This must be a Tex-Mex thing, but the rice was butter rice... There was no color or taste to it... The Charro beans were like refried beans except for not as mashed. They tasted good. also got the crispy ground beef tacos... First impression was that it had some sloppy Joe and cumin mixed into the ground beef. The tortilla was fried, it's supposed to be handmade, but it was very thin and kind of flaky. Husband got a chicken Tinga bowl. And it barely had any meat in it and he had the same butter rice that was as a base. He didn't really care for it, and I was sad to see him try to eat it... his comment was "well, we tried something new." LOL I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment... We tried it, but we won't be back. The service was fine, nothing to write home about... Also, when you walk in the restaurant, it has a stand there and most people would think that they should wait there to be seated because it's at the entrance... But you really do need to take time to read these plaques that are posted to find out that here you have to actually walk past a dining area into some sort of host area in the center of the restaurant. Came for appetizers before we did a little shopping. I ordered a frozen Paloma and we got guacamole and chicken nachos for the table. There were 3 of us and it was plenty of food. Unfortunately my Paloma never came. The waitress did let me know it was taking a minute for the machine and it would come out shortly. We kicked things off with a frozen Paloma and the house chips and salsa. The Paloma was dangerously smooth, and the chips and salsa were noticeably fresh and satisfying--a perfect, unfussy start. For the mains, we went heavy on the tacos. My sister ordered the shrimp tacos and the crispy sweet potato taco (avocado, chile negra, cotija... it looked serious). I opted for the more traditional route: Chicken Pastor: Solid. The caramelized pineapple brought a nice, necessary sweetness. Traditional Carnitas Taco: Okay, this was the moment. The carnitas itself was excellent, but the inclusion of the mandarin oranges with the salsa verde and crema fresca was an unexpectedly brilliant move. It sounds unconventional, but the citrus cut through the richness of the meat perfectly. It was the absolute highlight of the meal--a truly fresh and inventive take. The restaurant is massive, with ample indoor and outdoor seating, which is great for the Houston crowd. I liked that the bar faces both inside and out, making it easy to grab a drink wherever you post up. Everything was delicious, from the initial drinks to the very last bite of that carnitas taco. Made a reservation, but no issues getting an oversized booth near the kitchen as Blanco Cocina+Cantina was quite open. Started with the complimentary chips and salsa but added the Warm Queso off the Happy Hour Menu. The queso was so warm and creamy. It was topped with guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Such a great way to start the evening. The Chicken Tortilla Soup was quite filling for an appetizer. Topped with avocado, sour cream, pico de gallo, and creamy queso blanco, it was such a warm and cozy bite. I actually could have just ordered this and have been satisfied. We both ordered a salad. Mine was the Chopped Chicken Salad. It was filled with so many of my favorites. Crisp apple, sweet dates, quinoa, kale, crispy sweet potato strings, pomegranate, and goat cheese tossed with a chili walnut vinaigrette. My friend had the Crunchy Taco Salad. She substituted the ground beef for the carne asada which was a $12 upcharge. The salad was filled with black beans, avocado, tomato, roasted corn, and cheddar cheese mixed with a pasilla ranch dressing. Our waiter was so nice, but service was slow. My friend ordered a sangria when we ordered our appetizers. We had to ask for it a few times. It did come eventually after we got our salads. I was going to order an Agua Fresca, but was hesitant because the service was so slow. Maybe they were short staffed? Had to ask a couple of times for more chips to go with the Warm Queso and water refills. Surprised because the restaurant was quite empty. Blanco is a great place to eat! If you've got time. When we got there for dinner, we were told it was going to be over an hour wait. We were a large party and it was the galleria, so this was understandable. The wait ended up being closer to half an hour. All I can say is I'm glad we waited! The interior is nice with spacious wooden booths (which I love). Once we were seated, service was timely. The food itself was extremely worth the wait. The tacos and fajitas were excellent, with succulent meat cooked nicely. And the quantities were definitely filling. Overall, the ambiance is definitely here, however, the price point isn't reflected in the quality of the items. Drinks: For $18 for 1 drink, we expected much more from the Cadillac margaritas. We then switched to the house margarita and didn't taste a distinct premium difference between the two. As Margarita lovers we were definitely disappointed. Don't have an issue paying higher prices, but is disappointing when it doesn't taste like it. Food: The complimentary chips and salsa are a nice touch and we munched on those while waiting for our appetizer to come. The guacamole was a pretty small serving compared to other Mexican restaurants we dine at and the guacamole just didn't taste freshly made. It was missing distinct flavors of lime, cilantro, and definitely salt. There were darkened bits of avocado in it as well, making us suspect that it was sitting since the morning. The presentation was pretty, but flavor and quality were lacking. It was these things that made us decide to leave. Do want to say that the atmosphere/ interior