I got their hojicha latte and ...the yelp reviewers definitely DID NOT OVERHYPE! IT WAS SO SO GOOD. The hojicha flavor really came through and now I definitely want to come back to try their matcha next! The cashier (maybe the owner?) was also super nice and informative about all of their coffee beans and teas. He explained the different beans, where they came from, and how they roast their coffee in small batches. He even gave me a few samples to try! You can tell there's a lot of thought and attention to detail here, from the drinks and service down to the design of the cups themselves. Everything felt very intentional. The only downside is the location. It's part of an apartment complex facing the street, so it was a little confusing to find/get to, and parking is definitely a pain. Still an easy 5/5 for me. I came for the hojicha but now I need to go back for the matcha. Also a super cute and quiet study spot with outlets. read more

Best hojicha latte I've ever had! Located inside an apartment building, luckily I found parking on the side of building (only 3 spots) they have retail spots inside parking structure. It's a long drive for me since I'm in Newport but it was totally worth it! I do wish they had 2% or nonfat milk! But the hojicha was perfectly made, not too milky, not too watery. The brown sugar foam was a nice touch I do like their foam since it's not heavy! My husband said the Tokyo cold bru, Americano and butterscotch latte were really good! The staff were very welcoming and had good recommendations. The space is really nice but can't really utilize it unless you're a resident or work nearby. Theres 3-4 20 minute street parking spots. Highly recommend this place! They only opened two months ago. Their coffee beans are roasted here so you're getting the freshest beans when you order a drink or buy a bag. They do a really good job roasting too. Apparently they supply roasted coffee beans to nearby shops in the area. The owner also sells at the Torrance farmer's market. There is a lot of space for studying and socializing. Wifi is also free here. This is now my goto spot if I ever wanted to sit down and read/relax/study/etc. Now the biggest downside about this place is the parking. It's VERY limited. They have about 4 curb side parking spots that's only 20 minutes long. Otherwise you'd have to pull into the apartment parking structure and part in the Retail parking spots (6 or so spots only). I'm so glad I stumbled across this café while searching for matcha in the area. I ordered the half-sweet matcha latte and a vanilla latte, and both impressed me. The matcha was light yet creamy, with a clean flavor and a moderate umami profile. Most cafés use Uji or Kagoshima matcha, so it was fun to try Shizuoka matcha here. The interior is spacious and inviting, and they roast their own coffee beans, so the café smells amazing. The staff was incredibly friendly and provided excellent service throughout my visit. The only downside was finding parking, but it was well worth the effort. I'd definitely come back and highly recommend stopping by for a refreshing drink on a hot day. Tried this spot because of several reviews of the Hojicha. I ordered it with oat milk and regular sweet (they use maple syrup). Drink was soo good and with so much flavor. First finding the place was a little annoying as well as parking. I was lucky enough to find one basically on the corner! The directions took me into a different plaza and the security guard said I couldn't park there. Just be aware of that. The interior of this place is beautiful with lots of seating inside and outside! I got the honey latte and wow it was great! They roast their beans inside! The black tea was great as well! Let's get the bad out of the way. Parking looks like it could be a challenge at this location. However, because I wasn't planning to stay, I was able to snag a 20 minute street parking. But I definitely think it can be hard to find parking if one plans to linger here. Now, for all the good. This is such a lovely shop with beautiful, natural lighting during the hours when the sun shines. And the coffee! SMOOTH. I believe the person who helped take my order was the owner, and if so, that would be Kaz. What a kind, patient, and welcoming gentleman. He took the time to explain natural wash, light/medium/dark roasts, and equated it to like how steaks are, with welldone being light, medium well being medium roasts, and rare being dark roast. He explained the smoothness to each level, and was just super sweet and kind. I ended up purchasing some coffee beans and the nice thing is, my bag was roasted about 3 days ago, so that's as fresh and nice as it is. A Canadian latte is a maple syrup latte by the way. I asked that question and felt like a dork. I would definitely come back to try more of their drinks, and because I love supporting small coffee shops and roastery. The lids to their drinks have this cool geometric shape, and I forgot to take a picture before finishing my drink. I definitely do recommend this place for its welcoming and calm energy. read more

I know a lot of other people mourn that coffee shop but this coffee shop makes coffee and matcha SO much better . Coffee shops don't typically leave an impression on me anymore, but this one 100% did. I came in looking to buy some beans and right away (I think the owner) started explaining all the different types of beans as well as letting me smell them. He was incredibly kind, patient, and excited to explain about them. I ended up buying one bag and he gave me a sample as well which was so nice. Today they had a deal that if you buy a bag of beans they give you half off of any drink and it was great! I think it's awesome that they roast the beans in house and are just so willing to answer any questions you have. They have a huge variety of beans and the cafe itself is very cute and seems like a great study spot. There is 20 minute parking out front as well! I'll definitely be back to buy some more beans, I think I've finally found my go to roastery! read more

I saw that this was listed under hot and new. It looked familiar but Blacklight Coffee Roaster is a new owner. We were kindly greater by the owner and he allowed us to smell some of the coffee beans. We ordered a drip coffee but since it was afternoon, he served us a pour over. It was a light roast washed bean and it was very good. I had a Japanese-styled cold brew that was on the special menu. It was good as well. The ambiance is modern and airy. Parking situation is less than desirable. I will be back if I can parking. read more

This is a new coffee shop that we discovered. We got the butterscotch latte and the popcorn latte. They were both good, my favorite was the popcorn latte! At first, we were hesitant to try it but it was the best drink. It tastes like caramel popcorn, sweet and salty. The flavors complement each other. I would try this again. read more

The coffee was so good that I had to come again the next day. I got the Tokyo style cold brew and I think it was hands down the best cold brew I've had in my life, like great depth of flavor and clarity. I had the espresso this time around and it was brewed perfectly. The service is amazing here as well. The staff is friendly and Kaz is super knowledgeable about all the beans they roast and offer. I asked for a recommendation for espresso and they lead me to the right decision. They also threw in a sample of their Sumatra beans and personally showed me the retail parking location for their shop. The space is very nice, clean, and chill with great lighting for studying/working so definitely worth while to stick around. I'll definitely be back! read more

The drinks, ambiance, and service here are amazing. The Kyoto cold brew was the best I've ever had, and my husband's salted popcorn latte was amazing. The drinks came out quickly and the owner/barista was friendly. There is ample space inside to sit and relax, and the roasting machine is on-site. In fact, the owner had just roasted some Sumatran beans and gave us a bag to try. It's a bit difficult to find parking. Really wonderful little coffee shop with great ambiance. Service was fast and friendly, but in a way that felt welcoming and personal. Based on other recommendations, I ordered the Tokyo cold brew and added cold foam. It lived up to the hype, flavor was smooth and so delicious. It was also a treat to be able to watch the barista roast the coffee beans in their Diedrich machine at the front window of the shop, and they even went out of their way to introduce their baker as well. Definitely will return. Note: location is located within an apartment complex. Enter via 1st Street for the leasing office garage, then turn left for the six retail designated parking spots. Been coming here to get my cold brew, the guy upfront, i'm not too sure if he's the owner or not but he's always so welcoming, the hojita latte is also top tier and a REALLY solid option, the inside area is also really cozy. My girlfriend always gets the strawberry matcha which is also pretty darn good.
