We went with six people and got reservations the nigjt before. The steaks and chops we big city quality with prices that we expect in small towns! Maybe the best cooked ribeye I have ever had. The chefs trio was probably the thing that was put on out table. Who ever the bartender was, was also A+, drinks were great! This is a place that we will go back to! read more

First time back since the onset of the pandemic and the restaurant is as wonderful as we remembered. Tiffany the owner graciously accommodated our request to be seated away from the nearest table as we are still very covid cautious. Amy our server was stellar- and even wore a mask for us. The food was excellent. Superb steaks cooked to order and outstanding lambchops. The delicious cocktails reflected generous pours and expert bartending. Fabulous desserts- cheesecake and key lime pie ended the evening on a sweet note. We were accompanied by friends from Chicago and they enjoyed the dinner as much as we. Can't wait to come back and dine on the gorgeous patio. Highly recommend read more

I must of gone on an off night. We went on an early Saturday night. We both ordered steaks. The salad buffet was very underwhelming. Lettuce wasn't crisp, the bean salad tasted off. The service was some snotty guy with thick glasses. I saw him smoking outside when we walked in, then he was at our table right away. There was no way there was time for him to clean his hands....ew. Then the steaks. My mom's steaks come out burnt, she ate it anyways. And mine was...I had to send it back twice. And MAN, they just gave us so much attitude. I am not going to buy a steak that's medium well, when I ordered medium rare. Then the next time they sent it, it was black and blue. It was a complete mess, what made it worst was the ATTITUDE. I don't usually send stuff back unless it's really bad. Also, the grill should be cleaned per order. Why? So it doesn't have that gross burnt old taste from other orders. Which the steaks so lovingly had. Go walk by the grill to see for yourself the crusted burnt leftover meats on the grill. And I wasn't impressed with the steak at all. The third steak sent, I lost my appetite. I won't be back. They need to learn the temperature gauge. I can send you a copy from my grill cookbook, just send me a message through here, owners of Blackhawk. read more

We go here almost every time I am out this way visiting my folks, and it is always a good meal. From the grilled garlic toast that you get almost immediately after sitting down, to the desserts at the end of the meal, the food never disappoints. It's all good. A hearty salad bar that goes with every meal, and a flame grill that's right out in the open so you can see them cooking your steak to perfection. I think Peter, one of the owners, knows my Dad and his wife. Everytime we walk in, we get a loud and jovial greeting from Peter, who is usually behind the grill. Or maybe he does that for all of his guests? Not sure, but he also usually stops by our table to tell us tales of his golf outings. He's a real character, and his stories are always hilarious. The decor in this place is outstanding, too. It reminds me of an old school Wisconsin Supper Club. Not fancy, but not low brow either. I imagine this is the kind of place Al Capone might have brought his family to back in the day. All in all, you can expect a great and filling meal, a ton of hospitality, and sometimes even some good storytelling. You can't miss! read more

Decided to give Blackhawk Steak Pit a try while in Oregon for a weekend without the kids. Arriving at 5:30 on a Saturday we were seated right away. We were given Texas toast to start off with...awesome! I had the bacon wrapped scallops and my wife had the salmon. Each entree came with the salad bar. The salad bar was nothing special, but our entrees were great and served the perfect temperature. We left feeling satisfied! The only reason I cannot give a five star rating was our waitress. While attentive to our needs, she did not seem very excited about serving us. I heard other waiters around us give their customers more information, such as upgrades to the standard baked potato or rice, and they seemed generally more excited about their job. But beyond that if you are in Oregon I would recommend dropping by here for dinner! read more

This is a family favorite. The owner, Peter, is very welcoming and made us feel right at home. He interacted with all of us and put a smile on all our faces, especially my three girls. The seats were very comfortable and the grill chef cooked the steaks in plain view. The garlic bread was delicious and their portions are very generous. The food is full of flavor and our steak was cooked to perfection. The steak was on point and I highly recommend this steakhouse. read more

So this is probably one of the best restaurants in Oregon - which mind you is a very small town - but truly this place is good! Make sure to try their strip steak and shrimp scampi - SO GOOD! Final Verdict: Really reasonably priced steakhouse due to the location, great food and service. A must stop if you're in or passing through Oregon! read more

The ambience of the Steak Pit is totally 70's swank. The steaks are awesome, the lamb chops are phenominal, the alligator app is pretty good, the scallops leave nothing to be desired, the saganaki is the best I've ever had. I'm typically the person that would rather cook my own steak at home, this is the only exception. It's owned by two brothers, John & Peter. John is a very subdued, well mannered and courteous host. And then there is Peter. Loud, boisterous, maybe even a bit crass, but all in fun. He will make sure males in your party are dejected, females praised and that all are entertained. If you have low self esteem or can't take a joke this is not the place for you. read more

This place is amazing! I went here a few times when we were getting ready to buy our dog from the breeder out here. It's your traditional country steakhouse. The service is good. The food is huge and delicious! They even have a salad bar that has all of the fix-ins that you would ever need. I don't know when or if I will ever be back in Oregon, but if I do I know that I'll be coming here again. read more

Always great !! Great steaks, great drinks, great service, and great atmosphere. My wife had the Filet and I had the Ribeye. They were both cooked perfect. Salad bar is small but always fresh. If you like blue cheese and butter, you must try the blue cheese butter as a steak topper.....OMG read more

My ribeye had too much fat and was tough. I expected it to be of a better quality for the price.

