Went to @blazebangor for dinner on Tuesday with a friend after being kindly sent a gift card from the restaurant general manager. I wanted to give the restaurant another chance and boy was it a great decision. I started with the poutine (not pictured) and was so satisfied. Such a large portion and the gravy is so decadent, very onion forward and thicker than most found on poutine. Their fries are some of the best around, super crispy and nicely fried. I had the steak and cheese as my main (pic 1) and it was quite tasty. The meat was a little on the drier side but the cheese sauce and roasted peppers made up for it. The roll didn't get soggy like many do in a cheesesteak. My friend got the taco special which had pork belly and she loved it. They have a Taco Tuesday deal which is a set of two tacos plus fries and a margarita for $20, an absolute steal in my opinion for the quality. Really enjoyed my visit. My wife and I ate here before a local concert and, based on the reviews, we were excited to try it. Unfortunately, our experience was pretty underwhelming. I have been very sympathetic to the staffing issues as a result of COVID the past few years and have overlooked some subpar service at restaurants due to that but this experience felt different. We were seated promptly and then waited at least 30 minutes without water or any visit from a member of the waitstaff. They were definitely busy, but what was frustrating was the fact that all the tables around us were being served fairly promptly. Frustration set in as I watched groups who arrived 20-25 minutes after us enjoying their second cocktails and appetizers while we sat at a completely blank table. I finally asked the hostess if we a had a waiter. That seemed to jumpstart the process... I still waited another 15 minutes for a single beer. Finally, as we watched groups that came in after us, finish and new groups get seated, we finally got our food. Unfortunately, that experience wasn't much better. My wife got a steak crostini which consisted of 4-5 pieces of small baguette slices topped with very overcooked steak.. pretty dismal for $19. I ordered a brisket sandwich...the description in the menu was a far cry from the product. The four slices of brisket on the sandwich consisted of two that were like dry leather. The advertised fried onions, BBQ sauce and cheese consisted of unrecognizable crumbles, a dry bun, and a tiny square of cheese I had to search for. The accompanying duck fat fries were tiny, soggy pieces that seemed as if they were the last serving of the night. I will not be coming back. read more

If I could give no stars I would. This place isn't very vegetarian friendly. Anything fried is cooked in duck fat. If you are looking forward to a certain dish call and make sure that have the ingredients no matter if it is at 11 or 1pm. We ordered the southwest salad chicken on the side. I got lettuce and a small plastic container of half filled what they said was Pico de Gallo. Wood fired corn or an extra pico. Just lettuce. By the way it took 40 minutes and there wasn't that many people there. I guess putting lettuce on a plate takes a while. Big fail!!! read more

Don't be fooled about the hangover chicken like I was. I thought there would be at least one piece of buttermilk fried chicken. Instead it was just a few small cubes in a mountain of potatoes. I spent the meal looking for ones I might have missed. And of course the batter fell off because the chicken was cut up. Finally I mentioned this to our server who offered me more gravy? The burger was juicy and flavorful without being overwhelmed with too much sauce. For me the bun is also an important aspect and the brioche bun was just want I wanted. The fries were crispy and full flavored. There were some hiccups in the service. I had to ask for utensils and a napkin after being seated for a while. I would give it 3 & 1/2 stars. The atmosphere is great - slightly more upscale compared to many places in Maine. The pork belly lollipop appetizer came out quick & was DELISH!!!! App is plenty big to share with 3-4. However the waitress was less than attentive & we had an extremely long wait for our entrees. The haddock fish tacos had WAY too much cold slaw on it, a mountain compared to the skinny strips of yummy haddock, very over powering - I scraped a pile off. It was only OK. The duck fat fried French fries were yummy. My husband loved his duck breast dinner. I tried a bite as well - melt in your mouth, so good! Overall after dropping nearly $80 w/out any drinks - we were underwhelmed. We returned to give Blaze another try last Sat. Feb. 22nd, 2020 - based on how amazing the pork belly lollipops were. We came in famished, looking forward to those & trying out a couple other dishes. The pork belly lollipops were completely burned on one side... rock hard, dried out - couldn't chew a 1/2" or thicker layer. The waitress brought another batch - but it was the exact same experience. Sadly the meals were equally over cooked - hubby ordered a buttermilk chicken breast sandwich and the coating was dark brown, over fried and the chicken fried out - he only ate a couple bites and stopped. My chicken tacos were made with the same way over cooked, dark brown, hard as a rock, dried out chicken pieces.... inside what was supposed to be soft taco shells but was so over "warmed" they were rock hard cracker like & inedible. I was hungry so picked away at the "insides" - after striking out w/2 rounds of the app and BOTH are meals horrifically bad - we didn't bother trying to send them back. The waitress (who was very kind & attentive & received her full tip on the entire original order, as it wasn't her fault the kitchen staff was terrible) took the app & hubby's meal off the check... honestly shouldn't have had to pay for mine - but I just wanted to leave,.. We hit Chick-Fil-A on the way back to the hotel and had a 10x better meal.... VERY DISAPPOINTING for our anniversary dinner we were looking forward to. We won't be back. read more

