You gotta check them out. Very tasty food, huge portions. This is what I'd call elevated, these guys know what they are doing.

My parents owned the spot years ago when it was Timmy Cafe. They sold the spot to Laurence's mom and she in turn sold it to him. The space is bright and the food is fire. There's not a lot of seating but there's a steady stream of people ordering to go. Laurence will also host pop up experiences for local chefs. My daughter loves their plain congee. I'm a big fan of the Rubato Fun Fun. The brisket in there tells you that Laurence knows how to make Chinese brisket the right way. They also have an amazing brisket steamed bao. The Fun Fun is loaded with everything you would want on a cheung fun dish mixed together. The highlight for me and keeps me coming back is the bolo fried chicken sandwich. There's so much going on between the sweet, flaky, and fluffy bolo bao, filled with a generous serving of a delectable fried chicken and saucy slaw. You get a complex mixture of flavors and textures in every bite. It can get messy, so lean forward and eat over your dish. I love that Laurence is often in the store and giving time to the fans of his TV cooking competitions. His team are also super competent and kind. I used Rubato catering for an event and the participants are still raving about the spread months later. Don't sleep on this local celebrity spot!

The first item we tried was the HK French Toast Lava Egg Yolk which tbh is always a winner for my husband and I no matter where we get it. The second item we tried was the Cha Siu Bolo Bao. I'm usually not a big cha siu person so it was just okay for me. The bolo bao is also not quite what I expected, it has a different texture to it than most bolo baos. Overall not bad but just not for me. The last item was the salt pepper chicken with rice which we didn't expect much from but loved. The chicken has a nice crunch but also juicy. The seasoning used is also delicious. All in all a delicious meal and we will definitely be back! I'd skip the bolo bao next time though.

From the moment you step inside Comfort Kitchen, you're transported into a different world. The space somehow feels cozy, welcoming, and familiar all at once. The lively chatter of diners engaged in friendly conversation blends perfectly with the incredible aromas drifting from the open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs tirelessly transform familiar ingredients into truly extraordinary dishes. What makes this place so special is its ability to take flavors and ingredients you may recognize and elevate them into something completely unique. Every dish arrives looking like a work of art, bursting with color and presentation. Then you take a bite, and somehow the flavors are even more impressive than the visuals. The creativity, execution, and attention to detail are simply world-class. This may be one of Boston's best-kept secrets, but I have a feeling it won't remain a secret for much longer. I visited during my first trip to Boston with several coworkers, and by the end of the meal we all reached the same conclusion: whenever we're anywhere remotely near Boston again, Comfort Kitchen will be a mandatory stop. In fact, our biggest challenge wasn't deciding what to order. It was accepting that we simply didn't have enough room to try everything that sounded amazing on the menu. We're already talking about what we'll order on our next visit. Comfort Kitchen isn't just a restaurant. It's an experience. Make a reservation. Seriously. Like, right now.

Even more exciting, Jamie is due in December with our third grandchild, another little girl, so we had plenty to celebrate. We started with Bang Bang Cauliflower, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and Shrimp Cocktail, and every appetizer was a great choice. The girls ordered an Aperol Spritz, an Espresso Martini, and a soda water with lime while I kept it simple with a Bud Light. For dinner, Jamie and I both ordered the steak tips with mashed potatoes and spinach. The steak tips were cooked perfectly, and the Parmesan mashed potatoes were especially good. Regen enjoyed the avocado salad with chicken, while Cheryl had filled up on appetizers and happily shared some bites from my plate. The food easily earns 5 stars. Everything we ordered was delicious. I'd give the atmosphere 4 stars. It was comfortable, lively, and a great place to spend a couple of hours catching up. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star overall experience was the service. I'd give that 3 stars. Perhaps our waitress was new or simply having an off night, but she was very inattentive. Several times she walked past our table without checking in while we were waiting to order more drinks, place our appetizer order, and later our dinner order. I would even call out to her and she just walked by. The good news is that it didn't put a damper on the evening. We were having such a great time talking, laughing, and celebrating that the slow lack of service was easy enough to overlook. Overall, I'd give Brick & Beam 4 stars. Great food, a nice atmosphere, and despite the service hiccups, we had a wonderful night celebrating Jamie's birthday. To top it all off, we took a short walk down the street afterward and finished the evening with ice creams from Dairy Freeze. It was the perfect ending to a great family night!
