I don't know why I ever bothered contacting anyone else for handyman services…read more Michael has come up more than once when someone in the neighborhood Facebook group has been seeking a handyman. It was my fault that I didn't go with him from the get-go. I had experiences with two others that were terrible: The first one installed a couple things that were falling out by the time he left, and the second one apparently doesn't need business because he didn't respond to me for over 10 days after coming to take a look at what I needed. But anyway, this review is about the AWESOMENESS that is Michael! He responded within a day of my contacting him, which was a great place to start. He asked me to let him know what I needed and set up a time within a week or so. Then he contacted me to let me know he'd had a cancellation and could come three days earlier if I wanted! Yes please!! Michael is so personable. I liked him from the moment I opened the door, literally. One of the first things he said to me was "Can I tell you something about this door?" Apparently he has lots of customers who don't realize their storm doors have a screen and wanted to show me (I already knew though!). The most important task I had for him on this visit was to reattach the handrail that had been removed by some movers, and which had before they removed it been loose and coming out of the wall. That handrail is now rock solid. I honestly think I could hang from it (and I'm not a small gal) and it would not budge. He patched the drywall from where it had been coming out of the wall, and then he checked the remaining four or five handrails in the house to make sure they are equally as strong. He also gave tips on some filters for the furnace, and suggestions for smoke detectors--which was very timely, because I had been researching them before he visited. He's not inexpensive but he's worth every darn penny. I won't ever use another handyman whilst I live here, and I'm already feeling sad in my heart that if/when we do move, it'll probably be to a near suburb or outlying neighborhood like Norwood Park that he doesn't service and I'm mourning the loss of this awesome dude as my go-to handymensch.

Between the email exchange and the visit, I came up with a list of to do's, including the disposal, toilet issues, door and shelf issues, lighting problems, etc. In addition to fixing them all, he gave me a long list of ideas and recommendations and easy fix its from air filters to fire/carbon monoxide detectors, to ceiling fans, to water heaters, and the list goes on. All in an hour. It was a tremendous value for the money. I can't recommend Michael enough.

The repairman that I initially spoke with over the phone was super responsive and very polite. I was so impressed by the Yelp reviews and by the phone call that I immediately scheduled an appointment with him. After I finished setting up the service appointment we discussed the time, location, and other details. I immediately placed an order from my local hardware store and to have all the items (appliances) shipped to my home. The day before the scheduled appointment the repairman messaged me that he made a mistake and that he was supposed to schedule my appointment for the following day. He also mentioned that I did not send him a deposit to lock in my appointment as if I lost the appointment due to not paying him a deposit. I was confused! We never discussed a deposit or a deposit amount when I spoke with the handyman over the phone. I did not see the other Yelpers reference in their post anything about Zelle quick paying their repairman for a deposit. I thought something was odd I immediately thanked him for his time and told him I would not need his company to complete the repairs!

It took 2 visits to measure to the satisfaction of Andersen to correctly identify the right replacement gasket (Andersen may have as many as 20 models). Before the repairs, I had to slam the door vigorously and finish by kicking the door in order to get it closed. Thieves robbed my next door neighbor, perhaps having seen how difficult it would be to open my door! After repairs, the back door can now be opened & closed like a normal door. It has proper weatherstripping that makes it more energy efficient. Good job, difficult, but mission was accomplished.

I scheduled the work around last November, as I wanted my deck to be refinished and looking good for the full 2025 season. The first days with decent weather in late April the deck was washed, and by early May the deck was finished. A crew of 2 worked a full day power washing and bleaching the deck and 2 sections of yard fencing. Every part of the deck was thoroughly cleaned, including areas not normally visible, and all areas of the deck that were surrounded by bushes. Within about a week, as soon as we had a few sunny days and warmer weather, a crew of three worked a full day sanding and staining the deck and fence. The deck floor was power sanded, and all other surfaces were hand sanded, before all sawdust was carefully blown away and stain was applied. Deck Doc did an outstanding job, and I would not hesitate to recommend them. Communications regarding scheduling were excellent, work was done competently and on the days and at the times promised. The area around the deck was left completely clean when work was completed. Thank you for making my deck look like new.