We chose to share the "Hangover Cure" which was home fries, scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, buttermilk fried chicken, and most importantly to me, sausage gravy. The bad, the chicken was burnt and lacking (though had some good seasoning), there were only a few bites of egg, and the rest was potatoes. My boyfriend and I were in town for a trip with our dogs. This place showed up on Fido. We called ahead to reserve an out door table for our dogs and I'm glad we did as the place was busy for a Thursday night. My boyfriend and I both got burgers..he got the duck burger. Both were delicious! Blaze had an extensive drink menu if you're into that...however, we passed on this. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is good here and my wife like their sours, but over $100 for two small pizzas and two four packs of canned beer is ridiculous. A lovely evening at Blaze. It's located in the historic downtown area of Bangor. Parking is not super readily available and Fridays and Saturdays are very busy. We opted for bar seating and had bartender Phi taking care of us. I ordered a flight, which I often do. Such a huge variety! So many local craft beers on tap. The food was delicious too. Thanks to fellow Yelpers' reviews, I ordered the haddock tacos. They did not disappoint. A really nice spice rub on the fish and fresh mango salsa. Hubby got a wood-fired pizza, for which Blaze was known. Very good crust and yummy sauce and plentiful toppings. I'm taking one star off, and being super picky here, because of the actual menu. I found it very hard to read - font is very small and the dim lighting made it hard to read, and I have 20/15 vision. Having said that I would highly recommend Blaze to anyone in the Bangor area. We will definitely be back if we are ever back in the area. read more

This quickly became my go-to spot. Located next door to the Charles Inn, the prices are reasonable and the seafood is fantastic! Fai,my bartender, and Eva, a worker from another location, was very helpful in letting me know which places would likely be open on Monday (turns out, not a lot). 9am to 9pm. I could smell the wildfires shrimp from my window so it's difficult to resist. The steak tacos were toasted perfectly and had amazing flavor. Hats off to the chef! Great local and Blaze branded beers you can buy to take home and they offer a wide selection of cocktails and drinks - non and alcoholic beverages. Try the shrimp! Try the steak tacos! Try anything! It's awesome and i look forward to returning here again soon!! We don't have seafood this fresh in Texas The waitstaff practiced good practices with wearing masks and the place wasn't too crowded (although this is posted during Covid). I would highly recommend this place and especially this location. Great outdoor seating, bar seating and table seating. Very cozy atmosphere. Plenty of bar seating in very comfortable chairs! They were open on the 4th of July when not much was open in Bangor. The food was great and it was a perfect evening for eating on the patio. They were very busy (since they were one of the few places open) and it took a few minutes to get seated, but I don't count that against them. Our waitress came quickly to get our drink order and offered several suggestions. My husband settled on their fresh made pizza which I picked the pork belly lollypops and the french fries cooked in duck fat. All of the food was excellent. I understand we missed some historical things by not taking a look inside. Being from Texas we really enjoyed being able to have a very pleasant experience eating outside on the 4th. But i think this place is more known for the brewskis, of which i had none. so take my review with a grain of salt. Place was BUSY on a saturday night. This wonderful pizza and burger joint in downtown Bangor was exactly what our family needed after a long road trip through the mountains of New England. My BBQ Chicken Pizza was delicious, particularly when paired with a craft beer from Blaze's HUGE selection of drafts from across the state. The menu also includes burgers, sandwiches and salads -- and even specialty tacos. Service was fantastic, prices reasonable, and there's ample seating inside and out. Blaze also has restaurants in Bar Harbor and Camden, offering a fabulous alternative when you're ready for a break from lobster and Haddock. But the beer selection alone is enough to get me back -- in our weeklong visit to Maine, it was absolutely the best draft list I came across. Highly recommended! read more

