My experience with Black Hills, Inc. was exceptional from beginning to end. It began with Devin, who serviced our HVAC systems and recommended the installation of a split unit in our sunroom. From there, David Griffis took the time to provide thorough information and answer all of our questions. He was consistently helpful, knowledgeable, and highly professional throughout the entire process. Melissa did an excellent job coordinating and scheduling the installation team. One aspect of their communication that particularly stood out was the consistent updates provided through both text and email, including photographs of the technicians and notifications regarding their arrival times. This level of professionalism and customer service was truly impressive. Brian and his assistant arrived promptly, conducted themselves courteously, and completed the split unit installation efficiently and professionally. Joshua, the electrician, and his assistant then completed the electrical work seamlessly. Overall, this team of professionals provided us with an outstanding temperature control system that we will greatly enjoy in our sunroom. This company is way overpriced and gouges its customers. Recently, had a new kitchen faucet installed - took 25 minutes to install a Moen faucet (retail about $180 at Home Depot) and charged $990. In addition, had a new outdoor faucet replaced including new PVC fitting and was charged $1,660. These prices were outrageous and I confirmed that this company gouges Seniors. I checked with three other major plumbing companies in the Olympia area this morning and their prices for the same two jobs would have been 40-60% less than Black Hills. I was the fool for falling for their slick Comfort Pass benefits. If I could give zero stars, I would. I called Black Hills to fix what I already knew was likely a bad capacitor on my AC. Instead of fixing it, the technician told me I had a million things wrong with both my AC and furnace. Then they sent out a salesman who tried every scare tactic in the book to pressure me into spending $27,000 on a brand-new furnace and AC. Thankfully, I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. Another licensed technician confirmed my suspicion -- nothing was wrong with my furnace or AC. All I needed was a simple $16 capacitor replacement. That's it. Black Hills tried to turn a basic $16 repair into a $27,000 sale. This is predatory, dishonest, and downright shameful. So instead of a $2500-$2900 price for a service like 3 other locations quoted me, this technician quoted us $5100 during the initial call. Luckily I wasn't a sucker, and got the service completed by a different company for less than $2800. I have used Black Hills the past 2 years to perform routine annual maintenance on a mini split indoor and outdoor unit. My technician showed up within the window of time they were scheduled. completed the maintenance tasks. While performing the indoor work, a ladder slid against a wall causing 7-8 inch of wall damage. I reached out with an Email and followed that up 3 days later with a phone call to see what their plans were for the damage. I was told the person who handles these type of issues would be calling to take care of this situation. I have now fixed the wall damage myself. Last time I use this company. read more

If I could give zero stars to this company, I would. They are irrevocably unethical, both morally and spiritually. Back in November, I had one of their sales reps come out and give me a quote for a heat pump and an AC, along with that, a new breaker box, because the breaker that the house had was too old and out of date. The Sales rep gave me a quote for both an AC and a Heat Pump, and gave me time to think it over because I wanted to discuss it with my wife, who wanted to get quotes from other places because she felt that Black Hills wasn't quite up to snuff (oh if i had read reviews on this place before using them). Once my wife and I had discussed, and we'd had other quotes, we decided to go with Black Hills, I called the Sales Rep and informed him that we were decided on the AC, and that we would be ready in January for this to go down. The quotes are as follows, rounded up to the nearest dollar because I don't remember everything off the top of my head: New breaker box installation: 6,700. Heat Pump with new furnace: 19,000 AC with new furnace: 11,700 So I told the rep, that we would go with the AC, and that was that. Had I known then, what I know now about their unethically and immoral deceptive bait and switch tactics and not writing out contracts, I would not have gone with Black Hills, and instead gone with one of the other companies who actually sent out things for me to sign. Fast Forward to the installation of the AC, that took an entire day, since it was a furnace take out and install, as well as the AC (or what I thought was the AC). At the end, the install team informed me that when they turned it on for testing, that the pumps were missing the refrigerant stuff, and that they would be back next week with a new unit that had the stuff in it. so Fast forward to that next week when the install guy came back, took the unit out and installed the next one. Whilst that was going on, the final bill was sent via email. When I opened it to pay the bill, I noticed that I was charged for the heat pump at 19,000. I asked the install guy about it and he didn't know, but he called the office and had the sales rep call me. The sales rep informed me that we had agreed on the heat pump, and I told him no we agreed on the AC. He then informed me that the quote was for the Heat Pump, and that was that. So I called a relative who used to be in sales and asked for help. Said relative called and spoke to the rep and to the home office, I'm not sure what happened, but they took 3,500 off the price. To sum it up: Do not use this company; they are morally, spiritually, and ethically bankrupt. Make sure you get quotes signed and verified, and that they are giving you what you want if you have to use this company. read more

