I was playing softball with my company team on Sunday night and as I was leaving I mistakenly drove off with my shoes and wallet on the trunk of my car. I realized this by the time I got to my destination so I ended up retracing my route in a panic desperately attempting to find my black wallet along the side of the road in the middle of the night... ugh. Of course I never found the wallet, but when I got home I had an e-mail from one of the guys that is an umpire for Kreig saying that he found it. He was super nice and had tried several means of contacting from my business card and other info in inside as well as calling my bank to let them know that he had found the lost wallet. Well I got it back the next day and I bought him a beer to show my appreciation. Because this guy was so cool I will go ahead and bump them up to a full 5 stars. Here's to good karma!

In fact, I think it is strictly softball. My husband plays on the softball team for Whole Foods. (GO HUGH!) Once a week my darling husband dons his cleats, team shirt (the Ten Hit Misfits), shorts, and ball cap, sticks a six pack of Lone Star in a cooler and gathers up his glove and sunglasses for a few innings at the ball park. The closer we get to the field the more he fidgets until he's worked himself into such a state of softball fervor that when we arrive he leaps from the car to slap hands with teammates, swig from a can, and throw the softball around- he calls this part "warming up". Now, some Austinites probably prefer the shiny newness of Dell Diamond, all of the concessions they have to offer, the cute uniforms the players wear, how fast they can throw the ball, etc, etc. While Krieg Field offers none of the above, true fans will appreciate the PASSION that the players here bring to the game. You can see it in the jaunty way they turn the bases, albiet middle-aged bellies jigglin and thighs-a-burnin. You can see it in the focus of the umps, all seriousness, spitting on the field, rubbing themselves, and shouting incoherently at the players. You can see it in the fans, all 5 of them, cheering and clapping and laughing hysterically at the foibles and often truly remarkable plays made by their significant others. (No, really.) When a team wins, it is pure joy....beers passed around, all, "Did you see that slide? Man..." "Dude. I TOTALLY tagged him out! That was an OUT!" All hand slapping and "Good game!" and "Let's go to the bar!" When teams lose, it is silent car rides home and regretful re-plays of mistakes made. It's dirty bathrooms (minus one star), dirty players, BYOB, cool breezes and sunsets, FREE all-American hilarious and sometimes tragic FUN.

I see that Yelp is claiming this course is closed it is not. I played $45 per person to play this…read morecourse on MLK day. I do not give out low ratings lightly. I have wondered if two stars is too high. The staff was extremely friendly so that is the only reason I am giving it two. The course should be shut down. I get it is January and the grass would be dormient. That does not explain the "moon scape" of the fairways. Huge potholes everywhere. The tee boxes are so hard you can't get tees in them. Then there are the tee boxes that have backhoe damage on them. Why is a backhoe on a tee box? Then the greens are a joke. The sand traps have rocks in them. If I had paid $15 maybe it would be ok. That is a huge maybe. My husband and I play golf a lot all over the world. This is the worst course conditions we have ever had. It may have been better not to play golf? We looked on line and saw they had some tee times the day of so that is why we went. The price on line was $38. We drove there and to book there on sight was $45. The day wasn't great as well as the pace of play was so so so slow. We had a four some of ladies playing best ball. Two of the four couldn't hit the ball more than four feet or swang and miss. I am all for newbies. Especially ladies. However, you got to be smart about it. It wouldn't have been difficult to let us play through either as we were usually at the tee box with them. Thankfully, they stopped at the turn and only played nine and that is when we found out it really didn't matter because they had a foursome in front of them that was drunk and as bad at golf as the ladies with mouths of sailors. We got so fed-up we drove through on hole 13. I don't know if I have seen people so drunk on a golf course in a while. I do blame the lady at the front. It was clear she knew them. We were a twosome. We knew it was going to be slow, but we could have also gone off before them. When we drove through the last foursome, we didn't have anyone in front of us the rest of the round no matter how fast we went. We play fast. Additionally, on the front nine we had the two some behind us drive into us three times. It is so unacceptable. We were stuck between a slow foursome and a fast twosome. The last time he hit into us I drove back to him and said please go in front of us and see what we are dealing with. I wish I could say it was one guy. We got hit into again on the back nine by another player. Unreal! It sort of speaks to the type of players on this course. Newbies, that drink while they play and don't get the unspoken rules of golf. Do note there is no attire restrictions on this course. Overall, a bad day on a golf course is a better than a day at work but this wasn't really golf. This was hitting a white ball in the hill country. Save your money and time and go elsewhere. We had played here before, so we know it wasn't this bad the last time we played here. Hard to say is it going down or is it on its way up. Along the river you can see they are doing some work, but we will not be back. Not for the condition of the course.

Nothing fancy, just a good old fashioned burger cooked on an old/seasoned flattop grill. All of the prices are super great!!! You can't go wrong at this place. Cold beer and sodas...and some snack food too! The dance floor is nice and big in the center of the hall. Lots of tables and chairs around the dance floor. The chairs aren't super comfortable, but we were dancing most of the time so it didn't bother me. If there is a band on Friday or Saturday night, get there early and enjoy a great country experience!!!
