The Dagwood Supreme Sub

We almost didn't go here because of the yelp reviews, but we had a friend who swore it was the best sandwich, so we went. It did NOT disappoint. We got their special (because why would you get anything else) and it was STACKED. The bread was soft and flavorful and the toppings were plenty. It was a bit messy but worth every bite. The ambiance is a little dingy, and I wouldn't say it's got great vibes to sit in - but picking up a sandwich for lunch or ordering door dash - I would do it in a heartbeat. I'll be back for sure.

Sandwich was subpar for the price of the sandwich. It Is way above out-of-state prices. Just a mere cafetorium a line, but is there an alarm for all. I feel like I was back in elementary school with people throwing slop on a plate. If you try to request a menu item, they felt put off. Then when you get to the register, you realize you could've gone to a steakhouse for the prices they charge for a sandwich and it was astronomical. I mean I could've gone to Ruth and Chris, her prime rib for the price I paid for two sandwiches that we did not even eat. I'm

The young lady at the cash register was knowledgeable and helped us order as low-carb as we could get for being on a keto diet. The meal was perfect and bottled water available was awesome too. It took a while to get, but worth the wait!

I love the selection of sandwiches here and enjoyed my Turkey Dreamin' sandwich. I was craving avocado and sprouts, and this sandwich totally hit the spot. While the sandwiches are good, I was blown away by the fluffy bread. Super delicious and fresh!

The ultimate Turkey sandwich with potato salad and a pickle combo

The food is phenomenal! I have never had a bad meal or had anything bad on the menu! Always amazing service! You can tell the owner puts time and effort into serving everyone! The deli is chill and you def feel the college town vibes. It's a great place to hangout in between classes or grab a sandwich on your way home from classes (right near all the bus stops too)!

Ultimate turkey. Almost as good as that take home cup.

The Village Deli is known for it's amazing breakfast options, including the famous 'pancake the…read moresize of a hubcap' that is somehow perfectly cooked even though it's huge. But rarely is it thought of as a lunch place, and it should be. I, for the first time ever, ordered a lunch item and was seriously impressed. Kids decided to grace us with their presence for lunch (both are in college) and while I'd like to think it was because they missed us, it's more likely they wanted free food. Whatever, it was good to see them and one wanted breakfast food and the other lunch, so the village deli was the choice. My wife ordered the BLT with hot chips, which she said is her go-to every time. She used to work down the street, so she's a regular. I am not a BLT fan, so didn't try it - even for Yelp I'm not touching a fully dressed BLT - but she loved it as usual. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. I usually get breakfast but I had a big breakfast earlier and was craving a sandwich. Glad I made the choice. It was amazing. Huge portion of chicken, plenty of ham and Swiss. If you've read my reviews, you know I had them keep the mustard away from it, so can't speak to that. The hot chips were great. They make their own potato chips, they are served hot/warm, and they might need a bit more salt, but better than french fries. Kid 1 (the one who wanted lunch) ordered breakfast. Ugh. Paxton's Potatoes and the breakfast croissant. Paxton's are basically hash brown/home fries with cheese, gravy and chives. You can add an egg (I suggest it) and the croissant is what you think it is - croissant and egg sandwich, with or without protein addition. Both are great. Kid2 had his usual power breakfast which is a drink plus two eggs, home fries, and one (plenty for two people) pancake. He gets his plain, I suggest banana and walnut additions. He's allergic to nuts so probably a bad idea, lest we need the epi pen. He's a growing boy and still gave me half the pancake if that gives you any idea of the size. Great service as usual. It was a week day, so not too crowded for lunch. Their motto is 'Eat and Get Out' but during lunch it's probably not an issue. On the weekends, the place is slammed full all day - expect a wait and them to rush you a bit. On Sunday it's best to beat the church crowd. TLDR: Eat here if you've visiting your kid at college, looking for a good lunch or great breakfast, and never ever order two pancakes.

Wow. What happened? This place I swore by not so long ago has taken a serious nosedive…read more Lunch with the kid again. Fun, right? Nope. They were a bit busy but it didn't seem like a huge crowd today. We sat outside again. I knew what I wanted immediately, and placed our order as soon as our waitress came over to greet us. A cheeseburger for the kid, and a pulled pork sandwich for me. I've never had theirs before. And I never will again. And fries. We got fries. The wait was insane. At least a half hour for very simple dishes. The kid got a tiny burger. Beef and bun. No cheese, no ketchup. I had to ask for cheese. Yes. They messed up a cheese burger. Then there was my pulled pork. It was literally inedible. I've since come to learn that it was not reheated properly, so the goo that covered every bit of meat was fat. It was served cold, for some reason, and the way it was presented on the menu, listed under a picture of some yummy browned wings led me to believe it would be a very different - and HOT- sandwich. The server did offer to take it back, but at that point the meal was ruined for me and I didn't trust them to make anything else, or make it quickly. I made it clear I was very unhappy about such a disgusting sandwich. She took all of 10% off my bill. Better than nothing, but a lot less than I was expecting. if this is how they're doing things now, I'm done with this place. Badly overseasoned fries... cold pulled pork... cheeseburger with no cheese... I mean, come on... and based on what little I caught from people at another table, getting food out seemed to be an issue for them. I'm not sure if any other places nearby that aren't just bars serve decent food, but if they do, you can definitely give this place a hard pass. Yuck.

Delicious food. Cheap drinks. Great service. Ask for Piper. She is really quick and cool.read more

Bloomington Bagel vs Gables is kind of a hot local debate, but I don't really have a preference and I like both of them for different reasons. I think the quality of the bagels here is a little better (this is the only place where they are made fresh) and there's more customization options for sandwiches, but the Gables bagels are a little bigger and the sandwich style is closer to NY/NJ delis. Lots of options to build you own sandwich here with many bagel and schmear flavours and different veggies. Because the style of bagel is thick/fluffy and not very wide around, sometimes the fillings do not want to stay in the sandwich. They have some delicious options though. I especially love the sushi-inspired Godzilla sandwich made with smoked salmon, miso schmear, and nori. The veggies are always fresh and generously piled on. As for non-bagel offerings, they have some other baked goods, like muffins and cookies. The blueberry muffin I tried was great. The cookies are usually good but kind of inconsistent. They're usually very soft but occasionally you will get a suboptimal crumbly one. The cookies are very sugary and huge. I have been known to eat an entire cookie at once but to be honest I usually regret it, so I recommend splitting one in half to share or save for later. They have coffee and espresso drinks, tea, and smoothies. Unfortunately no decaf coffee or espresso. I keep getting tea to go with my cookie or bagel but the selection is all very cheap brands. I like the chai though. Service is very good. They're on it so you don't have to wait too long even when it gets busy. Sometimes the place is packed and sometimes unexpectedly empty, and I can't figure out if there's any pattern to it.