Best steak house in the area. Feels like an old school 70s dinner club. High quality steaks and tasty sides are what you expect at a classic steakhouse. Prices are high but what steakhouse isn't. Expect $20-$25 per plate. Stop in if you're looking for something more then the burger or pizza that most local joints are offering. read more

This place was an interesting location. They cook the steaks in the middle of the restaurant for the most part. I found it a little unsanitary that the chefs were eating while cooking. Our server was definitely friendly and patient with us, however it seemed she lacked a lot of knowledge on products, such as the wine and steaks. I think this place was a little pricy for the atmosphere. The salad bar wasn't the best, tucked away in the corner and very, very average. It's an okay spot overall, I'm in the middle for returning or not. I most likely would try a new place over this spot. One more note, she must of been the manager, but the person who came over to check on our dining experience barely gave us anytime to respond and completely lacked eye contact. She was already walking away when finishing her sentence. Yeah....she cares. read more

This is the place to go if you want the best steak in Northern Illinois, if not all of Illinois! The new owner Tiffany has brightened the place up and really kept everything else the same (no need to change a good thing!). The best steak on the menu is the filet. You will not be disappointed with any other cuts but the filet is phenomenal. They have many choices for sides, I prefer the Mac and cheese! Its homemade and a great compliment to a perfect steak! Another favorite is the mashed sweet potatoes! I have seen a few comments stating that the salad bar isn't anything special, I feel this is selling it a bit short. You have plenty of options to make a good salad and they also offer potato salad and macaroni salad that are both delicious. Don't fill up on the salad bar because you will want to finish your entire meal! The service is always friendly and the owner Tiffany is always there greeting everyone at the door and frequently checking on all the tables. If you want a great meal and a nice place to eat you won't go home hungry or disappointed! read more

The place for meat if you happen to be in Oregon, IL. Average salad bar & okay sides. The alligator tail really did taste like chicken. But, oh, the meat! The filet was as tender as advertised. Good service & great for big groups. read more

The Steak Pit would thrive in the big city - and it is wonderful to have it in bucolic Oregon, Il., near the Rock River and the famed statue of Blackhawk on the hillside just across the way. The food is fresh, custom prepared, and the host, Peter, is a true Greek - theatrical, greeting guests, serving flaming Saganaki, and keeping the place humming. Peter buys his steaks and seafood rom a premium supplier and everything is cooked to order on an open grill. Wide selection of wine and beer. Folks from nearby larger cities regularly come to Oregon to visit the Steak Pit. read more

A pleasant surprise and we will definitely be back. Our family comes to Oregon often for sporting events. We are there most of the day and have a break for a meal. There isn't much close by unless you want Subway. My husband and I decided to try the Steak Pit. We haven't noticed it before on all our trips along Rt. 2. It's tucked back a bit along the riverside. It looks like a dive when you first pull up but the food is fantastic! The wonderful aroma hits you once you walk in. Can't go wrong w steak here. I had the Kabobs and my hub had the chopped steak. Both came w salad bar (which was just ok). The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Wait staff was really nice. The dark decor could use some updates but kinda adds to the small town local vibe. 2 beers, and 2 entrees $45 (after we used the Yelp check-in offer of 10% off your bill) read more

This place surprised me. Despite great reviews, I wasn't sure it would live up and I was wrong. The steak was absolutely outstanding, if not some of the best I've had. Very old school, supper club vibe which was pretty fun. The wine list leaves a lot to be desired, though; mostly wines easily found in any big box store with much higher prices. Presentation of food could improve for the price, too. read more

We are from the suburbs of Chicago, so are used to high quality restaurants that are easily available. We ordered alligator bites appetizer which was like a very tough Chicken nugget...... House red wine- very very sweet..... For entrees, I had Grouper, which was nicely seasoned and delicious. My husband had a rib eye, nicely seasoned and a large portion. It was a little tough, but he did manage to eat the entire 16 oz piece. I had a couple of tastes, one beautiful and tender, the next tough. We did make a reservation for dinner, many entering before us did not have reservations. We had OK service. We did not partake of the desserts, as the dinner filled us up quite well. read more

About 5 months ago I ate here for the first time, and I was blown away by the food and the service. & I've waited to come back since. I ate here lastnight for dinner...they had already closed due to the fact they didn't have much service. We called them and they answered, lucky the charcoal was still hot enough to make our food. They let us in and we had a private dinner. It was a great time, and the food was just as good as the first time. read more

The food is great in the service is a excellent and you pay for what you get, little pricey, but absolutely worth it!

Several times here. Always consistently good food and great service. Reminds you of old-school supper club Wisconsin style.

