I love this place! We see Dr. Ashley Darnell and our whole family can come here. My daughter has Autism and has a thing with "eye balls" and having stuff close to her eyes. Both Dr. Tang and his associate Ashley offer a clean,neat, modern and calm setting. Both are up to date on the latest optics and testing equipment. In addition to eye exams, they sell frames and offer lenses including lenses for frames purchased elsewhere. No hard sell here. They really want you to be happy with your results. We LOVE Dr. Tang! My husband (Mr. perfect 20/20) and I (Mrs. daily glasses or contacts necessary to function) have been seeing Dr.Tang for over 3 years now and we are consistently impressed with his level of expertise and compassionate care. Over the past year Dr Tang has literally been a vision saver for our daughter. Born with a congenital cataract, he has been working with us since literally day one on her visual needs. If you think putting a contact lens in an adult is difficult, try a 3 month old! To say we were overwhelmed would be a massive understatement. But Dr.Tang taught us EVERYTHING; he is patient, supportive, and extremely adept with patients who have challenging visual needs. Dr. Tang is Phenomenal. He has been treating me since he was teaching at UCSF (he still teaches at Berkeley - I don't think he is supposed to advertise that in his private practice, but I will do it for him). I have had a lot of surgery on my eyes (two transplants, etc.) and they are not easy to refract, but Dr. Tang has always been "dead on". Over the years, I have seen some of the best eye doctors in the country (National Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins, UCSF, etc.) and I have never received better care than I have received from Dr. Tang. read more

My checkup with Dr. Tang was great all across the board. The front office is welcoming, with a friendly receptionist, and the exam equipment is state of the art. Dr. Tang himself is a great eye doctor: he asks lots of background questions, not just about medical history but also about my current hobbies and lifestyle to get a sense of how I'm using (and abusing) my eyes. This is a long over-due review. I took my three kids to see Dr. Tang. Previously, we had some horrible experience with another optometrist. I was so glad I found Dr. Tang. He was very thorough, patient and informational. Unlike the other optometrist whom just rushed my kids and quickly finished their exams. Trust me, there are those out there. For my very near-sighted children, having the option to obtain contact lenses is very important to us. I found that many optometrist is reluctant to do so for my children, ages 10 and 11 years old. Dr. Tang, specializes in contact lenses is very knowledgeable and trusts my need as a parent. Dr. Tang is the first doctor I trust since moving to Walnut Creek 12 years ago. He is completely devoted to his patients and handles every step of the care himself. Some would delegate certain tasks to their office staff. Speaking of office staff, Katie is just as wonderful. It wasn't until I saw how much trouble my kids had when getting contacts fitted that I realize why other optometrists didn't want to prescribe contacts for kids. They didn't have the patience nor expertise as Dr. Tang. I highly recommend Dr. Tang's service. He is a wonderful person that cares deeply about his patients. Dr. Tang is one of the gentlest, kindest health care professionals I've ever encountered. He's also very, very serious about doing high quality work, and I'm grateful to have found him. As a new patient with some previous health care traumas, I was truly frightened of going to get my eyes examined. I was afraid of bad news thoughtlessly delivered, but previous Yelpers spoke of Dr. Tang's kindness, so I screwed up my courage and went for a full eye exam. The appointment began with courtesy -- an apology for a tiny delay (5 minutes), hand washing and an explanation of his sanitation practices, and a very gentle interview about my health history. I confessed my fears and he listened carefully, showing the right amount of sympathy without it derailing the work to be done. Then the exam began. At every step, he explained what I should expect, and demonstrated his delight with each good result. He was very thorough, and after each section of the exam was complete, would explain what he had learned. Information was shared in a calm, caring way that reduced my stress to zero. Dr. Tang is now my optometrist for life. On this visit, the news was all good. When the inevitable day comes when a problem emerges, though, I am convinced Dr. Tang will be able to guide me through it with compassion, concern and first-rate care. read more

After reading all of the great reviews for Dr. Tang and Blink Optometric, I decided to go in for my first eye exam in six years. Blink Optometric is one of those end to end experiences that all businesses should aspire to. The call I made to set up my appointment was very pleasant and then when I arrived I was offered a beverage by both the receptionist and assistant at different times. That was impressive attention to customer satisfaction. Dr. Tang is one of the friendliest medical professionals you can find. As soon as you get into the exam room, he immediately walked me through how he was cleaning his hands and all of the exam equipment. He took a thorough history, asked me some things about myself, and tried his best to understand what I needed from my glasses. I was particularly happy that he took my two pairs of glasses to check their prescriptions and realized that one of the pairs (a recent expensive purchase) were not the quality that I assumed they were. I'll definitely get those changed. The actual exam was very thorough. Dr. Tang took the time to explain every single thing he was doing. Even his handling of the glaucoma test was masterful and wasn't unpleasant in any way. Following the exam, he took the time to discuss lens material options with me so that I would be as informed as possible before facing the sometimes manipulative opticians in eye ware boutiques. I'll definitely be returning to Dr. Tang for my next eye exam. I cant recommend his practice enough. read more

Dr. Tang is the best eye doctor I've ever had. In 1998, I suffered scarring on my outer cornea during Lasik surgery. While I didn't lose my eyesight, I couldn't see well out of my left eye. With the expert from Dr Tang, he fitted me with a new contact lens that has substantially improved my eyesight! It was the first time I had any clarity from my left eye in nearly 13 years. In addition to being incredibly competent, Dr. Tang is the consummate professional. He explains and teaches the what and the why behind his exams. He has the best bedside manner and explains everything he's doing during the exam. He is very professional, courteous and super funny. He spent at least 45 minutes with me evaluating everything. The doctor is great. Very attentive and professional. The only reason I'm giving Blink fewer stars is because of the service I received from the receptionists both when I got there and after seeing the doctor. When I first got there and stood at the desk to check in they looked at me as if I was interrupting their conversation. Afterwards when ordering my glasses, one of the ladies simply took my measurements as I was standing up. I wasn't asked to sit down so that she could properly make a fitting. Weeks later when I got my glasses I had asked why the prescription of my glasses had not matched the prescription of the contacts I ordered. Their response was that they would check with the doctor and call me back. No call back. I called them to ask and again they said they would check with the doctor and have him call me. Nothing again. Honestly I don't think it was the doctor who didn't want to call I really think it was probably that they never gave the message to the doctor. read more
