I can see why this biz shows up as being "unclaimed"...had them out back in January to redo some incorrectly installed insulation by a previous handyman in the garage ceiling as well as insulate/ replace drywall in the small (12'×12') adjacent family room, install underlayment and sheet flooring in the entry/ family room, replace the trim along the baseboards and door to the garage, and rehang the bifold door to the crawl space. He agreed to drop his price to $12,000, after initially quoting $15,000.
The guys they brought in had little or no experience installing insulation as they put some of it in backwards and made similar mistakes with the garage ceiling and wall.
Although no one on their team was a licensed electrician, they attempted to install a light fixture in the FR ceiling. Luckily I contacted the Joliet building dept here and they told me about the licensing requirement. Also found out that neither Bloom nor the owner had registered with the dept as required for contractors.
It gets worse: in spite of never receiving a revised and improved contract (the original one was a joke, and contained no information that one would normally find in a legitimate repair contract), they had not only started working but when I gave them the deposit check, the owner attempted to deposit it with his own signature instead of the business', so the bank reversed funds when his mistake showed up. He had 2 chances by my bank to get it right and blew it both times.
The owner and his office worker both demanded that I provide them with a cashier's check, even though the mistake was by the owner. Since by now I didn't trust him to responsibly and correctly deposit a cashier's check, I decided to directly deposit the funds into the biz checking account. I had to estimate the amount as he never supplied me with a hardcopy invoice for the work completed up to that point, since between the mistakes made with the work, the terrible customer "service" by him/ office person, as well as leaving me wondering for over a week what was going on and whether he was returning to finish the project, I decided enough was enough. After nearly two weeks of no communication from him and assuming that he'd abandoned the project, I got a demand email from the O/P to pay them $10,000!!! All they did was put in insulation (and had to redo some of their work after I pointed out their mistakes) before getting around to doing the drywall; afterwards I found that they did such a bad job on the drywall around the garage entry door that I won't be able to install any trim around it, meaning that the drywall will now need to be redone (by a different company, of course.)
No flooring, no trim, no re-hung closet door.
All in all, they did work that most legit contractors would have completed successfully in less time and for somewhere between $5-$7k.
If these clowns go through with their demand for $10,000, which is extortion pure and simple, by attempting to file a lien, then they will get a fight from me and a lawsuit to boot.
Just avoid them. Not experienced nor conscientious workers, and unable to draw up even a basic contract as well as responsibly handle the funds entrusted to them. The office assistant, who is apparently a relative of the owner, was rude, overbearing and has no "people skills " whatsoever. I'd give "0" stars if I could. read more
