Ambiance was perfect for our group of 8. Katie was our server and she read the table right away. We were being funny and playful and she jumped right in while making sure we respected the other guests. Food was very good. Wine was priced well. Cocktails were very good. Shrimp and scallops were done well and there was a good portion with all the meals at our table. I did think the crabcakes were average but that was about it. Would love to go back. I hosted the Comics for Critters event at Harry Browne's to benefit the Anne Arundel County SPCA on September 17. Everything about the event was 5 stars with much of that having to do with the venue. The staff and food and drink at Harry Browne's are all excellent. The vibe at the event was chill as the event sold out so the place was packed, but still comfy for all. This just added to making it a wonderful event that will be repeated! Russ the owner and Taylor the event coordinator made everything so easy and were very supportive from the beginning. I had lunch at Harry Browne's for work a few weeks ago. We were a large party, and they sat us in a lovely room upstairs and served us a from a set menu (three options for entree). What I ate that day (salad, crab cake entree, and dessert) were all good, but the service and ambiance is really what has me wanting to go back when I'm next in Annapolis. The space is beautiful and reminds you of just how old Annapolis is. The space and the food together put Harry Browne's somewhere between upscale pub and historic tavern. There are lots of spaces in the building, including an upstairs bar that seems a great place for a drink. Overall, I was just impressed by my first Harry Browne's experience. My wife and I went to here for a date night to get out on a Sunday evening. The restaurant wasn't busy, service was good. Food was OK. I had the Australian rack of lamb, which was kind of tough and chewy but good flavor. My wife ordered the whole lobster that was on special And unfortunately she had never eaten whole lobster and her first move. Got her a plate full of lobster poop, which kind of took away from the rest of the meal, not the restaurant fault. Overall, nice atmosphere good service OK food. read more

He didn't want to "bother us," but ultimately we had to ask other staff to track him down. In a restaurant that wasn't close to full I ordered the rack of lamb, medium. It arrived medium well to well. Kitchen's fault or server's? IDK. My husband's lobster and shrimp pasta had shell-on shrimp and invisible lobster. He should not have to reach into his food with his hands at a "white tablecloth" restaurant. We were never offered dessert and finally just asked for our check. 4 stars... Visiting a Brother at the Naval Academy and this joint was within walking distance, and a reservation assured we had a front row seat! Good wine selection, but they were out of my first choice(mid price) but recommended another of the varietal(high price)..we accepted and was a good one, though nearly double the price! Ordered the crab cakes and while the composition and abundance of crab was first rate, the size was on the small side. Served with hush puppies and asparagus, both good! Finished the night with a chocolate layer cake...mouse and cake and fudge frosting...great! Ambiance is old world bistro, service was wonderful and prompt, and prices were slightly above expectation. Went here for Mother's Day and upon arrival we were really excited. Had a 7:30 reservation and were able to be seated early. They set up the table for our party of 10 so nicely and in a separate room. Leading up to this dinner, we browsed the menu online and knew what we wanted. However, when we arrived there was a special menu in place of the one we saw online. There is no indication of a holiday menu on their website nor did they let us know when the reservation was made or when it was confirmed. The options were so limited. A few small plates and like 6 entries priced at $40+. This is not at all what we expected. When we tried to talk with our waiter, he was very dismissive and did not offer any type of solution. My family also has gluten sensitivities and there was only one thing on the menu marked gluten free. When my mom asked if there was anything else gluten free, the waiter's response was "well you can go to the restaurant down the street and they will have plenty of options for you" Absolutely rude and unprofessional, especially on a day we are celebrating her. Service was overall super poor. Even the bartender was rude. The only kind people we interacted with was the hostess and a waitress that was assisting with the table. My second time here and I was again charmed. I can't decide if it's the food or service I like better. They are both excellent. The menu has dishes that are somewhat traditional Maryland staples but each one has a special twist that takes it to a new level. One of my favorites is the Roasted Local Oysters with Chorizo sausage, fresh mozzarella and garlic butter served with sliced baguette. YUM! But I also can't say enough about the service. The staff are super accommodating. It's almost like they can anticipate what you want or they try to imagine how to provide you with the best experience. Harry Brown's is classy and laid back. We've been here several times on personal days celebrating events and loved it. But I was a little apprehensive because tonight was Valentine's Day and the kitchen would likely be fully challenged. I shouldn't have worried. Our server was attentive and helpful, the room was full of people but it wasn't loud or hectic and my cocktail was perfect. The entrees are all accompanied by a starch and vegetable. I ordered a rack of lamb that was seasoned beautifully and augmented by the au gratin potatoes and roasted Brussel sprouts. I'm anticipating the leftover lamb tomorrow. Hours later, I am still enjoying the memory of the tastes of my meal. This restaurant is classy without pompousness making the splurge a joy. read more

