Not to be dramatic but I literally dream about this place. Today I got the hot mess. Which I chose the pretzel bagel, garlic and herb smear, cheddar cheese, spinach, and capers. It is absolutely delicious. The pretzel bagel is great! A little chewier than a traditional bagel, but as to be expected. This review is for carryout catering order. I never stepped foot in the building. I enjoyed Bloomington Bagels at the 2019 Pro Swim in the Councilman-Billingsley pool. They were brought in for hospitality. I tried them on two occasions over the weekend Swim Meet and found them good, not great. Two varieties seemed overly dry to me. I do like there over size plastic knives to spread cream cheese. Mini bagels was new to me. Locals say this is as good as it gets with bagels get in Bloomington. This place has gone way downhill. I had a Supernova and a water (they no longer serve water except for bottles) and my total was somewhere around $15. The bagel was barely toasted, it wasn't cut all the way through (which made it a mess to eat), and the lox was gritty and not appetizing. This place probably stays open on selling bagels and schmears to college kids, so my review probably won't affect business. But I want the place to do better: we need good bagel delis here. read more

I love BBC! I'm surprised the locations are all rated highly except for this one. In some ways, this location is even better than the two downtown. If none other, than the lesser amounts of traffic! Locals can actually park their car right in front (it is located in a strip mall) and run in for a bagel. The shop only seats about 20 folks on tables meant for 2-4 + a small couch. There's plenty of local art being featured and the standard BBC tables full of photos of people traveling with their bagels. Folks are always friendly here. If you're looking for a BBC and want simple parking, this is your spot! read more

Having just returned from NYC, I was craving a bagel. Granted I had flexible or somewhat low expectations to get the same type of bagel, cream cheese and lox as in NY, but geez....I could barely muster one star here. Service- friendly Cleanliness- adequate Bagel was cut at such a weird angle. One part was paper thin on the side and too thick on the other. There was such a small "schmear"of cream cheese that it melted into the bagel after being applied straight out of the toaster. I couldn't taste it! The lox were a bit on the slippery or oily side and I had to remove a tiny bone from my mouth. After spending $18 on lunch, I left highly disappointed! Ugh! read more

I was in the mood for a bagel sandwich after hitting a fantastic bagel spot in Louisville, KY. My brother recommended Bloomington Bagel Company so I thought I would give it a shot. The menu is extensive and accommodating. However, the ingredients were not fresh. The worker pulled out a yellow disc - when I inquired she informed me it was an "egg patty." What's an egg patty? I would like a real egg (you know, with the white and a yolk) on my $7 sandwich. The cheese selection was excellent and cheese was cheese. (Win.) The sausage was another microwaved patty; but a quick set in a skillet to brown it would not have hurt either. The worker informed me that the shmear was not homemade but purchased elsewhere. And an additional charge. In my opinion; the bagels tasted like they had been previously frozen. May be they made them at one time, froze them and now serving them? The bagel was crispy on the outside and dry on the inside. I was expecting soft and chewy. After a sad bagel sandwich; it turned out the espresso machine was broken. Delicious bagels! I recently went to BBC for breakfast while visiting Bloomington. They offer a large variety of bagels, schmears, salads, pastries, breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches, oatmeal, soup and coffee. I tried the egg, cheese and bacon breakfast sandwich ($6.45). It was warm and delicious. The bagel itself was soft and chewy, and it fought back a little when chewing it (like any good bagel should). BBC's location is very convenient with plenty of parking right in front of the storefront. BBC's interior was simple. There was some interesting art for sale on the walls and be sure to look at the pictures on the dining tables. My only compliant is that they were all out of bagel dogs the day I was there, but still I give it 5 stars. Next time I'm in Bloomington, I'll be stopping in at the BBC. read more

I really like the other locations bit, this one falls short with the amount of bagel floors they have available and with their customer service. They were low on almost every flavor of bagel and one of the workers didn't know what flavors of schmear they offered. They were quick with checkout and offered to slice and toast the bagels. They were unaware of how much bagels would be unless I bought a full bakers dozen. They were hesitant to even sell me less than 13 bagels. I would suggest visiting their several other locations instead. read more

