Great as always, best burnt ends & corn bake in town. In addition, Evie, our server, did us up right too!!

The server was really nice and friendly. She gave a great recommendation of the Podium Platter. Loved the potato salad! The burnt ends were super tender just the way I like it. There's this fireplace I thought was pretty cool too. read more

Food is excellent and service is even better! Could not recommended enough to someone who wants good bbq

**This review is from an uncommon (but important) perspective, so I understand if not everyone gets it.** The BBQ is great. I've had it several times and really enjoyed it. The patio is great, too. In general, I like the place. Unfortunately, it's hard to trust them after our last experience. We had a significant dairy allergy in our group and that person ordered a small salad with no cheese on it. Not a big deal. But the salad came out with cheese all over it. It happens and we gave them the benefit of the doubt, but asked for a new one. The server was gracious about it and said no problem; she took the salad back and returned a couple minutes later with another salad. Except the chicken on this salad was the exact same chicken from the first one and it was still sprinkled with melted cheese. Trust being gone, we modified the order to be as plain & simple as possible, and we finally found success. To their credit, they took the salad off the bill without us prompting them. I really want to like Blind Box but this was disappointing and we have no plans to go back. read more

Came for RW. Saw they had a Sunday HH, don't see that often. Hubby had cocktail he liked. I had the one NA beer they had, wasn't bad, & was only $3. I had the warm goat cheese salad, was meh. Hubby had burnt end chili, & pork belly to start, both were delicious. I had the maple siracha wings, these were amazing. Would come back for these alone. Hubby had the smoked platter, didn't get a pic, but was amazing. More than enough food for him to have a hefty lunch the next day. Everything was smoked & cooked perfectly. Their sauce was too thick & sweet for me, should have asked for the spicy to try. I had the sea bass for my entree, it was cooked perfectly. Food came out quickly, even though they were slammed. They didn't have the smoked apple dessert, so I had the smoked crème brûlée. Cooked very well, good light smoky flavor. Hubby had the chocolate cake, which was dry & forgettable. Service was very attentive. Will be back. read more

Warm greetings and spicy sauces... We had a great time and yummy food to boot - I had the smoked potato with pulled pork with a side of coleslaw. The variety of sauces gave me the chance to try a new favorite - mustard based tangy goodness. Next trip will be for Sunday brunch - the menu sounds daunting and delish!! read more

We found this place while coming from the park and were pleasantly surprised. The turkey was juicy and the burnt ends were tender. For anyone who likes variety, there are four sauces to choose from: regular, sweet, mustard, and spicy. We will certainly be back to try something else! Sit in Annie's section! read more

Wasn't feeling this place. I came here for Sunday dinner and while the atmosphere didn't disappoint - clean, cozy, TVs throughout the place - the meats were very much less to be desired. I got a combo consisting of burnt ends and brisket, and both were unreasonably dry. The BBQ sauce provided, while not overly sweet and generally good, did not help at all with making them taste better. The sides I got, baked beans and mac-n-cheese were better, but also not that memorable. The final insult was the $11 bread pudding. Good, but very much overpriced. The pluses going for the place were the actual restaurant and service, which was friendly and attentive. I don't see myself making a special trip to visit again, but I wouldn't be opposed to giving it's second try should I find myself in the area. read more

Not the best BBQ by far in or around Kansas City. Food has decent smoke flavor, but the sauce tasted more like a chili sauce. Now let's get to the 1 and only star this place deserves! Over priced for portions you get. I mean seriously! My wife purchased a podium platter dinner for me, consisting of brisket and burnt ends. The lunch was $11 dollars, but since my wife knew I wanted a second side, the waiter or waitress advised to get the dinner. It supposedly comes with more meat and two sides! Well, judging by the pictures you can see came with two sides, but where the heck is the MORE meat? I had two thoughts when I opened the box, 1. My wife playing a joke on me and 2. This place gave me someone's doggy bag! Well, truth is this is the not so good $16.00 meal! Yep, I called the manager, well I hope it was, but anyway he was gracious enough to say he will refund my money, to be verified later. He asked me to come it to see how to resolve the problem. Well for me, first impressions are everything and the restaurant failed. Only way to rectify this, increase portion or reduce price! read more

