We had a great dinner tonight with McKensie! We were greeted by the bar tender as Soon as we entered, and then promptly greeted by McKensie when we were seated. Water came quickly, and she was around to take our order as soon as we were ready. The wonton appetizer (amazing, btw) came out after a few minutes, then dinner arrived shortly after. We were visited by the manager while we ate (friendly and personable), and our check was brought out minutes after we asked for it. So service was 5 stars, and so was our food! Notorious PIG, burnt ends and brisket were all delicious and moist. The mac n cheese was gobbled up by our teenager and the slaw was a nice combo of creamy and vinegary. We loved it all! read more

Updating my review from four years ago. FOUR YEARS AGO. Food is just a great as ever. This restaurant just continues to get better. The patio they added a few years ago looks so good. I love the fire pit table, many tv's, and the bar (when open). The outdoor space has fans, heaters, plants, all the atmosphere i like to have when dining outside. Also very important is our waitress, Annie, never left us hanging even though we dined outside. This is important when a restaurant offers outdoor dining! Menu items you must try: wontons and corn bake! read more

This was my first time here. I've heard how good it was, but it was better than I expected. Today I had the combo lunch special and choose the 1/4 chicken and burnt ends. I chose the bourbon glazed beans for my side. Everything was delicious. The burnt ends were very tender and flavorful and the chicken was very moist. The service was very prompt, with the perfect balance of attentiveness and leave me alone please. I would highly recommend this place. I will be back read more

If swanky, hipster barbecue spots are your jam, Blind Box may be a good choice for you. Here is my experience: Second times a Charm: We tried coming here last night around 7:30 and the line was nearly out the door. This afternoon was the perfect time to visit with the beautiful weather and minimal crowd. We left just in time before a very large party visited for the K-State/FL Atlantic game. Ready to Party: Speaking of big groups, Blind Box is not a big enough space for large groups during peak hours when it's busy. While we were checking out, staff were getting the back room and part of the dining room ready for the big group coming for the game. For parties and events, this would be the perfect place to host. It may be best to call the manager and inquire for more details. Customer Service: 9.5/10 Kai was our server and she was very sweet and accommodating. She checked on us often and made sure our drinks were good throughout our visit. The only thing she missed was extra napkins but this was not a big deal, as this is something that is often forgotten anyways. Food: 8.5/10 I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. My husband ordered the customer favorite: the Notorious P.I.G. Both of us got a side of fries. The pulled pork had great flavor. Sadly, it was not tender enough for me. My husband said his sandwich did not disappoint and I agree! It was topped with onion straws and they were exceptional! The barbecue sauces had a nice smokey after taste, my favorite being the sweet flavored sauce. The spicy sauce is a slow burn with a major kick that creeps up on you. It definitely would pair well with a sandwich for sure, but not sure how it would taste on ribs. The brownie was decent but it had a little too much chocolate sauce for me. I prefer a nice drizzle but I did appreciate the generous scoop of ice cream. Our total bill was $52 after tip, which is standard for the both of us to eat out. I felt the brownie was overpriced for what it was. Overall: 8.9/10 Blind Box is a solid spot with generous offerings like Easter brunch, a March Madness menu, and happy hour. I see why the Notorious P.I.G. is a customer favorite! Shoutout to the manager who was doing a quick training session with her staff to prepare them for the big rush. I can tell she cares about her staff and what she does and I appreciated the teamwork among them. I look forward to visiting again and spending time out on the patio! read more

Finally got the out blind box BBQ. They have the cutest patio for warmer days and nights. They have quite a bit of seating and easy parking. I was amazed by all the menu items they have. They have a full bar area with unique drinks and flights. We checked out their new restaurant weeks menu. Everything was delicious from the salmon to the wings to the platter. I highly recommend you don't skip dessert, especially the chocolate cake, it was delicious. read more

Great BBQ! First time here and I loved the ribs and onion straws! Ribs were tender and juicy, burnt ends were good, generous portions. Service was friendly, food came out timely. I would go more often if I lived closer! read more

I hired Blind Box to cater a high school reunion for 200 people. Andrew did a fantastic job. He was easy to communicate with, did exactly what we asked of him and the food was outstanding. I told him we would serve at 7:00 PM, but of course, we were running late with a group picture, but it didn't matter. Andrew had been ready to go and was keeping the food hot. He served off of two lines and it went fast. We had plenty of food based on our number and he gave the left overs to us. I highly recommend Blind Box for your catering needs. Andrew is a professional! read more