Harry Browne is located right in the center of Annapolis and seems like it has been there a while. They have an upstairs that has a speakeasy vibe and looks like a fun place to have a drink. The food was solid. The pork chop was slightly overcooked but had good flavor. The calamari was good. I didn't understand what pizza was doing on the menu. Doesn't seem like that type of place plus it was average. The mushroom ravioli had good flavor. The crab soup was hearty and had nice flavor. Not sure why there wasn't music playing for dinner. Would have helped the ambiance. Overall, it was a nice meal. I would come back when visiting Annapolis. 3.5 stars is a fair rating. Will bump it to 4! read more

This was an anniversary dinner. A quiet tuesday night, but stillqubout 15 diners in and out. It felt like we could linger, and that was relaxing, and allowed our conversation to linger. I got soup du jour - gumbo, he got calamari for appetizer, then we both got blackened grouper for entree. We got a cocktail to start, then a Chablis with the fish. Went to this restaurant for a belated birthday celebration. Arrived there around 5:15pm. Walked in and found out they don't take walk in, only reservations. However the bar area upstairs is open seating/first come-first serve. We were there a bit before the dinner rush, so we were able to get an open table in the bar area. The restaurant is a little small and the tables are pretty close together. The upstairs bar area was a little more spacious. Upon being seated, the server got us water and I ordered a Shirley Temple: We then ordered food. I ordered the mussels appetizer and my friend ordered the oysters so we could share. I also ordered the crab dip which I didn't care for. It had way too much cheese and not enough crab. The cheese was over powering. I ate a little and left the rest. The mussels were delicious. To be honest, it could have been an entrée. I think the portion is really good. The oysters were good too. Also ordered a side of asparagus since the appetizers don't come with sides to make a complete meal. Overall the food was good. I would skip the crab dip. Been here many times and it is has a great old school steak house vibe. As it is supported by lots of political business, its similar to some old school places in DC in the fact that its just not very good. Food-Steaks were of poor quality, with a non-existent crust. It needs the sauce to give it any semblance of flavor. Feels like it just came out of the freezer from GIANT. In addition, steak came out cool, like it had rested way too long. Walking in Harry Brownes you get a warm cozy feel. The place was very clean and we found the entire staff to include our server "Bailey" to be exceptional and attentive to our needs. We started out with appetizers of a meat, cheese & olive tray, Calamari and Crab/Cheese Dip served with warm bread that all were so, so good but I have to pick out specifically The Calamari which was cooked perfectly and tender as I find most Calamari served at other places to be very tough. For my main course I had The Petite Fillet served medium rare which was cooked perfect. The main also came with a side of mashed potatoes and leaf spinach w/ butter & garlic which all were very good. From the restaurant downstairs to the Upstairs bar and the Wine space in the back, you could spend most of your day here and get your work done, while eating high quality food. Right on State Circle, and the closest sit down place to the Capitol, you can't get more efficient than Harry Browne's. And the fact that they do a good job makes thinking up alternatives unnecessary. My go to is a salad and the crab dip appetizer for lunch. Sandwiches are also very good. The Jay Schwartz and other turkey variants always does well. No photos as it might make people here uncomfortable (or excited). Bread and butter usually provided. This place does get bizzy (busy and buzzy) after hours with fundraisers and lobbying. read more