is fantastic and I could see this being a nice spot for a girls night or happy hour date! Stopped here with a colleague for a quick lunch close to the hotel and it was inside the Galleria Mall on the first floor on the NW corner. It was pretty easy to find and we didn't have to go outside to get there. The queso was one of the best queso's that I've had. It had a nice mix of pico, sour cream, and guac with it and was just velvety delicious. They were a little slow with the chip refill which is dumb. If you bring chips and salsa out, then someone orders queso, then bring more chips! Service in general wasn't great. It wasn't overly busy either, it was just difficult to get drink refills which were needed after flying all morning. Having the glass FULL of ice didn't help either. I hate that! I ordered the Chimichanga "Sam Style" which came with a crispy taco too, something I usually try to do at a Mexican restaurant. The taco was just ok with run of the mill ingredients and a shell that "shattered" when you took a bite. (Why did you take a bite of my taco anyway? For Shame) The Chicken Tinga was definitely Texas sized and would have been plenty on its own. I think I ate about half of it partially because I was full and partially because the inside was a mushy mess. I was hoping for some sign of chicken pieces, but it was just kinda porridge like. I'd probably go here again just for the queso. I didn't have any drinks, but I'd probably get one with the queso next time too. And I'd make sure I had time to kill as well... This place was so much more fire than I expected! Being located at the Galleria had me slightly skeptical because I've had some places there and they looked nice with bland food. That was not the case at all here. For me this place truly hit in every area and as I write this review I find myself thinking I need to plan a return trip. You can enter in either from outside or from inside of the mall. As this was the only reason I came I entered in from outside. Coming in the interior design is really nice. The earthy colors are nice and you get a great pop from the colored wall that has a neon sign reading "Te Amo Tequila". There is an open kitchen view that separates from the dining area by a large glass wall. I love open kitchens because it lets me know that the restaurant feels confident in their cleanliness to allow guests to view it. Plus it's nice to see the different things in the kitchen. I remember that just seeing the bright yellow and green of lemons and limes in the kitchen added to the look of the restaurant to me. There wasn't anyone at the front when I came in and a group was in front of me. I had a reservation and once I did speak to someone I was soon seated and waiting for the date I was meeting. The waiter was cool and I believe was helpful when I finish did start going through the menu. Of course the table came with complimentary chips and salsa and I am happy to say that it was a really good salsa. Oftentimes at some places the salsa with the chips can be a letdown, but it was not here. I'm not one for alcohol with my meals but I decided to get a margarita. I got the Smashed Strawberry & Mandarin and it came in looking great and tasted amazing! Combined with the chips and salsa this meal was shaping up to be great! Continuing on with the meal we had the Chicken Taquitos for a starter and I think they came out with or after my main dish but it was no problem. By themselves the taquitos were great white the Chipotle-Avocado Salsa they were YES! Now a chimichanga is my absolute favorite dish of all time, but not everywhere does it justice, so I'm often hesitant to order it at new places. I saw it on the menu and had to go back and forth a few times before I pulled the trigger and order the Chicken Tinga Chimichanga. And when I tell you it hit the mark, I mean it HIT THE MARK! It didn't come in a cheese and gravy sauce as most chnimis I've had have come but it didn't matter because this one was banging. When I eat, I eats, so I'm not usually one to eat less than half my food but I legit only ate maybe half, if that, of my chimichanga. It came with pico de gallo, guacamole sour cream, rice and beans, and they were all light delicious and paired well with the chimi. I mean this so seriously, as I write and look at the photos of the meal I had, I want to go back ASAP so bad! The biggest problem is that I enjoyed everything I had so much that I want all of it again but then again, if all of that was so good then I'm sure there are other delicious treats on the menu. Kyle was such a delight. Not only an excellent bartender but also incredibly patient with my Goldilocks issue with the air conditioning since I must have moved seats at the bar 900 times . The first margarita pitcher we ordered was the mango stand but it just tasted too sour with almost No alcohol. Then we ordered the strawberry smash margarita but it was flat and not tasteful at all. Second, the Raging Burro drink is incredible and could be very dangerous if you don't take your time and pay attention to the drink. However, for the food, it's only ok. The street corn appetizer was probably the best thing we had. Clearly chips and salsa don't count, but they were also okay. The chips were either not salted or extremely salty - it was very odd. As for the entrees, everyone reported their food was "fine" - for a Tex Mex joint in Texas, I'm not sure that is very solid. The Short Rib was definitely fine, but the rice was very, very salty and almost buttery - which was odd. The rice 100% brought down the meal. I believe this is a chain restaurant but I went in blindly as it smelled delicious and the drinks looked good. Also, an outside bar? Yes please. The food was pretty good.
