What a surprise and extremely happy to see everyone! A big Thank You shout out to Koko At Kaila General manager "Cesar" and Assistant General manager "Bonnie" for scheduling and accommodating us with a semi-private area for our surprise birthday celebration. The breakfast buffet selection was excellent and everyone enjoyed the food and the experience in making their own waffles and having a custom chef prepared omelettes and along with all the "onolicious" entrees. Also thank you "Cesar" for having your baker prepare a delicious chocolate haupia birthday cake to celebrate our mom's/grandma's 99th birthday. Thank you to all the wonderful staff workers that assisted our family, friends and guest. They were extremely professional and friendly and made this celebration for our mom/grandma very memorable. Lastly, just sharing what mom/grandma said....she just wanted to enjoy breakfast brunch at Koko At Kaila with immediate family not knowing it was a surprise party for her with extended family and friends. She was in tears and very happy to have it at Halekoa Hotel as it was a very special place for her, after working 10 years in the personnel department, that allowed her to collect social security benefits following many many years working for the federal government. The call ended with the staff member saying, "We'll see you tomorrow, (day, date), at (time)." We received a message later that evening stating that they were fully booked & that they were "unable to confirm our reservation", when, in fact, there was never any discussion about our reservation having to be confirmed separately. In other words, a staff member accepting a reservation over the phone doesn't actually mean they'll honor it & that they are free to cancel your reservation at their whim. Their scheduled musical performers are top tier & their menu looks good. We had been looking forward to taking out-of-town guests here. It would've been merely disappointing if we had initially been told that they were fully booked when we called. Instead, they accepted a reservation, then they later rescinded it, & took no responsibility for it nor made an attempt to offer an alternative. GET IT TOGETHER, KANI KA PILA. I really enjoyed the pairing of the miso butterfish with the rice, since the Kanpachi did not come with rice. I really enjoyed my time at this establishment and would definitely want to come back for another special evening! They have outdoor/indoor seating so do keep that in mind if outside elements may influence your experience depending where you sit.

We ordered: - Ku'uipo (Sweetheart) Seafood Platter: Super fresh and tasty! It came with two shrimps, two oysters, lump crab, and ahi poke. The lump crab was surprisingly really good and there was a LOT. I only wish that there was some type of cracker or toast to eat with it. Otherwise you're pretty much eating lump crab by itself- not that that's a bad thing, but something to compliment it would have been ideal. - A5 Wagyu Deviled Eggs: I've never tried these before but they were actually really delicious! Super cute and perfect as a one bite appetizer. Definitely get the caviar on top if you can as well. - Miso Butterfish: This was pretty good but honestly it was HUGE. I couldn't eat the whole thing but I appreciated that it wasn't tiny. I think it came with way too much of the rice, but everything was pretty tasty together. - Butcher's Special Steak Cut: Really, really good. The steak was perfectly cooked. How can you go wrong? - Complimentary Birthday Dessert: I don't know exactly what it was, but it was so cute and really good! Overall, Solera is a pretty solid place for a nice date night or a special occasion. The only thing that knocks it from a 5 star to a 4 is that it is on the expensive side especially for an ala-carte menu. They do have a chef's pre-fixe menu at $100 per person which is much more reasonable, but we didn't care for the pre-fixe menu items at the time of visiting. The main course we had the Prime ribeye with lobster tail, Lemongrass lamb shank, Yuzu miso cod, and the curried jasmine rice and brussel sprouts we shared on the sides. Everything tasted amazing, everything was so tender and packed with flavour and not in the way thats too much or overpowering. We were staying at the Romer House and didn't have dinner plans, so we wandered into 855-Aloha. While we were looking over the menu, Matteo (the General Manager at the time) came over, welcomed us, and encouraged us to stay despite the wait. He then walked behind the bar, poured us two complimentary glasses of champagne, and invited us to relax while we waited for our table. That simple gesture set the tone for an incredible evening and was our first glimpse of the genuine hospitality this restaurant is known for. After that trip, we started planning our wedding and decided there was no better place than Oahu for a destination wedding. When it came time to plan our rehearsal dinner, 855-Aloha was one of the first places we reached out to. A few months later, while visiting Waikiki with my parents, we stopped in to show them the restaurant where we celebrated our engagement. Tanden, the Events Manager at the time, greeted us and, to our surprise, remembered me by name. He gave my parents a tour of the space and insisted we stay for a drink. Moments like that made us feel like more than just another reservation--they made us feel genuinely valued. Booking our rehearsal dinner here was an easy decision. Throughout the planning process, there was quite a bit of turnover within the events team. Every coordinator we worked with was warm, accommodating, and wonderful, with one exception. When we explored the possibility of extending our evening with a welcome party at Lei Stand after dinner, we found the experience with Samantha Molzer frustrating. The conversations felt unusually rigid, and instead of collaborating on options, we often felt reminded of policies and qualifications. Ultimately, we decided to host our welcome party across the street at Green Lady Cocktail Room, where the process felt more flexible and better suited to what we were looking for. (Ultimately the unreasonably firm quote she had given us did not make any sense. After our rehearsal dinner we still wandered over to the lei stand for a drink before heading over to our welcome party at another location and there were all of 4 guests in the entire bar. They probably would have profited greatly from hosting us!) Thankfully, Lisa stepped in to coordinate our event, and she and the entire team absolutely knocked it out of the park. Our rehearsal dinner was everything we had hoped for and more. The service was attentive, the food was fantastic, and every detail was thoughtfully executed. What stood out most, though, was the team's kindness. I had gotten sick a few days into our trip and still wasn't feeling well enough to eat much on the night of our rehearsal. I asked one of the servers if there happened to be any soup on the menu. They apologized that there wasn't, but then told me they had everything needed to make fresh miso soup from scratch if I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. Within minutes, they brought me a warm bowl of homemade miso soup. It was such a small gesture, but one I'll never forget. That level of care and hospitality is exactly what makes people return to a restaurant time and time again. Thank you to Lisa and the entire team for helping make such an important milestone in our lives even more special. We'll always look back on 855-Aloha with incredibly fond memories.

The fish was cooked perfectly - its dense and firm, not buttery like cod. Held up well with the sauce and sides. Dessert this day was a lemon/yuzu custard dish with merengue on top. I'm not usually a big lemon fan but this was tangy, light, and a fantastic finish to the meal. I opted for the wine pairing and was pleased with the chablis and the pinot.
