When she showed up with her crew -- including her son (who I swear looks like Cam Skattebo Big 12 Champion from the ASU Sun Devils) and her husband -- they got right to work. Drained the pool, gave it a chlorine bath, scrubbed everything, and balanced the chemicals. The pool looks incredible now. But what really stood out? As I came outside to greet them, Jaime kindly reminded me to keep my 5-month-old mini Maltese Shih Tzu inside because of the chlorine they were about to apply. That kind of attention to detail and care for both the pool and my pup's safety really meant a lot. She also gave me a great, competitive quote on a new Hayward cartridge filter to replace our ancient 40-year-old sand filter -- and didn't pressure me at all. Don't think he realized I was working from home and was able to observe the entire process (not once did he ever come to the site). And he does everything verbally so you have no leg to stand on and cannot prove that you agreed to something completely different than what you ended up getting. The only written thing that is done between you and Terry is that you agree to a certain dollar amount before the work is performed. The rest of the contract is verbal so it can change multiple times if you question anything. My bad for automatically trusting him because he was brought to my property by a pool company. Long story short, if you run into a "hard dig" situation (which is where I had a separate contract with Terry from the pool company "to save me money"), stop work and get quotes. And if you must work with Terry Stevens and Five Point Excavating, get a written contract so you can hold him to something.

They are pricey at $1,267 but a three year old federal law will not let you replace a pool motor that goes bad with a $300 replacement motor. (Like me, I'll bet many pool owners are not aware of this.) I checked around and prices were the same with other pool companies. Those companies did not have valid contractor licenses with the state. For a price over $1,000, Arizona law requires that the work be performed by a licensed contractor. I went on www.azroc.gov which is for the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and through a search there found Always Clean. The installation was great and it took him a little over two hours including the training of how to use the computer system it has. You can spot a true professional by how accurately they can perform a repair or install task. Also, they can troubleshoot any existing problems with ease. Todd made it look easy. There is no way that I could have done it. When your kids or grandkids swim in a pool you want absolute safety. Hiring a licensed contractor is worth it.