They were also very clean and the workers that were in and out of my condo were very polite. I will definitely call them again for my next projects. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the communication could have been better coordinated. It seems they have different contacts for all aspects: estimates, payments, and actual work. This is my only knock on AGH, but overall I am very happy with all the work performed in my condo!

I had called multiple roofers because I was having an issue with water leaking into my living room…read more None of them though could give me a definitive answer as to what was causing the issue and would therefore not perform any guaranteed work to fix the issue. I asked all the roofers if they wanted to cut into the ceiling but all insisted 'we work from the top down, not the bottom up'. I contacted Wall Eye to see if they would cut into my ceiling so I could perform an investigation into the issue myself. When David came by I got A LOT more than I expected. He not only did a great job of making a clean cut into my ceiling, he then took the time to take a look at the damage inside the ceiling, go outside to take a look at what was above the leak, and go upstairs to take a look at the window/roof above the leak. Before he left he told me 'I'm not a roofer but if I was to bet, your issue lies either with the seal around your window or the portion of your roof right above it". After David left I contacted another roofing company to come by and give their opinion of the issue (now being able to see inside the ceiling) and they stated they believed the issue was the EXACT same thing David did. The roofing company said they were so sure that this was the issue (based on being able to see inside the ceiling) that they were now able to guarantee the work that was done. The roofers have since completed their work and I have not the issue since. I am sure there are dozens if not more drywall contractors out there who can cut a hole or patch a hole - thankfully I was able to find one though who went completely above and beyond what was requested and/or required - David is a true 'class act' who I will never hesitate to call for any drywall work I need done in the future.

He has been paid 90% of the project amount to date and left behind inferior workmanship, debris from demolition, and zero communication of how he plans to resolve this despite multiple attempts to contact him. We were willing to come to a resolution with Jacob so long as he provided satisfactory work, but due to his unresponsiveness, we have since hired a replacement and are looking at another $9,100 to FIX + COMPLETE the work that he was initially hired for. Our experience with Jacob & Handy Fellas was incredibly disappointing. In the end, the project is costing us far more money and time than expected because of our decision to hire this contractor. -------------------------------- In response to business' comments: Feel free to choose any of the texts or emails sent to you dating back to September 24, 2019. Jacob was able to do the entire job in one day (running a conduit from the floor to behind tv, setting up new electrical outlet behind tv, mounting tv, etc.) Working with Jacob was awesome. Prior to Jacob, we had others provide estimates on the job and they completely exaggerated what needed to be done. This was not the case with Jacob. He was straight forward, and looked for the best way to do a quality job efficiently. We are so glad we reached out to him. We look forward to continuing to work with Jacob and Handy Fellas on future jobs.

I hate leaving 1 star reviews, but this contractor completely wasted my time. He provided an…read moreestimate in person that seemed fine, but I never received the written version despite multiple follow ups. When I called, he said it was sent (yes, I checked spam) but I never got it. Then 4-5 texts and a voicemail went completely unanswered. This is time sensitive due to a property sale and approaching closing date, and I could have gotten another GC out sooner. Buyer beware.

When it came to stain colors - what I had initially picked did not look like what I had described to Fredy as we were chatting. I have nothing but great things to say about Things 2 Fix. After a massive renovation project, we…read morewere left with two bathtubs that were leaking into the units below us. We had three different contractors come out to repair the leaks. All of them left us with outrageous bills, threats of litigation, and bathtubs that still leaked. After receiving payment, none of them would honor their "warranties" and come back to fix their deficient work. When I initially found Jon on Yelp, I was skeptical. I decided to give him a chance because I had no other options. They were extremely responsive and were able to come out in a few days. They fixed both leaks and honored their warranties for minor things I noticed after they left. Their prices are very reasonable. Furthermore, they are actually licensed, which is rare for most services that you find on Yelp. Most contractors will present a license, but have unlicensed workers do the actual work to cut costs. They are also extremely trustworthy and I would have them work in my home with no one present. If you have any issues, I highly recommend you contact them. They will not disappoint. As to the negative reviews left by Ryenne and Amy, all I can say is that Things 2 Fix was one of the most responsive contractors I have come across. They will be my first call if I ever need assistance again.