It pains me to write this bad review. The technicians are friendly and knowledgeable, but the prices they want for their services are beyond ridiculous. I asked about them replacing my hot water heater. The guy quoted me $8,600. I asked him if I could see how he came up with that number and he said "no". I called the office 3 different times to inquire about it and all 3 times was told, "we will get back to you". They never called me back. I ended up doing it myself for $900. They quoted me $880 to replace an outside hose bib. I did it myself for $77. They quoted me $340 to replace a 3/4" pvc condensation line from my furnace. I did it myself for 25 cents and 20 minutes of cleaning. The other day, I got a charge on my debit card for $206 from them. I called them up to inquire. They said it was the renewal on my yearly maintenance plan. I said I would not like to renew. They indicated that it was not refundable. I've had enough of this company !! It just never ends. They have lost the vision of "serving their customers" !! I highly recommend looking elsewhere! read more

For complete transparency: Called Black Hills because power was lost in back of house. I contacted them via yelp and was informed of the dispatch fee but they failed to mention the diagnosis and repair fee until the technician arrived. Tyler was great at finding the issue: a circuit breaker was not secured with a screw. Tyler went a bought a new circuit breaker and reinstalled it. The power is back on in that room. But the total cost was $744.86! Cost break down: $129 dispatch fee (just for them to come out). Then there is a flat diagnostic and repair fee of $550. The diagnostic and repair charges should be separate and relevant to the work completed. Some repairs may actually only be less than $100 (like mine) and some maybe more but a flat fee is ridiculously high. Tyler was great though, professional, friendly, and did a great job. I'm not happy with the final bill and I know it's not Tyler's fault but Black Hills needs to do better because their pricing seems predatory and excessive for a circuit breaker issue. I live in a 1971 mobile home. My hot water line broke off of my sink faucet and flooded my bathroom on 9/13/2024. I called Black Hills on 9/14/2024 after determining that I wouldn't be able to fix the plumbing myself. I told Black Hills that it was mobile home because sometimes plumbers and electricians won't touch mobile homes due to different types of standards. When Black Hills came out, I was greeted by Greg. He told me that I would have to go through a mitigation expert because the bathroom floor was too spongy (the flood happened three days prior) and potential black mold. They wanted me to replace my hot water heater, get new piping and a new faucet for this simple repair. So, I paid my $141.51 just for them to look at it and they referred me to a mitigation expert who came at the same day. The mitigation expert told me that all I needed to do was place a piece of plywood on the floor and didn't see any black mold and told me to go ahead and get the plumbing fixed. I bought the plywood to be placed on the floor and made an appointment online for Saturday morning (9/21/2024). Black Hills called me up and said they don't do weekends and the plywood was not enough. They wanted me to have the mitigation company to destroy my entire bathroom before they could work on it. They claimed it was an OSHA violation to do the plumbing. I promptly fired Black Hills and got another plumber, told them this story, and they told me they were willing to work on it by making a simple repair. The new plumber even came out for free just to look at it. Now I am out of $141.51+tax for work that never got done from Black Hills. read more

Never ever use Black Hills Heating and Cooling .A Black Hills electrician came out to bid wiring our new hot tub. An older hot tub was to be hauled away. We hoped to be able to use the existing conduit and run new wire for code requirements. Their bid included us having to provide a new ditch for one of the conduit lines. Their bid estimate was $3,935. We hired another local electrical company that did the job for $1029, and it was not necessary to dig another trench. So Black Hills wanted to charge $2906 more for the same job. This is outrageous. read more