I am not a person who seeks out barbecue restaurants, so when I find one that has quality food and some diversity of offerings, I enjoy it a great deal. I would have enjoyed trying some of the more unique things like the BBQ wontons, but as our first trip in we wanted to sample the basics and shared a combo. The sides were good, although none stood out. I thought the chicken was a little dry (my brined, smoked chicken is better!) and the brisket came to us cold enough that my friend requested replacement. I thought the St. Louis style ribs were excellent - moist and tender. We were able to sample a bite of the pulled pork, and that was probably the best meat - incredibly moist with no fatty bits. Our pescatarian and gluten free friend was able to find something that she liked and she raved about the salmon salad. We had some excellent cocktails - I love the cool menu of those - and shared a piece of warm carrot cake with a soft cream cheese icing. Pretty solid. Service was incredibly accommodating, as we were 3 scatter-brained, overly tired and hungry diners with lots of questions, and one who tends to be quite demanding. Our waitress handled it like the pro she is. If we're going for BBQ quality only, I think Q39 may still have some better BBQ as a whole, short of my fabulous backyard smoked bird. LOL. I definitely would return to the restaurant to try some other things, and if colleagues are going to insist on barbecue, I'll try to steer us this direction, because I'm going to enjoy the diverse menu, cocktails, and sides more so than many other restaurants. Keep it up, Box! read more

Amazing BBQ across the board. Fabulous meaty and perfectly smoked ribs, delicious burnt ends, and moist and flavorful chicken. All sides were spot on, the beans, slaw, corn, mac, A+++. My son and I came here to celebrate our birthdays and we were not disappointed. The service was fantastic and our meals were incredible. The meat was cooked to perfection. The baked beans were amazing with chunks of brisket. The Mac and cheese was creamy and delightful. My amazing guy & my awesome son with his fabulous girlfriend, went on a group date here. Upon arrival my son & his gf were there sitting at the outdoor dining of BBB. It was mostly well spaced with good lighting & decent furnishings. The staff was very friendly & helpful with the ordering process. We all chose sandwich meals & also an appetizer to start that was quite delicious! Our entrees came out promptly after we ate most of the appetizer. The timing was just right. Our server did check often enough to make sure everything was good. Yes I would certainly recommend those with a love for BBQ to give this restaurant a try! The only thing I would suggest is that you do sample their bbq sauces. There was 3 of them available in original, sweet, and spicy varieties to choose which best fits your taste bud pals. I enjoyed the sweet one because the original was a bit unique to my own palette. Have an enjoyable visit here & a most happy dining experience to all! :) (my sincere apology for this lengthy review) -KK read more

The food and service at blind box are genuinely great. I've always respected the kitchen team and the staffs dedication. One of the managers was incredibly professional, fair, and supportive. Also, the owner clearly cares about the business and people in it. Unfortunately, my experience working here was tainted by the behavior of one female manager who regularly took her insecurities out on other women on staff. Instead of fostering a team environment, she created tension and made it difficult for confident, hardworking women to thrive. It's a shame when poor leadership casts a shadow over an otherwise excellent workplace. Thankfully, the rest of the management and the product itself make the experience worthwhile. read more

One of our favorites, we come here often. Creative chef inspired bbq and sides (the smoked corned beef is a seasonal treat that's awesome). Cocktails are equally good--both traditional and creative. Absolutely a must if you're in KC for BBQ. read more

We had reservations for 1:15 on Mother's Day for that and a birthday. We arrived 10 minutes early and checked in with hostess. At 1:30 we checked and were told they were trying to get a table. Again at 1:35 and 1:40. One member was a week out of surgery and getting a little worn waiting. 1:45 we had a table. And they were keeping the buffet open. Now it gets better. A lady came to the table, apologized for the long wait and they were going to take care of the cost of the 2 buffet charges, and give a free desert to the birthday boy. The food, fantastic. The service was even a little better. They not only covered that part of the bill, they took care of everything but the drinks. The customer service was even better than the fabulous food. read more

Absolutely loved stopping in today! What a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful patio area. Service was so much fun! Kristin is a blast and has wonderful recommendations. We tried out the BBQ nachos - which were beyond delicious. They would of used a little bit more queso but we really enjoyed them. I went for the burnt end sandwich and the sweet potato fries - however I didn't care for the fries and so I got an order of the smoked potato salad (probably my new favorite potato salad ever.....) The sandwich was just the right size with buttery Buns and the BBQ sauce was perfect. Hubs tried the notoriously p.i.g sandwich as a recommendation - it was HUGE. He really enjoyed it. The fries - were just okay. Idk if they're normally cooked like that but I wouldn't probably order them again. We weren't impressed with them. Cute atmosphere - great selection on the menu and great location! read more

The HH menu was a pretty good deal AND the food was fantastic. We were honestly surprised it was so empty but then again, we did start a bit early in the day. We loved everything we got: burnt end Mac and Cheese, shoestring onion straws, BBQ nachos and their pitcher of sangria. The bartender was attentive and sweet, the food was great, and a clean restaurant with a good vibe. Recommend checking them out! read more

I ordered delivery from Blind Box. I have always loved their BBQ and will continue to order from this restaurant. However, the burnt ends tonight had a lot of fat and less meat than in the past. Also, I ordered 2 sides which were both fries. It appeared I had just 1 side of fries. The amount wasn't enough to be considered 2 sides in my container. I feel the quality of my meals are not always consistent as I always order burnt ends. read more