We loved this place. The food was excellent as was the service. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and were immediately seated. Our server promptly arrived and asked us if if wanted any appetizers and drinks. We ordered a couple of beers from their great local beer selection and received them pretty quickly. Stopped in for lunch and was very glad we did! Blaze has several locations and so I had great expectations for the food and service. I was not disappointed. Ordered a beer and the bar tender was very helpful in finding a beer I would enjoy - a larger, reasonably priced especially for Bar Harbor. We ordered lunch, the fish and chips with coleslaw. I have started asking for the fries on the side as restaurants place the fish on top of the "chips" - fries here and then they are soggy. Not sure why all the restaurants do this but I am particular about my fries and the server was happy to place my request with the kitchen. The fish and chips arrived - huge pieces of fish cooked to perfection and a huge plate of fries, nice and crispy with a side of coleslaw! We enjoyed our meals and cannot wait to go back and try other items on the menu. The burgers coming out of the kitchen were generous and looked delicious. Blaze is a comfortable, casual restaurant (don't worry that you spent the day at the beach) that has great background music that allows for a conversation at your table. I consider the prices of the food and drink to be on par with other restaurants with similar offerings. The restaurant area and restrooms were clean and comfortable. We stopped in for my husband's birthday last week - ordered two burgers and duck fat fries. While the burgers were good - cooked as we like (rare), and the fries were nice and crispy - the burgers was just "good..." We did not roll our eyes back in ecstasy or anything. The garlic aioli was really good - and the buns were also tasty - nice brioche which stood up to the lovely, gooey egg on the burger. I think the egg was my favorite component of the plate. The plates that the burgers were served on were small - so small that food kept falling off of the sides - which was a pain, especially because you have to put your own toppings on your burger. The server kindly brought us two more (tiny) plates to catch our overflow. Now, I ordered a single, 5 oz glass of the house Chardonnay. I was shocked to find a $10 charge on my bill - extremely overpriced. It wasn't swill, but as a wine drinker, I can tell you that it was not worth it. I did not try the pork belly lollipops, but I did see a plate of them pass by and they looked really delicious. I will definitely order those the next time we visit. Overall, our experience was good - during this Covid time (January 2021), the atmosphere inside was a little cold - but we expected that and are hoping to return when the place is jumping again. read more

What more can I say... This place is awesome!!! In town on business and this is probably my 4th or 5th time here. Great beer selection and the food is fantastic too. My wife and I had a disappointing experience at Blaze. First, my wife's lobster dish was unavailable because the restaurant had no lobster (in Maine? Really?). Then, a few minutes after ordering the server returned to the table to tell me the item I'd ordered was no longer available for ordering - but the menu hadn't been updated to reflect this. Finally, when our meals arrived my food was barely warm, as if it had been cooked in advance, refrigerated, then not fully heated up before being served. My wife's meal was good. When my replacement food arrived it was very good, and I'd like to compliment our server - she was very apologetic, my meal was removed from the bill, and her patience with the restaurant errors during the meal was excellent. But we are unlikely to visit Blaze again in the future. read more