I do not recommend this company. The only reason I have given one star is because I cannot leave a zero stars. I used to recommend this company, but in the past few years I have had some distressing interactions with it. They installed a heat pump system in my home and I signed up for the comfort pass and have had people come out to "service" the system every 6 months. While I was presented with a checklist of what they supposedly had been doing to keep the system running in top order, my last visit the technician was surprised that his records showed maintenance that clearly had not been done, throughout the system. He actually took the system apart and performed the maintenance for the first time in 5 years. We were willing to over look this as the system is in good order and the folks that we have dealt with in the HVAC area have been kind and, we thought, transparent. This brings me to why I am writing this review. We had a plumbing leak in our home and called the company we used to have faith in, to help us get the repairs complete. It has been a complete eye opener and disappointing in ways I will not detail here. Lack of billing and service transparency is high on the list. We had purchased and had present the shower pan that we wanted installed providing the plumber a template so he could determine the best locations to run the water feeds (pex) and shower drain. He ran water lines through the floor joists (which is normal) but ended up deciding to cut a large square out of the last joist to run the water feed lines up to the mixer rather than drilling holes through and running feed lines up which meant we ended up having to purchase a different pan with a different drain location or cut into the joist next to this one for the drain, which would be out of code and compromise the integrity of the house. We have now had weeks added to the project as well as added expenses. Upon contacting the company to question the practices, the demeanor of the plumber and the outrageous bill, that did not cover the entirety of the work needed, we were listened to, told "oh, I'm sorry this happened, we hope we don't lose you as a client" and that has been it. I have been a client for over 22 years. To say I am disappointed, is putting it lightly. For a company to basically say, yeah we charged you thousands of dollars for the moving of water lines and an air vent in a bathroom, and we will not detail the expenses for you, just tell you we take the national average and adjust it for Olympia, means nothing to me other than, they do not want to be transparent. I believe I was taken advantage of and I am posting this so other people can beware, even if you are backed into a corner and have to get the work done. I now wish I would have contacted someone else who would have been more transparent throughout the process and would have handled concerns better than, "oh, were so sorry this happened to you, hope we don't lose you as a client", after a multi-thousand dollar bill. read more

I purchased 2 heat pump systems from this company over the years along with the Maintenance Package (they come out to claim and maintain your furnace 2 times a year). My heat pump was working when they came out last week to clean the unit. I came home a few house after the service was completed to a cold house. The unit stopped working. I called and explained and asked if the technician could come back out and look at it and identify the problem. I was told there would be a service fee of over $100. I once again explain that it was working, the tech cleaned it and it stopped working. She repeated they would have to charge a service fee to look at it. I'm not sure where the customer service of this company went along the way side. For years, I was alway happy. So I called Sunset Air. Something was not correctly out pack so a wire wasn't where it should be ( I have no mechanical ability to describe the issue). In a few minutes of tightening a screw the system was up and working. No charge to me. Now that's customer service. Next time your in need of a system or repairs, I'd suggest a company that values its customer base. read more

My Fiance was widowed just over 3 years ago. She has a 4300 sq ft home on 21 acres that was left for her to manage on her own. These thieves charged her 70k for two heat pumps! That is not a typo. I asked for an itemized list of what she wss charged for, and they stopped contacting me. She thought she was doing what needed to be done and they took full advantage. I have yet to speak to a single person in the business that has been remotely close to what they had her spend. If i could take them to court, I would. Do not trust this company! They will put a lien on your house!!! I purchased a house in the spring of 2021 that had central air and a furnace from when it was originally built in 2005. The furnace worked great, had been serviced regularly according to the service sticker on the furnace and was quiet. During the summer we were having multiple heat waves reaching over 100°f so I decided to look into getting AC. The home inspector that inspected my house recommended black hills to me during inspection as a company to hire to do routine maintenance on my original furnace. So, I figured i would give them a call to inquire about the maintenance plan per the inspectors recommendation and also about air conditioning. They sent a sales guy out pretty quickly who gave me a few options but highly recommended a new furnace and heat pump combo. I knew absolutely nothing about air conditioning as I have never had it before. I asked a few general questions, got the pricing and discussed it with my significant other. My significant other did his research on the furnace and heat pump and decided to call them back out to ask a few more questions. The same sales guy came over and we discussed pricing again, benefits of the heat pump combo over just attaching AC etc. and we decided to go forward with purchasing the furnace & heat pump combo for $15,700.00. We wanted to explore a loan through our bank but the sales guy let us know that they have great financing options. The salesman NEVER told us it was a 3rd party lender. I assumed black hills had their own lending program. We start the application and the sales guy is asking me for all of my personal information and he is the one typing it in to his iPad. I asked if I could type it in because I didn't feel comfortable telling him all of my personal information. He seemed taken back and demeanor changed. He said he could send me a link to my email to fill it out on my own. When I was filling out the info he briefly went over the "agreement" which he stated that it was just agreeing to the amount of $15,700.00 and that I agree to pay it in X amount of months with X amount of interest etc. I have had several loans through my life so I figured this contract would be similar to the others I've had. NEVER EVER did the sales guy mention ANYTHING about their trusted 3rd party lender requiring a Lien on my house. I only found out about the Lien when I went onto the assessor website several months later to pull up property tax records and clicked on my documents and saw that there was a lien on my house for the HVAC. I was instantly sick to my stomach. It is one thing to breeze over small print but it's a whole other thing when you knowingly DO NOT disclose incredibly important information like that to your customer. I would have stopped the loan instantly and went with sourcing the loan from my personal bank. And my thoughts are that the sales guy knew that, which is why he was trying to fill out MY application for me and when I asked to fill out myself, he then decided to "go over" our agreement but completely skipping over the lien detail. I called Salal credit union which is who they used, to ask questions and the representative who took my call told me that unfortunately, they do have dealers (in this case black hills) who leave out that detail about the lien but that Salal does extensive training for its dealers to ensure they understand their lending program in full. There was no doubt in that representatives mind that Black Hills was fully aware of the lien requirement. I HATE this stupid system. It broke down 6months after install during the coldest days recorded in WA state since the 50's. I had no other heat source other than a small space heater for my two story home until they were able to come out. It's incredibly loud. I can be at my friends house who have a larger system since their house is much larger and I don't hear a thing but in my house I constantly hear it running. I no longer have central air meaning the fan option doesn't work. I only have heat or air conditioning. And back to the sleeze ball sales guy, on my contract it was stated that I had a google nest smart thermostat that was to be used so I didn't have to pay for their thermostat. The google nest was the latest version at the time and tested to be compatible with heat pump hybrid systems at the voltage that my current hybrid system is and when the install team came out, they removed my nest! They told me they couldn't use it because it would void the warranty on the system if there was a failure that could be deemed to be caused by the nest. I had just spent $250 on that nest literally 30 days before they came out and now I couldn't even use it. Their service technicians are always friendly which is nice. But it's not worth it. Save yourself the hassle and find a different company that is going to have morals. read more

