Absolutely love this butcher shop! Decent prices and really good quality. They usually have flank steak in stock which is somewhat difficult to find at grocery stores. I also love making beef jerky and found that if you call them during the week that they will cut as much as you want for pickup. Consistent thickness is key and they do a good job for a minimal up charge. They also sell potatoes for baking, some sauces/spices but the main attraction is their meat case! Everything from chicken breasts to pork chops to damn near every cut of beef they have has been good. Can't say enough about this place They do charge a fee to use a credit card, but debit cards and cash are the same price. Not a big deal, just something to note. read more

I was in search for a Meat Shop on a Saturday to pick up some lamb chops for Mother's Day dinner. Upon searching local I discovered Don's Butcher Shop. I was greeted with a warm welcome and the butchers behind the glass asked what I was looking for. The showed me the different lamb chop options they had and even offered to cut it up since there was a bone. They wrapped it up for me and I went to check out. Sunday I went to Don's butcher shop to get the dogs some bones since they've been so good. While I was there the guy told me they had some chopped up chicken for dogs. He said they started making it because people were telling them they should make some dog treats. So I bought 2 containers thinking it would be good to boil and purée to put Suzies meds in. Today I boiled the chopped chicken, After cooking about 20min I was stirring it and found pieces of plastic in it, not just one small piece but a lot. Now I don't want the stew meat I bought there and glad I checked the bones before giving them to the dogs. I'll never buy anything from here again that's for sure... not a good first impression!! The pictures aren't even all I found, I just stopped looking and threw it out. I'm concerned about the dogs that had eaten this stuff. read more

Don's Butcher shop is the only place I'll get my steaks from. They have the TAMAHAWK steak! It's huge and picture perfect for grilling. They only let 7 people at a time into the store and their face mask policy is awesome. It's so clean and everyone is so nice. The quality of meat is on point. I would never shop anywhere else. They also have all the staples; hamburger, pork chops, filet mignon, Amish chicken, etc. There's a small pantry area with steak sauce, seasoning's, and potatoes. Don's was recommended to me by a friend who does grilling competitions and says he'll only use their brisket. I can see why all the meat loving guys like Don's. Their cuts of meat are far superior to your Kroger and Meijer variety and priced about the same. If you follow them on Facebook you might be able to catch the flash sales they have in the family area like $1.99 hamburger or .99 chicken. Love Don's! I'm definitely a lifer customer. read more

Don has been a meat cutter for 40 years and decided to open his own shop. With the help from his wife Betty and daughter Lynn he has finally made his dream a reality. They only deal usda beef from all over the Midwest mostly Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. They do all of there own cutting and grinding in house. The ground beef is made fresh everyday. Anything from the previous day is discounted and put in the back freezer to purchase. Anything left from that is donated to gleaners food bank.The ground beef is exactly what it says it is they NEVER add fat to the grinds! All of the pork comes from a local farmer in New Delphi, Indiana except for the cured or smoked items. They make there own sausage mixes by cutting the shoulder and loin ends, adding spices and then doing the grinding. They get old fashion Amish Chickens whole and break them down in the shop. NO hormones or antibiotics. The boneless skinless breast are the exception. They're regular commercial chicken no hormones no antibiotic. You can also call ahead to place meat orders or if you want a variety pack just call 24 hours in advance. This is truly a hidden gem a hometown family business. read more

Called to ask about getting some fresh side cut and the lady was EXTREMELY rude...told me that they don't have a meat slicer. Really? You're a butcher shop with NO MEAT SLICER?? LMAO! (Truth be told it's probably the same product that sells to Kroger or Walmart and that's why they don't need a slicer.) Then she went on to explain how (Don, presumably) works long hours and doesn't have time "He works at 5am and sometimes doesn't get home until 2pm!" with an indignant tone (as far as I know that's a normal full 8 hour day? Awwww) like it's our fault he has to work? We get it....you want to give the bare minimum, while charging premium prices. I spoke with "Don" around 2 years ago maybe...after they first opened and he was really rude also. Woof. read more

My family and I have been purchasing meat from Don's for several years now. We live way up on the North side, but still drive down to the South side for beef and pork, because Don's has the best quality for the best value. They have some of the best bacon we've ever had and they're around the same price (or sometimes less) than your run-of-the-mill grocery store bacon. We usually buy 4-8 pounds at a time. We've also had good chops here. The beef here is also fantastic. When we buy steaks to cook at home, we prefer going to a local butcher to get better quality cuts. We've bought porterhouses, t-bones, and ribeyes. The porterhouses and ribeyes are always great. The t-bones sometimes are a little dry and I'm not sure why compared to the full porterhouses. My favorite though is my annual Christmas prime rib roast. The price is below average for most rib roasts, but definitely premium quality beef. If you ever want a prime rib for the holidays - make sure to pre-order shortly after Thanksgiving. The meat is juicy, tender, and flavorful. Yes, you're still going to drop a decent chunk of changes for one of those rib roasts, but you get what you paid for ($15.99/lb was the price for 2021). Don's has made repeat customers out of us, and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. read more

I went to Don's for the first time recently and liked it a lot. I wanted to get a steak for a special occasion and ended up getting a huge tomahawk ribeye. It was definitely a showstopper of a steak. It was very tasty and I thought the price was fair. The other meat behind the counter looked really good too. They had some family packs for sale at the end and a few grocery items. I've only been here once, so I wouldn't put too much weight on this experience. I got 4 porterhouses; The person who served me asked if I was going to Ethan tonight and I said probably not till the next day or even after that because I wasn't sure who was coming over that weekend. When I did get to them the next day one of them was quite questionable in quality it was soft and mushy whereas the rest of the meat was quite good I would say. I just think you should keep an eye on them unless you've built a relationship. read more

Happened upon Don's while killing some time waiting for stores to open, since it was early they were closed as well. About a week later, we visited the shopping center again and decided to head into Don's to check it out. We are thrilled we did! The employees were so helpful and informative, telling us where the meats were from and how they do business. They really couldn't have been nicer. Delicious looking meats, clean store and great prices. Our local meat shop closed recently and although this one is across town, it's a huge improvement from big box store or chain grocery store meats which nowadays is questionable at best. We purchased only a couple steaks and I'm happy to report that they were wonderful, both tender and flavorful! We plan on returning once our freezer is close to empty to stock it again, this time from Don's. read more

Staff is very good at educating you on the anatomy of pork, beef, etc so you know what you're buying. Wife works at St.francis saw Don's decided to try out. Bought 2 pounds bacon, 2 sirloins and a rib eye. Paid a PREMIUM price for this meat. Bacon was good. Sirloins were very tough and I mean tough cooked medium and we gave up after a few bites and gave to the dogs. I like ribeye steaks... but not these... tough and tasted funny... gave to dogs also....so 55.00 for a dog snack!!! My fiancé and I come here about once every two weeks and spend about $100-$130 and we always leave with amazing, fresh meats, pork, and chicken. We divide everything up and put out what I will be using over the next few days to cook with and freeze the rest until I use it. The crew there are so so friendly and down to earth. Yesterday, I went in about 45 minutes before they closed and both of the gentlemen in there were so kind and helpful. I ended up getting about $115 worth of food but turns out I was like $4 short so the older man ringing me up actually took money out of his own pocket and covered what I couldn't. Don's provides the best of everything. Beef, Pork, or Chicken it doesn't matter because it's always top quality. The peppered bacon is to die for, I must be addicted because I get it every time its available. The T-Bone or Porterhouse steaks are always a good choice and are cost effective for a great meal. I even had round steak custom ordered and cut thin to make a natural beef jerky at home without the additives.
