11/19/2017 I first heard of this place from an event that they hosted. My daughter and I came here because it sounded like it would be fun and interesting. NOT!! We should have left when I noticed that we were the only ones there! One other person showed up, but she left after waiting for awhile for the event to start. We listened to several people speak about: how to color a picture/apply make-up and eyebrows. The eyebrow person wanted to "fix" my eyebrows and I ended up with shaved eyebrows that I never asked for. I guess there was a communication issue... I guess. I said I was okay with her doing my eyebrows, but I NEVER consented to her shaving them. It's been almost a month now since that horrible incident, and my eyebrows haven't grown back in yet, only a few hairs here and there. Now I have to spend extra time in the AM getting ready for work just to deal with doing my eyebrows. What a nightmare!! Thank goodness I saved my daughter from the same nightmare. That eyebrow person was about to shave off a little of her eyebrow also!! WTH!!! Can you imagine what that would have been like dealing with a teenager and a shaved eyebrow?!?! I got an email from Josephine (owner of the shop), but no solution so far on my brows. I did get a free appointment to have my eyelashes done, but I'm afraid to go in case I lose those also. My daughter said I shouldn't go, even if it's free lash extensions. I think she's right...... read more

By FARRRR one of the best places to go to get purteeeed up -- not just in Pas but in LA! I've been to plenty of these lash salons that are popping up left and right but Novalash is def one of the better lines to use and she's got it perfected -- particularly for Asians -- super natural and easy to maintain I've had other places do a good job but I've also experienced some discomfort in the past from others nova "experts" that seem to rush through the process just so they can move onto their next client. It's like, yes, of course my eye would water n twitch if I can feel u tugging on mine. I don't think ive ever felt discomfort here. Actually, I know I haven't cause I sometimes even fall asleep while she's working on me Hahaaa First time coming here I was able to see the back to back diff of the weight(circumference?) of each placement and these are far lighter (less weight on each of ur naturals) and gives a fuller look. However, as you can choose the style of the look you're going for, you can also let her know if ur looking for a more dramatic/less "everyday" look and I'm sure she'd accommodate. Also decently easy to sched appts since I just book mine in advance before coming back and payment can be processed online at which point it's confirmed. Total cake and def worth waking up looking gorg every morning ;) read more

Blankstein's Beauty & Style - The new set up. So cute! - Makeup Artists Near Me - Pasadena, California

Josephine is the absolute best at eyelash extensions. The first time I came in, she sat with me on the couch for a few minutes asking me about what I like/dislike, if I have a history with extensions, and other small talk. As it turns out, she chats with you so that she could figure out how your eyes/head move as you talk-- this helps her figure out what kind of eyelashes (length and thickness) to recommend. Furthermore, she fully explains everything that she does and answers all questions honestly. She uses an incredibly strong, safe glue and I can honestly say that the eyelash extensions here are the best I've ever had. I've tried 3 other locations prior to this. You could rub your eyes and none of them come off! When the lashes do come off, your own real ones don't. The first time took about 2 hours, which is pretty lengthy. The refills following take about an hour. read more

I got my eyelash extensions done here. Josephine is awesome. I loved it! The entire experience was great. I've gotten eyelash extensions done before and Josephine by far is my favorite. The place is on the second floor inside of a building. I love the beautiful decor of this place, it was very soothing and made me feel relaxed. The service itself can take about 2 hours from start to finish. This varies somewhat, based on how many lashes you already have. Unlike other eyelash specialists, Josephine attaches lashes to just about EVERY lash you have. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. She walked me through the entire process of what she was doing. This made me feel very comfortable. After the extensions had been applied, she taught me how to care for them. This was surprising since no one else has taken the time to explain these things to me before. I instantly received compliments from my boyfriend and friends. I love how they make my eyes look defined. They're easy to manage. I don't have to curl my eyelashes or wear mascara to get that same effect now that I have these extensions. It's been a couple weeks and my eyelashes still look great. I definitely would recommend her to everyone. Her prices are reasonable and at the end of the day the results speak for themselves. read more

