I have been here several times ... I heard about this place through a friend who raved about it ... its a little bit of a drive if your not from the area ... however, I will drive for good food and not think twice about it ... I am stuck on the hamburgers right now ... I can tell you its one of the few, if not only, places in RI that will cook the burger to the perfect temperature! If I order medium by gosh its medium!! Also give the winner winner chicken dinner a try ... the calamari sounds odd but is really outstanding!! Great job, kitchen!! You can count on my return again and again ... thanks for the #yumyum food!! read more

I have been to Blackie's many times and the food is excellent and unique. My issue the last few times has been the service. Slowwwwww. They forgot our food and when it finally came out it was cold. The last time they forgot my food. They are always slammed and that seems to have affected their service. The last couple of times we've opted to go elsewhere. I hope they can turn the service around because they're truly one of a kind. read more

I have been to Blackie's numerous times and never been disappointed. My friends and I put this as our number 1 "go to" spot for excellent food and even better drinks. The ambience speaks for itself. It's very clean, organized and quaint. Definitely recommend without hesitation! read more

Amazing menu, the food is delicious. We get take out a lot and it is just as good as eating in the restaurant. One of my favorite restaurants!!! The Nachos are killer. read more

This place looks a lot nicer than you'd expect for a tavern. Service was a little slow, but they were very busy, so that's to be expected. My wife got the cuban which was excellent. I got the brisket and burnt ends sandwich. It was probably the best sandwich I've ever had. We will definitely be back. read more

Food was great. Good portions. Drinks were empty most the night due to poor service though. Will definitely give another try though!

Tried this place for dinner tonight. It looked packed but we were seated immediately. Our server was okay. His name was brett/brent? Don't really remember. The appetizers werent really appealing and the menu was difficult to chose from. There weren't many choices. I just did a BYOB because it was simplest and i could manage what was on it. I didnt like how sandwiches/burgers come with chips. Maybe its just me but im not the biggest fan of chips. It was taking a while for refills though, another waitress had to come refill our drinks. Im looking forward to try it again when the menu changes! Overheard a waiter saying it changes every 6 months. read more

We live in the area and can honestly say we've never had a bad meal at there. We have always had great service and good quality delicious food. (there is always a wait during peak dining hours because it is worth the wait!) read more

We saw the review on Maitre'D, and wanted to try it. We went on Father's day and sat at the bar. We had a couple of beers and sandwiches. The service was great. The beer was cold. The food was awesome. Highly recommend this place! read more

The atmosphere is great and the food was phenomenal. I would recommend the food to everyone. I'd go to this place everyday of the week

Stopped by for lunch and enjoyed our sandwiches very much. The hummos wrap takes this type of wrap to a whole new level and the sweet potato fries were the best I have had in a restaurant. My companion thought his reuben was delicious but the portion was so huge he brought half of it home. We are definitely going back to this place. read more

Awesome menu and fantastic food. I can't wait to go back! There were five things I wanted to order and I'm excited to go again.

Food is good when you can get in. We have done call ahead told about a 45 min wait and after 45min we were told 15 more min and after 15 min we were told 20 mins! Hostess' are clueless and said they told that to everybody. Have a gift card wish I could turn it in. Too bad saw a lot of disappointed people leave. read more

Fantastic Food, Atmosphere and Service!!! We have visited two weeks in a row- both times the food was amazing. The Caesar salad is one of the best I've had- not too much dressing, crispy lettuce, and nice homemade croutons. The burgers are huge. Love all the design your own toppings. The fried pickles were our favorite appetizer although the pretzel bites and the pulled pork nachos were right behind them. Yummy!!! Dessert options were unusual with an offering of Guinness donut holes with baileys frosting for St. Patricks Day read more

