We got catering trays for a graduation party: brisket, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, assorted individual bags of chips, and a vegetable tray. So delicious, great service. Definitely the best meat market in Bloomington. They are now serving pre-made pre-packaged meals. Just heat and eat. We picked up the jambalaya and it is SO good. The Butcher's Block is a first rate butcher/gourmet shop. The quality of the seafood is unsurpassed, as good or better as I was able to get in Los Angeles. We are really interested in the source of our meat and whether it is organic, humane, contains hormones, etc. We traveled specifically to the Butcher's Block thinking that a place specializing in meat could give at least some basic background on the meat sources. I felt like by asking questions, I was wasting their time and annoying them. There were two young men behind the counter. The idea of a neighborhood butchery is so foreign to me. Growing up in suburbs of Los Angeles, the only place my family bought meat was at the grocery story; a neighborhood butchery was only something I saw on TV. But, since moving to Bloomington, I see benefit of butcheries like The Butcher's Block! They always have a great selection of meat and seafood (seafood in the midwest is scary to me, but I trust Butcher's Block!) as well as fantastic deals. Most recently, I participated in their January Meat Sale which was 15lbs of meat for $45 - such a GREAT deal! You had to pre-order for pick up & they were really accommodating on timing. When I picked up and took home my order, I realized I was missing 3lbs. I called and they immediately fixed the issue with no questions asked. I really appreciate how sincere and quick they were. They also sell an assortment of charcuterie meats & cheese! A little pricey but their Iberico was great. Located in the same plaza as Starbucks, Moe's, etc. so parking can get a little tight. 38/365 read more

I used to love this place, since expanding the addition of sandwiches and other quick grab items are great. The staff however aren't as knowledgeable and my recent experience I'd say less attentive. I actually stood 20 min in front of the seafood watching 3 employees have a conversation and completely ignore me. I finally walked over to the"meat" area and waited another 10 min for someone to look up. They couldn't answer my question about the fish and made no effort to find someone who could! Don't know if I'll continue to drive over for my meat and seafood if they continue to offer such poor service read more

The selection is always fresh and seasonally changing. Fresh seafood imported from NY. World-class Applewood smoked and Indiana Plank bacon. Delicious seasonings available. If they don't have the meat you're looking for, you likely can't find it in Bloomington. The expansion has allowed them to add many things that are hard or impossible to find elsewhere, Irish Bangers, ground goat meat, dried salted cod, Spanish chorizo, etc. Plus, they have the freshest and best selection of seafood and fish in town. As for their barbecue, the meats are good, but the baked beans and horseradish pickles are the best in town. My only criticism is their baffling decision to close on Sundays. On multiple occasions, I've wanted to pick something up to grill on Sundays only to be reminded they aren't open. One would think it would be better for business to open on Sundays and close on Monday. That's the only reason I didn't give them five stars. read more

I ordered a beef tenderloin filet. It was the best steak we have ever had. It was so tender you could cut it with a fork and easy to grill. We are ordering our second one tonight. Hand cut meat. They have a great selection and the meat experts know their stuff and are happy to make recommendations. Seafood is also good when they have it. If you usually buy your meat at Kroger or Marsh, make the extra stop and pay the extra $1 or $2 and get the good stuff. It's worth it! read more

I think this may be the only exclusively-butcher-shop shop in Btown... They are GREAT! I frequently come in (esp. in grilling season). The staff is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The meat selection is deeeelicious. They have a wide variety of meats, but I mostly use them for beef and pork. I saw another review commenting on the staff. Yes, I must agree, they do get better looking each year. So there's the added bonus, georgous young men to watch get your food.... IDK, but maybe they just seem more attractive because of some weird instinct manifesting when we observe a nice looking lad provide us with dinner? ... OR the owners could just have a 'Hollister' policy, and only hire '8's and above. Either way- Im not complaining. They usually have ground beef for about $3/lb. I think bacon runs about $4/lb. Fish is usually pretty high; rarely less than $9/lb. Chicken is higher here than most grocery stores, but I never eat chicken so idk the $$s. They also offer exotic meat. Unusual starting with lamb climbing all the way up to crazy with Kangaroo (and Crocodile?). read more