My husband and I had a lovely lunch at Harry Browne's today. I had made an online reservation through Resy, noting that it was a special occasion. When I arrived, I was shown to a dark table in the rear. I asked if there were any tables up front near the window, and initially they said no (they were tables for four and reserved), but then the host came back and offered us a cozy little table for two up front by the mirror where we still had a nice view. We ordered mussels to share for an appetizer. They were yummy and came with sliced baguette and a garlicky butter sauce. I ordered the Cobb salad and my husband had the State House club sandwich. The sandwich had turkey, bacon, and cranberry brie on croissant. The portion sizes were quite large. The bill was reasonable for the amount of food. It is a great place to watch the world go by, as legislators and visitors bustle around State House Circle. read more

Wonderful restaurant right in the heart of Annapolis State Capital area.. I don't have to tell anyone how quaint and lovely the area is, so I'll get right to the restaurant.. STELLAR Service! There were so many of us that day and the servers were fast, knowledgeable and made great recommendations! Sophisticated and intimate ambiance, with an upstairs that had a law library feel, that was perfect for entertaining Warm and comfortable. Truly one of the older buildings and probably an original in this historic district that has now been updated while retaining the old charm. My steamed mussels appetizer was delectable and juicy and perfectly steamed in a nicely seasoned jus, that wasn't too salty... I had a Beets medley and and butter lettuce salad and both were made with fresh ingredients and all the goat cheese to my heart's content! Did I mention that wine was $5 a glass? The ambiance is quite dashing, food is well-prepared, but the customer service is horrible. During an evening in Annapolis reuniting with some incredibly successful Academy classmates we decided to beaten off the "certain" path of DTA by the waterfront and frolic up towards Harry Browns for an 8pm dinner reservation. Upon arriving early, since our table wasn't ready we strolled up the staircase to the bar where we were met by the most disgruntled bartender who limited his interactions with us to grunts, no's, and "I don't have the time to make that drink" type of responses. After conferring with my group of classmates (albeit diverse + well dressed), we settled for house drinks as to add on to whatever stress he had endured for the night. We collectively comment on his disrespectful tone & "tude", but don't let it get us down as the night was still young. On or about 8pm, the hostess comes to retrieve us and we are promptly escorted down to our table. Upon arriving at the table it takes approx 15 minutes to be asked for drinks + starters, to wit they did not return for another 15-20 mins, which thankfully we had all nibbled at tailgates and the federal house before arrival. Becoming more and more aware of this lapse in customer attentiveness, I try to keep it simple and order the chocolate temptation dessert. A+ for look and culinary design, C for taste (i believe they hazelnut topping had gone bad). I ushered for a waiter, diplomatically shared my feedback and request for the standard lava cake (can't go wrong with a lava cake, right?) and was met with yet another attitude about how she wasn't sure I could take it back and would have to check with our designated waiter. 5 mins later, a waiter returns with what we deduced was a unsatisfactory stale, completely melted + runny dessert. ** I look up and notice quite a few of the staff from the back came out to the main room chuckling while observing my reaction to receiving such a disastrous replacement. Completely fed up with this run of the mill experience.. 15 mins later when our waiter does return (moreover in an attempt to avoid our immediate disgruntlement since there were barely any full tables) and though now nauseated at the sight, I politely ask him to remove the cake from the bill. Our friend takes the bill and ironically overtips for the experience. We hustle out and realize returning to HB will no longer become a tradition for our group. My overall observation is the caliber of waiters/waitresses on the floor do not reflect the reputation, nor perceived pedigree of HB. Please do better management.. hire better quality... to ensure the experiences of fellow alumni from USNA, whom I'm sure kept the business afloat from over the years, continues to recommend and more importantly feel comfortable and well-received at your "fine dining" establishment. **Conferred with my group prior posting this feedback to ensure there were no subjective sentiments shared** read more