The food is decent when you can get what you ordered made correctly. The customer service when using the "contact us" tab is HORRIBLE. Please note, I do not know what the customer service is like inside the restaurant, as I have only gotten things to go. I love their BBQ Nachos; however, when you get them without cheese, is it really nachos? Their ribs are good, so is the burnt ends, beans...ehhh. BBQ chips are good when they come with BBQ seasoning on them. They sent a coupon to my email; however, it did not work. I emailed them and was told they would get back with me....nope did not happen. Everything is always chalked up to "training issues", but either you do not have anybody training the trainee or it is just an excuse. If you want something different for lunch, I would definitely try the BBQ Nachos as they are the best around, when they come with cheese. read more

The taste was nothing to be excited about. They did something funky with the potato salad. And I had never eaten that kind of bread before. So nothing was really familiar to me on my first visit. The potato salad didn't taste like potato salad and so on. The meat tasted okay. My first time in there and the girl seating people ignored me. I then said Miss I would like a to place an order to go do you have to take out menu? She handed me the menu and turned around and walked off. I stood at the counter where she handed me the menu and a gentleman came up and said can I help you? And I said, no she's helping me. I want to order takeout. He said you're going to have to go over there to the bar if you want to order. I just wonder why she didn't tell me that. The atmosphere was more of a bar than a restaurant. read more

Amazing brisket here at this joint, I'd try it out as soon as you can! The wait staff is amazing!

Ordered two meat dish burnt ends and sliced brisket. Burnt ends were ok, sliced brisket was mostly fat not the flat part of brisket. Cole slaw was inedible. French fries and plate were ice, cold, waiter was just fair. Had to ask bartender to send waiter to us to order. . Bartender upset that we asked him to. Music was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation. Get tried of table credit card reader asking for a tip for crappy experience! Worst bar b q experience I've had in kc. read more

We just walked out of your restaurant after being seated for 20 minutes, a female and male server walking past us several times and never being greeted, never being offered a drink, never having our order taken. The table next to us was served and even given refills. We tried to get their attention and they walked past us. We were so excited to try your place after seeing your menu during restaurant week but sadly you didn't seem to want to serve us. Not sure we will be back, so disappointed. On our way to Bates BBQ, I'm sure they will be more than happy to feed us. read more

I had a horrible hostile experience there yesterday. I felt as if the waitress was angry at us for being there I have no idea why and It just kept getting worse, she didn't ask if we needed anything and when we asked for sauce and things she got more hostile and she would toss things on our table. It got so bad we had to ask for the manager and he switched us to a new server. After that the rude waitress walked by scratched her face and flicked us off while doing it. It was the worst experience at a restaurant we've ever had. I left this review incase it happens to someone else and maybe the owners can see how staff is treating their customers. read more

Blind Box is a go-to for us, and always reliably delicious! (I don't know why my location is San Fran - updating now - we live in Shawnee!) Restaurant week PSA - The "winter greens" course 1 option is the same as the brussels and bacon entree in course 2. It's a cold dish, shredded brussel sprouts salad. I was not informed of this when I ordered, and assumed the brussels dish was a hot dish! My son and I decided to check out brunch. It was super expensive at $32 for adults and $16 for kids. My 10 year old didn't remotely eat his monies worth and I honestly didn't either. We started with some breakfast items. My son liked the bacon and ham, but nothing else. I liked the hash browns and the Benny was delicious. The rest was just eh. The biscuits were dry and the gravy was so salty. We requested one waffle to share and it was sooo heavy and huge. They didn't offer any option other then a large one. If we go back we would stick to the brunch menu or regular menu. It just wasn't worth it to us. read more

The service was 5 stars The food was mediocre 3 stars The location and ambiance 1 star I was definitely expecting the smell of smoke, but when you first walk in you're met with a putrid sewage scent. I thought it would go away, but it just hangs around the air. I almost vomited it was so strong. I couldn't even finish my meal. The location is sketch AF. half of the shopping mall is a run down movie theater. Right next to it is the Blind Box BBQ. The server was super friendly and attentive during our entire stay despite my attention needy children. I ordered the #2 combo. The ribs were hands down the best part of the meal. Very tender, flavorful and juicy. The brisket was an extremely dry couple of pieces of meat with no flavor. They even had sauce on it. Still didn't change the brisket. The chicken was tasty, moist and tender. I honestly wish that it didn't reek of sewage in the restaurant. I've never been to a bbq joint that doesn't smell like wood smoke. It was surreal. UPDATE: I took the food to go because I couldn't sit in the smell of the restaurant. The food (except the brisket) is really good. The chicken and the ribs are probably some of the best flavored bbq I've ever had. Really enjoyed the food. For that I bump my review from 3 to 4 stars. read more

This is upscale-ish barbecue in west Shawnee. The meats are real strong. Good smoke and good texture. The ribs were a little dry, but not outrageous. The smoked sausage and burnt ends could hold their own with anybody in town. Like other local barbecue restaurants, I thought the normal sauce was a little sweet and a little thick. The hot sauce though, had a nice kick. It paired well with the sausage. I thought the sides, while good, could have been a little better. The potatoes in my smoked potato salad were a little hard for being slow cooked. The beans could have used a little more kick. Overall, not bad, but I expected more from an upscale restaurant. Service is excellent. During my visits my server and / or bartender was welcoming, personable and able to give good recommendations and pairings. I'm glad they were there. read more
