Great location with a nice rooftop eating area (no bar up there). We only had a martini and a couple of apps so can't comment on overall food but their menu did look pretty good. The tuna tartare was pretty decent - the burrata caprese salad lacked burrata and I had to be really generous with the salt. It could have been spectacular with more balsamic glaze and burrata. Bartenders were friendly. Overall I think it would be a decent night out for a group of friends but be prepared to spend. Two drinks and two apps was 70 bucks. Yikes. read more

Had a great rooftop birthday lunch with my spouse today. The food and service was excellent! The decor is also really great. We enjoyed some excellent Bloody Marys, the fried green tomatoes with crab was awesome! I had the rockfish with crab which was perfectly cooked, wonderfully flavorful and juicy. I was worried it might be dry but it was perfect! My spouse got the rockfish (striped bass) prepared blackened with the avocado, etc topping option. Superb! The only critique... the bathrooms were not in great order. The upstairs women's room sink is broken and runs with a continuous tiny trickle but in the present times that should be fixed immediately. We tried the downstairs on our way out since the upstairs needed repair and that one had one of its 2 towel holders empty and the sink just overrun from water from use. It just needed a more frequent check in. But during the pandemic bathrooms are points of super concern for us when we go out. 'Dancing' with other customers to get a paper towel and getting our clothes wet by a soaked counter are now just not annoying but worrisome. read more

I was expecting more from Blackwall Hitch. So many people I know dine there. The atmosphere was nice but wasn't as upscale as I expected. I had dined at previous restaurant that occupied that space, and they were fine dining establishments. The waiter had all the tables in the bar area, which made him not as attentive. We found ourselves looking for him for assistance. We ordered the Florida Snapper and Fish Tacos. The fries were the best item on the plate. They were shoestring fries and cooked to perfection. The Florida Snapper wasn't seasoned well, which was unfortunate because I love snapper. I ordered the Pico de Gallo and Avocado topping on the snapper. The Fish Taco claimed to have spicy slaw but it wasn't. We had to request hot sauce to make them spicy. To drink we had the Blackwall Hitch Lemonade because we love Deep Eddie's grapefruit vodka. However the drink taste like it had more cranberry than anything else. I thought that I would try this location but maybe I ordered the wrong items and maybe the chief was off this evening. read more

We decided on Sunday brunch at BWH. We've always loved their massive buffet style options. We reserved through Opentable for late morning/early afternoon, for a standard table for 2. When we arrived the hostess tried to sit us at a high table---ughhh no darling. The bar area is crowded as it is bc that's where the buffet is located and we're over 40 and not interested in sitting in uncomfortable seats while dining. Those days are over. Lol. Food was lukewarm at best. The ready to serve waffles were the freshest thing. The grits were lumpy and not flavorful, but covered in mounds of cheese. We've eaten here for years for brunch and never really reacted to the cost but for $48 pp, carbonated beverages $6+, $7 Fiji water, WITH a 18% service charge included---and space for you to leave an addtl tip. This used to be a cute place to bring friends from out of town; when it initially opened... However... The food and management is average & lackluster. I was an avid supporter since their first opening but no more--and the added surcharge just for for using your credit/ bank debit card leaves a sour taste--& I'm over it. We are still in a Covid pandemic & people have been warned against cash; because of the challenge it presents; but here, they look to penalize you for using your card with s/c. Petty & unethical... it's legality is also in question; as any fees incurred by the business are business expenses to be written off or considered by that entity as the cost of doing business. So charge us time and time again for using your terminal. This does not sit well and frankly is bad business. Having entertained a party of visitors from out of town, I was embarrassed by this; it's not the money but the principle--And, I said as much-- which fell on a def ear. Again; I've been coming here for year's, bringing people from out of town, holiday buffets, brunch etc; spending $200-500+ a sitting. They'd be wise to reconsider. Sadly, this will negatively fall on to the waitstaff, who otherwise may have provided great service; if they fail to correct. And its not limited to a certain number in your party, say group of 6 or more; insult to injury; Any signage to this hidden fee, is conveniently inconspicuous -at best -and gleaned only after you've dined facing out towards the door and up towards the rafters in a small corner easily obscured by people waiting to be seared. Nor, is it reiterated by waitstaff; struggle to get paid timely, as it is. I see now why it no longer has the charm it seemingly once had and was virtually empty on comissioning weekend/ memorial day. An absolutely fun dining experiencee from start to finish! Excellent dIning atmosphere and service...we just loved our waiter who was helpful and attentive! The bread was amazing with a wonderful seasoned butter. Our drinks were very tasty and apparently powerful because we were quite lively! Our starter was the flaming bourbon crab dip and the presentation was the very best! For our main dish, I had shrimp and scallop risotto and my companion had braised short ribs. My dish consisted of two shrimp and two scallops, they were sizable and most certainly flavorful! My companion thoroughly enjoyed her braised short rib dish. We ended our meal with a molten chocolate cake which fell slightly short of the mark. There was no molten center and just wasn't the sweetness and flavor level we were expecting. I visited the location a few times but my favorite of course is brunch! Nice spread. The ambience is good. There are a few places to be seated at- dining, patio, or bar. We would not suggest the French onion soup as it was short on onions, weak broth and a tiny cheesed crouton garnish. The dressed oysters were gritty. The veal chop is obviously brined but mine to the point where it was all salt. The quinoa side with the Bone-in-Veal chop seems an unlikely demographic accompaniment. read more

