The coffee here is STRONG. I don't drink coffee for the caffeine ... I drink it for the taste! With that being said I had to resist gulping down my cup of sea salt coffee with almond milk because I would have gotten a huge headache. My biggest fear when I go into a coffee shop is getting coffee that is "fruity" (AKA sour)! But this place has smooth coffee that isn't bitter or sour. It's just right. I also tried my friend's LVTM (light Vietnamese coffee) and that one is fantastic! Best go-to coffee place by UC Irvine campus! I go here when I crave Vietnamese Coffee. I prefer the LVTM over the VTM because I think the coffee taste stands out much more in the LVTM. The food is also really great. I got to try their cinnamon pull-apart which tasted great! Also got to try to their chicken banh mi, which also tasted great. The spicy mayo was a nice touch. It's a really nice, quiet, small location next to the Google building and is a great study space. Parking is located in the IMPAC parking garage, which is a pay-to-park garage, but BLK validates! Their Viet Iced coffee is very strong and unique. It has a slightly coconutty taste and is the perfect balance of sweetness. I usually let the ice melt a bit, so that it's not as thick in consistency. Their green tea latte is also good, but there are times when they put too much milk. However, the staff is very accommodating and fixed my drink for me. The iced teas are also refreshing. It's a small shop, so there are limited study tables. Nothing authentic there except the bread and pickled carrots/daikon. I was excited to try his place based on all the reviews but I felt really ripped off. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE PARKING I was super worried that I would get charged for parking because there were no signs of validation or free parking, but I wss relieved to see that when you buy something or go inside, the cashiers will give you a card that validates up to two hours of parking. If you stay longer, don't worry because they can give you another one that lasts the rest of the day! The drinks are an ok price ($3-6) and good quality. I got an iced green tea latte with coconut milk and the matcha taste was somewhat masked by the coconut so I'd say to go with regular or almond milk instead. Had a fantastic first time at BLKdot two days ago. I got the Thai tea and it was the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. The cashier was a sweetheart from beginning to end. It was only my first time and I was in and out in under five minutes so there's not much to say but I do recommend getting the Thai tea! Hidden gem! It took me some time to figure out how to get here, but I finally did! It's by the a Google building and there is a huge parking structure where you can park. $1.75/hr!! But no fears, BLK validates. Their VTM is my favorite. Their lighter version is also good (tastes just about the same as the regular version). It's supposed to be less strong because they use espresso instead of their coffee base. Their sea salt coffee is also a good choice, but I do like their VTM better. read more

The LVTM coffee here is off the charts! But this review is for their service. A couple days ago, the preparation of my drink took a little longer than it should have. During my next visit, one of the employees (a very sweet girl who helps me all the time) recognized me, remembered what happened, stepped into the transaction and voluntarily comped my drink. I called to ask if they had any charging outlets before I went, because I wanted to study there and the lady on the phone said they didn't. So I left my 0% battery iPad at home and went in to get some coffee and lo and behold, they had charging outlets!!!! After a friend told me about this place, I decided to check it out, and man am I glad that I did! First, the service here is awesome. The baristas give out free samples for drinks you're not sure of getting yet. When it's almost closing time, they NEVER rush anyone to leave. Instead, they go around asking everyone in and outside of the shop if we need validation. Normally, I get a 1 hr ticket validation, but many times, the baristas go out of their way and walk all the way across the plaza to validate it so we can stay the whole night if we wanted to. Second, their drinks are just spectacular. I normally get the Lychee Italian soda or the passion fruit green tea, but I've also tried their lattes, LVTM and VTM (their Vietnamese specialty drinks). All of them are much better than most coffee shops I've been to (and I've been to A LOT). Third, they're right next to the Google office and the area around it is the perfect place for studying, meeting, or even just chilling. I love coming to this place to do work and plan on coming back often! The ONLY thing I wish is better is their store hours. They close at 5, which is really early and most people usually have work til then, which makes it hard to make it. Other than that, I literally have nothing bad to say about this place. This is my absolute favorite & go-to coffee shop. I have almost never ordered anything outside of their house special Iced VTM as half a cup is enough to have me on a caffeinated buzz for the rest of the day with an addictive taste. While all of items on the menu and pastries accompany their drinks perfectly, I'm a huge fan of The CAB (Cream Cheese, Avocado, and Bagel). For those who enjoy this combination but want something less carb-y, I switch it to their country toast/bread instead which is much thinner. The staff is friendly and beyond accommodating which is reflective in their interaction and relationship developed with the customers. I've come to find comfort in working long hours at the shop and observing their attentiveness with everyone and myself. Perhaps my favorite "quirk" in this coffee-shop is that the owner has allowed customers to write on various sections in the store on the walls 1) customized drinks invented by individuals and 2) inspirational quotes. read more

Yes, the coffee here is wonderful and I can't say enough about the cold brew, but don't forget about the food!!! They have a small selection but everything on there is soooo good. The banh mi sandwiches are really good and very generously portioned. The BEST thing is they serve breakfast items ALL day! COFFEE: I tried the Vietnamese coffee when I first visited and it was too sweet for me, so I opted for their lite version when I went back, which was much better. Everything tastes amazing and they had the nicest service I've ever received at a coffee shop! My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to grab coffee before shopping. I was indecisive as always, but the cashier was more than willing to provide samples and to answer any questions. My friend ordered a cold brew and I decided on Thai iced tea. I tried a sample of the cold brew and it was amazing! The barista offered us free pastries and I ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie. I'm not sure where they get their baked goods, but the cookie was amazing. Not too sweet and the chocolate chips were dark chocolate. The Thai tea was a bit too sweet for me so I asked for some unsweetened black tea to mix in and the barista gave me a large cup of it because he felt bad that I didn't like my drink 100% (too kind). That made the drink perfect and they were so nice about it. I was very impressed by their quality of service. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely stop by often. Great atmosphere and friendly employees! Out of the many coffee shops in the area, BLK definitely stands out with their iced VTM drink--much stronger than i had first anticipated! The place itself is rather small--a couple tables plus some counter seating-- but there is outdoor seating as well. Parking can be tough to find during peak hours, since BLK is located within the Google Irvine plaza. They do validate parking for you which is a huge plus. Discovered this place with the help of Yelp. It is indeed a hidden treasure, tucked away in a business complex adjacent to the Google Irvine complex. And because of Google, you get all the benefits of Google like super fast fiber optic internet access! But of course, the crown jewel of this establishment is the coffee, and it doesn't disappoint. My go to is the iced vanilla latte, which is handcrafted and consistent in its flavor and quality at each visit. I tried their signature drink, the LVTM (which is a slow-dripped Vietnamese coffee beverage), which tastes great with the right balance of sweetness and espresso-flavor (The VTM is much sweeter by comparison). They also sell a variety of breakfast and lunch items, including Avocado Toast (thereby legitimizing their place in LA/OC). The store is well kept and clean, with 3 tables and a couch. There is an adjacent outdoor courtyard too. Parking is validated and free regardless of how long you're there (park in the Google Irvine structure). Customer service is fast and friendly.