EAT HERE. If you like cured meats just eat here right now! They just opened Craftdeli inside the butcher shop and the sandwich I got today was ridiculously good. The meat is so freaking tasty. And they have nice crunchy house-baked bread too. I got the Craft #1, which comes with Genoa salami, capicolla, prosciutto and provolone cheese. I couldn't even do anything else while I was enjoying this sandwich. This is my advice to you: buy a sandwich, eat it while doing nothing else so you enjoy every bite. I love this place! An old fashioned butcher shop. They have everything you could want in a butcher shop, beef, pork, ostrich, rabbit, buffalo I mean everything. They smoke their own salmon, ribs, sausages. They post on Facebook fresh fish, and shellfish arrivals. Recently had stone crab claws and gulf shrimp. I'm a fish snob after living in Florida for years and just so u know what they serve is fresh! Top notch customer service. Thank you very much. The Butcher's Block is an amazing place to go for your meat needs. The meat's high quality, cooks up well, and they've got a good variety. They've also got a more "exotic" meat selection on the wall, but it's often hit or miss as to whether they'll actually have it or not, but to be fair, that's how it generally goes with exotic meats. Everything I've ever bought has been high quality at least. It's expensive, sure, but I think it's well worth the price. The employees are incredibly attentive. I went today and had at least four work to help me while I was still looking. Some might find this annoying; I find it appealing. I also asked them questions--how much such and such would they recommend to feed six people? I'm looking to make a carbonara, which of your bacons or pancettas would you recommend? What's your favorite sausage here--okay I'd like a pound of that. These guys obviously know how to handle their meat. Okay, I can't manage it. Even trying to write without making meat puns is causing me to write as if I'm trying to make them. Great customer service and quality product! What is Great: There is a great selection of product and the employees are skilled at what they do. Special orders are no problem. They perfectly butterflied, de-boned, and de-skinned a turkey breast for a Mother's Day lunch - that happened to turn into my own engagement party (he proposed that morning) - good thing the turkey was perfect! I've been a loyal customer since I moved to Bloomington. Without a doubt, Butcher's Block provides excellent quality products. However, as a business establishment founded by a Kelley alumni, supposedly Butcher's Block knows better how to maintain good customer experience. I've had a few unpleasant experiences such as long waiting times and being ignored by the staff (they prefer to serve the customers who arrived after me). I can still tolerate those few instances. But just today, I went to pick up my order and as a customer, I was treated like garbage. The worst ever experience I have in my life as a customer. The staff is simply rude and keeps yelling at me without any attempt to listen or understand what I'm trying to say. I understand the current circumstances with covid-19 makes everyone nervous. I also understand that not all the staffs at Butcher's Block are rude. I simply share my experience for you to better understand how your business operates. I hope you can make some improvements by caring more about your customers and train your staff to treat your customers better. I'm not sure if those treatments happened to me because of racial issues (I am a minority) or simply some of your staff are just plain ignorant. P.S. I am the one that one of your staff keeps yelling "Get out!" to. Be more polite, it won't cost you anything and will make our world a better place to live in. read more

The best! When I lived in Bloomington while attending school, the Butcher's Block was definitely one of my best culinary finds. All of their meat is spot on and if you don't know the proper or best way to cook something, they are all very knowledgeable. In addition to having a great selection and fantastic quality, they also make gourmet sandwiches on the spot!! The sandwiches at Butcher's Block are HANDS DOWN the best sandwiches I have ever had in my entire life. I currently live in San Diego and so I am exposed to a wonderful food culture, but I still maintain that it doesn't get any better than a hand crafted sandwich from the Butcher's Block. We discovered Butchers Block years ago and it has been our go to butcher ever since. Their service has always been top notch and their willingness to go above and beyond surprising over and over again. Even during this difficult time they have worked to set up a system to keep good food available and their employees/customers safe with curbside ordering. When the meat matters, get it here. I don't cook carnivore-pleasing meals all that often, but I have always been pleased with purchases from this spot -- steaks, sausages, lamb, all good. It's VERY difficult to get in to the parking lot of this corner strip mall if you're on southbound 46 -- you have to make a left at the 3rd St. light, go down 1/4 mile, left again, and work your way back through several other strip mall parking lots. If you are driving southbound and trying to find this place for the first time, get a map. Really. The city should fire the planner who designed this access -- it's awful! But once you manage to get there, it's worth it. read more