I only started going to BBC near the end of my senior year at IU and found out that I had been missing out on some delicious bagels and schmears for years. BBC has really tasty bagels, although not the best I've ever had, but what really sets them apart is the variety and quality of schmears (cream cheese). I really love the artichoke gouda and sundried tomato, so I just get both and enjoy them together. They also have really good coffee at BBC (love the hazelnut flavor). read more

Taking Orders, making the order and then running the register. There are usually 2-3 people waiting on the sidewalk to be helped. This place is decent...sometimes. Their biggest issue is consistency. You'll go there one day and you'll get a well toasted bagel with the right amount of schmear, then you'll go the next day and get a cold bagel with almost no schmear. I used to go there consistently because they are really close to my house but I think I'm done now. Too many disappointments. If you do go I highly recommend asking them to toast your bagel twice, if not it will be lukewarm and the bread won't even be browned on top. read more

I've been here a few times now, and I'm honestly pretty disappointed with the quality in the bagels. I've now tasted four different bagels and four different spreads - and have yet to eat one entirely. Today's visit of the pretzel bagel was SO salted that I couldn't even eat it, and the garlic & herb topping was so garlicky that it ruined the whole thing. So that was a waste of money. Then the berry spread is not very sweet or berry-ish at all, probably due to it being "lite" so I think they need to offer more full-strength fruity spreads. (I believe the other two fruit spreads were lite too.) But anyways, my bagels were supposed to be toasted as well, and when I got home they were still soft as ever. Just like the first visit. You'd think it was because maybe they were rushing, but on both visits I was the only one in the store..... so I don't think this will get any more of my money, I'm much better off going to Kroger down the street and getting their bakery bagels. read more

This review is for the College Mall Rd. location which doesn't yet have its own Yelp page: I'm living here for the summer and have been here twice now. On food alone, I'd give 3 stars; it's not bad at all, but it's not spectacular especially if you compare it to true east coast bageldom (a standout is the Breakfast Bagel sandwich...try it with Muenster cheese). Staff and atmosphere bumps it up to 4 stars. The folks working there were great and smiley. The music playing was awesomely eclectic with celtic, singer-songwriter folk (Nick Drake, people!) and reggae. I sat and read for a couple of hours while a steady stream of customers came in and the place maintained a good vibe throughout. I'll return frequently as long as I'm here. read more

I frequently come in to Bloomington Bagel during the week. I come mostly in the afternoon, but pop in mornings from time to time. The manager and employee who work in the early mornings are always very nice and friendly. Seem to work great together, and get people's food made quickly! They always small talk, and make you feel like you know them. I can't help but notice when I come in the afternoons that this one young lady with short hair that works is usually on her phone or has her headphones in. She doesn't seem to be very happy to be here, and isn't very attentive to customers. I used to work at a restaurant, and I know a huge part of a business is customer service. I'm not sure if management is aware of her behavior or is around later in the afternoon or not to witness it. It definitely is off putting to have someone taking care of you who is hard to get their attention, because their head is in their phone. It also doesn't put a good face on the business. I love BBC! Love the food! Love the business! Love most of the workers! Local places have always been my favorite. They just need to weed out the lazy college students who are just there for a paycheck. read more

Today I asked if they could handle my order of six sandwiches before they began (young sons had a sleepover crew to feed) and they said yes. Beyond that I asked for, and made it known I would need, bagels thrown in a bag an some smears in a tub. Four people working behind the counter kept the line moving. When more customers showed up at once I was told rudely that they would fill my order "this time" but that next time I should call in an order "this size" as a catering order. I was embarrassed in front of other customers, I had asked if they could fill my order upon placing it, and my order cost $90 which only took them a few minutes to prepare. When I paid I asked for the manager's business card. The employee who had been rude said that he was the manager. Surprised, I said then I suppose I won't be back again. He supported his statements by saying that there was a line and I had caused them to run out of bagels. I said that with four people helping others I thought they'd done a good job of keeping the line moving around me, and whether they sell the bagels to me or someone else didn't they still get their money? I pointed out that I had spent $90 and was teated badly. I should have pointed out that I also had asked them whether they could handle my order before they began. I won't be back, which is unfortunate since we have been going there for years (and placing "large orders"). Their rudeness may affect their profit margin. read more