A hidden gem in Pasadena. The entire team is professional with great attention to detail. Josephine, the owner, is passionate about helping women look and feel their best. This is evident in her customization of procedures, the selection of the highest quality tools and products, and her commitment to true artistry. While I would love to keep this place a secret, I highly recommend them. I know first-timers might feel hesitant with semi-permanent makeup (I felt the same). You will be in good hands here. read more

I love when people take the extra care to create an oasis out of their workplace. Blankstein's isn't just a place to get your beauty services done, it is a place where you can go to relax and hang out with your girlfriends completely ensconced in a cozy but glamorous little slice of girlfriend heaven! I first discovered Blankstein's when joining in on a Paint night event for my gf's birthday. Proof of attention and care to the little things, is that we were painting Chanel bottles and Josephine(the owner) went around and spritzed Chanel perfume over all the girls. What a great touch! Josephine is attentive, knowledgeable and sweet! She is a true artist and I can't wait to come back for some beauty services, that all my girlfriends rave about! read more

josephine takes such great care of you! she's beautiful, diligent, and extremely knowledgeable. Not only is she someone that you can wholeheartedly trust with her skill, but her products are also of the highest quality. I've had my eyelashes done at many different places and one thing to know for sure is that you pay for what you get! Josephine's mink lashes are gorgeous, soft and NEVER irritable! They have never made my eyes water, I am able to wash my face regularly, and treat them like normal lashes! So many places give you restrictions on how to work around your lashes, but the only answer she gave me when I asked about it was to just treat them as my own. Its been weeks since I've gotten them and they still look stunning. I'm a person with really bad habits and I tend to rub my eyes and touch my face a lot, but doing so hasn't prevented the lashes from falling either (or course, I say this with a grain of salt, I don't INTENTIONALLY rub as hard as I can to see if they fall off :) I would not hesitate to come back! Josephine, you're a goddess!!! read more

I was interested in getting lash extensions because a few friends had been doing it, and I found a Groupon for Blankstein's. They had amazing reviews on Yelp, so I picked it over another place that was closer to my house. That first day, I sat down with Josephine (main artist and owner) and we talked about what I wanted to do - she showed me the different looks, "natural, "eye opener", "cat eye" etc, and went over expectations of maintenance. I'm a healthcare provider, and I wanted lashes that weren't too crazy, but still allowed me to look good while spending as little time as possible getting ready in the morning. And plus I figured that if I didn't like the maintenance of it (no oil-based makeup or eye products), it was still worth a try with the Groupon discount. And now, SIX months later, I guess I am a little obsessed! I've been consistently getting them refilled every 2-3 weeks, and I switched over to Joyce, the other main artist, due to her schedule being more suitable to mine (she's there on Saturdays). Both Josephine and Joyce are absolutely wonderful; they really make you feel comfortable, they are super detailed and meticulous with their work, and they really care about your satisfaction. There was one time when my lashes fell out super quickly after a session, and I contacted Joyce about it, and she immediately scheduled me to come in and redid them for me, no extra charge. She also pays attention to how my own natural lashes behave - she'll put lighter, shorter extensions if my own lashes seem to be starting a new growing cycle and are more fragile. So if you're looking to get extensions, definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it. I'm even considering having them do my lash extensions for my wedding so I don't have to deal with fake lash strips that might peel off ;D. read more

I was referred to Blankstein's for my wedding day! Josephine and her sister Elizabeth did the hair and makeup for me, my mom and three bridesmaids. They are very professional, friendly and fun!! I booked close to my wedding day and they were able to fit me in for a trial the week before. Their studio is located on the second floor next to the carpet store and is very cozy and inviting. Being decorated in shades of pink (my favorite color!!) was an added bonus and I was treated to some delicious tea. Josephine and Elizabeth were on time on my wedding day. They had provided a detailed schedule for hair and makeup the day prior, so that was very helpful. Everyone loved their hair and makeup and we received many compliments!! Josephine also does facials and eyelash extensions, so I'm sure I'll be booking another appointment soon! read more

