Horrible customer service. We waited in line for about 20 minutes before being told we were in the wrong lane and needed to move to another one. The lane we were directed into was not clearly marked, and by that point we were already stuck in line with no easy way to switch. I explained that we had already been waiting and that the confusion was due to unclear signage, but the staff refused to take our order, saying it would disrupt their queue. Rather than helping resolve the situation, they simply turned us away. The interaction was rude and unhelpful, so we chose to leave without ordering. read more

Honest, it's sad to post so low and I rarely do but today was such terrible service. We aren't from Salem so don't know that one side is for pre order only . Went in that side and sat for about 5-6 minutes while the workers inside were talking to a friend in line on the bother side. By the time they acknowledged we were sitting there . They said " are you picking up a drink?" I said yes but we haven't ordered yet and she told me I had to drive around to the other side . I looked at her like huh? And she said that line is for pre order only .When I got there the only other car was the one she was talking to, by the time I got told to move to other side I was behind 4 other cars. It's not been another 8-9 minutes and only one car has cleared . I can't get out of line because there is now 4 cars behind me. I get that we made a mistake but just take my order and get people thru the line!! There is still no one in other side and we all just sit here waiting . So very frustrating . Still sitting here and it's now been 12 minutes plus orig, time I waited on other side . Not good at all for customer service read more

I started coming here regularly because I enjoyed their drinks a lot, especially their low sugar / SF options. Unfortunately, the service just isn't that great. I received a promotional email advertising a free medium drink if I bought one drink. I purchased two drinks, but when I arrived they would not honor the promotion because I ordered ahead through the app. I thought this was strange, but I suggested cancelling the mobile app order and reringing it up outside of the app to apply the promotion, but they refused to do this as well. Basically the email was just to lure me in to pay full price. I get it, a free $6 drink isn't a huge deal, and I had already spent hundreds at this place. But it was the fact that I felt tricked into coming in for a specific promotion and them refusing the promotion that rubbed me the wrong way. I've had Dutch Bros proactively offer free drinks for mistakes without even asking for it, so it was a weirdly jarring and unexpected experience. I personally won't be returning here, but I gave it 2 stars because I genuinely like their drinks, you just can't trust their deals or promotions, or for them to fix their mistakes if they mess up your drink. read more

I truly hate to leave a bad review, but I'm just very bummed. I don't live nor work near a black rock so I only really get to have a drink when I come to Salem to visit my boyfriend. I had been thinking about my drink allll damn day. I mean it's Monday, I'm stuck at work and I'm craving this nice fuel. Anyway, I love this Black Rock, the girls working here are always so sweet and chatty, this was my first time meeting the guy here though. We accidentally went through the pick up line, that's our fault, so the guy comes over and has us move to the other side. As we're ordering he has us both repeat our drinks several times (so he seriously shouldn't have messed them up). Whatever, he can't hear us well, I'm ordering my drink from the passenger seat and my bf is soft-spoken so I guess he couldn't hear him too well when he ordered his either. So several times, I say I want mine blended, I'm excited for the taste and the texture. My boyfriend orders his drink with No cold foam, again, he says that to him several times. So, as you can guess... my drink is iced not blended. His has cold foam. Not a big deal we still got the flavor drinks we wanted, but ugh. They're not expensive but not particularly cheap. $13 for a couple of small drinks that were made improperly. Maybe we should've said something, but this guy was there alone and to be fair we went 15 minutes before closing so maybe he was antsy to get us out of there. We're not gonna have him remake two drinks when he's trying to get ready to close up. But jeez, would've taken him the same amount of time to get them right. read more

The service was amazing and the staff made sure that she heard my order right by repeating back and than asked if there was anything else I wanted. The service was fast as well for a busy coffee stand. This place never disappoints. I also like how they now have added to the menu where you can add fruit to your drinks of choice. Stopped in twice while visiting town. Both times it took ages to get my drink - 10 minutes for a regular coffee? - which was just so-so. On one trip I ordered food and waited nearly 20 minutes for a to-go order. When I inquired I was told they couldn't find me (I was standing in plain sight, holding my number). Staff wasn't unfriendly, but no one seemed thrilled to be there. Not a fan of the customers with guns on their hips, but maybe that's the norm in that area? read more

The coffee here is always good! What I look forward to the most tho is the interaction with the baristas. Malyah is always so sweet and kind, she always remembers my order. I love how she is so personable, she is always smiling and so upbeat! Sometimes I even get a heart on my cup, those special interactions go a long way! Jaylyn is another person that is always super kind! She always gets my order right as well! She makes sure to ask how my day is and how I've been. I can tell this is more then just a job to them! They both make a point to make each interaction special, it's not just getting coffee. There's a couple other girls as well that are always super nice, but I'm not sure of their names. The staff at black rock are always friendly and treat you more than just someone ordering a drink. One thing I love is their coffee isn't super sweet like other coffee shops! Even when they have a huge line they always take the time to ask how your day is, start a conversation or even ask about plans for the holidays rather than just "what can I get you." Love supporting the little guy and this place fits the bill in the battle against Starbucks. Black Rock is a drive thru coffee shop... looks cool on the outside with it's black exterior and red star, but the real star is the coffee's flavor. More mild than that Seattle based company, I prefer the more subtle coffee flavor here... seems less acidic. There's no interior seating or wifi, just a two sided drive thru. But the speed and efficacy of the friendly staff more than make up for it. I grab a cup before getting on the road to Portland. Solid. Try it. read more

I'm an avid Dutch Bros. fan, and I have worked in coffee shops before so I know a lot about espresso, etc. I'm a big fan of Black Rock and will come here more often than going to Dutch Bros. for a couple of reasons. I really like the customer service, which is a big deal. When I specify a drink order, I watch them and they always make it exactly how I want it. They're really friendly, but don't act fake, and they're really fast at making the drinks, and it's always consistent. They also have a few locations in Beaverton and the Portland area which is great since I live there now. I love their white chocolate mochas, it's not overly sweet, but my favorite is their pumpkin chai during Winter, it just hits the spot. They're very similar to Dutch Bros. when it comes to their drinks, I think they're just a tad bit cheaper though. read more

So I have given this place my business 4 times now in the past few months. Each time the service is friendly, but for some reason the coffee is not up to par. I have ordered the same thing each time, the blondie, and each time it's different. The first time it was hot and delicious (more tasty than Dutch bros I'd say). Trip two, it was horribly bitter and I couldn't even finish it. #3-barista never bothered to ask hot or cold, and both my blondies came out as flavored ice. I just moved to Salem, Oregon. The ol' ball and chain (sorry babe) and I were driving by and saw a black kiosk with cheerleader-type girls out front waving signs. Come to find it's a grand opening of a coffee place we've never tried. So we turned around and lo and behold, it's their first day open and are offering $1 any 16oz drink specials. So we pull in and wait in the (obviously, duh) long line in drive-thru. When we get to the window (actually only took about fifteen minutes), the girl taking our order was extremely friendly. Everyone was hustling with two windows open. We both got our blended mocha's and were on our way after a few more friendly words with barista/window chick. We went back the next day and had a $2 Tuesday blended mocha...again. Great stuff. Will be back often. Thank everyone! read more

To ward of an impending caffeine withdrawal headache, we had three choices that were practically right next to each other. Received a solid americano with 3 shots of espresso put into my personal mug. Was very impressed as we desperately needed coffee after the watery hotel stuff we experienced on a road trip through the area. Extra benefit to support the smaller businesses rather than the chain next door. The coffee alone was reason enough to choose Black Rock. Will definitely be back. read more