Very disappointed! I went here with wife and daughter after hearing about it on phantom gourmet. We ordered the fried pickles for an app and it was the only thing that was good that we ate. I ordered the braised beef shepherds pie and it diss appointed on many levels. First off it came to the table warm at best and not hot enough. It lacked flavor. It had no salt and no pepper on it. I was hoping for a sweeter braised style and something that was going to be super flavorful but it failed. I don't think it was actually "braised" at all, but instead it was pulled apart a long time ago and just sitting in a warming tray until time to put it together. The mashed potatoes were very lumpy and again had no seasoning. The corn was barely there and prepared in no special way. My wife got the classic salad with steak added and was not happy with it. She too said the salad had no flavor. The worse part of the salad was the steak. It was so chewy and gummy. She couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. The steak also had zero flavor. My daughter got the red pizza and wasn't excited about it. It looked good but did not have much flavor. Blackies did not live up to the hype for us. We also heard another couple complaining about the food. The only reason this gets one star is because the staff was pretty good. Such a shame the food didn't deliver. I would not go back there or recommend it to friends. read more

Revisited and again had a great experience. The food has a great creative twist. I love the char broiled taste of their grilled items and my husbands BBQ flatbread was AMAZING! It's a little on the pricier side for a tavern but you can understand why when you see the outcome. read more

My kids took me to Blackies today for an early Mother's Day lunch. They are both huge fans of the place and have been asking me to go for awhile. We ordered the junkyard nachos for an appetizer and I got the breakfast burger. My kids had the Mac and cheese and we got the carrot cake ice cream sandwich for dessert. I was very impressed with the food, it was some of the best I have ever eaten. I can't wait to go back. read more

We've been loyal customers since Angie and Jeanine took Blackie's by storm several years ago. The tuna and edamame app., the salmon BLT, the beef and broccolini, the drunken clams!!!!! All out of this world. But recently, we asked them to bring this deliciousness to us when we were hosting our daughters rehearsal dinner in our home. Let me tell you it was amazing! Keri , the GMwas a dream to work with to come up with the right menu of food that would 'travel'. They prepared enough food for an army, sent their sous chef to make sure everything was perfect, and every single person raved about the food. The corn off the cobb salad, the pulled pork sliders, potato salad, pasta, lobster cheesecake, and I lost track after that! We also had a carrot cake that was out of this world. 5 stars for the food, service - and the fact that they care so much about making it a great experience for everyone. I would highly recommend them for your next special occasion! read more

Had dinner there last night 8/12. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Had drunken clams (yum) for appetizer, filet of sole and skirt steak - both impressive and had the carrot cake ice cream sandwich. Wonderful night. Enjoy! read more

Very good restaurant. Quick, attentive service. Good food. Will certainly go back.

Love love the food!!! Four stars out of five due to the slowness of service. Waited well over 20 minutes for one dessert. The server apologized and said there was a miscommunication in the kitchen. Other than that, very good! read more

As a NYC person, I am accustomed to good food. I give Blackie's the very highest praise. In addition to impressively good food the whole place feels alive and exciting. Worth a trip from anywhere. read more

Recommend by family .. we took a drive from Massachusetts. Amazingly good!! I had the winner winner chicken dinner I think it was called and my fiance had the Blackie s Burger and it was so big he had to take half of it home. We loved both dishes and can't wait to go back. read more

We came in with a party of 30 tonight, half of them were kids. I called earlier in the day to make sure it would be ok and they left no detail unturned. They set us upstairs in what was basically a private room and even had it's own bar area with lounge seating. The staff was excellent and the food was fantastic. Everyone agreed we would be back the next time we were in town for a hockey tournament. read more

Been a dozen times or so over the past year. Food is always good and the beer is cold. Great service by the staff and management

Very good food and a great ride on the bike to get there. Loved the atmosphere and the staff was very nice and welcoming. We will be back for sure. read more