I have Blankstein as my stylist for both my professional and maternity photo shoots. Blankstein has world-class technique and skills, and she is familiar with many different makeup application styles as well as hairstyles. With her experience in the entertainment industry, it isn't just make-up that Blankstein applies, she also applies confidence; it results in something quite rare, and also makes Blankstein's work one of a kind. Blankstein is very sweet and easy to work with, she took the time to learn about me and what my preferences were to come up with the best results. Even if you're not sure what style you are looking for, she can give you expert advice based on her years of experience. And her studio is in Pasadena, CA, on the second floor of a building, very cute and clean. I would definitely recommend Josephine Blankstein, if you are looking for a stylist who is fun, reliable, and with a lot of experiences, Josephine Blankstein will be your top choice. I definitely will book Josephine Blankstein for future events. read more

Searching for a stylist in Taiwan, I was referred to Josephine by my photographer's friend since I was about to get married here in the states. Boy, was I glad she knew someone in the USA! Josephine's studio is in Pasadena, CA. Fortunately my then-fiancee knew the area quite well since... he's born and raised in Pasadena. I flew in the week of my wedding from Taiwan and immediately went to visit Josephine. She was very friendly and professional. We talked about simplicity and making things easy - the make-ups and the hair that is. She also styled my then-fiancee's hair on the spot to see what he would look like on our big day. The whole process took about less than an hour. On our wedding day we went to her studio early morning. She worked with extreme care and professionalism that I can tell she really enjoys working with people. She made my wedding party comfortable, relaxed and fun throughout the process. At the end, she followed us to the church where the wedding is held and again put on the finishing touch on my maid-of-honor, the bridesmaid, mother of the groom, and the groom himself. Everyone, including my husband made comments of how beautiful I was and it made my day special. Josephine even stayed until the wedding was over which I was quite surprised. She made sure I was picture perfect even after the wedding. She gets my absolute high review rating that I'd give a 10 out of 10 stars! read more

I did my first lash experiences at here, and it was a very nice experience for me. I took a Groupon deal and made an appointment at phone. Josephine, the owner, gave me very helpful information about what I should know before I came. The location is not very obvious, but It is still can be found easily. It's located at the second floor of a building on Colorado Blvd, the entrance is beside a massage shop. The place is very charming and comfortable, which made me very relax. Before we started, Josephine talked with me for a while. She is really nice, patient, and professional. She asked me which style I preferred and explained the differences between various lash types, and also gave me some helpful suggestions, so I could fully learn about which one would suit me the best. The whole process was very relaxing, I barely felt any discomfort. I even got a nap :-) Again, it was really a nice experience for me, and I like my new lash style so much! Definitely I will come back again! read more

My sister and I have been going to Josephine for various services in the last 1 year. My sister took her make up classes last summer. It includes how to choose the right skin/make up products, 10min speed make up, red carpet make up, and etc. Josephine is very professional and shows each person how to bring up their unique figures. The classes are fun, informational, and lots of laughters! I also did a few painting class at Josephine's studio. She invited another painting instructor to teach the class. She often assisted the flow of the class and made everyone feels like home. During the class, I learned to to mix different colors. The instructor would give you personal attention on your drawing. I enjoyed the painting class and created beautiful drawings to bring home. Lashes extension is another specialty that Josephine is excellent at! I have tried many places in the area and I strongly recommend her! She is gentle when she works on your lashes and she makes your eyes look beautiful and natural. She uses good products and my eyes won't feel irritated or any discomfort. She does amazing job! There are many things to share about Josephine. My sister and I went to get our hairs done at her studio for my sister's bachelorette party. She listened to what we want and made us look very beautiful. This new location is spacious and has good vibe. I like her new place! :) read more

I've been getting lash extensions off and and on for several years and this is, by far, the best place I've been to. Josephine is a consummate master artist in every sense of the word; the salon (newly relocated) is a lovely space : clean, bright, warm and inviting. Her additional services at the salon also include hairstyling (think updo's and party hair), high end makeup, and a variety of "etiquette" classes. This is not the rock bottom cheapest place, but the quality shows in both appearance and the time your lashes will remain beautiful. They last and last. Josephine is always accommodating in terms of scheduling, and she takes her time to get it right. I've never had the burning or red eyes I've gotten from other salons. This has become the ONLY place I go to. read more

It's pretty unique place for family and friends to hang out and building experience of creativity. Me and my girl friend took our family had few times paint and sip workshop here, all instructors are so patient on every each attendant, they not just demo how to paint to make student follow, they try to walk to each student's artwork correcting the color, adjust balancing, even shows tips one on one. And we won't worry another cost to order drinks here, bring your own bottle drink kinda easy to control our budget. Really recommend anyone who looking for a place to paint and relax. read more