It's odd to lead a review of a barbecue place with a mention of their bar program, but it was just that good. Great drinks, great selection. Likely the best whiskey and cocktail menu I've seen at a Kansas City barbecue spot. There's a lot I quite like about Blind Box. The meats and sides were tasty and well cooked, the service was good, and it was a solid overall experience. But there's one point of divergence for me, as someone writing in this land of luxuriant barbecue plenty: sauce. If you like Gates' sauce, you'll like the sauce here. I don't like Gates' sauce. Is it the vinegar/pickle quality to it? I don't know, and I lack the vocabulary to accurately describe it. Other people will be all over it. But if I have a preference, I'd choose another sauce. Is it bad form to bring your own? Respectably ambitious menu that offers something for just about everyone. The meats were wonderfully tender. The rustic decor is a little odd for the strip mall setting, but I get what they're going for. They may just want to double down on it so it feels more immersive. Or scale it back and embrace the concrete setting. In between it's fine as is, but there's room for some growth there given the obvious thought, care, and quality that has gone into everything else. Overall, and bearing in mind value (I get it, running restaurants is expensive), it's a good 4-star place that would be superlative in just about any other city. Many thanks to the team for their great work. read more

We were there on Sunday evening, July 11. My student group met up with another group of student leaders. So together, we formed a large party of 16. Our server was fantastic and helpful. The food was amazing. For an appetizer, we had the wontons. Put on trace, most of us had some combination of burnt ends and brisket or pork. It was all fantastic! read more

We came for lunch after an estate sale for a good friend. We enjoyed our burnt ends and the Lil Juicy sandwich! Homemade ranch dressing was outstanding! $2 upcharge if you sub burnt ends on your 3 meat dinner without telling us. Beware! Bartender doesn't seem to like her job. Our server, Georgie, was nice but a little overwhelmed. read more

We went for restaurant week yesterday. I would be amiss if I didn't explain the extent of exquisite flavor we found in our food! I ordered the BBQ Wontons for my starter and burnt end Mac and cheese for my meal. The wontons were nothing short of amazing! Mac and cheese with brisket contained in a won ton wrapper and fried and drizzled with siracha. Who would have known such a thing could bring me such joy? Burnt ends on top of the Mac and cheese were tender, juicy and superb. Mac and cheese very good. So highly recommend this place!!! read more

Wonderful staff. They helped us right away. The service was so quick. I ordered the burnt ends with Mac and cheese and fries. My boyfriend ordered The Carolina. The pulled pork was beautifully cooked and that coleslaw was amazing. They have two other sauces. One mustard based that was delicious! Ask for it. Well worth trying. The burnt ends were cooked very well. They know their bbq here. I will definitely be coming back. Glad I tried this place. read more

I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Blind Box BBQ. We started with the BBQ nachos which were amazing, hands down my favorite of the night. There are a lot of nachos you can easily share with 4 people. I ordered the belly burger with onion straws. I really liked the onion straws but wish there was a dipping sauce for them. The burger was delicious and juicy. I did have a bite of some ribs, which were okay. I really like the sausage too. I also recommend trying the smoked potato salad, it's very good and a nice break from plain potato salad. I wish we could have down dessert, but I was SO stuffed from dinner. Overall I had a great time and the staff was supper attentive and friendly! read more

Favorite Kansas City bbq: I wish they were located closer to me. This place is seriously amazing and you wont regret eating here! The servers are going but extremely friendly and competitive! I ordered sausage, burned ends box that came with brand and fries. The portion size was was very generous, enough for two people to share. I wish I would have known this, however I was very happy to take home leftovers. The meat and bbq sauces were great that I can't up the opportunity to visit again! read more

The burnt ends were delicious. Large portions. Nice atmosphere. Our waitress was very patient.