My husband and I when there for a romantic Dinner on our mini vacation, Peter the owner made us feel so welcomed. Michelle our waitress made sure our order was done on time. Her husband was the chef . Everyone was so friendly, I order the center lamb and it was so good, My husband had a steak.. Awesome.................... Our family was staying at the Paddle Wheel Inn for a wedding last weekend. We were all tired from the long drive there and just wanted to eat. Luckily, the Blackhawk Steak Pit was at the other end of the parking lot. We'd heard good things and our party of nine went for dinner. They happily accommodated us. We all ordered something different; steak and lobster, fried shrimp basket, pork chops, shish Kabob and cheeseburgers. Every thing was grilled/fried to perfection. The waiter was made sure our glasses stayed full, that we had all that we needed and if our food was done to our satisfaction. Wonderful friendly staff, great food. Everyone in my part raved about their meal. I'd go back again and again. read more

Well our choices were here or the BBQ at the restaurant adjacent to the hotel. We are VERY happy we went here. Two porterhouse steaks, a bottle of wine, an app and it was $90. Bless the small town steak house. They offered free garlic and olive oil on the steaks. Highly recommended. If you are in the area and have a chance to stop by, it is a cannot miss steakhouse. Cheers! read more

Everything about this place is superb. I almost think you have to get a steak when you go. Fantastic! My wife had the Ribeye which took out my Filet but both were well above average. We also had the shrimp cocktail for appetizer - shrimp as big as your head - and was delicious as well. Complimentary salad bar included- bonus. Had both the rainbow cake and the chocolate moose cake for desert (special occasion for anniversary). All in all -great vibe, great customer service- you can't go wrong. It's a 5 Star restaurant. Period. read more

In town for work, I came here my first night in Oregon. Homie environment with nice staff, great open grill in the middle of the restaurant. Got a great steak, cooked perfectly, and a loaded baked potato with everything you could ask for. I'd recommend this place to anyone who asked, and I'll look forward to my next visit. read more

Not very good. Interesting dinning environment though. Reminded me of The Old 96er in The Great Outdoors with John Candy.

Dinner here last night again. We are addicted; drive 35 miles to get here. The owner: awesome. The chef: none better. The food: to die for. The waitstaff: prompt, attentive, friendly, genuine. If you haven't been here for awhile you owe it to yourself to try it, especially since the new owner took over. (I would say any negative posted reviews earlier than fall of 2013 are no longer valid.) She has really ramped up the fresh seafood selection; escargot is her recipe as is the loaded baked potato. Both to die for. We could just as easily drive into Oak Brook or Schaumburg to Morton's or Capital Grill, but will take this place over them any day of the week. Oh and let's not forget the bartender. Knowledgeable and expertly makes each drink. Can't wait to go back! read more

When my Mom suggested we go out for a steak dinner in my brother's tiny town I was skeptical. Boy, was I impressed with the Blackhawk Steak Pit restaurant in Oregon, IL. All six of us enjoyed our meals at this quaint steakhouse. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops and flaming greek cheese as appetizer. Both were amazing. My filet mignon was among the top filets I've had in any city in the US. It was savory, well-cut, and cooked to perfection. It's important to point out my steak was a 10 oz filet, not a 6 or 8 oz like many restaurants serve. Our server was prompt, attentive, and friendly. My husband enjoyed some of the unique offerings on the beer menu. I truly enjoyed an amazing meal and would definitely return the next time I'm anywhere near Oregon, IL. This place is worth the drive! read more

I can not say enough about this place. Their steaks are amazing and always cooked perfect to temperature. Their seafood specials may be the best outside of Chicago's fine dining restaurants (that charge a lot more). And let's not forget their sides and appetizers (or salad bar), the Alligator bites are out of this world!! The staff is always pleasant and helpful, making your visit as pleasant as it should be. The owner Tiffany always comes around and asks how your food was and make sure that you are satisfied. I don't know what else a restaurant needs than what was mentioned above, so go and enjoy a night just west of the Rock River. read more

We went for new years eve, we have done that a few years now. Food was great as always but our service was terrible. Our friend had to remind our waitress 3 times what beer he ordered, we had to remind her twice that we needed more bread. We ate late so it wasn't super busy. She never told us what the specials were and brought our checks before I could even order dessert, we ended up spending half of what we normally do while there, good for us bad for them... its a good thing we like their food read more

Excellent meal. Service was attentive and friendly, steaks were tender and glavorful. We will definitely be back.

Was an out standing sirloin, cook exactly how ordered. Our waitress was on point the whole night.

This place has been around for a long time and "back in my day" it was really good. Loved the flaming goat cheese, it was such a treat to see it go up in flames as a kid. Now days, my parents have rediscovered this place under it's new ownership and they visit often. I am happy that they have found a place to call their own but personally, I am not a fan. We went once to give it a new try... I ordered scallops and they were not cooked (so yuck). My son ordered a hamburger patty of some sort and it was bloody raw (gross). The bread is very, very hard. The lighting is so dim that it is difficult to see especially when you first walk in. The salad bar was nothing to write home about either. This was all in one visit. It was my last visit to date. Not sure if I would give them another shot or not. read more