There is a constant problem with my hvac mini splits. They cannot figure this out. Was promised new filters at 6 months and 1 year- to no avail. Manager is always on vacation. Our furnace blower motor fried, Ryan and a trainee came out, verified the problem and quoted me a price for ~$1000 for a blower motor. I told Ryan that I'd been looking at replacement blower motors for around $200 on Amazon and other websites that unfortunately cater only to HVAC professionals. He shook his head and dismissed those "Amazon" blowers. Fine, whatever. I asked if the blower motor model would be on the final emailed invoice, and Ryan said "sure". They also tried to upsell me a $300 capacitor to replace the $20 one on my heat pump. Wtf? The two technicians were here for 2 hours, total cost $1200 (all of this is on our security cameras). The motor wasn't on the invoice, so I pulled the model number from the motor itself. A web search shows a new motor of that model between $120-$150. So much better than the $200 Amazon ones I looked at, huh Ryan? Used car salesmen have more scruples than you. When we called the office to ask for a detailed invoice for hourly work, material cost, etc., we were told they don't calculate "per hour". So how do you calculate it? Do you look around the environment and estimate the highest financial burden the customer can bear? Even at 100% markup the blower motor would cost $300 maximum, leaving $900 for the work. Absolute scum. We asked to speak to someone in management, and we were told (on a Wednesday morning) that their higher-ups were "in a meeting" through Friday. They must be too busy counting their money to deal with customer complaints, it seems. Black Hills HVAC is a company of deceptive and smug criminals. Never again will I use this company, and I will absolutely light them up to family, friends, co-workers, and on social media. They are absolute rip-off artists, and their Google reviews are a sham. Made an appointment for an electrician to come to our house to install an electric outlet in the garage. They gave us a time frame of 2:00-3:00 PM for the electrician. He didn't arrive until 4:30, never calling to say he'd be late. The job took about 30 minutes and they charged us $450. The work was adequate but not great. After he left I found a couple screws laying on the garage floor, presumably dropped by him or his assistant. I wouldn't use the company again. A couple years ago I had Black Hills install a heat pump and air blower at another house. When they left my house they left a gate to my backyard open and forgot to put a closet door back on that they had removed. My dog got out of my yard through the open gate but fortunately I found him down the street. Not the way to run a business. read more

Called them to look at an older AC and heating system and recommend repairs and got the most confusing quote I have ever received with a total of 5 different quotes, with each having completely different repairs. Finally decided on what we wanted done and were ready to give a credit card and have them do the work on what was an empty house so assumed they could just come and do the work. Due to a policy that makes zero sense they required someone had to be at the house in a window from 8am-12pm, which they didn't show up until 1pm. I sat in my car the entire time and had zero reason to be there. I have never worked with a company with this policy. Avoid this company at all cost. read more