Blackwall Hitch is always a treat, the food is yummy and the atmosphere is quite nice. I went for lunch with my department this week and got the fried green tomatoes and the crab cake sandwich. For the price, I think its a little overpriced but that accounts for the atmosphere. As I said before, the food is good. The portions are a little small but decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the crab cake, I thought it was a little skimpy. The fried green tomatoes are absolutely delicious, everything goes together so beautifully. The only complaint I have is the service / turnover time. We ended up being there for 2 hours (which for lunch is way too long) and had to wave down the waitress to order or get the check since she wasn't really coming around and asking if we were ready. Overall, for dinner Blackwall is a total winner... for lunch, I would suggest either make sure you don't have anywhere to be or sit at the bar. read more

I stopped into this establishment along with my family for my sister's 26th birthday. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted and seated promptly after showing the server our reservation. After being seated we ordered drinks and appetizers. For the appetizers, we ordered the calamari and the crab dip. The calamari was absolutely delicious! Fried to perfection, along with spicy fried peppers in between that gave it a nice zest and overall texture. The crab dip was okay, it was very creamy and had a lot of cream cheese more than anything. I would have liked a better crab to cream ratio! Additionally, it came with breaded crackers which did not pair well with it. This dish would be so much better with tortilla chips instead! For my main entree, I ordered a crab cake sandwich that came with French Fries. The crab cake sandwich was bland with barely any flavor or sauce, and it seemed like it wasn't fried thoroughly. To be honest, it tasted like they pulled it out of the freezer! I have purchased frozen crab cakes in the grocery store that tasted better than this. A little salt and pepper would have gone a long way! The fries were crispy and delicious on the other hand! We told the waitress that it was my sister's birthday, and she nonchalantly wished her a Happy Birthday. For a special occasion such as someone's birthday, you would think that the waitress would be a bit more upbeat. Be forewarned, it is a good restaurant and good experience but the prices reflect a 5 star restaurant and not the 3.5-4 star that this would truly be classified as. For the quality of the food and the service, I EXPECT A LOT MORE!!! The food varies from excellent to okay depending on what you order and palate. The fish and speciality brick chicken always won over our crowd. Personally, I love the pasta. Now....the disappointing: Their crab cakes leave much to be desired and the establishment should be embarrassed for even associating these cake shaped masses with Maryland. All that filler and assorted spice may fly on the Florida panhandle or in the Midwest, but this is the Free State. The main ingredient in a Maryland crab cake is lump crab. Don't try to get fancy with spices or dashes of color. Drop the filler, up the lump, go back to pure JO/OB for seasoning. read more

I met a Friend in Annapolis for Sunday brunch and since I'm a regular at the Blackwall In Alexandria I was hoping for the same experience. John was our server and he was pretty attentive. I liked how he didn't charge us extra for a mimosa with pineapple juice. The Sunday brunch buffet was blah. Which was disappointing as we spent over $100 on own bill. I didn't like that it's in two different rooms. Also, the omelet station didn't have egg whites!
