest I usually regret it, so I recommend splitting one in half to share or save for later. They have coffee and espresso drinks, tea, and smoothies. Unfortunately no decaf coffee or espresso. I keep getting tea to go with my cookie or bagel but the selection is all very cheap brands. I like the chai though. Service is very good. They're on it so you don't have to wait too long even when it gets busy. Sometimes the place is packed and sometimes unexpectedly empty, and I can't figure out if there's any pattern to it.

Perhaps they're used to dealing with rude students, but, even then customer service should be at the forefront. Molly had an attitude from the beginning! She was rude and condescending. We will not be back to the shop! If you have a hankering for a bagel, or a bagel sandwich, Gables bagels is right up the road, and they are far superior!

But rarely is it thought of as a lunch place, and it should be. I, for the first time ever, ordered a lunch item and was seriously impressed. Kids decided to grace us with their presence for lunch (both are in college) and while I'd like to think it was because they missed us, it's more likely they wanted free food. Whatever, it was good to see them and one wanted breakfast food and the other lunch, so the village deli was the choice. My wife ordered the BLT with hot chips, which she said is her go-to every time. She used to work down the street, so she's a regular. I am not a BLT fan, so didn't try it - even for Yelp I'm not touching a fully dressed BLT - but she loved it as usual. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. I usually get breakfast but I had a big breakfast earlier and was craving a sandwich. Glad I made the choice. It was amazing. Huge portion of chicken, plenty of ham and Swiss. If you've read my reviews, you know I had them keep the mustard away from it, so can't speak to that. The hot chips were great. They make their own potato chips, they are served hot/warm, and they might need a bit more salt, but better than french fries. Kid 1 (the one who wanted lunch) ordered breakfast. Ugh. Paxton's Potatoes and the breakfast croissant. Paxton's are basically hash brown/home fries with cheese, gravy and chives. You can add an egg (I suggest it) and the croissant is what you think it is - croissant and egg sandwich, with or without protein addition. Both are great. Kid2 had his usual power breakfast which is a drink plus two eggs, home fries, and one (plenty for two people) pancake. He gets his plain, I suggest banana and walnut additions. He's allergic to nuts so probably a bad idea, lest we need the epi pen. He's a growing boy and still gave me half the pancake if that gives you any idea of the size. Great service as usual. It was a week day, so not too crowded for lunch. Their motto is 'Eat and Get Out' but during lunch it's probably not an issue. On the weekends, the place is slammed full all day - expect a wait and them to rush you a bit. On Sunday it's best to beat the church crowd. TLDR: Eat here if you've visiting your kid at college, looking for a good lunch or great breakfast, and never ever order two pancakes.

The sandwich, which is a vegetarian version of a Reuben with roasted veggies instead of meat, was delicious. They really piled on the veggies. Some fell out of the sandwich, but I just ate them with the home fries. The home fries also were nicely seasoned. The tea was a little off. It's possible it was the tea itself that didn't taste how I expected, but it kind of tasted like I was getting the flavour of a different tea in the pot. Breakfast: Apple pancake and bouquet latte (seasonal special - lavender Ceylon tea latte with honey and rose syrup). The bouquet latte was wonderful and had this beautiful red swirl latte art.