My husband and I decided to try out a new place for happy hour and turns out this is one of the best happy hours we have ever had ! The BBQ nachos were the best nachos I have ever had and the BBQ wontons were delicious as well! We both enjoyed them so much! Not to mention the amazing drinks were so good and all their specialty cocktails were 6 bucks during happy hour ! Jordan at the bar was very knowledgeable regarding all the different types of drinks and full of great conversation! The food was good too, we got the Combo 1 box to go and it was the perfect amount of us when we got home since we had already had food at the happy hour! I highly recommended this place for happy hour and dinner! The people were great and the atmosphere is very chill and welcoming ! We will be back soon! read more

Well darn it, we found another favorite BBQ place in KC. I grew up here and visit on occasion, usually stick to my faves. Blind Box is now on the list. The sliced brisket had a perfect hint of smoke, moist, and flavor. The burned ends were the same. We rarely find bbq beans to our liking but these hit the spot! Could be a little less sweet and more spicy, but who am I? The chef? Kudos to those in the kitchen! read more

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience today. We went for Restaurant Week, and everything started fine. However, once we put our order down, our service was extremely poor. We first asked for a side of ranch, which she never came back with. When she checked on us almost 10 minutes later, we asked about the ranch and she made an excuse that they were looking for it after the brunch buffet. She came back with it shortly after. Then she never returned to refill our waters-had to go to the bar to get some more. About 20 minutes later, we flagged down another server to get leftover boxes and check on our dessert. Our server came over and left our check before we even got our desserts. The bread pudding was cold and chewy and when we said something about that, she didn't even really respond. Manager never came to check in on things....other servers seemed to be attentive to their tables so not sure where ours kept disappearing to. At least the bbq was good. read more

Disappointing, the food (Combo Plate) was just okay. Service was good and the atmosphere fine.

Blind Box BBQ burned a hole on my bookmark list for too long, I finally had to pull the trigger and make the drive out for it. It definitely didn't disappoint, and my first time here has me thinking about another visit. New BBQ places used to scare me. I didn't always like trying BBQ in new cities because I had a loaded chamber full of KC pride and didn't want to hear it from any other cities (thankfully I've gotten over that). I only indulge in BBQ every so often, so for the longest time that meant hitting the long running classics around town. Ever since some strong new contenders have opened up, it's totally changed my paradigm about new BBQ and made me eager to venture out to try it, even if it's a ways away in Shawnee. Met up with fellow Yelper Brent B. to explore this spot on a sunny summer day. The special of the day was a smoked Cuban sandwich with smoked ham, pulled pork and a heaping side of fries. Being huge Cubano fans, we each ordered it and I really enjoyed it. The pulled pork had the best flavor on the sandwich, whereas the ham was good but had a slightly more 'sliced lunch meat' quality to it. I like thick, Easter like ham when I can get it. The fries were off the charts, and especially good with their housemade sauce. The sauce is dark, and when poured out it resembles Arthur Bryant's. The flavor is totally different than Bryant's however; smoky, light and delicious. I typically like to start with burnt ends as a measuring stick but that lunch special was too good to pass up. Next time I'll take a more traditional BBQ dive in and see how they do it. read more

Nope nope nope. Guess how much each one of these sides cost. It's cool I will wait..... $3 and $4. You can go to capital grill and get more for your buck. Let's get into this "competition" bbq. What competition are they referring too? What competition style do you leave all this fat on? What about rub? They don't even let the meat sit in a beef broth just throw in microwave and dry it out and serve. People this is Kansas City. One of the top places for BBQ in the world. Let's not keep up this "cause it's convenient" it's good mentally. Would love to sit with the owner blindly order some food and let him taste what I do and see if with a straight face that this is worthy of selling. Onion straws are great!!! read more