Having Josephine do my make up for my wedding was an investment I was so proud of myself for making. Before the wedding, I had given her some pictures of the look I wanted, and on the day of, not only was her execution on point, it was more than what I had imagined. She was professional, knowledgeable, gentle, supportive, and she knows exactly how to use her skills to help you achieve the look you want for your special day. Even before I met her, just talking to her on the phone and listening to her advice on how to prep my skin and face before my big day, I could tell she was someone who really cared and is passionate about what she is doing. She doesn't just show up, she plans, prepares and asks questions to make she understands your vision so she can make it happen for you. And knowing that gave me so much peace of mind and comfort. On the day of my wedding, she was on time and even brought a professional make up light stand to make sure everything was colored and blended perfectly. She understands lighting and photography so she isn't just making sure you look great in person, but also on camera. Through out the process, she would check in to make sure I was comfortable and satisfied with the work, and also give me her professional advise when I wasn't sure so I could make decisions. She did my hair, my face, my eyelashes, and even helped me with my dress! By the end of the whole process, I was so excited because she completely transformed me and made me feel so glamorous and beautiful! It had my mom, aunties, and bridesmaids gasping when they saw me. I has such a great experience with Josephine that by the end of it, I was sad to see her go. You would think being stuck to a chair for hours being fussed over by a stranger would be awkward... But it wasn't. Cuz she's awesome. read more

I have always wanted eyelash extensions but was always skeptical in getting it because I was scared of the maintenance and what will happen after it starts falling off. Josephine explained to me the process and how eyelash extensions are applied and that every one of her client's set of eyelash extension is customized to the individual depending on their natural lashes to get the best results. The studio is located in Pasadena on the second floor of a building and there is a small parking lot in the back on Union St. The whole process took about 2 hours and the atmosphere was very comfortable and clean. Josephine was very gentle making sure that you didn't feel uncomfortable during the process. I have pretty sensitive eyes and besides the slight irritation from the fumes of the glue during application everything else was very pleasant. To my surprise the maintenance is a lot less than I thought it would be. It takes a couple of day to get use to because you don't want to rub on your eyes when you wash your face or anything. I have had my extensions for about 6 weeks now and I still have about 30% of it left which is amazing! I know friends that have gotten extension at other places that only lasted about 2 weeks. I guess the saying you get what you pay for is correct! I will definitely be going back soon to get my refills because I have been able to cut down my morning routine to about 5 min. I no longer have the need to wear eye makeup on a daily basis because the extensions are enough to open up my eyes to make me look more awake. This gives me 15-20 min more of sleep each morning.. what more can a girl ask for? And may I add that I have gotten SOOOOO many compliments on them as well ? (; read more

I am somewhat new to Pasadena and I was looking for a good men's hair stylist. My previous haircut was a complete disaster so I was a little apprehensive about my next hair stylist. After researching many nearby salons, I saw that Blankstein's Beauty & Style had several good reviews posted. Josephine was wonderful to me and I immediately felt that I had made the right choice. Josephine and her men's hair specialist, Monika, were very attentive, asking about the type of hairstyle I would like. Usually a stylist just asks if I'd like a trim and how long or short. But here, we had a lengthy conversation about where I would prefer it longer and where I'd like it shorter. Monika was very detailed and meticulous with my haircut. She took her time and asked questions during the process to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I thought it might take another haircut or two to correct the mistake of my previous hairstylist, but Monika did such a good job on the first try! I am very satisfied. I especially like the way Josephine went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed....she seems to genuinely care about making her clients happy and satisfied. I am very happy with the results! I would recommend Blankstein's Beauty & Style, very professional. read more

I have been using Josephine's service for about a year and she never fails in making my eyelash beautiful. I found her at another location in Hollywood and was the only person that I would use. I went all the way to Pasadena because she is simply the best. I've receive much compliments from friends, peers and even strangers that notice how natural they look. She is attentive and pleasant. I've had other beautician and they were rough on the process plus made me feel uncomfortable. Her lashes are flirty and soft. Just the perfect amount.
