My father and I both dropped a calf off on 10/09/24 into the same pen. My parents received a call 21 days later to come pick up their beef. I went in assuming that mine would be ready as well and to my surprise it was not. When I asked about it the lady at the register was less than professional as a customer service point view. She informed me that my calf was not ready. I continued to ask as to why two calves in the same pen brought in the same day were not both ready. She did not have an answer. I then received a call this morning 11/05/24 informing me that my calf was ready for pick up. This is very odd to have a calf at the processing plant for 26 days. My main worry and concerns is that if this beef is truly mine. It is not a large facility and there were at least 10 animals in the pens when I departed. This is not a good business practice and surely leaves a huge gap for trust. I am a small farmer and sell beef to local friends and family. They to are now asking me why the calf was at the processing plant for so long. My family has gone to "Rice's" all of my life and sadly this will be my last trip. I will be searching for a new facility for myself and my parents. Good luck read more

Holy cow! (and pig, and chicken, and elk...) Today we took the scenic drive from Bloomington to Rice's Quality Farm Meats in Spencer. A friend told us about Rice's and I am so glad she did. Rice's has been around for over 40 years and when you walk in you can see why: it's meat nirvana! The owner and his wife were both very welcoming and obviously proud of what they have built. There is a good selection of fresh meats, lunch meats and cheeses as well as a huge selection of frozen meats, sausages and fruit. The prices are terrific! Since moving to Bloomington I have been buying meat at the Butcher Block and while it is a great place to buy meat, Rice's blows them out of the water as far as quality, cost and customer service goes. We bought some chicken/spinach/feta sausage (made in house), some rib eye steak (cut thin for sandwiches) and a bag of frozen cherries from Michigan. We also got a box of girl scout cookies from a young scout who had her table set up inside the store. (bonus!) The sausages were delicious and the steaks are some of the best I have ever had. The quality is amazing. Oh, and our entire purchase was under $20. If you are a meat lover and live in the area, you have to make the drive to Rice's. It's only about 30 minutes from Bloomington and totally worth it. read more

They have the best selection of meats at a reasonable price. Love how you can order cuts. Or go in like a grocery.

I can say enough positive things about this place. The staff was super helpful. We had a pig butchered and processed. They gave us several choices on what our options were. They vacuum seal everything, it wasn't wrapped in butcher paper. The smoke flavor on the meat was perfect! We got the spicy sausage. It's absolutely delicious! I went here to have my deer processed and found out it was going to be 2-3 weeks. Since I'm from AZ and would be leaving way before that I had a real problem. I left it with them and hoped for the best. They must have felt bad for me and had it done the next day. They didn't have to do that but I am happy they did. They put the customer first even though they were backed up. Kudos for the customer service. read more