I love the food there - the Ahi Tuna app is my favorite - I get it as an entree with a pita. My husband on the other hand is very traditional in his tastes and is unable to find anything for the non-adventurous on their menu so we don't go. Also not sure how they don't have Yeungling on tap. If they had a more balanced menu and wasn't always hard to get into, would give it more stars read more

Wondering why Guy Fieri has not visited this excellent tavern. Blackies is the place you go to for consistent quality and unique menu choices with support of local ingredients. The menu is varied for all tastes. Haven't met anyone else that can top their tuna appetizer, especially the edamame hummus. The junkyard nachos are large enough to feed four. Always enjoy going each month to see which wines will be highlighted. The owners... Dedicated beyond belief. The bar is vibrant and personable service is always given. Never hesitate to recommend Blackies! Great Job!!!! read more

What another fabulous meal at Blackies. We brought our friends with us and they loved it too. They are so attentive to make folks feel welcome. The service by Catrina was top notch. But let's face it when we go out to eat we want to know how the food is. We ordered gluten free buffalo wings they came out crispy just they way we asked for them. I ordered the paleo power meal. Scallops, sweet potato fries and the home made guacamole with veggies. Perfection, all of it. As someone with celiac disease and severe allergy to dairy I absolutely never have to worry eating here. They are all educated and extremely careful when serving me my food. My husband had chicken piccata and he said it was awesome and will have that again. Our friends had a burger, with to die for onion rings and the turkey pub. They both loved it too. Sadly, we didn't save room for dessert, but they hired a new pastry chef and her specialty is paleo and gluten free deserts!!! Oh my, did they look good. No worries we will be going back next week and we will try them then. Can't say enough about this restaurant, the employees and the owner Jeanine. She is an owner who is right there involved helping with seating, delivering food and checking to see if everyone is having a good time. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The only reason this amazing place is not a 5 star is because discussing with others who love this place as much as I do! The service is poor, more than not i am treated rudely and thrown at an "undesirable " table. The vent/air is situated uncomfortably above a bar table and you are left to deal with it. On slow nights I've been ignored by waitstaff but hinted at to tip well. If it wasn't for the food I wouldn't come back. read more

We were recommended to this restaurant by several people. We came on a Sunday nite at 5:09 and 2 hours later we finally got our food unacceptable other patrons came and were served and we were still waiting a party of 4 w 3 burgers and fish and chips!! We were given a free round of drinks and a 15dollar gift certificate for extremely burned hamburger buns! Will never go back. Pam H read more

Great experience! My boyfriend and I went on a busy Friday night and we barely had to wate. Our server Demi was amazing! I'm sure she was busy, but we couldn't feel it. She answered so many questions and even made unsolicited recommendations. We ordered calamari which was hand tossed and delicious. I had one of the best Reubens ever and my boyfriend ordered the Brisket and Burnt Ends Sandwich (he loved it). The atmosphere, menu, and service were great. We'll be back! read more

Outstanding, innovative food. Large list of beers, wine. We need more restaurants and chefs like this in ri. Only issue was long wait time. We went on the very crowded night before Valentine's. They use an app that lets people get on wait list via the web. We arrived and put name on the list, however their software kept putting people in front of us. I finally complained after an hour wait. They then seated us a few minutes later. The food however was worth the wait read more

Food was very fresh and way too much of it. Amanda, our server was very friendly. . Great family atmosphere.

Excellent food and prices. The pulled pork nachos are the best. Service is friendly too

We had really high expectations for this place since the ratings were amazing. I never truly believed that service matter until now. We ordered our appetizer right away and a drink. We got the appetizers...the drink took a long time to come and our waitress was nowhere to be found most of the time. One of us is gluten free and dairy free... we got attitudes/snarky remarks from her when we forgot to make clear that the appetizers should be gluten free even though the person who placed the order ordered from the GLUTEN FREE MENU! She was NOT nice. Our food took a looooong time to come. My onions were replaced with fries instead. They were cold when they came out. I wanted to tell her, but she was nowhere to be found. She came in to check in on us once as she was walking by the table. It was not a stop at the table question, it was on-her-way to the kitchen kinda question. We also made clear that one of us is also dairy free. The waitress then said that there are butter in it, which was cool of her to inform us of that... but why did on our eggplant appetizer came with ricotta cheese? Sure, we did not specify put the ricotta cheese on the side, just said can you put the provolone on the side (since we failed to see that there were ricotta cheese in the dish)... but I mean come on! We said one of us is dairy free! She should have came back out and asked? But I guess that is too much to expect from her. But here is the best part with the cheese in this eggplant appetizer: it 2 slices of eggplant. It should just be called a cheese dish. So $17 for an eggplant appetizer that we did not really want. What a rip-off. The food. The food was ok. It was overpriced. We ordered the egg plant appetizer to share... So sum up? The food here is just bar food with a gluten free spin to it. NOT PALEO spin. Most things has cheese in it. A paleo diet usually does not include cheese... For people who want a fake paleo meal, this is the place to go! For the real deal, not this place since they cannot even understand what dairy free mean. Go to legal seafood if you want real gluten-free. We will not drive 25min to go there again. Won't drive 5 minutes to go there in fact. Will not go back period! DO NOT RECOMMEND! Would have given it a 1 star, but since the atmosphere was nice, give it a 2 star. read more

A-MA-ZING! Yes busy and small restaurant, yes a tad pricey, BUT you are paying for high quality, FRESH, clean food! I am Gluten Free and my husband is not. We went for our anniversary. Definitely going back! Although the place is small, it was so delicious and I knew the food was great. I really hope that the owners think about expanding because I would hate for them to lose business because people won't go back because of the wait. Ladies....PLEASE expand! You're restaurant is unique and much needed. YUMMY!! read more

Wayyyyy over priced and underportioned !!! Left hungry after 120 dollar bill!! Not my cup of tea

I live the "Primal lifestyle," meaning I do not eat grains and starches. It can be hard to eat at restaurants sometimes when most of what they serve goes against my diet. I love the Paleo menu options available here, and it makes me feel better knowing I have more options to choose from. The prices are a bit more than other local restaurants, but the food is good and the atmosphere is great. My girlfriend and I sat out on the patio for lunch which was nice. Our waitress was the only negative part of the experience. When she would leave the table she would disappear for a long periods of time. After we finished our meals I was really looking forward to the Paelo cookie (one of the main reasons we went), but instead the waitress gave us the check and then disappeared again. I'm still a little bitter I never got my cookie. She was pretty nasty, even realizing it herself, she apologized at one point. I'd never let one waitress spoil the restaurant and would like to give it another try - I will at least be back one day for my cookie! read more

This past Saturday I was searching Yelp for a place to grab a bite before my wife and I attended our nieces skating performance @ the Smithfield Skating Rink. Blackie's reviews stood out and was only 2 miles from the rink. We we arrived at Blackie's about 5:30pm. We were immediately greeted inside the door by a friendly hostess and proceeded to the bar area where we sat at one of the high tables. There are tvs throughout the bar and dining area. There were several people sitting at the bar around the age of 30 and up. There is also an outside patio area to dine. Our waitress came right over with menus telling us they have a new food menu and took our drink order. We had both forgot out cheater glasses and asked the waitress if she had any behind the bar and she did. What a life saver! We ordered a margarita flatbread pizza which was outstanding. While the room began to fill up and get busy Jeannene (Owner) came buy to ask if we would like another cocktail which we quickly obliged. Jeannene came buy again and took the time to chat a few minutes to tell us about the Tavern. As Jeannene says it's all about the food. She's right, it is about great food but with the combination of friendly employees we interacted with and a relaxing atmosphere this is just a place you want to come back to. It also says something to us when we see an owner chip in to help when needed to ensure that the clientele receive a great dining experience. We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely return when we have more time! Jeff - Millis,MA read more
